A 12-inch skillet is the pan a Mexican kitchen reaches for when there is a lot of food to brown. It holds a full batch of fajita strips with the peppers and onions, enough chorizo and potatoes for breakfast tacos for four, or a pound of ground beef for picadillo without steaming it. Stainless steel suits that work because it takes high heat, it has no coating to wear out, and the browned bits it leaves behind turn into a pan sauce.
This guide covers the best 12 stainless steel frying pan options from makers other than those on our main stainless steel pans guide: nine pans from Tramontina, de Buyer, Vollrath, Viking, GreenPan, Anolon, Made In, Babish and Farberware, compared on construction, oven rating, lids and care.

Quick verdict: which 12-inch stainless pan to buy
For most kitchens, buy the Tramontina Signature Tri-Ply Clad 12-inch Fry Pan with Helper Handle: fully clad, NSF certified, dishwasher safe, oven safe to 500°F and backed by a lifetime warranty, with a second handle for lifting a full pan. If you want a heavier French pan, the de Buyer Affinity 12.6-inch is 5-ply with pouring lips. For a lid in the box, choose the Anolon Nouvelle Stainless 12-inch Skillet.
The table compares the five standouts. All nine pans are reviewed in full below, followed by how to choose one and answers to common questions.

Our picks for the best 12 stainless steel frying pan
The nine pans below include fully clad tri-ply and 5-ply skillets, a commercial pan from a foodservice maker, two pans that come with lids, a three-pan set and a simpler pan with cladding in the base only. None repeats the 12-inch pans on our 12-inch frying pan guide.
1. Tramontina Signature Tri-Ply Clad 12-inch Fry Pan with Helper Handle – Clad Body, Second Handle

A 12-inch skillet full of fajita meat, onions and peppers is heavy, and a second handle opposite the main one makes it far easier to carry from the stove to the table or tip into a serving dish. This is the helper-handle version of the Tramontina Signature 12-inch pan on our stainless steel pans guide. We list it here because the extra handle is the one thing that changes how a pan this size handles, not because it is a different recipe.
The build is the same idea: tri-ply clad construction, with an aluminum core between layers of 18/10 stainless steel, according to the listing. The listing calls it a generous 12.5-inch pan, works on every stovetop including induction, and rates it oven safe to 500°F.
For a busy kitchen the care details matter as much as the metal. Tramontina says the pan is NSF certified, the food-equipment standard restaurants look for, that it is dishwasher safe, and that it is made in Brazil and backed by a lifetime warranty.
Why we like it
- Tri-ply clad with an aluminum core, per the listing
- A helper handle for lifting a full pan
- NSF certified and dishwasher safe
- Lifetime warranty

Why we recommend it
It suits a home cook who wants one large, fully clad skillet for searing, sautéing and family-size batches, and who often lifts it while it is full.
Skip it if you want a lid in the box; none is listed.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Clad construction from a long-standing cookware maker
- Second handle for heavy loads
- Dishwasher safe, per Tramontina
Cons
- No lid included
- Weight not stated
- 500°F oven rating is lower than Viking’s or GreenPan’s
2. de Buyer Affinity 12.6-inch Fry Pan – French 5-Ply With Pouring Lips

de Buyer is a French cookware maker that also makes carbon steel and copper pans. The Affinity line is its fully clad stainless range, and de Buyer’s US site describes it as 5-ply, made in France, induction ready and oven safe. The 12.6-inch (32 cm) size is the largest round Affinity fry pan.
Two details set it apart from the other pans here. The rim has pouring lips, which help when you tip off fat after browning chorizo or pour a pan sauce over meat. The handle is cast stainless steel, curved to sit in the hand, according to the listing.
The listing says the pan works on all heat sources including induction, is dishwasher safe and is made in France. It lists a 90-day warranty, which is far shorter than the lifetime cover from Tramontina, Anolon or Farberware, so keep your receipt. de Buyer’s US page does not give an oven temperature limit in the text we could read.
Why we like it
- 5-ply construction, per de Buyer
- Pouring lips on the rim
- Made in France
- Works on induction
Key specifications

