Before You Drill: Choosing the Best Wall Mounted Spice Rack

The best wall mounted spice rack fits your jars and your wall. Eight compared on depth, jar fit, hardware and adhesive or screw mounting.

A wall shelf of jars above a kitchen sink

A wall rack moves your spices from the back of a dark cabinet to a place you can see them, within reach of the stove. It sounds simple, but you can get it wrong. A rack that is too shallow won’t hold your jars, one with the wrong hardware won’t stay on your wall, and one placed right above the burners exposes your spices to heat and steam.

We looked for racks that are actually made to hang, and read each listing for shelf depth, jar fit and what comes in the box. Here are eight, from ClosetMaid, Spectrum, Organize It All, MyGift, X-cosrack, Bunoxea and Kamenstein, with “Not stated” wherever a listing doesn’t say.

Quick verdict: which wall rack to buy

For most kitchens, the best wall mounted spice rack is the ClosetMaid 3-Tier Wall Rack: five-inch shelves take cans and tall bottles as well as jars, and the hardware is included for drywall or solid surfaces. For a rack that looks good on open wall, choose the Spectrum Scroll. Renters who can’t drill should look at the Bunoxea 4 Pack, with a light load.

Our picks for the best wall mounted spice rack

1. ClosetMaid 3-Tier Wall Rack, 18 Inch – Room for Cans as Well as Jars

Best overallClosetMaid 3-Tier Hanging Wall Mounted Metal Rack for Spices

ClosetMaid makes wire storage for a living, and that is the strongest point in this rack’s favor. It is a plain 3-tier wire rack, about 18.5 inches high, 18.75 wide and 5 deep, in epoxy-coated steel. Those five inches of depth are the difference from most spice racks on this page, because a 5-inch shelf takes tall bottles and cans along with spice jars.

It goes either directly on a wall or inside a cabinet door. Most important for a renter or a first-time installer, ClosetMaid says the hardware is included for drywall as well as solid surfaces like cabinet doors, wood or particle board. Several racks here don’t make that clear.

The shelves are fixed, so measure your tallest bottle against the gap in the photos. The warranty covers missing or damaged parts for 30 days, which isn’t long. We found no independent review of this rack that we could read, so this pick rests on ClosetMaid’s stated details and its long record in home storage.

Why we like it

  • Five-inch-deep shelves take cans and tall bottles

2. Spectrum Scroll 3-Tier Wall Mount Spice Rack – A Single-Row Rack With Some Style

Best decorativeSpectrum Scroll 3 Tier Wall Mount Spice Rack for Kitchen

If the rack will be on show, the Scroll is the one that was designed with that in mind. It is black steel with decorative curls, 15.25 inches wide, 12.5 tall and only 2.75 deep. That shallow depth keeps jars in a single row, so every label stays in view and nothing hides at the back.

Spectrum says the built-in brackets and open wire shelves keep things secure and visible. The hardware is described for wood surfaces, with pre-drilled hole compatibility. If you are mounting on drywall, plan to pick up the right anchors for your wall, since the listing doesn’t mention them.

Spectrum gives a one-year warranty. That shallow depth is the trade-off, so large jars won’t fit. Measure the wider jars you already own against that 2.75 inches, and remember the depth given is for the rack, so it may be a little less inside.

Why we like it

  • A shallow single row keeps every label visible
  • Decorative scroll details
  • One-year warranty
  • Built-in mounting brackets

Key specifications

Model 43710
Material Black steel
Tiers or racks 3 tiers
Size 15.25 W x 12.5 H x 2.75 D in
Jar fit Small jars and bottles
Mounting Wall
Hardware Included, for wood surfaces
Warranty 1 year

Why we recommend it

It suits an open kitchen wall where the rack is part of the look and the jars are standard small ones.

