Klean Kanteen’s names blur together, but the range sorts into a few plain groups: TKWide is the wide insulated bottle, Classic is the narrow steel one, Reflect is the bare version, and Rise is the newer insulated line. Caps change what each does, so the cap on your listing matters as much as the bottle.
This guide is for people who have already picked Klean Kanteen and want the right model. It says which model suits which buyer, and where a rival does better. To compare other makers, read our water bottle guide. For children’s bottles, see our kids water bottle guide.

Quick verdict: which Klean Kanteen to buy
The TKWide 32 Ounce has the most independent evidence and suits most people, with one warning: it leaked in GearLab’s test. Choose the TKWide 20 Ounce for a smaller daily carry, the Classic 18 Ounce if light weight matters more than cold water, and the Reflect if you want steel and bamboo with no paint.

Our picks for the best klean kanteen
Seven models and sizes, one listing each. All are sold by Pattern Professional, a third-party seller, not by Amazon directly, so check the return terms. Color is your own call.
1. Klean Kanteen TKWide Insulated Bottle, 32 Ounce – Most Evidence Behind It

The TKWide is the Klean Kanteen with the most independent evidence, and this is the size measured by Outdoor Life, whose Alex Robinson made it his best thermos for the environment. From 150-degree water it read 131 degrees F at 3 hours and 103 at 12, a few degrees behind the Stanley he liked best at 12 hours. His one complaint: “Additional caps are overly complicated.”
GearLab tested a 24-ounce TKWide and ranked it fifth of 15, with a score of 76. It likes the stainless steel straw in the Twist Cap, the only one in its group, but the silicone mouthpiece gave an industrial taste early on, and it leaked in GearLab’s controlled test. The listing calls the design leak proof, so we would carry it upright with care until you have tried yours.
The listing states up to 59 hours iced, a built-in reusable steel straw and a body that fits most cup holders, at about 1.14 pounds empty. At 32 ounces and 10.4 inches tall it is a real day’s supply.
Why we like it
- Outdoor Life’s pick for the environment
- Ranked fifth of 15 by GearLab, in the 24-ounce size
- Built-in steel straw
- Fits most cup holders, per the listing
Key specifications

| Insulated | Yes |
| Stated time (listing) | Up to 59 hours iced |
| Size and weight (listing) | 10.4 in, 1.14 lb |
| Warranty (listing) | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits anyone who wants one large insulated bottle for a workday or a day out and prefers a steel straw to plastic.
Skip it if it has to ride sideways in a bag; GearLab saw it leak in controlled testing conditions, and Hydro Flask’s lid did better there.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Most independent evidence in the range
- Steel straw
- Good day’s capacity
Cons
- Leaked in GearLab’s test
- Industrial taste at first, per GearLab
- Extra caps can confuse, per Outdoor Life
2. Klean Kanteen TKWide Insulated Bottle, 20 Ounce – Same Design, Easier to Carry

If 32 ounces sounds like a lot to carry, this is the same bottle with the same Twist Cap and steel straw in a size closer to what most people drink at a desk. The listing states a lifetime manufacturer warranty, which the 32-ounce listing leaves out, and it repeats the 59-hour iced claim. A smaller bottle holding the same hours as a larger one is doubtful, so treat that figure with caution.
Lauren Maternowski at Pack Hacker wrote about the 16-ounce sibling and found it short on capacity for its outside size, and the weakest of the insulated bottles in her group, though adequate for a workday. It came through two weeks with scuffs and “no dents.” She also says the pop-up straw tip can stick and some liquid in the straw slowly drips out. Those points should carry over to this size, though she did not test it.
Why we like it
- Same Twist Cap and steel straw
- Lifetime warranty, per the listing
- Fits most cup holders, per the listing

| Insulated | Yes |
| Stated time (listing) | Up to 59 hours iced |
| Size and weight (listing) | 10.85 in, weight unclear on listing |
| Warranty (listing) | Lifetime manufacturer |
Why we recommend it
It suits a desk, a gym bag or a car, for one person drinking through the day.
Skip it if you want the most water for the size; Pack Hacker calls the TKWide small for its outer dimensions.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Easier to carry than the 32
- Warranty stated
- Dishwasher safe in the 16-ounce review
Cons
- Hours claim looks generous
- Straw can stick, per Pack Hacker
- Some drip from the straw, per Pack Hacker
3. Klean Kanteen TKWide Coffee Tumbler, 12 Ounce – For the Morning Cup

