One Box or Two? Choosing the Best Cookware Bakeware Set

Four combined cookware and bakeware sets and four bakeware sets to pair with your pots, with real piece counts, oven limits and care rules.

A restaurant kitchen never buys its pots and its sheet pans in one box. The stovetop pans come from one supplier, the sheet pans and muffin tins from another, and each is chosen for the job. A combined cookware and bakeware set turns that around: one purchase, one look, one storage system, and usually one coating on everything. For a first kitchen or a gift, that can make real sense, as long as you know what you are giving up.

This guide covers both routes. First, the combined sets worth considering from makers we could identify, with the cooking pieces and baking pieces counted separately. Then the bakeware sets we would add to a cookware set you already own, because buying separately often works better. Every specification comes from the maker or its Amazon listing, and where a listing leaves something out we say so.

Quick verdict: which cookware and bakeware set to buy

If you want everything in one box, the Caraway 23-piece Cookware and Bakeware Set is the most complete and best-specified combined set here: ceramic-coated pans and bakeware that Caraway rates to 550°F, an induction-ready stovetop set and storage racks included. For a lower cost, the Gotham Steel 20-piece set covers the same ground with a 500°F oven rating and a 10-year limited guarantee. If you already own decent pots, skip the combo and add the USA Pan 5-piece bakeware set instead.

The table below compares the five picks we would point most cooks to first. Eight sets are reviewed in full after it: four combined sets and four bakeware sets to pair with cookware you already have.

Our picks for the best cookware bakeware set, and the bakeware to add instead

The first four picks are combined sets that put pots, pans and bakeware in one box. The last four are bakeware sets to buy separately and pair with cookware you already own or buy on its own. For each, the “What’s included” row lists the cooking pieces and the baking pieces, so you can see how much of the box you will actually use.

1. Caraway 23-piece Cookware and Bakeware Set – Matching Ceramic, Storage Included

Best overall combined setCaraway 23-Piece Non-Stick Ceramic Cookware and Bakeware Set

Caraway’s bundle puts its cookware set and its bakeware set in one box, and it is the combined set with the clearest specifications. On the stovetop side you get a 10.5-inch frying pan, a 3-quart saucepan, a 6.5-quart Dutch oven and a 4.5-quart sauté pan, with three lids. On the baking side, the listing names baking sheets, a muffin pan, a loaf pan and a cooling rack. The rest of the 23 pieces are storage: magnetic pan racks, a canvas lid holder and two bakeware organizers.

Both halves are ceramic coated. Caraway says the coating is made without PTFE, PFOA, PFAS, lead or cadmium; that is the maker’s statement. The listing says the cookware works on all stovetops and that both the cookware and the bakeware are oven safe to 550°F, the highest oven rating among the combined sets here. Caraway’s care page adds that the bakeware should not go under the broiler.

The care rules are strict, and they matter. Caraway’s care page lists the cookware and the bakeware as hand wash only, asks for low to medium heat on the stovetop, and says to avoid oil sprays and cooking aerosols. Caraway’s warranty is one year against defects and excludes coating damage from high heat or metal utensils. The 6.5-quart Dutch oven and 4.5-quart sauté pan are generous sizes for beans, rice and braises.

Why we like it

  • Cookware and bakeware both rated to 550°F
  • Works on all stovetops, per the listing
  • Coating made without PTFE or PFAS, per Caraway
  • Racks and organizers for both halves

2. Gotham Steel 20-piece Cookware and Bakeware Set – Full Kitchen, 10-Year Guarantee

Best budget combined setGotham Steel 20 Pc Pots and Pans Set Nonstick Cookware + Bakeware Set

Gotham Steel’s 20-piece box is a more affordable way to get pots and bakeware together, and its listing spells out every piece. The cookware is an 8.5-inch fry pan, a 10.25-inch skillet with glass lid, 1.5 and 2.5-quart saucepans with lids and a 5-quart stockpot with lid, plus a stainless steamer rack, a frying basket and a steamer insert. Two square casserole pans, one shallow and one deep with a lid, sit between the two halves.

The bakeware is the set a home baker reaches for most: a 12 by 17-inch cookie sheet, a 9.5-inch square baking pan, a loaf pan, a 9.5-inch round pan and a 12-cup muffin pan. That muffin pan is also the one for egg bites; our guide to the best egg muffin pan goes deeper on those.

