Square or Double Burner? The Best Pancake Griddle Pan for Your Stove

Seven stovetop griddle pans for pancakes from Nordic Ware, GreenPan, All-Clad, OXO, Lodge and more: size, coating, induction and care compared.

Pancakes ask very little of a pan, but what they ask, they ask firmly: a flat, even surface with no hot spot in the middle, low sides so a spatula slides right under, and a finish the batter will not grab. A frying pan does the job two pancakes at a time. A griddle pan, square or long enough to span two burners, lets you cook a whole round for the table at once, and the same pan handles hotcakes, French toast, quesadillas and warming tortillas.

This guide is about stovetop griddle pans bought with pancakes in mind. It covers seven, from Nordic Ware, GreenPan, All-Clad, OXO, Cuisinart, Anolon and Lodge: four double-burner griddles and three square pans for one burner, in ceramic nonstick, PTFE nonstick and seasoned cast iron. For each we list size, material, coating, induction, oven limit, cleaning and warranty from the maker or the Amazon listing, and we describe each coating only as its maker does.

Quick verdict: which pancake griddle pan to buy

For most kitchens with a gas or electric coil stove, the best pancake griddle pan is the Nordic Ware Two Burner Griddle: a light aluminum pan with a 10 by 16.5-inch nonstick cooking surface, a 1-inch edge, a five-year warranty, and an uncoated underside that also goes on a grill or camp stove. It does not work on induction; for that, choose the GreenPan Valencia Pro 18 by 11-inch griddle, which GreenPan says works on all stovetops and is oven safe to 600°F. For one burner, the OXO Enhanced 11-inch griddle pan is the square pick, and the Lodge BOLD 12-inch square griddle is the cast iron one.

The table compares the five pancake griddle pans we would point most cooks toward. All seven are reviewed in full after it.

Our picks for the best pancake griddle pan, reviewed

Every griddle pan below lists the same eight specifications. Where a maker does not give a figure, we say so rather than guess. None of these pans appear in our cast iron, stainless or electric griddle guides; this list is chosen for pancakes.

1. Nordic Ware Two Burner Griddle – Light, Even and Easy to Flip On

Best overallNordic Ware Two Burner Griddle

Nordic Ware’s two-burner griddle is the plain, practical pancake pan. It is aluminum, which heats quickly and spreads heat across the surface, and it is light enough to lift with one hand when it is full. The listing gives the overall size as 10.1 by 17.5 inches, with a cooking surface of 10 by 16.5 inches, enough for six or so palm-sized pancakes at once, and a 1-inch edge that keeps butter and batter on the pan without getting in the way of a spatula.

The cooking side is coated with what the listing calls ceramic nonstick, and Nordic Ware’s own product page says it is made without PFAS. The back is left uncoated, which is why Nordic Ware says it can go on camp stoves, grills, RVs and even campfires as well as gas and electric ranges. It does not work on induction. Nordic Ware asks you not to use metal scouring pads, abrasive cleaners or sharp utensils on the nonstick; the listing does not say whether it can go in the dishwasher, so hand wash it.

The listing says it is made in America of domestic and imported materials, and gives a five-year warranty. Nordic Ware does not give an oven limit for this pan.

Why we like it

  • 10 x 16.5-inch cooking surface, per the listing
  • Ceramic nonstick, made without PFAS, per Nordic Ware
  • Uncoated back for grills and camp stoves

2. GreenPan Valencia Pro 18 x 11-inch Double Burner Griddle – Ceramic Nonstick That Works on Induction

Best for inductionGreenPan Valencia Pro 18" x 11" Ceramic Nonstick Double Burner Griddle Pan

Many double-burner griddles will not work on an induction cooktop, which leaves induction owners with fewer choices. GreenPan’s Valencia Pro griddle is one of the exceptions: GreenPan says it works on all stovetops, including induction, thanks to a magnetic base. The body is hard-anodized aluminum, the cooking surface measures 18 by 11 inches, and the handles are riveted stainless steel.

The coating is GreenPan’s ceramic nonstick, which the listing calls Thermolon 9G, reinforced with diamonds and made without PFAS. GreenPan’s listing also describes it as the first ceramic nonstick to be NSF certified. Unusually for a nonstick pan, GreenPan says the coating is metal utensil safe, so a thin metal pancake turner is allowed. The pan is oven safe to 600°F and dishwasher safe, and GreenPan gives a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects.

On an induction cooktop, a long griddle can heat unevenly if the pan reaches beyond the rings underneath it, so place it squarely over two elements, preheat at a moderate setting, and test with a small pancake first.