Skip it if your jars are wide or tall, since the 2.75-inch depth rules out anything large.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Looks intentional on a wall
  • Single-row visibility
  • Stated warranty

Cons

  • Shallow
  • Hardware described for wood surfaces
  • Scrollwork takes dusting

3. Spectrum Vintage Living 3-Tier Wall Rack, Industrial Gray – Open Baskets in a Compact Frame

Best small rackSpectrum Vintage Living Spice Rack Wall Mount 3 Tier

Our second Spectrum is a different design for a different wall. It’s 13 inches high and 11.75 wide, with three open basket shelves in an industrial gray steel finish. A rack this size fits into the gap beside a window or at the end of a cabinet run, spots where a wider rack won’t go.

The listing says the hardware suits any wall surface, and it also mentions a cabinet door option. It says the rack won’t wobble or rattle, which is the kind of promise we can’t confirm, so we’d treat it as the maker’s own. It doesn’t give a depth or a warranty, so check the photos against your jars.

We have this and the Scroll on one page because one is shallow and decorative and the other is smaller and open-sided. If you want only one from Spectrum, go by the size of your wall space.

Why we like it

  • Small enough for a narrow gap
  • Open baskets show labels
  • Hardware included
  • Also usable on a cabinet door, per the listing

Key specifications

Model A85076

Why we recommend it

It suits a small kitchen or apartment with a narrow wall space and a modest spice collection.

Skip it if you need to know the shelf depth before buying, as this listing doesn’t state it.

4. Organize It All 3-Tier Wall Mounted Spice Rack, Chrome – A Tall, Narrow Column of Jars

Best narrow rackOrganize It All Wall Mounted Spice Rack

Organize It All’s rack is the narrow, tall option in the set: chrome-finished steel wire, 11 inches wide and about 3.25 deep, with a height the listing gives as a little over 18 inches. It is a three-tier design, so that height means a generous gap between shelves, and taller jars have room.

The listing says it mounts inside cabinets or on a flat wall surface, and that hardware is included. That’s about all it says, and this is a simple rack. We list what isn’t stated. Chrome wire is easy to wipe down but it can show splashes, which is worth thinking about if the wall is near the stove.

We found no independent review of this rack that we could read, so it rests on its short listing. It earns its place by being a low-fuss rack from a named storage brand, sold by Amazon at the time of writing.

Why we like it

  • A narrow 11-inch width
  • Taller gaps between tiers
  • Chrome steel wire
  • Hardware included

Key specifications

Model 1812W
Material Chrome-finished steel wire
Tiers or racks 3 tiers
Size 11 W x 3.25 D x 18.16 H in
Jar fit Not stated
Mounting Wall or inside a cabinet
Hardware Included
Warranty Not stated

Why we recommend it

It suits a narrow wall or the inside of a tall cabinet where width is the main limit.

Skip it if you want a lot of capacity, since three short shelves hold fewer jars than a wider rack.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Fits narrow spots
  • Simple install
  • Easy to wipe

Cons

  • Short listing
  • Modest capacity
  • Warranty not stated

5. MyGift 12-Inch Black Wire Wall Spice Racks, Set of 2 – Two Slim Shelves to Place Yourself

Best flexible layoutMyGift 12 Inch Black Wire Wall Spice Rack Set of 2 Seasoning Shelf

Instead of a single frame, MyGift sends two separate wire shelves, each about 12.2 inches wide and 3.4 high. They stick out only about 3 inches from the wall, per the listing. That means you can hang them one above the other, side by side, or at different heights to work around a switch plate or a window.

The look is satin black with a chicken-wire side panel, a farmhouse style you will either like or not. The wire sides let you see what is on the shelf. The listing describes steel construction, but it doesn’t state whether hardware is included, so be ready to buy your own screws and anchors.

MyGift is a storage and decor seller and not a specialist rack maker, and we found no independent review of this set that we could read. Treat this as a simple way to get flexible placement and not as a heavy-duty option.

Why we like it

  • Two separate shelves you can arrange
  • Protrudes only about 3 inches
  • Wire sides show the jars
  • Satin black farmhouse look

6. X-cosrack 5-Tier Wall Mount Spice Rack – The Most Jars on One Wall

Most capacityX-cosrack Wall Mount Spice Rack Organizer 5 Tier Height-Adjustable Hanging Spice Shelf Storage for Kitchen Pantry Cabinet

If your collection has outgrown three shelves, this is the big one. X-cosrack is an Amazon-first brand, so we treat its claims with care, but the numbers are specific: five height-adjustable baskets, 15.6 inches wide, 32.3 tall, with 4.6 inches of inner depth. The maker claims 64 six-ounce or 72 four-ounce jars.