The listing describes aluminum pressed from a solid sheet, with Gotham Steel’s Ti-Cerama coating of titanium and ceramic, which the maker says is free of PFOA, PFOS, lead and cadmium and safe for metal utensils. Those are Gotham Steel’s own claims. The set is rated oven safe to 500°F, lids included, and dishwasher safe, for gas, electric, halogen and ceramic stovetops but not induction, with a 10-year limited guarantee.

Why we like it

  • Five real baking pans, including a 12-cup muffin pan
  • Oven safe to 500°F, lids included, per the listing
  • Dishwasher safe
  • 10-year limited guarantee

Key specifications

Pieces 20 (5 pots and pans, 2 casserole pans, 5 baking pans, lids and accessories)
What’s included Cookware: 8.5-inch fry pan, 10.25-inch skillet with lid, 1.5 and 2.5-qt saucepans with lids, 5-qt stockpot with lid, steamer rack, frying basket, steamer insert, shallow and deep 9.5-inch square pans (deep with lid). Bakeware: 12 x 17-inch cookie sheet, 9.5-inch square pan, loaf pan, 9.5-inch round pan, 12-cup muffin pan
Material/construction Aluminum, pressed and spiral-finished base
Coating Ti-Cerama titanium-ceramic nonstick
Oven-safe to 500°F, lids included
Induction No
Dishwasher safe Yes
Warranty 10-year limited guarantee

Why we recommend it

Choose it if you want the most complete combined set for a modest outlay, with dishwasher-safe pieces and a long guarantee, on a gas or electric stove.

3. CAROTE 31-piece Detachable-Handle Set with Bakeware – Stacks Into One Cupboard

Best for small kitchensCAROTE 31pcs Pots and Pans Set Non Stick

Storage is the hidden problem with combined sets: a cookware set and a bakeware set together can fill two cupboards. CAROTE’s answer is detachable handles. The pans nest inside each other with the handles off, and the listing says that saves up to 70 percent of storage space when stacked; that is CAROTE’s figure. It also means the pans can go from stovetop to oven to table without a handle sticking out.

The cookware is 8 and 10-inch frying pans, 1.5 and 3-quart saucepans, a 4-quart sauté pan and a 7-quart stockpot with lid, plus two detachable handles, silicone and storage lids, pan protectors, a storage bucket and six utensils. The bakeware is a 15-inch roasting pan, a 15-inch cookie sheet, a 12-cup muffin pan, a 9-inch loaf pan, a 9-inch round cake pan and a 14-inch cooling rack.

The listing says the set works on all stovetops, including induction, and calls it dishwasher and oven safe, but it gives no oven temperature and does not name the coating or the base metal. The listing says food slides off for quick hand washing and that the pieces are also dishwasher safe. Because so much is unstated, treat the oven rating cautiously and check with CAROTE before baking at high heat.

Why we like it

  • Detachable handles for compact stacking
  • Induction compatible, per the listing
  • Six cooking pieces plus a 7-quart stockpot
  • Roasting pan, cookie sheet and cooling rack included

Key specifications

Bakeware: 15-inch roasting pan, 15-inch cookie sheet, 12-cup muffin pan, 9-inch loaf pan, 9-inch round cake pan, 14-inch cooling rack

  • Large stockpot and roasting pan

Cons

  • No oven temperature given

  • Warranty not stated

4. Gotham Steel Hammered 15-piece Set with Bakeware – Induction-Ready Combined Set

Best combined set for inductionGOTHAM STEEL HAMMERED 15 Pc Titanium Ceramic Cookware Set

The Hammered version of Gotham Steel’s set is smaller than the 20-piece box but adds the one thing it lacks: induction. The listing rates it for gas, electric, halogen, ceramic and induction stovetops, oven safe to 500°F and dishwasher safe. The hammered copper-tone exterior is a styling choice; the body is aluminum with a spiral-finished base, according to the listing.

The cookware is an 8.5-inch frying pan, a 10.25-inch frying pan with lid, 1.5 and 2.5-quart saucepans with lids, a 5-quart stock pot with lid and a stainless steamer. The bakeware is a full-size cookie sheet, a round baking pan, a square baking pan, a loaf pan and a muffin pan. That is enough for a weeknight dinner and a batch of muffins or a pan of cornbread, but not much more.

