Grill sets are sold on piece counts, and that is the wrong thing to count. The 30-piece box looks generous until you see that a good part of it is corn holders and skewers. What you will reach for at the grill, every time, is a spatula you trust under a burger, tongs that hold a chicken thigh, and something to brush on a marinade.
This guide looks at eight sets from grill makers, kitchen brands and two Amazon-first labels, and judges them on the tools themselves. We also say which sets have an independent review behind them, which don’t, and why none of them comes with a wire-bristle brush.

Quick verdict: which grill tool set to buy
For most backyards, the best bbq tool set is the Alpha Grillers 4-Piece Set: TechGearLab made it an Editors’ Choice, and its steel was the only set in that review thick enough not to flex. If you prefer wood handles, buy the Cuisinart 4-Piece Ash Wood Set. If you only grill a few times a year, the two-piece OXO Turner and Tongs Set is all you need.
Think about where the set will live, too. A carry case helps at a tailgate, but a hook beside the grill is often enough at home.

Our picks for the best bbq tool set
Every pick here is a set sold as one listing, not a single tool. For one tool at a time, see our best grill tongs and best grill spatula guides, or our best grill tools guide, which covers another group of sets and single tools.
1. Alpha Grillers 4-Piece Grill Tools Set – Thick Steel That Holds Its Shape

This is the set to buy if you want one box and no second thoughts. TechGearLab made it an Editors’ Choice and calls it its go-to grill set, and says it was the only set in its review whose stainless steel was thick enough not to flex or bend. That counts for more than the piece count on the box, because a thin spatula under a full rack of fajita steak is where cheap sets fail.
The set has four tools: a spatula with a serrated edge and a bottle opener, a fork, lockable tongs with scalloped grips, and an 18-inch silicone basting brush. The listing says they suit gas, charcoal, electric and smoker grills, and that they are dishwasher safe.
The honest weak spot is the tongs. TechGearLab found them shorter than the other tools, at 15 inches against 18, and says the lock was loose. We can’t tell whether this listing’s current tongs have changed since that review, so assume the same and keep a longer pair if you cook over a hot bed of coals. Alpha Grillers is an Amazon-first brand, which is one of only two on this list.
Why we like it
- TechGearLab Editors’ Choice
- Steel thick enough not to flex, per that review
- Four tools, including a silicone basting brush
- Dishwasher safe, per the listing
Key specifications
| Model | BST-004 |
|---|---|
| Pieces | 4 |
| Tool material | Stainless steel |
| Handles | Stainless with ergonomic grips |
| Brush in the set | Silicone basting brush, 18 in |
| Storage | Not stated |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits most home cooks who grill often and want a sturdy spatula and fork more than a case full of extras. It has the strongest independent backing of any set here.
Skip it if tongs are the tool you use most. Add a longer pair from our tongs guide, or choose a set with a better lock.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Sturdy, per an independent review
- Covers the four basics
- Dishwasher safe
- Spatula doubles as a bottle opener
Cons
- Tongs shorter than the other tools, per TechGearLab
- Tong lock was loose in that review
- No storage case
2. Cuisinart 4-Piece Ash Wood Grill Tool Set – Warm Wood Handles and a Silicone Brush

Popular Science named this its best set with wood handles, and found them attractive and comfortable. There are four tools: a spatula with a serrated edge for quick cuts on the grate, locking tongs, a fork and a basting brush with a removable silicone head that comes off for cleaning.
The review has two small complaints. The tools hang from string loops rather than metal ones, and the set is not the longest on its list. If you cook over a very hot fire, check the reach, because the listing gives no lengths.
Cuisinart has been in the news for grill tools, so here is the plain position. In 2026, Conair recalled Cuisinart metal wire bristle grill brushes, a recall that CPSC says covers all Cuisinart wire bristle grill brushes. This set has a silicone basting brush, not a wire cleaning brush, and the CPSC notice does not name it. Still, if you already own an older Cuisinart wire brush, check the notice.
Why we like it
- Popular Science’s best wood-handle set
- Serrated spatula edge for quick cuts
- Locking tongs
- Removable silicone brush head
Key specifications
| Model | CGS-1100 |
|---|---|
| Pieces | 4 |
| Tool material | Not stated |
| Handles | Ash wood |
| Brush in the set | Silicone basting brush, removable head |
| Storage | Hanging loops |
| Dishwasher safe | Not stated |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits a cook who prefers the feel of wood and wants a named review behind the purchase. It also looks good on a side shelf.
Skip it if you want dishwasher-friendly tools, because the listing does not say they are. Choose the Amazon Basics or Alpha Grillers instead.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Comfortable wood handles, per Popular Science
- Four tools
- Removable brush head
- Locking tongs
Cons
- String hanging loops
- Not the longest tools, per that review
- No care details on the listing
3. OXO Outdoor Grilling Turner and Tongs Set – Two Tools for Occasional Grillers