Height-adjustable baskets are the real feature. Spice jars and tall bottles aren’t the same height, and fixed shelves waste space. The rack can also be split into two shorter racks, which helps if the wall won’t take one long column. Five hooks come with it for hanging tools.

A rack this big gets heavy when it’s full of jars, so mount it with care. The listing doesn’t state a weight limit or say what hardware is included for which wall, so check that before you drill. Find a stud where you can, or use anchors rated for the load.

Why we like it

  • Five baskets that adjust in height
  • Maker claims room for 64 to 72 jars
  • Splits into two racks
  • Five hooks included

Key specifications

Model CCC01
Material Steel plate
Tiers or racks 5 adjustable tiers
Size 15.6 W x 4.6 D x 32.3 H in

Why we recommend it

It suits a serious home cook with a large collection who has a clear stretch of tall wall.

Skip it if you have a small collection, because this is a lot of rack to look at half empty.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Large capacity
  • Adjustable tiers
  • Can be split in two

Cons

  • Amazon-first brand
  • Weight limit not stated
  • Big and very visible

7. Bunoxea Wall Mounted Spice Racks, 4 Pack – Screw It Up or Stick It On

Best for rentersBunoxea Spice Rack Wall Mounted 4 Pack

Bunoxea is another Amazon-first brand, and its reason for being here is mounting choice. Each of the four racks can go up with adhesive strips or with the included screws. If you rent, or if you don’t want holes in a tile backsplash, that’s the appeal. Each rack is 11.41 inches long and 2.75 deep, and fits standard jars up to 2 inches across.

The listing says each rack holds up to 20 pounds. That figure comes from the seller with nothing behind it, and it would be a lot to ask of an adhesive strip. The same listing warns to avoid adhesive on uneven surfaces and screws on thin or hollow ones. We’d keep the load modest and use screws for anything heavy, or anything above a stove or a person’s head.

Raised rails keep jars from sliding off, and four removable hooks hang shears or spoons. The seller says it works on RV interiors too. There’s no independent review we could read, so go by the listing and use some common sense on weight.

Why we like it

  • Adhesive or screw mounting
  • Four separate racks to arrange
  • Raised rails
  • Four sliding hooks

Key specifications

Model Not stated
Material Powder-coated metal
Tiers or racks 4 racks
Size 2.75 x 2.75 x 11.41 in, each
Jar fit Jars up to 2 in across
Mounting Adhesive or screws

Why we recommend it

It suits renters and anyone who wants to avoid drilling into tile, and who will keep the load light.

Skip it if your jars are wider than 2 inches, or you plan to trust adhesive with a heavy load.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • No-drill option
  • Four racks
  • Hooks included

Cons

  • Amazon-first brand
  • Load figure is the seller’s claim
  • Shallow shelves

8. Kamenstein Criss Cross 18-Jar Bamboo Rack with Spices – A Filled Rack That Can Hang

Best with spices includedKamenstein Criss Cross 18 Jar Bamboo Spice Rack with Spices Included - Countertop

Kamenstein’s rack is the one to buy if you are starting from an empty kitchen. It comes with 18 filled and labeled jars, and bamboo construction with metal loops on the back that let it hang on a wall. It can also stand on a counter or lie in a drawer, so this is not only a wall rack. We include it because the listing names the wall as a stated use.

The spices listed are basil, bay leaves, celery salt, cilantro, coriander, crushed mint, dill weed, fennel seed, herbes de Provence, Italian seasoning, marjoram, oregano, parsley, pizza seasoning, rosemary, sea salt, seasoning salt and thyme, and the listing warns that the mix may vary. It doesn’t give allergen information, so read the labels yourself if that matters in your home. For a Mexican kitchen, you’d want to add cumin, chiles and Mexican oregano.