Gotham Steel says each piece is coated three times with its ceramic nonstick, free of PFOA, PFOS, lead and cadmium, and durable enough for metal utensils; those are the maker’s claims. The handles are Y-shaped and riveted, designed to stay cool. The listing does not state a warranty for this version.

Why we like it

  • Works on induction, per the listing
  • Oven safe to 500°F
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Five baking pans included

Key specifications

5. USA Pan 5-piece Bakeware Set – Commercial-Grade Pans to Add On

Best bakeware to addUSA Pan Bakeware Aluminzed Steel 5-Piece Set Half

If you already own pots and pans, this is the set we would add first. USA Pan is a Bundy family company that has made bakeware in the United States for over 60 years, according to the listing, and the pans are commercial-grade heavy-gauge aluminized steel, which is steel coated with aluminum.

The five pieces are the shapes a home kitchen uses most: a 17.75 by 12.75-inch half sheet pan, a 12.5 by 11.75-inch cookie tray, an 8-inch square pan, a 9-inch round cake pan and a 1-pound loaf pan. The half sheet is the workhorse, for roasted vegetables, sheet-pan chicken fajitas, cookies or toasting pepitas. The corrugated surface is designed to let air circulate for even baking and easy release.

The coating is USA Pan’s clear silicone nonstick. USA Pan’s use-and-care page says not to exceed 450°F, to hand wash its silicone-coated pans in warm, soapy water, to skip cooking spray, and to use only silicone, nylon or wooden utensils. USA Pan offers a lifetime limited warranty.

Why we like it

  • Heavy-gauge aluminized steel, per the listing
  • Includes a full half sheet pan
  • Made in the USA, per USA Pan
  • Lifetime limited warranty

Key specifications

Why we recommend it

Buy it if you have cookware you like, or plan to buy it separately, and want sturdy bakeware in the most useful sizes. Pair it with a set from our best cookware set cheap guide and you have a full kitchen.

6. Lodge Cast Iron Baker’s Favorite Set – Made in the USA, Built to Last

Best cast iron bakewareLodge Cast Iron Baker's Favorite 6-Piece Set

Lodge’s Baker’s Favorite set is bakeware that behaves like cookware: heavy, seasoned cast iron that holds heat and browns edges. The set includes a pie pan, a muffin pan, a casserole pan and a loaf pan, plus bakeware grips; the Amazon listing counts it as six pieces, while Lodge’s own page describes the four pans. Lodge says the pieces are seasoned with 100 percent vegetable oil and ready to use.

Cast iron bakeware suits the dishes that want a crust: cornbread in the muffin or loaf pan, a deep-dish pie, a bubbling casserole or a tray of enchiladas. The listing says it will not dent, bend or warp, and Lodge says it is made in the USA and made without PFAS. Lodge lists the set at 22.25 pounds, so these pans are heavy to lift full.

Lodge’s care advice is to hand wash, dry and oil, so no dishwasher. Lodge says the pans are oven compatible but does not give a temperature limit on the product page, and its warranty is the Lodge Made Right Warranty, whose terms the product page links to rather than describes. Lodge does not publish piece sizes on the product page.

Why we like it

  • Made in the USA, per Lodge
  • Pre-seasoned with vegetable oil
  • Will not dent, bend or warp, per the listing
  • Made without PFAS, per Lodge

Key specifications

Pieces 6 per the listing (4 pans plus grips)
What’s included Bakeware: pie pan, muffin pan, casserole pan, loaf pan, bakeware grips. Cookware: none

Coating None (vegetable oil seasoning)
Oven-safe to Oven safe; no limit stated
Induction Not applicable (bakeware)
Dishwasher safe No; hand wash, dry and oil
Warranty Lodge Made Right Warranty (terms not stated on the product page)

Why we recommend it

Choose it if you want bakeware that lasts for generations and bake crusty, rustic dishes more than delicate cakes. It pairs naturally with a cast iron cookware set such as the Lodge 5-piece in our budget sets guide.

Skip it if weight is a problem or you want dishwasher-safe pans.