Pair the TKWide body with a Café Cap and you have a travel coffee cup. The 12-ounce holds a normal coffee, and its listing claims up to 11 hours hot and 38 hours iced, with a leak-proof cap and a swivel loop. It stands 7.25 inches tall, weighs 0.78 pounds and fits most cup holders.
We read no independent test of this tumbler. The 16-ounce version is on our hot drink tumbler guide, so we chose the small one here. If keeping coffee hot is your only aim, compare it with a Zojirushi mug. Klean Kanteen’s advantage is that it shares a family of bodies and caps, not that its heat numbers are proven.
Why we like it
- Up to 11 hours hot, per the listing
- Leak-proof Café Cap, per the listing
- Swivel carry loop
- Short and stable
Key specifications

| Stated time (listing) | 11 hours hot, 38 iced |

| Warranty (listing) | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits a daily coffee on the commute for someone who buys or brews a normal-size cup.
Skip it if you drink big coffees; 12 ounces runs out fast, and the 16 is on our hot drink guide.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Compact
- Hot and cold use
- Loop for carrying
Cons
- Listing evidence only
- Small
- Heavy for 12 ounces
4. Klean Kanteen Classic With Flip Seal Cap, 18 Ounce – Slim and Light

The Classic is the plain, narrow steel bottle the company built its name on. This one weighs 0.44 pounds on the listing and has a narrow profile with a flip spout that works with or without an included steel straw. It is made with certified 90 percent post-consumer recycled 18/8 steel and a chip-resistant finish, and it fits most cup holders and bags.
The listing makes no claim about insulation or hours, so assume it won’t keep water cold for long. What it gives you in return is low weight and a slim shape. The 27-ounce version is on our water bottle guide. Pack Hacker lists a Classic 27 at 7.5 ounces, but its review text was behind a sign-in, so we read nothing beyond that spec.
Why we like it
- 0.44 pounds, per the listing
- Flip spout with optional steel straw
- 90 percent recycled steel, per the listing
- Fits most cup holders, per the listing
Key specifications
| Model | 1011188 |

| Insulated | No claim on the listing |
| Stated time (listing) | Not stated |
| Size and weight (listing) | 8.8 in, 0.44 lb |
| Warranty (listing) | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits short days and anyone who wants the lightest steel bottle and refills often.
Skip it if you want cold water after a morning in the sun; choose a TKWide or Rise.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Light
- Slim
- Cap can go with or without straw
Cons
- No insulation claim
- Small
- Listing evidence only

5. Klean Kanteen Reflect With Bamboo Cap, 27 Ounce – Steel and Bamboo, No Paint

The Reflect is for buyers who do not want paint or coatings. Its listing says no paint, ink, coatings or plastic, with a cap of bamboo, food-grade silicone and steel that leaves an all-stainless interior. It is single wall and not insulated, holds 27 ounces and uses any Classic Cap if you want another style later.
Bamboo needs more care than plastic. Keep the cap out of long soaks, and dry it after washing. We read no independent review of the Reflect. A listing is no test of how the cap holds up, so check it now and then.
Why we like it
- No paint, ink or coating, per the listing
- All-stainless interior with the bamboo cap
- Compatible with Classic Caps, per the listing
- Lifetime warranty, per the listing
Key specifications
| Model | 1008542 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 27 oz |
| Line | Reflect |
| Cap | Bamboo |
| Insulated | No, single wall |
| Stated time (listing) | None |
| Size and weight (listing) | 9.8 in, 0.5 lb |
| Warranty (listing) | Lifetime manufacturer |
Why we recommend it
It suits people who want bare steel against their water and will treat a bamboo cap with some care.
Skip it if you put ice in and carry it all day; single-wall steel sweats and warms quickly.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Simple materials
- Easy to swap caps
- Warranty stated
Cons
- Not insulated
- Bamboo cap needs care
- Listing evidence only
6. Klean Kanteen Rise Classic Insulated Bottle, 20 Ounce – The Newer Insulated Bottle

The Rise Classic is a newer insulated bottle with an Arch Loop Cap, made of 90 percent recycled stainless steel. This listing claims 65 hours cold and over 22 hours hot, and adds dishwasher safe, sweat-proof and BPA-free. It is 11.3 inches tall and about a pound on the listing.
We would not lean on those hours. Another 20-ounce Rise listing states 65 hours in its title and 42 hours cold and 14 hot in its text, and we did not find an independent test of the bottle. We use this listing because it is at least consistent. Choose it for the cap and the dishwasher care, and not for a number.
Why we like it
- Arch Loop Cap is easy to carry, per the listing
- Dishwasher safe, per the listing
- Sweat-proof, per the listing
Key specifications
| Model | 1011873 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 20 oz |
| Line | Rise |
| Cap | Arch Loop Cap |
| Insulated | Yes |
| Stated time (listing) | 65 hours cold, 22 hot; see text |
| Size and weight (listing) | 11.3 in, 1 lb |
| Warranty (listing) | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits someone who wants a simple sealed bottle they can hook on a finger and put in the dishwasher.
Skip it if you want drinking without a cap to unscrew; the loop cap has to come off each time, so a TKWide straw is quicker.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Dishwasher safe, per the listing
- Simple cap
- Recycled steel, per the listing
Cons
- Stated hours conflict between listings
- No independent test that we read
- Tall for 20 ounces
7. Klean Kanteen Rise Tumbler, 16 Ounce – For the Desk, Not the Bag