Why we recommend it
It suits a cook who wants a heavier, fully clad pan from a maker that supplies professional kitchens, and who likes to pour sauces straight from the pan.
Skip it if a long warranty matters to you; the listing states only 90 days.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Five layers, per de Buyer
- Pouring lips cut down on drips
- Cast stainless handle
Cons
- Short warranty on the listing
- No stated oven temperature
- No lid included
3. Vollrath Tribute 3-Ply 12-inch Fry Pan – Restaurant-Supply Pan, Made in the USA

Vollrath makes equipment for commercial kitchens, and Tribute is its clad stainless line. This is the kind of pan you find in a restaurant-supply catalog rather than a department store: plain, heavy and built around a riveted handle.
According to the listing, the pan is three-ply with a natural, uncoated finish meant for browning and searing, and the chrome-plated TriVent handle is held on with Vollrath’s EverTite riveting system. Vollrath’s own page for the 12-inch Tribute fry pan says it is made in the USA, induction ready, 3-ply with an 18-8 stainless steel cooking surface, and 12.688 inches across, with 11.875 inches usable and a 9-inch bottom.
That last figure is worth knowing. A 12-inch pan is measured across the rim, and the flat floor is always smaller. Vollrath’s warranty is a limited lifetime warranty against loose rivets. Neither Vollrath nor the listing gives an oven limit or says whether it can go in a dishwasher, so plan to wash it by hand.
Why we like it
- Made in the USA, per Vollrath
- Cooking-surface and bottom diameters published
- Riveted handle with a lifetime rivet warranty
- Induction ready
Key specifications
| Model | Tribute 12-inch (listing shows 691112 and 69212) |

| Warranty | Limited lifetime (rivets) |
Why we recommend it
It suits a cook who wants a commercial-grade pan with plain, honest specs and who does not mind hand washing.
Skip it if you want a stated oven rating or a dishwasher-safe pan; neither is given.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Commercial build from a foodservice maker
- Made in the USA
- Useful published dimensions
Cons
- Oven and dishwasher use not stated
- Listing shows two model numbers
- No lid
4. Viking Artisan 3-Ply 12-inch Fry Pan – Rated to 600°F in the Oven

Viking is better known for ranges, but it also sells several lines of clad cookware. Artisan is its high-polish 3-ply range: Viking’s site says the outer layer is magnetic stainless steel for induction, the core is aluminum, and the cooking surface is 304 stainless steel.
The useful number here is the oven rating. The listing says the pan is oven, grill and broiler safe to 600°F, so you can sear a thick steak or chicken thighs on the burner and finish them under a hot broiler. The listing also describes the 12-inch surface as room for four to six portions or a full pound of ground meat, which is about right for a family batch of picadillo.
The handle is solid cast stainless steel, riveted. The pan is dishwasher safe, although Viking recommends hand washing to keep the mirror finish bright.
Why we like it
- Oven and broiler safe to 600°F, per the listing
- Three-ply with an aluminum core, per Viking
- Cast stainless handle
- Dishwasher safe
Key specifications
| Model | 40691-1112C |

| Made in | Not stated |
| Oven-safe to | 600°F |
| Induction | Yes |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes (hand washing recommended) |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits a cook who often moves a skillet from the burner to the oven or broiler and wants the highest rating among these pans.
Skip it if you want to know the weight, country of manufacture or warranty before you buy; the listing does not say.
Pros and cons
Pros
- High 600°F oven and broiler rating
- Clad body with an aluminum core
- Dishwasher safe
Cons
- Mirror finish shows marks
- Warranty and origin not stated
- No lid
5. GreenPan Valencia Pro Tri-Ply Stainless 12-inch Fry Pan – Sealed Rim, Easy Cleanup