Kamenstein offers free refills for up to five years if you register the rack within 90 days of buying, with the details in the box. Read the terms first. The listing doesn’t state the rack’s size or whether hanging hardware is included, so plan on supplying your own.

Why we like it

  • 18 filled and labeled jars
  • Hangs from metal loops, per the listing
  • Refill program if registered within 90 days
  • Removable sifter discs

How to choose a hanging spice rack

Measure your jars, then read the depth

This is the first thing to check. Depths on this page run from 2.75 inches on the Spectrum Scroll to 5 on the ClosetMaid. A shallow rack keeps everything in one visible row, but it won’t take a wide jar. If you are also buying jars, our spice jar guide can help you match the two.

Know your wall before you order

Drywall, tile, plaster and wood all need different fixings. ClosetMaid says its hardware suits drywall and solid surfaces. Spectrum’s Scroll describes hardware for wood. Others don’t say. Find a stud if you can, and if you can’t, use anchors rated for the load. A full glass jar is heavier than it looks.

Be careful with adhesive

Peel-and-stick mounting is convenient, and it’s the only option in many rentals. But adhesive depends on a clean, flat, smooth surface, and Bunoxea’s own listing warns against uneven surfaces. Keep a stuck-on rack light and away from stove heat.

Choose the spot with heat in mind

The wall right above the stove is the most convenient place and also the worst for the spices. Heat and steam can dull them faster, and grease settles on jars. A spot to one side of the cooktop, close enough to reach, is a better bet.

Fixed or adjustable tiers

Fixed tiers are simpler and often sturdier. Adjustable ones, like those on the X-cosrack, are better if you own a mix of small jars and tall bottles. Think about what you actually keep on hand. A Mexican pantry is often a mix of small jars of cumin and oregano and big bags of dried chiles, and bags need another home.

How we narrowed down these eight wall racks

We started from Amazon listings and counted only racks that were in stock, sold new, and that the listing itself says mount on a wall. We left out door-only racks, like the Rev-A-Shelf cabinet-door model, and over-the-door organizers. Those are covered in our cabinet spice rack guide, and our main spice rack guide compares wall, counter and drawer styles.

We searched for independent reviews of wall spice racks and these brands, and found only store listings and affiliate lists that we didn’t trust. So these picks rest on the maker and listing details, and we say that plainly. Two picks, X-cosrack and Bunoxea, are Amazon-first brands, and we treat their claims as the seller’s own. We have not used these racks and we state no prices.

We looked up each brand in CPSC’s recall database. We found no matches for ClosetMaid, Organize It All, MyGift, X-cosrack, Bunoxea or Kamenstein. A search on the word Spectrum returned recalls from unrelated companies with that name and nothing about these racks.

Wall spice rack questions, answered

Where should a wall spice rack go?

Close to where you cook, but not directly above the burners. A spot to one side of the stove keeps jars within reach and away from the worst of the heat and steam.

Can a hanging spice rack go on drywall?

Yes, with suitable fixings. ClosetMaid says its hardware covers drywall. Others are vague or describe wood surfaces, so have your own anchors ready, and use a stud if you can.

How much weight can a wall spice rack hold?

Most listings here don’t say. Bunoxea’s seller says 20 pounds per rack, and that’s a claim we can’t check. The real limit is often the wall fixing, not the rack, so keep loads sensible.

Do spice jars come with these racks?

Only the Kamenstein comes with jars, filled. The other racks here are sold empty, so measure the jars you plan to use.

Is a wall rack better than a cabinet rack?

It depends on the kitchen. A wall rack gets everything into view and frees up cabinets, but jars sit in the open, exposed to light and dust. Our countertop spice rack guide covers another option if you can’t or won’t drill.

A cream shelf unit holding mugs, small jars and a yellow cup

Our final pick for the wall

For most kitchens, the ClosetMaid 3-Tier is the practical choice, with the Spectrum Scroll as the better-looking one for small jars. Once the rack is up, our Mexican spices guide is a good place to think about what goes on it. And when you’d rather let someone else do the seasoning, Julia’s is on Highway 6 in Houston: call to order.
