A good fiesta doesn’t need a lot of stuff. It needs color overhead, color on the table and one or two big shapes, and it should be easy to take down at midnight. We’ve built this guide around those jobs, using makers we can identify.
We also skipped a lot. Party aisles are full of mustaches, ponchos and novelty hats, and we think a Mexican party looks better without them. Mexican culture is the point of the party, so it shouldn’t be the joke.

Quick verdict: which fiesta decor to buy
Start with the Creative Converting serape table cover for the table. Add the Fiesta Wraps papel picado banners overhead, then pick one big shape, like the Fun Express donkey piñata. If you host often, swap the plastic cover for the DOMESTAR cloth runners.

Our picks for the best fiesta decorations
Party goods rarely get careful reviews, so these rest on their listings and their makers’ details. We ranked them by how much of the room each one handles, and we say where a claim is only the seller’s.

1. Creative Converting Serape Plastic Table Cover – Sets the Colors in One Move

If you buy one thing for a party, make it something big, and the table is the biggest thing guests look at. Creative Converting, a long-running party goods maker, prints this plastic cover in a serape stripe. It is 54 by 102 inches, which is a long rectangle, so check it against your table before you buy.
The listing says the same print runs across paper plates, napkins and photo props, and it suggests pairing it with solid lime and magenta. That is a useful way to shop, since matching solids make a table look planned even with little else on it. It is plastic and made for a party, so expect to wipe it and maybe toss it, in our view.
A note on wording: the listing calls this south of the border fun, and we wouldn’t. The serape is a real woven tradition, and a print is a nod to it and no more. If you want cloth, see the runner below. It rests on the listing, and it was sold by Lewis Party Supplies when we checked.
Why we like it
- Covers a long table at once
- Print matches other serape party goods, per the listing
- Wipes clean, in our view
- An established party goods maker

Why we recommend it
It suits a host who wants the table to do most of the decorating with little effort.
Skip it if you want a cloth you can wash and use for years. Plastic won’t do that.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Covers a lot of space
- Coordinates with matching goods
- Easy to put down
Cons
- Plastic, not cloth
- Sold by a third party
- Won’t suit a round table
2. Fiesta Wraps Papel Picado Banners, 5-Pack – Plastic Flags for Outdoors

Nothing says fiesta like cut flags overhead. This pack holds five plastic papel picado banners, each about 18.4 feet with 10 flag designs, for a total of about 92 feet. Each flag is listed at 16 by 12.5 inches, so these are big enough to read from across a yard.
The listing says they are handcrafted in Mexico by artisans, and that the plastic is waterproof and treated to reduce fading in sun. We can’t confirm either claim from a source other than the seller, so read them as the seller’s words. Fiesta Wraps is a small brand, and we count it as one of this page’s two Amazon-first picks.
Paper is the traditional material, and it is prettier up close, but it won’t survive rain. Our best papel picado guide covers the paper and plastic choices in more depth. This listing was sold by AGM Imports when we checked, and it rests on the seller’s details.
Why we like it
- Long total length
- Large flags
- Plastic stands up to weather, per the listing
- Reusable from one party to the next

Why we recommend it
It suits anyone decorating a patio or backyard who needs real length and won’t take it down the second it clouds over.
Skip it if you want traditional tissue paper for an indoor table. See the papel picado guide instead.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Lots of length
- Big flags
- Works in the rain, per the listing
Cons
- Plastic rather than paper
- Handcrafted claim is the seller’s own
- Small brand
3. Creative Converting Fiesta Grande Paper Lantern – A Bright Hanging Accent

Ceilings are easy to forget, and a paper lantern fills space cheaply. This one is a wire-framed round lantern, 12 inches across, printed in golden yellow, lime green, red and black with chili peppers. It is sold singly, so plan on several if you are covering a room.
The listing doesn’t state whether it has a light inside, so assume it is a decoration only. If you want to light it, don’t put a candle or a hot bulb near paper, in our view. The chili pepper print is playful more than traditional, and we think it works best as an accent with plainer colors around it.
It rests on the listing. It was sold by Parties Plus Online when we checked, so check the seller’s return terms.
Why we like it
- Sturdy wire frame, per the listing
- Bold colors
- Easy to hang in groups, in our view

Why we recommend it
It suits a host with a high ceiling or a porch roof who wants color above eye level.
Skip it if the party is outside in wind or rain. Paper won’t hold up.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Fills space above the table
- Wire frame
- Matches the Fiesta Grande print
Cons
- Sold singly
- Paper; indoor use only, in our view
- Third-party seller

