For Whole Loaves: The Best Long Slot Toaster, Measured by the Slot

Seven long-slot toasters for sourdough and country loaves, with stated slot lengths, what America's Test Kitchen found, and who should skip each one.

Slices of dark seeded bread fanned out on a wooden board

A regular toaster assumes sandwich bread. Buy a round loaf of sourdough or a big country loaf, and the slices stick out of the top, so you have to cut them in half or flip them halfway through. A long-slot toaster fixes that with one or two slots long enough to take the whole slice.

America’s Test Kitchen says it prefers long-slot toasters overall because they are more versatile. But length varies widely, and many listings do not state it. This guide puts slot size first and notes where it is unstated. Our main toaster guide compares every type, including a Breville long-slot model that we do not repeat here.

Quick verdict: which long-slot toaster to buy

If you buy whole loaves, the best long slot toaster is the Magimix Vision: America’s Test Kitchen names it its overall favorite, with 10.25-inch slots and glass walls, though it runs hot past mid-dial. For four slices at once, look at the KitchenAid 4-Slice Long Slot. For a narrow counter, the Martha Stewart 2-Slice Long Slot is only 3.5 inches wide.

Each pick ends with one honest reason to skip it, and we flag where the slot length is not stated.

What long slot really buys you, in inches

ATK’s favorites have slots at least 10 inches long, which lets two slices of sandwich bread sit side by side. Under that, it counts a shorter slot as a minor flaw. So a 10-inch slot does two jobs: one big slice of country bread, or two ordinary slices. A 9-inch slot may only do the first.

Two formats share the name. Slim toasters have a single long slot and take two slices, often in a body under 4 inches wide. Four-slice toasters have two long slots side by side. The first saves counter depth, and the second makes more toast at once. Neither helps with a very thick bagel unless the slot is also wide, so look for around 1.5 inches. If bagels are your main use, see our bagel toaster guide.

Our picks for the best long slot toaster

Every toaster here states long slots in its listing or was measured by ATK. All seven were plain new offers in stock on Amazon when we wrote this, and none is an exact listing used on another page of ours.

1. Magimix Vision Long Slot Toaster – Glass Walls, Quartz Heat

Best overallMagimix Toaster Vision Chrome 1450 Watt Toaster

America’s Test Kitchen’s 2026 toaster review names the Magimix Vision, model 11526, its favorite overall. It has glass walls so you can watch the bread, a stop button and slots ATK measured at 10.25 by 6.88 inches. That length is what lets two slices of sandwich bread sit side by side. ATK reported even toast on most settings and warned that it runs hot past the middle of the dial, so start lower than you expect.

The listing describes four settings (toast both sides, toast one side, defrost and reheat), eight toasting levels, an extra-lift lever, a large crumb tray, four replaceable quartz elements and a three-year warranty. ATK notes quartz heats and cools quickly. It is sold by NutriMill rather than by Amazon. For most people who eat toast from real loaves daily, this is the one with the evidence behind it.

Why we like it

  • ATK’s overall favorite
  • Glass walls show the toast
  • Slots at least 10 inches long, ATK’s bar
  • Replaceable quartz elements and a three-year warranty

Key specifications

Model 11526LC
Capacity 2 to 4 slices
Slot size 10.25 x 6.88 in, per ATK
Shades 8
Functions Both sides, one side, defrost, reheat, stop
Controls Buttons and dial
Power 1450 W
Warranty 3 years

Why we recommend it

It suits someone who buys whole loaves and wants the long-slot toaster with the strongest independent result.

Skip it if you want a cool exterior or a low-effort dial; start lower and expect a learning curve, because ATK says the upper settings run hot.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Strong independent review
  • See-through walls
  • Toast one side option

Cons

  • Runs hot past mid-dial, per ATK
  • Sold by a third-party seller
  • Glass needs wiping

2. KitchenAid 4-Slice Long Slot Toaster – High Lift, Familiar Maker

Best two-slot longKitchenAid KMT4116ER 4 Slice Long Slot Toaster with High Lift Lever

KitchenAid’s 4-slice long-slot model has two long slots with stated 1.5-inch width, a high-lift lever and a removable crumb tray. There are seven shades with bagel, defrost, reheat and keep warm, and the cord stores under the base. Two long slots mean either four ordinary slices or two long ones, so a family can use it either way.

ATK reviewed a different KitchenAid long-slot model, the discontinued 2-slice KMT3115, and said it stayed cool and toasted fairly evenly but that two oversize sandwich slices barely fit in its slot. That is a clue about the family rather than a result for this one. This listing is sold by a third-party seller called always quality, and its warranty line reads one year, so confirm that coverage with the seller before buying.

Why we like it

  • Two long slots, four slices
  • Stated 1.5-inch width
  • Keep warm setting
  • Under-base cord storage

Key specifications

Capacity 4 slices
Slot size Long; 1.5 in wide; length not stated

Why we recommend it

It suits a family that often needs four slices at breakfast and sometimes toasts long sourdough.