Pros and cons

  • Practically indestructible
  • Even edge-to-edge heat, per Lodge

7. Nordic Ware Naturals 3-piece Sheet Pan Set – Uncoated Aluminum Sheet Pans

Best sheet pans to addNordic Ware Naturals 3 Piece Set - USA Made Aluminum Commercial Quality Sheet Pan for Baking or Roasting

In most restaurant kitchens, the everyday workhorse of the oven is a plain aluminum sheet pan. Nordic Ware’s Naturals set gives you three: a half sheet, a jelly roll pan and a quarter sheet. The listing describes pure aluminum for heat conductivity and even browning, with encapsulated galvanized steel rims to resist warping.

Three sizes cover almost everything a home cook roasts or bakes. The half sheet takes a sheet-pan dinner or a full batch of cookies; the jelly roll pan suits a smaller tray of roasted vegetables; the quarter sheet is right for toasting nuts, holding prepped ingredients or a toaster oven. Because there is no coating, there is nothing to scratch or wear off, and parchment paper handles release.

The listing says the pans will never rust, are made in America of domestic and imported materials and carry a lifetime warranty. It gives no oven limit or dishwasher guidance; Costco’s listing for Nordic Ware’s Naturals sheet pans advises hand washing and says dishwasher detergent causes discoloration or a rough texture. Natural aluminum does darken with use, which is normal.

Why we like it

  • Pure aluminum with steel-reinforced rims
  • Three sizes, including a half sheet
  • Uncoated: nothing to wear off
  • Lifetime warranty, per the listing

Key specifications

Pieces 3 sheet pans
What’s included Bakeware: half sheet, jelly roll pan, quarter sheet. Cookware: none

Skip it if you want cake, loaf or muffin pans too; this set is sheet pans only.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • No coating to wear

8. Rachael Ray Yum-o! 10-piece Bakeware Set – Budget Bakeware With Grips

Budget bakeware to addRachael Ray Yum-o! Nonstick Bakeware Oven Lovin' Baking Pans Set

If the budget is tight and you want a wide range of shapes, Rachael Ray’s Yum-o! bakeware set is the low-cost add-on here. The listing describes heavy-gauge steel built to resist warping, a nonstick finish for easy release, and bold, extra-wide silicone grips on the handles. Part of the proceeds goes to Yum-o!, Rachael Ray’s nonprofit for kids and families, according to the listing.

Rachael Ray’s own product page itemizes the ten pieces: a 9 by 13-inch covered roasting pan, a 10 by 15-inch sheet pan with an insert, a 9 by 5-inch meatloaf pan with an insert, two 9-inch round cake pans, a 9-inch square cake pan and a 9 by 13-inch crispy sheet pan. The inserts count as pieces, and there is no muffin pan, so plan to add one if you bake cupcakes.

Rachael Ray’s page rates the set oven safe to 450°F (the Amazon listing says 500°F; go by the maker’s lower figure). The maker says the pans are dishwasher safe but recommends hand washing, and describes the warranty only as a quality assurance guarantee. The coating type is not stated. Soft tools and gentle washing keep any nonstick releasing longer.

Why we like it

  • Ten pieces for a low outlay
  • Heavy-gauge steel, per the listing
  • Extra-wide silicone grips
  • Covered 9 x 13-inch pan for carrying

Key specifications

Combined set or separate pieces? An honest note

Combined sets are convenient, but buying cookware and bakeware separately often works better, and the people who review cookware for a living tend to agree. America’s Test Kitchen says it usually recommends buying cookware piece by piece, beginning with a few essential pans, and its guide to building your own set puts it bluntly: its advice has always been to skip sets and buy the pans you need.

The reasons carry over to combined sets. America’s Test Kitchen notes that makers count lids and utensils as pieces, so a big piece count can hide few pans, and that sets rarely include full-size pieces such as a 12-inch skillet. A combined set adds another compromise: the bakeware and cookware come from one maker and often share one coating, even though a sheet pan and a sauté pan do very different jobs. A kitchen would pick stainless or cast iron for the stove and plain aluminum or aluminized steel for the oven.

Combined sets still earn their place in three cases: a first kitchen that needs everything at once, a gift, or a cook who values one matching look and one storage system above all. Otherwise, a sound cookware set plus the USA Pan or Nordic Ware bakeware above usually covers more cooking for the same money.