The Rise Tumbler is a wide cup with a slide lid and an impact-resistant base. Kristyne Defever at Pack Hacker found the maker’s 6 hours hot and 23 hours cold “fairly accurate,” but only with the lid closed. The listing says splash-proof, and she confirms that it is not leak-proof: fill it and tip it, and it spills.
She also found that condensation on the silicone seal can drip, that it does not fit a daypack’s bottle pocket well, and that “no amount of soaking or scrubbing can completely eliminate the scent” from the gasket after coffee, water and tea. Keep one for one kind of drink. It sits easily in a cup holder, so a car or desk suits it best.
Why we like it
- Pack Hacker found stated hours fairly accurate
- Slide lid flips open one-handed, per Pack Hacker
- Fits cup holders, per Pack Hacker
- Dishwasher safe, per the listing
Key specifications
| Model | 1011602 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 16 oz |
| Line | Rise |
| Cap | Splash-proof slide lid |
| Insulated | Yes |
| Stated time (listing) | 6 hours hot, 23 cold |
| Size and weight (listing) | 6.5 in, 0.64 lb |
| Warranty (listing) | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits a desk or a car, for someone who wants one mug-like cup through the day.
Skip it if it goes in a bag; Pack Hacker says it leaks when tipped.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Independent check on the hours
- Sits well in a cup holder
- Short and stable
Cons
- Not leak-proof
- Gasket holds smells, per Pack Hacker
- Condensation drips, per Pack Hacker
Where Klean Kanteen falls short, and who to look at instead
- Leaks and insulation on the TKWide. GearLab saw it leak, and Pack Hacker ranked its 16-ounce last for insulation among its insulated bottles. Outdoor Life’s 32-ounce results were fine but behind its top two. GearLab’s top pick is the Hydro Flask Wide Mouth, with a score of 84 to the TKWide’s 76, and the Hydro Flask’s lid held all its liquid. If leaks are your worry, start there.
- Stated hours are hard to trust. Listings repeat the same 59 hours across different sizes and disagree about the Rise. Compare models on what reviewers found, and not on the number in a title.
- Weight on insulated models. GearLab measured the 24-ounce TKWide at 14.7 ounces empty. If you hike, a plain Classic or an uninsulated plastic bottle will be much lighter.
- Sold by a third party. Every listing we picked was sold by Pattern Professional, which is not the same as buying direct.

How to choose a Klean Kanteen
1. Decide on insulation first
If you want cold water for hours, choose a TKWide or Rise. If you refill often and prefer less weight, a Classic or Reflect will do. An uninsulated steel bottle in the sun is warm water by lunch.
2. Choose by the cap, not only the bottle
A straw suits sipping at a desk, a flip spout suits walking, a Café Cap suits coffee, and a loop cap is simplest to clean. Klean Kanteen sells several, and Outdoor Life found the extras a bit complicated, so buy with the cap you want already on it.

3. Match the size to where you carry it
Listings for the TKWide and the Classic say they fit most cup holders. Pack Hacker warns that a TKWide holds less than its size suggests, so if capacity matters, compare ounces and not looks.
4. Plan the cleaning
Silicone holds smells. Pack Hacker found the Rise gasket kept a coffee scent for good, while it found the TKWide cap easy to take apart. Keep one bottle for water if you can, and wash the cap at the end of every day.
How we picked these seven Klean Kanteen bottles
We pulled Klean Kanteen listings from the Amazon API on November 3, 2026, kept those new and in plain stock, and took one listing per model and size. We left out exact listings already on our other guides, including the Classic 27 and the 16-ounce coffee tumbler, kids’ bottles, and color repeats. We read Outdoor Life’s thermos test (updated February 2024), GearLab’s 2026 water bottle guide and Pack Hacker’s TKWide and Rise Tumbler reviews (2025 and 2024). We did not test anything ourselves.
Klean Kanteen questions, answered
Klean Kanteen Classic vs TKWide: which should I buy?
The TKWide is wider and insulated, and takes hot or cold drinks. The Classic here is narrow, lighter and makes no insulation claim. Buy the TKWide if temperature matters, and the Classic if weight does.
Do Klean Kanteen bottles leak?
Listings say the caps are leak proof, but independent results vary. GearLab’s TKWide leaked in its test, Pack Hacker’s TKWide cap sealed tightly apart from a drip from the straw, and the Rise Tumbler is only splash-proof.
Can you put a Klean Kanteen in the dishwasher?
Rise listings say yes, and Pack Hacker says the TKWide bottle is. The Classic, Reflect and bamboo cap listings do not say so, and we would not put bamboo in one.
Can it hold hot drinks?
The TKWide coffee tumbler and the Rise line state hot times. Only use hot liquid in a model whose listing gives one, and be careful with a straw cap.
Has Klean Kanteen been recalled?
Yes, once in the records we searched. In May 2010, it recalled about 1.2 million Sport Cap 2.0 spouts in the US because they could break or crack and pose a choking hazard. That is an older cap, not the Flip Seal cap on our pick. Check cpsc.gov for your own product.
Our final pick from the Klean Kanteen range
Start with the TKWide in 32 ounces if you want all day from one fill, or 20 if you do not. Treat it with care until you know how it behaves in your bag. And when water will not do, call to order from Julia’s at (346) 546-8283.