GreenPan is best known for ceramic nonstick, and its Valencia Pro name is also used for a ceramic-coated line, so read the title carefully. This one is the uncoated version: tri-ply stainless steel, with two layers of stainless steel around an aluminum core, according to the listing.
The listing makes three points that matter for everyday cleanup. The pan is dishwasher safe. The rim is encapsulated, which means the layers are sealed at the edge rather than exposed, and GreenPan says this guards against wear. And the mirror-polished stainless handle has a V-shaped cutout meant to keep it cooler.
It is oven and broiler safe up to 600°F and works on all stovetops, including induction. Bare stainless needs a preheated pan and some fat to keep eggs and fish from sticking, as any stainless pan does.
Why we like it
- Tri-ply with an aluminum core, per the listing
- Encapsulated rim
- Oven and broiler safe to 600°F
- Dishwasher safe
Key specifications
| Model | CC010443-001 |
|---|---|

| Made in | Not stated |
| Oven-safe to | 600°F |
| Induction | Yes |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes |

Skip it if you are looking for GreenPan’s nonstick coating; this pan is bare stainless.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Sealed rim
- High oven rating
- Dishwasher safe
Cons
- Name is shared with a nonstick line
- Warranty and origin not stated
- No lid
6. Anolon Nouvelle Stainless 12-inch Skillet with Lid – Copper in the Base, Lid Included

Some dishes in a 12-inch skillet need a lid: chicken thighs that brown and then braise in salsa verde, or calabacitas that steam for a few minutes after the onions soften. This Anolon pan comes with a domed stainless steel lid, which most of the pans here do not.
It is built differently from the clad pans above. Anolon’s page describes the base as an induction plate with a copper midlayer, and the listing calls it a 5-ply clad copper base. The copper sits in the base, not up the walls, so the sides heat more slowly than on a fully clad pan. The listing says the finish is mirror-polished with no added coatings.
Anolon rates the pan oven safe to 500°F and suitable for induction, says it is dishwasher safe because the base is fully capped and the rims are folded, and backs it with a lifetime warranty. Anolon’s own page and retailers call it a 12-inch French skillet.
Why we like it
- Domed stainless lid included
- Copper layer in the base, per Anolon
- Oven safe to 500°F and induction ready
- Lifetime warranty
Key specifications
| Model | 77711 |
|---|---|
| Size | 12-inch |
| Construction | Stainless body, copper-core base |
| Made in | Not stated |
| Oven-safe to | 500°F |
| Induction | Yes |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes |
| Warranty | Lifetime |
Why we recommend it
It suits a cook who braises, steams or simmers in a skillet and wants a matching lid without buying one separately.
Skip it if you want even heat right up the sides; the copper is only in the base.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Lid in the box
- No coatings, per the listing
- Dishwasher safe
Cons
- Not fully clad
- Copper base adds weight (figure not stated)
- Origin not stated
7. Made In 3-Piece Stainless Clad Frying Pan Set (8, 10 and 12-inch) – The 12-inch Plus Two Smaller Pans

If you are buying a 12-inch stainless pan and still cook eggs or a single quesadilla in an old pan, it can make sense to buy the sizes together. This Made In set includes 8-, 10- and 12-inch stainless clad frying pans. The single 12-inch pan is on our stainless steel pans guide; we include the set here as a different way to buy it.
According to the listing, each pan is made from five layers of metal, crafted in Italy, with a top layer of 430 stainless steel so it works on induction. The handle is designed to stay cool and is fastened with stainless steel rivets.
The set listing does not give an oven temperature, dishwasher guidance or warranty, so check those with Made In before you buy. The 8-inch pan is a useful size for eggs, toasting a few tortillas’ worth of chiles or a small batch of salsa base.
Why we like it
- Three sizes, including the 12-inch
- Five-layer clad build, per the listing
- Made in Italy
- Induction compatible
Key specifications
| Model | KIT-3-FRY-SS |