  • Known maker
  • Extra lift for short items

  • Third-party seller
  • Slot length not on the listing

3. Martha Stewart 2-Slice Long Slot Toaster – Slim Body, Ten Shades

Best slimMartha Stewart 2 Slice Long Slot Toaster

This toaster is only 3.5 inches wide, according to the listing, so it can sit in a gap that would never take a regular toaster. It has one 10-inch slot that takes two slices side by side or one long slice. Ten shade settings give finer steps than any other pick here, and automatic centering holds the bread in place.

It has a cancel button, a high-lift lever, a cool-touch control panel and a cord wrap underneath, with 900 watts of stated power. The listing says the line is exclusive to Amazon, and it looks recent, so buyer history may be short. A related Martha Stewart two-slice toaster with a gluten-free preset is on our gluten-free toaster guide; this is the single long-slot version.

Why we like it

  • 3.5-inch wide body
  • 10-inch slot meets ATK’s preferred length
  • Ten shade settings
  • Automatic centering

Key specifications

Model CC010806-001
Capacity 2 slices
Slot size 10 in, one slot
Shades 10
Functions Cancel
Controls Buttons
Power 900 W

Why we recommend it

It suits a small kitchen or a shallow counter where a long toaster has to fit along the wall.

Skip it if you need a bagel or defrost setting; the listing names only shade control and cancel.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Very slim
  • 10-inch slot
  • Lots of shade choices

Cons

  • Lower wattage than the four-slice picks
  • Function list is short
  • Warranty not on the listing

4. bella Fits-Anywhere 2-Slice Slim Toaster – One Long Slot, Few Buttons

Simplestbella Fits-Anywhere™ 2-Slice Slim Toaster

bella’s slim toaster follows the same layout as the Martha Stewart: one extra-wide, 10-inch slot in a 3.58-inch body. It takes two slices side by side or one long slice. Six shade settings and a cancel function keep operation simple, and the high-lift lever raises short pieces like English muffins. A removable crumb tray and cord wrap handle the tidying.

This is the entry point for the slim format. The listing gives no wattage, warranty or bagel setting, and we found no independent review of it, so the pick rests on what bella states. If you only want a toaster that fits a long slice and does not sit in the way, that may be all you need.

Why we like it

  • 10-inch slot stated
  • Narrow 3.58-inch body
  • High-lift lever
  • Removable crumb tray

Key specifications

Model T30184 / 35117
Capacity 2 slices
Slot size 10 in, one slot

Controls Dial and button
Power Not stated
Warranty Not stated on the listing

Why we recommend it

It suits someone who wants the long slot and the slim shape without extra features.

Skip it if you want more browning settings or named functions; the Martha Stewart gives more steps and the Magimix has more settings.

  • Narrow
  • Long slot

5. Elite Gourmet 4-Slice Long Slot Toaster – Four Slices in a Narrow Footprint

Four-slice valueElite Gourmet 4-Slice Long Slot Toaster

Elite Gourmet’s ECT4829B holds four slices in two long slots and states 1.5-inch width and 1300 watts. Six shades cover light to dark, and there are cancel, defrost and reheat buttons, with self-centering guides and a slide-out crumb tray. It is a plainer model than two Elite Gourmet long-slot toasters on our other pages, which add a warming rack or a true bagel setting.

We see it as the pick for someone who wants the four-slice long format with basic controls. Elite Gourmet does not state the slot length on this listing, and we found no independent review, so measure a loaf against the listed specifications if you can, or check with the maker.

Why we like it

  • Four-slice capacity
  • 1.5-inch width stated
  • Self-centering guides
  • 1300 W stated

6. CUSIMAX 4-Slice Long Slot Toaster – Published Slot Length and Depth

Best stated slots4 Slice Toaster

Few listings publish slot length and depth together, and this one does: 10.24 inches long by 5.7 inches deep, which is above ATK’s 10-inch bar. It has nine browning levels, a glance function that lets you check mid-cycle, and bagel, defrost and cancel settings. The stainless housing has side vents, and the crumb tray pulls out.

CUSIMAX is an Amazon-first brand and this looks like a recent listing, so there is no long record behind it and we found no independent review. The stated 18-month warranty is decent for this class. We include it for its clear numbers and leave the top spots to better-evidenced makers.

Why we like it

  • 10.24 x 5.7-inch slots stated
  • Glance check mid-cycle
  • Nine browning levels
  • 18-month warranty stated

Key specifications

Model ST-435
Capacity 4 slices
Slot size 10.24 x 5.7 in
Shades 9
Functions Bagel, defrost, cancel, glance
Controls Buttons
Power Not stated
Warranty 18 months

Why we recommend it

It suits someone who wants the numbers in writing, and who accepts a younger brand.