Why we like it

  • Works on induction, per GreenPan
  • Ceramic nonstick made without PFAS
  • Metal utensil safe, per GreenPan
  • Oven safe to 600°F; dishwasher safe

Key specifications

Size 18 x 11 in
Material Hard-anodized aluminum, magnetic base

Induction Yes
Oven safe 600°F
Cleaning Dishwasher safe
Warranty Limited lifetime

Why we recommend it

It suits a cook with an induction range who wants a full double-burner griddle with an easy-release ceramic surface.

Skip it if you want the biggest surface; the All-Clad is larger.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Induction compatible
  • Metal utensils allowed
  • High oven limit

Cons

  • Needs two matched burners for even heat
  • GreenPan’s own store showed it as out of stock
  • Even heat depends on your burners

3. All-Clad HA1 Expert 13 x 20-inch Double Burner Griddle – The Most Room for a Crowd

Most roomAll-Clad HA1® Expert Nonstick

When the whole family wants pancakes at once, surface area is what you are buying, and All-Clad’s HA1 Expert griddle has the most of any pan here at 13 by 20 inches. All-Clad pitches it for busy mornings and entertaining, and it is big enough for a full round of pancakes plus bacon at the end.

This is the one PTFE-coated pan on the list: All-Clad describes the cooking surface as a PTFE nonstick, on a hard-anodized aluminum body reinforced with a stainless steel base for warp resistance and even heat. That steel base also makes it compatible with any stovetop, including induction. It is oven safe to 500°F, and the handles are double-riveted stainless steel.

All-Clad says it is dishwasher safe but recommends washing with soap and a sponge to preserve the nonstick, and using silicone, nylon or wooden utensils. The warranty is limited lifetime. All-Clad says the pan is designed in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, and made in China.

Why we like it

  • 13 x 20 inches, the largest here
  • Stainless base for induction and warp resistance
  • Oven safe to 500°F
  • Limited lifetime warranty

Key specifications

Model E6551474
Size 13 x 20 in
Material Hard-anodized aluminum, stainless base

Oven safe 500°F
Cleaning Dishwasher safe; hand wash advised

Why we recommend it

It suits a large family or a cook who feeds a crowd on weekend mornings and has two strong burners side by side.

Skip it if your burners are small or far apart; a 20-inch pan needs heat under both ends.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Most cooking room
  • Works on induction
  • Sturdy riveted handles

Cons

  • Big to store and wash
  • No metal utensils
  • Made in China

4. OXO Enhanced 11-inch Griddle Pan – A Square Pan for One Burner

Best square griddleOXO Enhanced 11" Griddle Pan

A square griddle is the right pancake pan for a small household. It fits one burner, washes in the sink, and the square corners hold four pancakes where a round 11-inch pan holds three. OXO’s Enhanced griddle pan is a hard-anodized aluminum square with low sides and a stainless steel handle.

OXO describes the coating as a diamond-reinforced ceramic nonstick, and the listing says it is free of PFAS, PFOA, lead and cadmium. It is oven safe to 430°F according to the listing, and OXO says it can be wiped clean or put in the dishwasher. The listing does not say whether it works on induction, so if you cook on induction, check before you buy. OXO’s cookware carries a limited lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

For pancakes, the square shape pays off in another way: the straight edges make it easy to slide a wide spatula under the pancakes at the sides, where a round pan’s curve gets in the way.

Why we like it

  • Square shape fits four pancakes on one burner
  • Ceramic nonstick free of PFAS, per the listing
  • Dishwasher safe, per OXO
  • Oven safe to 430°F

Key specifications

Size 11 in square
Material Hard-anodized aluminum
Coating Diamond-reinforced ceramic nonstick
Induction Not stated
Oven safe 430°F
Cleaning Dishwasher safe
Warranty Limited lifetime (OXO cookware)

Why we recommend it

It suits one or two people who want a pancake pan for one burner that cleans up in the dishwasher.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Compact, one-burner size
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Stainless handle

5. Cuisinart Chef’s Classic 11-inch Square Griddle – A Handle That Stays Cool

Best stay-cool handleCuisinart Chef's Classic™ Nonstick Classic Hard Anodized Cuisinart 11" Square Griddle

Cuisinart’s Chef’s Classic square griddle is the other one-burner option, and its difference is the handle. Cuisinart’s Cool Grip stainless stick handle uses a V-flange where it meets the pan, which Cuisinart says moves heat away from the handle and keeps it concentrated in the pan, so the handle stays cool on the stovetop. That matters when you are standing over a pan for a long batch of pancakes.

The body is hard-anodized aluminum, and the cooking surface is Cuisinart’s PURELYCERAMIC nonstick, which Cuisinart labels PFAS-free. It is oven safe to 500°F, a higher limit than the OXO. Cuisinart recommends hand washing, and the pan carries a lifetime warranty. Cuisinart’s site gives the dimensions with the handle as 20.2 by 11.3 inches.

