Glass or Infuser? How to Pick the Best Sangria Pitcher

The best sangria pitcher for your table: large glass pitchers, fruit infuser jugs and acrylic for the patio, with size and care stated.

A glass pitcher of sangria with citrus beside a sugar-rimmed glass on a bar
A pitcher of sangria beside a sugar-rimmed glass.

Sangria asks for three things from a pitcher: room for wine and fruit, a wide enough mouth to get that fruit in, and a pour that doesn’t dump half of it into the first glass. A regular water pitcher can do the job, but size and opening matter more here than they do for iced tea.

Our glass pitcher guide covers pitchers for the fridge and everyday table. This page narrows that to sangria, with larger glass pitchers, a few acrylic jugs for outdoors and pitchers with a fruit infuser.

Quick verdict: which sangria pitcher to buy

Buy the Libbey Cantina. It holds 90 ounces, is clear enough to show the fruit, and Libbey states that it is lead-free and hand-blown. For easy cleanup at a smaller size, choose the Mikasa Napoli, which can go in the dishwasher. If you dislike fruit in the glass, the Prodyne infusion pitcher holds the fruit in a rod.

Our picks for the best sangria pitcher

1. Libbey Cantina Glass Pitcher, 90 oz – Big, Clear and Lead-Free

Best overallLibbey Cantina Clear Glass Pitcher

Sangria looks best in clear glass, and it needs room. The Libbey Cantina holds 90 ounces, which leaves enough space for a bottle or two of wine, the fruit, and a splash of soda. Libbey calls it a “sangria” pitcher in its gift description, and it is one of the few pitchers on this page that states it is hand-blown and lead-free.

The clear elliptical body shows off the fruit, and the listing mentions a spout. At about 10.75 inches tall, measure your refrigerator shelf before you buy, since sangria often rests in the cold for a few hours before serving.

The tradeoffs are spelled out. Libbey says hand wash only and warns that the pitcher is not safe for hot liquids. That is fine for sangria, but it rules out using it for a warm mulled drink.

Why we like it

  • Libbey states that it is lead-free and hand-blown.
  • The 90 ounce capacity leaves room for fruit and ice.
  • Clear glass shows the fruit.

2. Mikasa Napoli Glass Pitcher, 70 oz – Goes in the Dishwasher

Best dishwasher-safeMikasa Napoli 70oz Large Glass Water Pitcher

After a long evening, a pitcher you can put in the dishwasher is worth a lot. Mikasa states that the Napoli is “fully dishwasher safe” and lists sangria among the drinks it serves. At 70 ounces, it is a good fit for one bottle of wine plus fruit and a little fizz.

The listing mentions a pour spout and describes a refined shape that works for formal or everyday tables. It gives two capacity numbers, though: 70 ounces in the title and features and 80 ounces in a size field. We go with the maker’s 70, and suggest you plan on that.

There is no lid and no fruit strainer stated, so your ladle or spoon may be needed to help the fruit out of the pitcher and into the glass.

Why we like it

  • Dishwasher safe, according to the listing.
  • Names sangria as a use.
  • A one-bottle size that fits smaller fridges.

Key specifications

Model 5136551
Material Glass
Capacity 70 oz
Count 1 pitcher
Dimensions About 9 in high, 6 in across
Dishwasher safe Yes

Why we recommend it

It suits a home that makes sangria often in smaller batches and wants cleanup to be easy.

Skip it if you usually make a double batch; it won’t hold two bottles with fruit.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Dishwasher safe
  • Smaller footprint
  • Pour spout

Cons

  • Conflicting capacity figures
  • No strainer stated
  • Too small for big batches

3. Prodyne Fruit Infusion Pitcher, 112 oz – Fruit Rod in a Big Acrylic Jug

Best infuserProdyne Fruit Infusion Pitcher

This is the pitcher to look at if you dislike fruit tumbling into every glass. Prodyne’s large fruit infusion rod screws into the lid, and the fruit stays inside it while the drink pours around it. The listing says it infuses “water, tea, spirits and more” and that you can keep refilling the pitcher without replacing the fruit.

At 3.5 quarts it is very large, and acrylic means you are not carrying heavy glass out to the patio. The tradeoff is that fruit in a narrow rod has less contact with the wine than loose fruit, and you lose the look of slices floating in the pitcher. If you want fruit in the glass, spoon a few fresh pieces in by hand.

The current lead offer comes from a third-party seller, so check the shipping details. Prodyne doesn’t state dishwasher use on the listing.