| Oven-safe to | Not stated |
| Induction | Yes |
| Dishwasher safe | Not stated |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits a cook setting up a stainless kitchen who wants a large skillet and two smaller pans that match.
Skip it if you already own good 8- and 10-inch pans; you would be paying for pans you do not need.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Covers small and large jobs
- Five-ply construction
- Works on induction
Cons
- Oven, dishwasher and warranty details missing from the listing
- No lids
- Takes more storage space
8. Babish 12-inch Tri-Ply Stainless Fry Pan with Lid – Tri-Ply Pan With a Lid

Babish sells a range of home cookware, and this 12-inch fry pan is tri-ply, with 18/8 stainless steel around a seamless aluminum core, according to the listing, and it comes with a tight-fitting stainless steel lid.
The handle is double-riveted and Y-shaped; the listing says the shape spreads heat and gives a secure grip. That is about all the listing commits to. It does not state an oven limit, induction compatibility, dishwasher use, warranty or where the pan is made.
We include it because it is one of the few tri-ply 12-inch pans from an identifiable brand that comes with a lid, which helps when you cover a pan of rice or let cheese melt over enchiladas. Before buying, check the listing’s current details or Babish’s own site for the oven rating.
Why we like it
- Tri-ply with an aluminum core, per the listing
- Stainless steel lid included
- Double-riveted handle
Key specifications
| Model | 131315.02R |
|---|---|
| Size | 12-inch |
| Construction | Tri-ply, aluminum core |

| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits a cook who wants a clad 12-inch pan with a lid and is comfortable confirming the care details before buying.
Skip it if you need a stated oven rating or induction compatibility; the listing does not give them.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Lid included
- Clad construction
- Sturdy riveted handle
Cons
- Many specs not stated
- 18/8 rather than 18/10 interior
- No warranty listed
9. Farberware TrueCook Stainless 12-inch Frying Pan – A Simple Starter Pan

Farberware’s listing points to more than 125 years of making cookware, and TrueCook is one of its simpler lines. Unlike the clad pans above, this one has a heavy-gauge encapsulated clad base: the heat-spreading layer is in the bottom only, and the walls are single-layer stainless steel.
That design is fine for searing, sautéing and frying on the flat floor, but the sides heat less evenly, which matters more for a pan sauce than for browning carne asada. The listing says the reinforced rim resists warping, the interior is non-reactive stainless steel, and the pan works on all cooktops including induction.
The oven rating is low at 350°F, so this is a stovetop pan first. Farberware says it is dishwasher safe, has a dual-riveted handle and carries a limited lifetime warranty.
Why we like it
- Works on induction
- Dishwasher safe
- Dual-riveted handle
- Limited lifetime warranty
Key specifications
| Model | 71216 |
|---|---|
| Size | 12-inch |
| Construction | Stainless, encapsulated clad base |
| Made in | Not stated |
| Oven-safe to | 350°F |
| Induction | Yes |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes |
| Warranty | Limited lifetime |
Why we recommend it
It suits a cook trying stainless for the first time who mostly cooks on the stovetop.
Skip it if you finish dishes in a hot oven; it is rated only to 350°F.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Simple, easy-care pan
- Induction ready
- Lifetime warranty
Cons
- Base-only cladding
- Low oven rating
- No lid
Clad walls or a clad base: what changes in a big pan
Stainless steel on its own spreads heat poorly, so makers bond it to aluminum or copper. In a fully clad pan, such as the Tramontina, de Buyer, Vollrath, Viking, GreenPan, Made In and Babish here, those layers run from the floor up through the walls to the rim. In a base-clad pan, such as the Anolon and Farberware, a thick disc of aluminum or copper is sealed under the floor and the walls are a single layer of steel.
Size makes the difference bigger. The floor of a 12-inch pan is wide, and on a home burner the outer edge is already the coolest part of the pan. Clad walls help heat reach that edge and the sides, which matters when you reduce a sauce or cook a crowded pan of vegetables. A base-clad pan browns well in the middle and suits cooks who mostly sear and fry.