Cuisinart has also sold an older 11-inch square griddle under the model 630-20 with a different nonstick, so check that the listing you buy says 630C-20 and PURELYCERAMIC if the ceramic coating is why you are choosing it. Cuisinart does not say whether this pan works on induction.

Why we like it

  • Cool Grip handle, per Cuisinart
  • PURELYCERAMIC nonstick, labeled PFAS-free
  • Oven safe to 500°F
  • Lifetime warranty

Key specifications

Why we recommend it

It suits a cook who wants a square pancake pan with a handle that stays comfortable through a long batch, and does not mind washing by hand.

Skip it if you want dishwasher cleanup; Cuisinart recommends hand washing.

  • Cool handle on the stove
  • 500°F oven limit

6. Anolon Advanced Home 10 x 18-inch Double Burner Griddle – Comes With a Roasting Rack

Best with a rackAnolon Advanced Home Hard Anodized Nonstick Double Burner Griddle with Roasting Rack

Anolon’s Advanced Home double-burner griddle is a 10 by 18-inch hard-anodized pan that comes with a nonstick rack, which turns it into a roasting pan or a place to hold finished food in a low oven. For pancakes, that rack is the useful part: set it on the griddle in the oven and the first batch stays warm and does not steam on a plate while you cook the rest.

Anolon says the hard-anodized body heats fast and evenly, and that it is twice as hard as stainless steel. The cooking surface is what Anolon calls a premium nonstick; Anolon does not name the coating type on the listing. The exterior has a nonstick finish too, and the handles are Anolon’s SureGrip design. The griddle and rack are oven safe to 400°F.

Anolon’s own product page says it is not induction compatible and not dishwasher safe, so plan on hand washing. The warranty is lifetime, though Anolon’s terms exclude damage from overheating and dishwasher use.

Why we like it

  • Nonstick rack included
  • 10 x 18 inches spans two burners
  • Oven safe to 400°F, per Anolon
  • Lifetime warranty

Key specifications

Model 84680
Size 10 x 18 in
Material Hard-anodized aluminum
Coating Nonstick, type not stated
Induction No
Oven safe 400°F
Cleaning Hand wash; not dishwasher safe
Warranty Lifetime

Why we recommend it

It suits a cook who wants one double-burner pan for pancake mornings and for roasting, with a rack to keep the first batch warm.

Skip it if you cook on induction or want to use the dishwasher; Anolon says no to both.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Rack adds real use
  • Covers two burners
  • Lifetime warranty

Cons

  • Not induction compatible
  • Hand wash only
  • Coating type not named

7. Lodge BOLD 12-inch Square Cast Iron Griddle – No Coating, Steady Heat

Best cast ironLodge BOLD Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Square Griddle

If you would rather not have a coated pan at all, seasoned cast iron makes very good pancakes once it is well oiled and fully preheated. Lodge’s BOLD square griddle is a 12-inch cast iron pan with low sidewalls and two loop handles instead of a long stick handle, so it fits in the oven and lifts with both hands. It is a different pan from the Lodge square griddle in our cast iron griddle guide: bigger, with loop handles.

Lodge says it is seasoned with only iron and vegetable oil, and that the seasoning gives a quick-release surface that gets better with use. Cast iron holds heat well, which helps keep the second and third rounds of pancakes cooking like the first, but it also takes longer to heat through, so give it several minutes on medium before the first ladle of batter. It works on glass-top stoves, induction, grills and live fire, and it goes in the oven.

Care is the usual cast iron routine: Lodge says to hand wash, dry and rub with oil. It is made in South Pittsburg, Tennessee. Lodge does not list a warranty or an oven limit for this pan on the listing.

Why we like it

  • No coating to wear out
  • Works on induction and over fire
  • Loop handles fit in the oven
  • Made in the USA, per Lodge

Key specifications

Model P12SGL3
Size 12 in square
Material Cast iron
Coating None; seasoned with vegetable oil
Induction Yes
Oven safe Yes; limit not stated
Cleaning Hand wash, dry, oil
Warranty Not stated

Why we recommend it

It suits a cook who already looks after cast iron and wants an uncoated pancake pan that also sears and goes over a grill.

Skip it if you want to flip pancakes one-handed; cast iron is heavy and the loop handles call for two hands and potholders.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • No coating
  • Holds heat batch after batch
  • Any heat source

Cons

  • Heavy
  • Slow to preheat
  • Needs seasoning care

Square, round or double burner: what a pancake pan needs

Pancakes are a test of evenness. A pan with a hot center browns the pancakes in the middle dark while the ones at the edge are still pale, and every round comes out different. That is why the shape of the griddle should match your burners. A square 11 or 12-inch pan sits over one burner and heats right to its corners on most stoves. A double-burner griddle is only as even as the two burners under it: on a stove with two matching burners close together, it gives you a long, steady surface; on a stove with one big and one small burner, you will have a hot end and a cool end, which some cooks use on purpose, cooking on one side and holding on the other.