Why we like it

  • The rod screws into the lid, per Prodyne.
  • 112 ounces is the largest capacity here.
  • Acrylic is lighter and better for a patio than glass.

Key specifications

Model FI-20-A
Material Clear acrylic with infusion rod
Capacity 112 oz
Count 1 pitcher
Dimensions About 9 x 8 x 8.5 in
Dishwasher safe Not stated
Made in Not stated
Care Not stated; we would hand wash

Why we recommend it

It suits an outdoor host or anyone who wants clean pours without fruit in the glass.

Skip it if the look of loose fruit is part of the fun for you.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Very large capacity
  • Fruit stays in the rod
  • Acrylic for outdoor use

Cons

  • Third-party seller
  • Fruit stays out of sight
  • Care not stated

4. JoyJolt Glass Pitcher With Two Lids, 68 oz – Slim, Lidded and Lead-Free

Best for the fridge68oz Glass Pitcher with Lid (2 Lids)

Sangria usually needs time in the fridge, and that is where this slim rectangular pitcher helps. JoyJolt lists a footprint of about 5 by 4 inches, two lids and a 2.6 inch opening “for ice and fruit.” That opening is narrower than the others here, so cut the fruit small.

The lid stops the pitcher from picking up fridge smells, and JoyJolt says the glass is lead-free, the lids are BPA-free and everything can go in the dishwasher. It lists a 12 month guarantee. A smaller 60 ounce model appears on our glass pitcher guide; this is a different size with the same idea.

At 68 ounces it fits one bottle of wine plus fruit, with little room to spare.

Why we like it

  • Two lids for storage.
  • Lead-free glass and dishwasher-safe parts, per JoyJolt.
  • Slim shape for the fridge door or a narrow shelf.

Key specifications

Model JG10298
Material Lead-free soda-lime glass, polypropylene lids
Capacity 68 oz
Count 1 pitcher, 2 lids
Dimensions About 9.75 in high, 5 x 4 in
Dishwasher safe Yes
Made in Not stated
Care Dishwasher safe

Why we recommend it

It suits someone who makes sangria the night before and needs it to fit in a crowded refrigerator.

Skip it if you like big slices of fruit, which won’t fit through the 2.6 inch opening easily.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Lidded storage
  • Dishwasher safe
  • 12 month guarantee

Cons

  • Narrow opening
  • One bottle size
  • Amazon-focused brand

5. Mikasa Color Swirl Blue Glass Pitcher, 2.25 Quart – A Table Piece That Washes Easily

Best lookingMikasa Color Swirl Blue Glass Jug Pitcher

Not every sangria pitcher needs to be clear. Mikasa’s Color Swirl is handcrafted glass with blue shades, bubble accents and metallic gold flecks, and the listing names sangria and margaritas among its uses. With 2.25 quarts, or 72 ounces, it holds a one-bottle batch.

Blue glass changes how red wine looks, and it will hide much of the fruit. A pale white sangria may show better. The listing says it’s dishwasher safe and comes in a gift box, so it makes a good present for someone who already owns a plain pitcher.

This is mostly a looks purchase. If you want to see what you are pouring, choose clear.

Why we like it

  • The listing names sangria as a use.
  • Dishwasher safe, per Mikasa.
  • Handcrafted look, in a gift box.

Key specifications

6. Outset Fruit Infuser Pitcher, 93 oz – A Removable Rod in BPA-Free Acrylic

Best smaller infuserOutset Fruit Infuser Water Pitcher

Outset, a Fox Run brand, offers a similar idea to the Prodyne at a smaller size. The 93 ounce acrylic pitcher has a removable rod with open slots, and the rod screws into the lid. The listing focuses on water, iced tea and lemonade and does not name sangria, so wine is our suggested use and not the maker’s.

Acrylic suits a pool or backyard where glass is a poor idea. Outset says hand wash only, and that is worth following, because the listing presents hand washing as the way to keep it clear and crack free.

Take the rod out if you would rather have loose fruit. Without the rod, it is simply a large unbreakable jug.

Why we like it

  • Removable rod screws into the lid.
  • Shatter concerns are lower with acrylic than glass.
  • Sold by Amazon when we checked.

Key specifications

Model Not stated
Material BPA-free acrylic with removable infusion rod
Capacity 93 oz

Dimensions About 6 x 7.5 x 10.25 in

Why we recommend it

It suits poolside hosts who want the infuser idea in a slightly smaller jug.