4. Fun Express Bright Fiesta Centerpiece, 3-Piece – Ready-Made Table Pieces

Fun Express is a big party supplier, and this trio is about as simple as table decorating gets. You get three centerpieces in bright colors, to stand on a table or down a buffet. The listing doesn’t give a size or material for the pieces, so look closely at the photos to decide whether they will suit a large table.
That lack of detail is the weak point. The listing says more about how festive they are than what they are made of. We’d treat them as a low-stakes party decoration and not a keepsake. Three pieces covers one long table or three small ones.
It was sold by Fun-Express itself when we checked, and it rests on the listing. The Recall API lists one 2006 recall for Fun Express, for children’s toys and a lead concern, and it doesn’t name this product.
Why we like it
- Three pieces in one order
- Bright colors
- Sold by Fun Express when we checked

Why we recommend it
It suits a host who wants something on the table that needs no arranging.
Skip it if you want to know the exact size first. The listing doesn’t say.
Pros and cons
Pros
- No assembly described
- Sold directly
- Simple
Cons
- Few details
- Size not stated
- Not a lasting piece
5. Fun Express Donkey Piñata – A Centerpiece You Can Break

A piñata doubles as decoration until it is time to break it. This one is a classic colorful burro in papier-mache, 13.5 by 7 by 19 inches, with a hanger. The listing says it works for children and adults. It doesn’t state filling capacity or age guidance, so decide for yourself who swings the stick.
It stands well on a gift table before the big moment, and it hangs from the included hanger. Filling and rope aren’t included, per the details we read. Our best piñata guide compares shapes and materials if you want to look further.
It rests on the listing. It was sold by Fun-Express when we checked.
Why we like it
- Classic burro shape
- Includes a hanger
- Decoration first, game second
- Size stated clearly

Why we recommend it
It suits a birthday party that wants one big thing for everyone to gather around.
Skip it if you want a decoration you can keep. This one is made to break.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Works twice over
- Familiar shape
- Hanger included
Cons
- Filling not included
- No age guidance stated
- Gone after one party
6. Beistle Neon Pennant Banners, 2-Count – Weatherproof Color for Fences

Beistle has been making party goods since 1900, by its own account, and this is a plain and practical thing from it. You get two banners, each 11 inches tall by 12 feet long, with 12 pennants in neon green, orange, pink and yellow. They are all-weather plastic, for indoors or outdoors.
These aren’t Mexican in any particular way, and the listing names fiestas among many uses, along with 80s parties and pool parties. That is partly why we like them. They give you bright color at a low level on a fence or a wall, and they let papel picado be the part that actually says something.
Beistle’s age guidance reads as a decoration for adults, recommended for ages 14 and older. It was sold by Amazon when we checked, and it rests on the listing.
Why we like it
- Sizes stated clearly
- All-weather plastic, per the listing
- Long-running maker
- Bright colors
Key specifications
| Model | Not stated |

| Type | Pennant banner |
| Count | 2 |
| Size | 11 inches x 12 feet each |
| Material | Plastic |
| Where it goes | Indoors or outdoors |
| Reuse | Reusable |
| Sold by when checked | Amazon |
Why we recommend it
It suits anyone with a long fence or a blank wall to brighten up.
Skip it if you want decorations that look specifically Mexican. These are general party flags.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Weatherproof
- Sold by Amazon when we checked
- Good length
Cons
- Not a cultural item
- Neon may be loud for some
- Ages 14 and up, per Beistle

7. Beistle Inflatable Cactus, 2-Pack – Big Shape for an Entrance

Sometimes you want a big shape cheaply, and inflatable is how you get it. Beistle’s two cacti are 35 inches tall, green with printed spines and a brown planter at the base. Put one on each side of a door or a buffet. They deflate for storage, and that means you can use them again.
We chose a cactus over Beistle’s inflatable sombrero and taco items on purpose. A plant is simply a plant. Costume-type items are a matter of taste, and we would rather you not build a party around a joke about someone’s culture.
The listing doesn’t say how to inflate them, so a small hand pump may help, in our view. Beistle’s age guidance is 14 and older. It was sold by Amazon when we checked, and it rests on the listing.
Why we like it
- Two at a useful height
- Stores flat for next time
- Sold by Amazon when we checked
Key specifications

| Type | Inflatable prop |
| Count | 2 |
| Size | 35 inches tall |
| Material | Inflatable plastic |
| Where it goes | Indoors, or calm outdoors in our view |
| Reuse | Reusable |
| Sold by when checked | Amazon |
Why we recommend it
It suits a host who needs something large near the door, and who has no wish to haul real plants.
Skip it if you dislike inflatables. A paper or cloth setup will look calmer.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Big for its packed size
- Reusable
- Works for other themes too
Cons
- Inflating takes some effort
- Wind can move it, in our view
- Ages 14 and up, per Beistle
8. DOMESTAR Serape Table Runners, 4-Pack – Fabric for Several Tables