Skip it if you prefer an established maker with parts and service history.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Published slot dimensions
  • Fine browning control
  • Mid-cycle check

Cons

  • Young brand
  • No independent review found
  • Sold by a third-party seller, not Amazon

7. Keenstone 4-Slice Touch Screen Toaster – Bread Choices on a Touch Screen

Touch controlsKeenstone 4 Slice Touch Screen Toaster with Long Wide Slots

Keenstone’s touch-screen model has two slots at a stated 1.5 inches wide and 9.3 inches long, 1400 watts, six browning levels, and defrost, reheat, memory, single-slice and cancel functions. Single slice is unusual on a long toaster and useful when you do not need the whole element running.

The slot length falls short of ATK’s 10-inch preference, so two large slices may not sit side by side. Keenstone is another Amazon-first brand with a stated two-year warranty, and the listing looks recent. We count it as the last choice here: consider it if touch controls and memory matter to you more than slot length.

Why we like it

  • Single-slice function
  • Memory setting
  • Two-year warranty stated
  • Slot size published

Key specifications

Model TS019SO10NBA
Capacity 4 slices
Slot size 9.3 x 1.5 in
Shades 6
Functions Defrost, reheat, memory, single slice, cancel
Controls Touch screen
Power 1400 W
Warranty 2 years

Why we recommend it

It suits someone who likes touch controls and mostly toasts one or two ordinary slices.

Skip it if you need slots of at least 10 inches for large loaves.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Modern controls
  • Single-slice mode
  • Long stated warranty for this class

Cons

  • Slots under 10 inches
  • Young brand
  • Rests on the listing alone

How to choose a long-slot toaster

Measure your bread first

Measure a slice of the loaf you actually buy. If your sourdough slices run 8 inches, a 9.3-inch slot works for one slice but not two. Our picks range from 9.3 to 10.25 inches where a figure is stated.

Choose between slim and four-slice

Check the counter space you actually have. A slim toaster fits along a wall, and a four-slice one needs a wider footprint but makes more toast at once.

Two halves of a round open-crumb loaf against a black background
The tall cut face of a round loaf.

Look at slot depth too

A deep slot covers a tall slice from a big round loaf. ATK’s Magimix has a stated 6.88 inches by its measure, and CUSIMAX lists 5.7. The rest of the picks here do not say.

Expect some unevenness

ATK reported uneven browning on a number of long-slot models, including one from Zwilling that it rated with reservations. A long element has more to cover. Choose a machine with some way to check progress, and expect to learn its settings over the first week.

Check the outside and the seller

Several long-slot toasters get hot on the outside, so leave them room. Some listings here are sold by third parties, so read the seller’s return terms and confirm warranty coverage.

How we picked these seven long-slot toasters

We kept only toasters that state long slots, were plain in-stock new offers, and came from identifiable makers, with no more than two Amazon-first brands. We read America’s Test Kitchen’s 2026 toaster review, which covers the Magimix and related models. The others rest on maker and listing details, since we found no independent review of those exact models. We have not used these products ourselves.

We left out the Zwilling Enfinigy 2, because ATK found it fast but uneven with a very hot exterior and too short for two slices side by side. Breville’s 4-slice long-slot model is on our main guide, its Bit More 4-slice and Dualit and Smeg long-slot toasters showed limited stock, and the only in-stock Smeg we saw was a reseller’s bundle. We searched the CPSC recall database through saferproducts.gov by brand. It shows a 2005 KitchenAid toaster recall on older models, and several unrelated Martha Stewart and bella-named recalls that are not toasters. None names a model on this page.

Long-slot toaster questions, answered

What is a long-slot toaster?

It is a toaster with one or two slots long enough to take a full slice from a big loaf, or two ordinary slices end to end. Listings usually say around 10 inches.

Are long-slot toasters worth it?

If you buy whole loaves, yes. ATK prefers long-slot toasters overall for their versatility. If you only eat sandwich bread, a two-slot toaster takes up less room, and our main toaster guide covers those.

How long should the slots be?

ATK’s favorites are at least 10 inches long. That fits two slices of sandwich bread side by side.

Can a long-slot toaster do bagels?

Yes, if the slot is wide enough. Look for about 1.5 inches. The KitchenAid here states that width. Read the manual on any bagel setting to see which side faces where, because ATK found one model that had it reversed.

Why does a long toaster toast unevenly?

ATK reported uneven browning across several models. ATK saw front-to-back differences on one model. Use a middle setting, and turn the slice for a short second round if needed.

Our final pick for whole loaves

We would buy the Magimix Vision if you eat real bread daily and want the toaster with the best independent evidence. For a tighter budget or counter, the Martha Stewart is a simple start. Our main toaster guide compares the other types, and our Mexican brunch guide has ideas for the toast. When you would rather sit down to breakfast, call to order from Julia’s on a Sunday morning.