Skip it if you want a pitcher its maker sells for sangria by name.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Removable rod
  • Good size for outdoors
  • Lid included

Cons

  • Hand wash only
  • Maker doesn’t name sangria
  • Plastic look on a dressed table

7. Amazing Abby Stately Acrylic Pitcher, 80 oz – A Lidded Jug for the Patio

Best acrylicAmazing Abby - Stately - Acrylic Pitcher (80 oz)

For a plain unbreakable jug, Amazing Abby’s Stately is the simple choice. The title lists sangria as a use, and the maker describes food-grade acrylic that is BPA-free, lead-free and shatter-proof, with a lid and a sturdy handle. It says the pitcher fits easily in a refrigerator and suits indoor and outdoor use.

At 80 ounces, it holds a bottle or so with fruit. There is no infuser rod, so loose fruit goes in and out freely, and it is an easy spoon-out at the table. This is an Amazon-focused brand and our view rests on the listing, not a review.

Acrylic can scratch and may hold on to smells over time, so don’t use abrasive pads on it. The listing doesn’t state whether it can go in the dishwasher.

Why we like it

  • The listing names sangria as a use.
  • Shatter-proof acrylic, per the maker.
  • Lid included.

How to choose a pitcher for sangria

Size it to your bottles

A standard wine bottle holds 750 ml, about 25 ounces. Add fruit, a little liqueur or juice, and some soda, and one bottle needs about 60 to 70 ounces of pitcher. Two bottles need about 90 ounces or more. Buy for the size you actually make.

Check the opening

You will be pushing orange wedges and apple slices through the top, then spooning them out again. JoyJolt is one of the few to state its opening, at 2.6 inches. For others, look at the photos and the shape. If you can’t fit a hand or a long spoon in, plan a bottle brush for cleanup.

Choose glass or acrylic

Glass shows the color, feels right at a table and won’t hold smells as readily. Acrylic is the right choice around a pool or with children near, since it won’t shatter the way glass can. Plain glass has no glaze, so the lead question that applies to glazed ceramics and crystal does not come up in the same way. Libbey and JoyJolt state lead-free anyway.

Decide on the fruit

Loose fruit looks good and has full contact with the wine. An infuser rod makes for a neater pour and easy cleanup but keeps the fruit out of sight. A long spoon solves the loose-fruit pour in most cases.

Think about the fridge

Many recipes rest the sangria cold for a few hours. Measure your shelf height, and consider a lid if the pitcher will stay in with strong smelling foods. Don’t add soda or ice until you’re ready to serve, so neither one goes flat or waters the batch down.

Read the care line

Hand-blown and patterned pitchers usually ask for hand washing. Rinse the pitcher soon after the party so wine and fruit don’t dry on the glass.

How we picked these seven pitchers

We did not test these pitchers. We read each Amazon listing through Amazon’s product data and kept only pitchers that were in stock with a new lead offer. We looked for pitchers whose makers name sangria or that have a fruit infuser, with enough capacity for wine and fruit. Where the maker doesn’t mention sangria, as with the Outset, we say the idea is ours.

We looked for independent reviews and found mainly affiliate roundups whose testing claims we could not verify, so we don’t rely on them. We left out one etched pitcher from a range that its maker also sells as crystal, because we could not confirm its material or a lead-free statement for that item. We avoided the pitchers already on our other glass pitcher pages, and we also checked the CPSC recall database by brand. JoyJolt has a recall on a coffee mug line and Lifetime Brands, which makes Mikasa, has recalls on other products, but we found none naming these pitchers.

Sangria pitcher questions, answered

What size pitcher do I need for sangria?

About 70 ounces for one bottle of wine with fruit, and 90 ounces or more for two.

Is a pitcher with a fruit infuser good for sangria?

It gives a clean pour, and the fruit doesn’t end up in the glass. Many people like to eat the fruit, though, and loose fruit shows better. If you want both, use the rod and add fresh pieces to each glass.

Can sangria sit in a glass pitcher overnight?

Glass is fine for it, and many recipes rest the drink in the refrigerator for a few hours or overnight. Cover it, and add any soda just before serving.

Do I need a lid?

It helps in the refrigerator. JoyJolt, Prodyne, Outset and Amazing Abby include one, according to their listings. For open pitchers, plastic wrap works.

Can I use a sangria pitcher for margaritas?

Yes. Mikasa names margaritas on two of its listings here. Check our margarita glass guide for the glasses to go with it.

Our final pick for a pitcher of sangria

The Libbey Cantina is the one we would buy for most tables, with the Mikasa Napoli as the easy-care alternative. Please serve alcohol responsibly and only to adults of legal drinking age. For a non-alcoholic pitcher, see our iced tea pitcher guide. For a tequila option, read about frozen and on-the-rocks margaritas.
