Soups, Marinades, Juicy Meat: The Best Vacuum Sealer for Wet Foods

Eight edge vacuum sealers with moist modes, pulse controls and drip trays, plus how to seal soups and marinades and store them safely.

Rows of white bowls of soup lined up on a stainless steel counter
Bowls of soup lined up on a steel counter.

Most vacuum sealers do well with a dry steak or a bag of coffee beans. Wet food is where they struggle. Pull the air out of a bag of carne asada in its marinade, a portion of birria with its consommé or a quart of pozole, and the pump draws the liquid up the bag toward the seal bar. A wet seal is a weak seal, and liquid that gets past it ends up in the machine.

This guide covers eight edge-style vacuum sealers whose makers build in something for moist food: a moist or liquid mode, a moisture sensor, a pulse button that lets you stop before the liquid moves, or a removable drip tray that catches what does. It sits under our main guide to the best vacuum sealer, which covers sealers for every job, and it ends with what university food-safety specialists say about storing vacuum-packed food.

Quick verdict: which vacuum sealer to buy for wet foods

For most kitchens, the FoodSaver V4400 2-in-1 Vacuum Sealer is the one to buy: FoodSaver says it detects moisture and switches to the right mode on its own, and its removable drip tray is dishwasher safe. If you seal soups, stews and sauces often, the Nesco VS-22LB Premium Vacuum Sealer has a dedicated Liquid mode, a Pulse setting and a double heat seal. If you pour more liquid than you pack meat, look at a chamber sealer instead (see below).

Below, five of them side by side, then all eight in detail, then how to seal soups and marinades without a mess.

Our picks for the best vacuum sealer for wet foods

All eight are edge sealers, the kind where the open end of the bag sits in a channel and the machine pulls air out from that end. None repeats a pick from our main vacuum sealer guide. Each pick says who it suits, what the maker or listing states, and one honest reason to skip it.

1. FoodSaver V4400 2-in-1 Vacuum Sealer – Senses Moisture on Its Own

Best overallFoodSaver V4400 2-in-1 Vacuum Sealer Machine with Automatic Vacuum Sealer Bag Detection and Starter Kit

FoodSaver is the name most home cooks know, and the V4400 is its machine for people who would rather not think about modes. The listing says “smart technology automatically detects moisture and switches to the correct mode to ensure an airtight seal is achieved.” Automatic bag detection starts the cycle once you put the bag in, and LED lights show where it is in the process.

The feature that matters most with wet food is the drip tray. FoodSaver calls it patented and removable, says it “will catch any overflow liquid,” and says it is dishwasher safe. So when a little marinade from a bag of pollo asado or a spoonful of salsa verde gets past the bag, it lands in a tray you can wash, not inside the machine.

Built-in roll storage and a cutter let you make bags to size. It takes FoodSaver 8- and 11-inch rolls and pre-made bags, and the “2-in-1” name refers to its accessory use: the listing says it works with FoodSaver zipper bags, Fresh containers and the Quick Marinator. The listing’s warranty field says one year, while a bullet mentions a five-year limited warranty, so confirm the term with FoodSaver when you register it.

Why we like it

  • Automatic moisture detection, per FoodSaver
  • Removable, dishwasher-safe drip tray
  • Automatic bag detection
  • Roll storage and cutter built in

2. Nesco VS-22LB Premium Vacuum Sealer – A Dedicated Liquid Mode

Best for soups and saucesNESCO VS‑22LB Premium Vacuum Sealer for Home Food Storage

Nesco built this model around wet food. The listing describes “LiquidLock technology with dedicated liquid mode,” which “slows liquid movement during sealing,” and names soups, stews, marinades and sauces as the jobs it is for. That is the most direct statement about liquids from any edge sealer here.

It has seven functions: Dry, Liquid, Normal, Gentle, Marinate, Canister and Pulse. Pulse lets you pull the vacuum in short bursts and stop the moment liquid starts to climb, which is the manual trick that works on any sealer that has it. The Marinate setting is for fast marinating, per Nesco. A wide double heat seal bar and a 250-watt motor are listed, and a double seal gives a wet bag a second line of defense.

A removable drip tray, an LED progress display and a lid you can close with one hand round it out, with built-in roll storage, a sliding cutter and a starter kit of bags and rolls. The listing does not give the widest bag it takes or the warranty.