How to choose a cookware and bakeware set

1. Count the pans, not the pieces

Split the listing into cooking pieces, baking pieces and extras. Caraway’s 23 pieces are four pots and pans plus bakeware and storage; CAROTE’s 31 include handles, lids, protectors and utensils. The pans are what you are paying for.

2. Check the oven rating of both halves

Bakeware lives in the oven, so the limit matters more than it does for pots. Caraway rates both halves to 550°F, Gotham Steel to 500°F, USA Pan and Rachael Ray to 450°F; CAROTE and Nordic Ware’s listings give no figure. Caraway also says its bakeware should not go under the broiler.

3. Match the cookware to your stovetop

Induction needs a magnetic base. Caraway, CAROTE and the Gotham Steel Hammered set list induction; the Gotham Steel 20-piece set does not. Bakeware-only sets do not touch the stovetop at all.

4. Decide on coated or uncoated

Most combined sets coat everything. Conventional nonstick is usually PTFE, a fluoropolymer in the PFAS family; the FDA says studies show negligible amounts of PFAS in nonstick coatings can migrate to food. Ceramic coatings such as Caraway’s and Gotham Steel’s are sold by their makers as free of PFAS or PFOA. If you prefer no coating at all, uncoated aluminum sheet pans and cast iron, which Lodge says is made without PFAS, avoid the question and cannot wear off.

5. Plan for storage and care

Combined sets take a lot of room; Caraway includes racks and CAROTE’s handles come off for stacking. Care rules vary widely: Caraway and USA Pan ask for hand washing, Gotham Steel says its pieces are dishwasher safe, and cast iron needs drying and oiling. Pick the care routine you will actually follow.

How we chose these eight sets

We started from how a restaurant kitchen equips itself: stovetop pans and bakeware chosen separately, each for its job, with clear oven limits and care rules. We then searched Amazon US for combined cookware and bakeware sets and for bakeware sets from makers we could identify, kept only those in stock when we checked, and took the pieces, materials, coatings, oven ratings, induction compatibility, care rules and warranties from the Amazon listings and the makers’ own pages, including Caraway’s care and warranty pages, USA Pan’s use-and-care page and Lodge’s product page. The case for buying separately comes from America’s Test Kitchen’s cookware set review and its guide to building your own set; coating background comes from the FDA’s page on PFAS in food-contact applications. We left out many large combined sets from sellers that publish few specifications, and scarce or out-of-stock items. We have not cooked or baked with these sets for this guide.

Cookware and bakeware set questions, answered

What is the best cookware and bakeware set?

Of the combined sets here, the Caraway 23-piece set has the clearest specifications and the highest oven rating, 550°F for both halves, with induction-ready cookware. The Gotham Steel 20-piece set is the lower-cost choice with a 10-year limited guarantee, but it does not work on induction.

Is it cheaper to buy a combined set?

Often, per piece. But America’s Test Kitchen points out that savings do not mean much if you will not use all the pieces or lack storage space. If you already own some good pans, adding a bakeware set separately is usually the better buy.

Can bakeware go on the stovetop?

Generally no. Sheet pans and cake pans are made for the oven. Cast iron is the exception for skillets and griddles, but Lodge’s Baker’s Favorite set is sold as oven bakeware.

Which bakeware pieces matter most?

For most home kitchens: a half sheet pan, a 9 by 13-inch or square baking pan, a muffin pan and a loaf pan. A cooling rack that fits the half sheet is a useful extra. Our guide to the best egg muffin pan covers muffin pans in detail.

Is nonstick bakeware necessary?

No. Plain aluminum sheet pans, like the Nordic Ware Naturals, work with parchment paper and have no coating to wear out. Nonstick bakeware makes cakes and muffins release more easily but needs soft tools and gentle washing.

Our final word on cookware and bakeware sets

Buy the Caraway 23-piece set if you want one matching, well-specified kit for the stove and the oven and will hand wash it. Choose the Gotham Steel 20-piece for the most complete combined set at a lower cost on gas or electric, the CAROTE 31-piece for tight storage and induction, and the Gotham Steel Hammered for a smaller induction-ready combo. If you already own pots you like, skip the combo and add the USA Pan 5-piece or Nordic Ware Naturals sheet pans instead.