Round griddle pans and crepe pans work for pancakes too, and if you also make crepes, a flat round pan like those in our crepe pan guide does both. What a griddle adds is room: more pancakes per round, and space for bacon or eggs alongside.

How to choose a pancake griddle pan

1. Your stovetop

Start here, because it rules out pans. Induction needs a magnetic base: the GreenPan, All-Clad and Lodge work on induction; the Nordic Ware and Anolon do not; OXO and Cuisinart do not say. Gas and electric coil stoves take any of them.

2. One burner or two

A square pan for one burner makes four pancakes at a time and is easy to store and wash. A double-burner griddle makes six or more but needs two even burners side by side and a sink big enough to wash it. The All-Clad at 13 by 20 inches is the largest here; the Nordic Ware and Anolon are 10 by about 17 to 18 inches.

3. Coating: ceramic, PTFE or none

Four of these pans use ceramic nonstick (Nordic Ware, GreenPan, OXO, Cuisinart), one uses PTFE nonstick (All-Clad), Anolon does not name its nonstick type, and the Lodge is seasoned cast iron with no coating. We describe each coating only as its maker does. Whatever the coating, follow the maker’s rules for utensils and heat: GreenPan allows metal utensils, All-Clad asks for silicone, nylon or wood, and Nordic Ware warns against sharp tools.

4. Material and weight

Aluminum, plain or hard anodized, heats fast and is light enough to lift with one hand. Cast iron is slow to heat and heavy, but once hot it holds its temperature through batch after batch. For pancakes, either works; choose by how you like to handle a pan.

5. Cleanup

The GreenPan, All-Clad and OXO are dishwasher safe, though All-Clad suggests hand washing to preserve the nonstick. Cuisinart recommends hand washing, Anolon says not dishwasher safe, and cast iron is always hand wash, dry and oil.

A stack of plain pancakes on a white plate.

6. Warranty

GreenPan, All-Clad, OXO, Cuisinart and Anolon all offer lifetime or limited lifetime coverage; GreenPan’s and Anolon’s terms cover manufacturing defects, not normal wear. Nordic Ware gives five years. Lodge does not list one on this pan’s listing.

How we picked these seven griddle pans

We started from what a pancake needs: an even, flat surface, low sides for a spatula, reliable release and a size that fits the stove. Because our cast iron griddle, stainless steel griddle pan and electric griddle guides already cover those materials, we chose different pans here and left out their picks. We searched Amazon for stovetop square, round and double-burner griddles sold in the United States, checked stock for each with Amazon’s product data, and kept only in-stock pans from established cookware makers. We left out several near-identical 11-inch ceramic squares, and All-Clad’s older HA1 square griddle, which was low on stock. Specifications come from the Amazon listings and, where we could reach them, the makers’ own pages from GreenPan, Cuisinart, Anolon, OXO and Nordic Ware; coatings are named only as the makers name them, and we wrote “Not stated” where none gave a figure. We have not cooked with these pans for this guide.

Pancake griddle questions, answered

What is the best griddle pan for pancakes?

For gas or electric coil stoves, the Nordic Ware Two Burner Griddle: a 10 by 16.5-inch ceramic nonstick surface on light aluminum, with a five-year warranty. On induction, the GreenPan Valencia Pro 18 by 11-inch griddle. For one burner, the OXO Enhanced 11-inch square.

Is a griddle better than a frying pan for pancakes?

For more than a couple of people, yes. A griddle’s low sides make flipping easier, and a square or double-burner griddle fits four to six pancakes at once where a 10-inch skillet fits two or three.

Nonstick or cast iron for pancakes?

Both work. Nonstick releases easily from the first pancake with little fat, but needs gentle utensils and has a coating that wears over time. Seasoned cast iron needs a little oil and a full preheat, then holds steady heat through many batches with no coating to wear.

Do double-burner griddles heat evenly?

Only as evenly as the burners under them. On two matching burners close together they can; on a stove with mismatched burners you will see a hotter end. Preheat on medium and test with a small pancake at each end.

Can I use a griddle pan on an induction cooktop?

Only if the maker says so. Of the pans here, the GreenPan, All-Clad and Lodge are induction compatible; the Nordic Ware and Anolon are not; OXO and Cuisinart do not say.

Our final pick for pancake mornings

Buy the Nordic Ware Two Burner Griddle for light, even pancakes on gas or electric. Choose the GreenPan Valencia Pro for induction, the All-Clad HA1 Expert for the biggest batches, the OXO Enhanced or Cuisinart Chef’s Classic square for one burner, the Anolon for its warming rack, and the Lodge BOLD if you want no coating at all.