Why we like it

  • Dedicated Liquid mode, per Nesco
  • Pulse and Gentle settings
  • Wide double heat seal bar
  • Removable drip tray

3. Gasbye VS5166 Precision Vacuum Sealer – Double Seal and Spare Parts

Best double sealGasbye 95kPa Precision Vacuum Sealer with Built-in Bag Storage & Cutter

Gasbye explains its Pulse mode in wet-food terms: it is “for moist foods to help keep liquids in the bag,” as well as for delicate foods that would crush. One-touch Auto Vac & Seal handles everyday bags, and the listing rates the suction at 95 kPa. Dual sealing strips make a double heat seal, which Gasbye says helps reduce leaks during long sous vide cooks.

Two things set it apart. First, the listing says Gasbye sells a food container made for this model, so you can vacuum marinated meat or saucy food “without pulling liquid into the machine.” Second, it sells spare parts on their own: foam gaskets, the removable drip tray and the cutter. Gaskets and trays are the parts that wear first on a sealer used for wet food, so being able to replace them matters.

The kit includes five pre-cut bags, two 11-inch rolls, two spare gaskets and an external suction hose, and the machine stores a roll and cuts bags to size. It measures about 15.7 by 7.8 by 4.7 inches. Gasbye offers what it calls five-year quality coverage, with a refund or replacement.

Why we like it

  • Pulse mode aimed at moist foods
  • Double heat seal
  • Replacement drip tray and gaskets sold separately
  • Five-year coverage, per Gasbye

Key specifications

It suits a cook who seals moist meat for the freezer or for sous vide and wants a machine whose wearing parts can be replaced.

Skip it if you would rather buy from a long-established name such as FoodSaver or Nesco.

Pros

  • Pulse plus double seal
  • Spare parts available
  • Generous starter kit

Cons

  • Matching container costs extra
  • Less familiar brand
  • No dedicated liquid mode

4. Beelicious Pro VSP801 Smart Vacuum Sealer – Extra Moist Mode and Labels

Best for labeling98kPa Smart Vacuum Sealer with FreshTrack Label Printing & Food Manager App

The VSP801 pairs a wet-food mode with a feature no other sealer here has: it prints labels. On the wet side, the listing describes “an ultra-sensitive moisture sensor” working with an Extra Moist Mode “to better control wet-food sealing for marinated meats, fish, seafood and other high-moisture proteins.” Suction is rated at 98 kPa from two pumps, with widened dual heating strips.

The FreshTrack label printer and the Beelicious app are meant for the freezer problem every batch cook knows: a drawer of frozen bags of salsa, beans and braised meat that all look alike. The app keeps a record of each bag with dates, categories and reminders. If you do not want an app, the sealer still works as a sealer.

The machine also has roll storage, a bag cutter, hose storage, a bag clip, a countdown display, a removable drip tray and a wider handle that Beelicious says is easier on the hands. The listing gives “2+ years” of quality coverage. It does not mention a pulse button.

Why we like it

  • Extra Moist Mode with moisture sensor
  • Prints labels for freezer bags
  • Removable drip tray
  • Dual heating strips

  • Labels and freezer tracking
  • Strong stated suction

Cons

  • No stated pulse
  • App-based features add complexity
  • New model with little track record

5. Potane VS2690 Precision Vacuum Sealer – Sloped Top Keeps Juices Back

Best for juicy meatPOTANE Precision Vacuum Sealer Machine

Potane’s answer to wet food is partly in the shape. The listing says “the sloping top design prevents the juice from being drawn out while vacuuming foods like meat.” When you seal a bag of raw marinated pork for al pastor or chicken in adobo, the bag sits angled with the food low and the open end high, so the juices have further to climb.

It has four food modes, Dry, Moist, Soft and Delicate, and Potane says the controls “precisely feel and vacuum according to the type of foods.” That gives eight presets in all, counting the four operation modes. Potane says it uses enhanced heating wires and a brushless motor, and the machine is ETL certified, per the listing.

Potane offers a five-year warranty and a two-year return guarantee. The listing does not mention a drip tray or a pulse button, and does not state the widest bag it takes.

Why we like it

  • Sloping top keeps juices away from the pump
  • Dry, Moist, Soft and Delicate modes
  • ETL certified, per the listing
  • Five-year warranty

6. Anova Precision Vacuum Sealer (Slim) – Wet Mode in a Small Body

Best compactAnova Culinary Vacuum Sealer

Anova makes sous vide cookers, and this slim sealer is meant to sit beside one. It is not the Anova Precision Vacuum Sealer Pro from our main vacuum sealer guide; it is the smaller, simpler model. The listing calls it a “wet & dry dual food vacuum sealer,” and adds “separate air pulse and seal functions,” so you can pull air in bursts and seal the moment liquid starts to move.