How to choose a 12-inch stainless pan
Cooking surface, not rim size. Pans are sold by rim diameter, but you cook on the flat floor. Vollrath, for example, gives a 12.688-inch rim and a 9-inch bottom for its Tribute pan. If a maker publishes the floor size, compare that.
Construction. Fully clad (tri-ply or 5-ply) heats more evenly up the sides; base-clad is simpler and usually lighter on the wallet. More layers do not automatically mean better cooking, but 5-ply pans tend to be heavier and hold heat longer.
Handles and weight. A full 12-inch pan is heavy. A helper handle, like the one on the Tramontina, makes it easier to lift. Check the weight where it is given; several makers here do not state it.
Oven rating. If you finish chicken or steak under the broiler, look for 500°F or more. Viking and GreenPan rate their pans to 600°F; Farberware’s is 350°F.
Lid. Most fry pans are sold without one. The Anolon and Babish include a lid; for others, see our guide to stainless steel pan lids.
Care and warranty. Dishwasher-safe pans save time, though hand washing keeps a polished finish brighter. Lifetime warranties from Tramontina, Anolon and Farberware are a good sign; de Buyer’s listing states only 90 days.

How we chose these 12-inch pans
We started from how a Mexican kitchen uses a big skillet: high-heat searing for fajitas and carne asada, browning chorizo and ground meat, frying potatoes, and reducing salsa or a pan sauce. We then looked for 12-inch and slightly larger uncoated stainless pans sold on Amazon in the United States from identifiable makers, left out any pan already recommended on our other stainless and frying pan guides, and checked each pan’s stock with Amazon’s product data before writing. We left out pans that were nearly sold out when we checked, including 12-inch models from Zwilling, Henckels, Demeyere, Mauviel, Fissler, Le Creuset and Cuisinart’s French Classic, and we left out stainless pans with a nonstick coating.
Specifications come from each Amazon listing and, where we could read them, the makers’ own pages (Vollrath, de Buyer, Viking and Anolon). Where neither says something, we write “not stated”. We did not cook with these pans for this guide, and we have not cited published equipment reviews because we did not read them for this page.
Questions about 12-inch stainless pans
Is a 12-inch stainless pan too big for a home stove?
Not usually. Most home ranges have at least one large burner that suits a 12-inch pan. Expect the outer edge to run a little cooler than the center; a fully clad pan narrows that gap.
How do I stop food sticking to a stainless pan?
Preheat the pan over medium heat before adding fat, then add the food once the oil shimmers, and leave meat alone until it releases on its own. Crowding a pan cools it and causes sticking, which is one reason to buy a 12-inch size.
Is tri-ply or 5-ply better?
Both work well. Five-ply pans like the de Buyer and Made In are generally heavier and hold heat longer; tri-ply pans like the Tramontina, Viking and GreenPan heat faster and are lighter to lift.
Can stainless steel pans go in the dishwasher?
Many can. Tramontina, Viking, GreenPan, Anolon and Farberware say theirs are dishwasher safe. Vollrath and the Made In set listing do not say, so wash those by hand.
Does a stainless pan work on induction?
Only if the outside layer is magnetic. Every pan here except the Babish is described as induction compatible by its listing or maker; the Babish listing does not say.
Our pick for a big stainless skillet
Buy the Tramontina Signature with helper handle if you want one fully clad, easy-care 12-inch pan. Choose the de Buyer Affinity for a heavier French 5-ply pan, the Vollrath Tribute for a commercial pan made in the USA, the Anolon Nouvelle if you want a lid, and the Farberware TrueCook as a simple first stainless pan for the stovetop.