A striped fabric runner down a plain table does a lot of work, and it can be used again. These DOMESTAR runners are 14 by 84 inches, in a stripe the listing describes as inspired by classic serape shawls, with white tassel fringe on both ends. The listing gives the fabric as a cotton-poly blend.
DOMESTAR is an Amazon-first brand, and it is the second of this page’s two. Its listing is frank about the blend and doesn’t claim hand-weaving, which we appreciate. Four runners suit four tables or one long one. The listing calls them lightweight and wrinkle-resistant, but it doesn’t give washing directions, so we say not stated.
If you want more options, our best table runners guide looks at other styles. This was sold by Rainbow Town when we checked, and it rests on the seller’s details.
Why we like it
- Reusable cloth
- Four in a pack
- States the fabric blend
- Standard length for many tables, in our view
Key specifications
| Model | Not stated |
|---|---|
| Type | Fringed table runner |
| Count | 4 |
| Size | 14 x 84 inches |
| Material | Cotton-poly blend |
| Where it goes | Tables |
| Reuse | Reusable; care not stated |
| Sold by when checked | Rainbow Town |
Why we recommend it
It suits a host with several tables, or someone who throws parties more than once a year.
Skip it if you want a real hand-woven textile. Look to a dedicated seller for that.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Lasts past one party
- Fringe gives a finished look
- Lots of use for one order
Cons
- Amazon-first brand
- Care not stated
- A blend, not a traditional weave
A simple plan for decorating a fiesta
Overhead first. Banners change a room more than anything else. Measure the run with a string before you order, and allow for the droop. You generally want flags high enough that tall guests don’t brush them, in our view.
Then the table. Lay a cover or runner and keep a strip clear down the middle for food. If you are serving tacos, our taco bar supplies guide covers what actually goes on the table.
Then one big shape. A piñata, a pair of cacti or a cluster of lanterns gives the eye something to land on. One or two is plenty, and more starts to look like a store.
Then stop. Leave room for people and for food. Real flowers in plain jars on the table look good next to all that plastic, in our view.

How to choose fiesta decor with respect
Look for real things. Papel picado, serape stripes, piñatas and paper flowers come from living traditions, and they are often the most attractive things in the aisle as well.
Skip the costume box. Fake mustaches and joke ponchos turn a culture into a costume. We left out those items even though big makers sell them. Our picks don’t ask guests to dress as anyone.
Read the listing words with care. Authentic and handcrafted appear on many listings, and we can rarely confirm them. Take them as sales language unless a maker shows you more.
Match the material to the weather. Plastic flags go outdoors, and paper stays inside. Keep paper away from candles and hot bulbs, in our view.
Know what a fiesta isn’t. Dia de los Muertos has its own meaning and its own decorations, so don’t mix it into a birthday. Our Day of the Dead decorations guide explains those separately.
How we picked these eight
We have not used these decorations. We looked for plain in-stock listings with a new lead offer from makers we could identify, including Creative Converting, Fun Express and Beistle, and allowed two Amazon-first brands. Many Beistle and Amscan fiesta items were short on stock when we checked, and we left them out for that reason only. We ran no search for reviews, so we cite none, and each pick rests on its listing. We also searched the saferproducts.gov Recall API by brand. Fun Express returned one 2006 recall for children’s toys, which doesn’t name these products. Creative Converting, Beistle, DOMESTAR and Fiesta Wraps returned none.
Fiesta decor questions, answered
What decorations do you need for a fiesta?
Banners overhead, a bright table covering and one large item are enough for most homes. Add paper flowers if you like making things.
What colors go with a Mexican party?
Bright mixes are the norm: pink, orange, yellow, green and blue. Creative Converting suggests lime and magenta solids with its serape print.
Are plastic papel picado banners okay?
For outdoor use, they are the practical choice. Paper is the older material, and it is lovely, but it won’t take rain. Our papel picado guide says more about both.
Is it okay to wear a sombrero to a fiesta?
That is up to you and your hosts. We left novelty sombreros off this page because we would rather decorate with things that don’t turn into a costume.
Can I reuse these decorations?
The banners, runners and inflatables are made to be reused, per their listings. The table cover and piñata are more likely one-party items, in our view.