Operation is one button for the normal cycle: put food in an Anova pre-cut or roll bag, season it, insert the open end and press. For sous vide, sealing is about keeping the bag submerged, and Anova says the sealer works with its cookers or any other circulator. If you cook carnitas-style pork shoulder or barbacoa in a water bath, see our best sous vide guide.

It ships with ten pre-cut bags. The listing’s warranty field gives two years. It does not mention a drip tray, a roll cutter or the widest bag it takes.

Why we like it

  • Wet and dry modes, per Anova
  • Separate pulse and seal buttons
  • Slim and easy to store
  • Two-year warranty

Key specifications

  • Manual pulse for wet bags
  • Compact
  • Simple one-button use

Cons

  • No stated drip tray
  • No roll storage or cutter
  • Bag width not stated

7. MEGAWISE VS6621 80kPa Vacuum Sealer – Moist and Cold Modes for Less

Budget pickMEGAWISE 80kPa Food Vacuum Sealer with Built-In Cutter

The MEGAWISE covers the basics of wet sealing without extras. The listing gives four food modes, Dry, Moist, Meat and Cold, and a Pulse mode that it describes for delicate foods; the same pulse is what lets you stop before a marinade reaches the seal. Suction is rated at 80 kPa, and MEGAWISE says compatible bags seal in 10 to 20 seconds.

It seals bags up to 11.8 inches wide and has a built-in cutter. The listing gives the size as about 16.1 by 5.6 by 4 inches, so it stores easily on a shelf. Ten starter bags and a hose for compatible containers come in the box.

The listing does not mention a drip tray or a double seal, and it does not state a warranty. For a machine that comes out for a batch of frozen salsa or a few bags of marinated chicken now and then, those are fair trade-offs.

Why we like it

  • Moist, Meat and Cold modes
  • Pulse control
  • Seals bags up to 11.8 inches
  • Hose for containers included

Key specifications

Model MEGAWISE VS6621 (Silver)

Pros

  • Moist mode and pulse
  • Slim and light to store
  • Built-in cutter

Cons

  • No stated drip tray
  • Warranty not stated

8. NutriChef NCVS80BSS Vacuum Sealer – Removable Liquid Tray and Manual Pulse

Best stainless buildNutriChef Vacuum Sealer Machine with Built-In Bag Storage

NutriChef’s newer sealer has the three wet-food features this page looks for in one machine: a Moist setting, a pulse you can run automatically or by hand, and a removable liquid tray that, per the listing, “captures excess moisture for mess-free sealing.” The settings are Dry, Moist, Seal Only, Vac Only and Vac & Seal.

Seal Only matters more with wet food than it sounds. When liquid starts to rise, you can stop the vacuum and seal straight away, accepting a little air in the bag rather than a wet seal. Suction is rated at 80 kPa and NutriChef says a bag seals in about 15 seconds.

The housing is stainless steel with silicone gaskets, and a thermal fuse stops the machine if it overheats. A built-in bidirectional steel cutter handles bags up to 12 inches wide, and the starter kit includes a roll, five bags and a hose. The listing does not state a warranty.

Why we like it

  • Removable liquid tray
  • Moist mode plus manual pulse
  • Seal Only for stopping early
  • Bags up to 12 inches

Key specifications

Model NutriChef NCVS80BSS (Silver)
Wet-food features Moist mode; Seal Only
Pulse Yes, automatic or manual

Why we recommend it

It suits a cook who wants a moist mode, a pulse and a tray in a stainless housing, and is happy to run the pulse by hand.

Skip it if a stated warranty matters to you; the listing gives none.

  • Wide 12-inch bags

Cons

  • Warranty not stated
  • New model with little track record
  • No stated double seal

Edge sealer or chamber sealer for liquids?

An edge sealer, like every pick on this page, pulls air out through the open end of the bag. Liquid in the bag follows the air toward the seal, which is why moist modes, pulse buttons and drip trays exist. They help with damp food: marinated meat, cooked beans, braised meat with a little sauce. They do not make it practical to seal a bag of thin soup straight from the pot.

A chamber sealer works differently. The whole bag sits inside a closed chamber and the machine removes the air from the chamber, so liquid stays in the bag and you can seal soups, consommé and marinades as they are. Chamber machines are larger and cost more. If you seal liquids often, read our guide to the best chamber vacuum sealer before you buy an edge sealer.

Whichever you choose, the bag matters. Edge sealers need textured or embossed bags so air has a channel to escape, and heavier bags resist punctures from bones. Our guide to the best vacuum seal bags covers both kinds.

How to choose a vacuum sealer for moist food

A moist or liquid mode. Makers describe these differently, but the idea is the same: a gentler vacuum or a longer, hotter seal so a damp bag still closes. A sensor that switches modes on its own, as on the FoodSaver V4400 and the Beelicious, saves you from remembering.

A pulse button. Pulse lets you pull the vacuum in bursts and stop the moment liquid starts to climb. It is the single most useful control for wet food, and the Nesco, Gasbye, Anova, MEGAWISE and NutriChef all list one.

A removable drip tray. Liquid will reach the channel sooner or later. A tray you can lift out and wash keeps it out of the machine. The FoodSaver’s is dishwasher safe, per the listing.

A double seal. Two seal lines, as on the Nesco and Gasbye, give a wet bag a backup if one line is weak.

Replaceable parts and a clear warranty. Wet sealing is hard on gaskets. A maker that sells spare gaskets and trays, or that states a long warranty, is worth favoring.

How to seal soups, marinades and saucy leftovers

The most reliable method for anything you could pour is to freeze it first. Ladle cooled soup, pozole or beans into a bag or a container, stand it upright or lay it flat in the freezer until it is solid, then vacuum seal it. Frozen liquid cannot be drawn toward the seal. For marinated meat, chill it well, keep the marinade to what clings to the meat, and leave a generous gap between the food and the open end of the bag, then use the moist mode or pulse.

Wipe the inside of the bag’s open end dry before sealing; a film of fat or marinade on the seal area is the usual reason a seal fails. Lay bags flat in the freezer so they stack and thaw evenly. When it is time to eat, our guide on how to reheat Mexican leftovers covers soups, stews and braised meats.

What food-safety specialists say about vacuum-packed food

Removing air does not make food shelf stable. The University of Connecticut’s extension food-safety program says perishable foods in a vacuum package must be refrigerated between 34 and 38°F or frozen at 0°F, and cannot be kept safely at room temperature. It warns that botulism is most likely with low-acid, moist foods packed without air, such as canned chili or mushroom soup, and that the bacteria may give no sign they are growing. It also says vacuum sealers are not a substitute for heat processing when canning at home.

For thawing, the same source recommends opening the package to let some air in when you take it out of the freezer, and thawing in the refrigerator. Read the full guidance from UConn Extension before you start vacuum packing soups and stews.

How we picked these eight sealers

We started from the problem: wet and moist food that edge sealers struggle with. We then looked for edge sealers from identifiable makers sold on Amazon in the United States whose listings state a moist or liquid mode, a moisture sensor, a pulse control or a drip tray, and checked each one’s stock with Amazon’s product data before writing. We left out every sealer in our main vacuum sealer guide, including FoodSaver’s liquid-capable Elite model and the Nesco VS-12, so this page adds new options; that guide is the place to compare them.

Modes, trays, seals, bag widths and warranties come from each Amazon listing, recorded in our research notes, and we write “not stated” where a listing is silent. We did not use these sealers ourselves. Food-storage advice comes from UConn Extension. We checked the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall listings for FoodSaver, Nesco, Gasbye, Beelicious, Potane, Anova, MEGAWISE and NutriChef and found no vacuum sealer recall for any of them.

Wet-food sealing questions, answered

What is the best vacuum sealer for wet foods?

For a home kitchen, an edge sealer with a moist mode and a drip tray, such as the FoodSaver V4400, or one with a dedicated liquid mode and pulse, such as the Nesco VS-22LB. For thin liquids sealed often, a chamber sealer is the better tool.

Can you vacuum seal soup with a regular sealer?

Not as a liquid. Freeze it in a bag or container until solid, then seal it. A chamber sealer can seal liquid soup directly.

What does the moist setting do?

Makers do not all explain it, but moist settings are meant to help a damp bag seal, for example by adjusting the vacuum or the seal time. Check each maker’s manual for its own description.

How do I keep marinade out of the machine?

Chill the meat, keep the marinade to what clings to it, leave space at the top of the bag, and use pulse to stop before liquid reaches the seal. A drip tray catches what gets past. Some makers, such as Gasbye, sell containers for marinating that keep liquid away from the pump.

Is vacuum-sealed food safe at room temperature?

No. UConn Extension says perishable vacuum-packed food must be refrigerated or frozen, and should be thawed in the refrigerator.

Our final pick for marinades, soups and saucy leftovers

Choose the FoodSaver V4400 if you want a sealer that senses moisture and catches drips in a dishwasher-safe tray. Pick the Nesco VS-22LB for its Liquid mode, the Gasbye for a double seal and replaceable parts, the Beelicious for labeled freezer bags, the Potane for juicy meat, the Anova for a small kitchen, the MEGAWISE for occasional use and the NutriChef for a stainless machine with a liquid tray.