A tool set does not need four pieces. If you grill a few times a season, a good turner and a good pair of tongs do almost everything. Popular Science named OXO’s tongs and turner set its budget pick, saying it fits the bill nicely if you only grill occasionally and want something very simple, and that it is very sturdy and dishwasher safe.
The turner has a wide, beveled head that slides under food, and a double-bend neck for leverage. Both tools have non-slip grips and a hanging ring. The review’s name for the set differs a little from this listing. We take them to be the same set, but we can’t be certain.
The tradeoff is a tong lock that Popular Science calls finicky. There’s also no fork and no brush. Our grill tools guide covers OXO’s three-piece set, which adds a tool rest. We list this smaller set here for a clear reason: it is the version Popular Science recommends for occasional cooks.
Why we like it
- Popular Science’s budget pick
- Beveled turner slides under food
- Double-bend neck for leverage
- Hanging ring, per the listing
Key specifications
| Model | 9108000 |
|---|---|
| Pieces | 2 |
| Tool material | Stainless steel turner; tongs not stated |
| Handles | Non-slip grips |
| Brush in the set | None |
| Storage | Hanging ring |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes, per Popular Science |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits an apartment grill, a beach trip, or anyone who cooks burgers and chicken a few times a year. Fewer tools means fewer things to store.
Skip it if you baste or glaze. There is no brush in the box.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Very sturdy, per Popular Science
- Simple two-piece set
- Good turner shape
- Dishwasher safe, per that review
Cons
- Tong lock can be finicky
- No fork or brush
- No case

4. Wüsthof 4-Piece BBQ Chef’s Tools Set – Four Tools From a Solingen Knife Maker

Wüsthof is best known for knives, and this set is the same company’s take on the grill. It has a turner, a meat fork, locking tongs, and a basting brush with two interchangeable silicone heads. Wüsthof says these tools are designed as companions for its knives.
Two heads on the brush are a small but useful thing. Use one for oil and the other for a sweet glaze or an adobo, and neither carries over the other’s flavor. The rest of the listing says more about the company than the tools: it is family owned, and it was founded in Solingen, Germany, more than 200 years ago. It gives no lengths, handle material or care details, and it does not say where this set is made.
We searched for an independent review of this set and found none, only retailer listings. So this pick rests on Wüsthof’s own description and its name in the kitchen.
Why we like it
- Locking tongs, turner and meat fork
- Two interchangeable silicone brush heads
- Long-established maker
- Silicone brush heads
Key specifications
| Model | 9069920001 |
|---|---|
| Pieces | 4 |
| Tool material | Not stated |
| Handles | Not stated |
| Brush in the set | Silicone basting brush, two heads |
| Storage | Not stated |
| Dishwasher safe | Not stated |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits a cook who already has Wüsthof knives and wants tools from the same maker, or someone looking for a gift with a known kitchen name on it.
Skip it if you want proof before you buy. The Alpha Grillers and Cuisinart sets have independent reviews, and this one does not.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Four useful tools
- Two brush heads
- Known kitchen maker
Cons
- We found no independent review
- Listing gives no lengths or care details
- Warranty not stated
5. Schmidt Brothers Bonded Ash 4-Piece Grill Set – A Wood Box and a Lifetime Warranty

This is the set to wrap. It arrives in a handcrafted wood box, which the listing says makes it ready for a gift or for display, and each tool has a charcoal-colored wood handle with a leather hanging strap. Schmidt Brothers describes the handles as sculpted with a bigger belly for a natural grip.
Inside are a spatula, a fork, a basting brush and tongs in what the listing calls high-gauge German stainless steel, and the title says the tools are full-forged. The maker backs them with a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and craftsmanship, the strongest warranty stated on this list.
Like the Wüsthof, it has no independent review that we could find, after searching for one. The listing doesn’t give lengths, and doesn’t describe the brush head. Wood handles and leather straps usually need more care than steel, and the listing gives no care details, so plan to wash these by hand.
Why we like it
- Lifetime warranty on materials and craftsmanship
- Handcrafted wood box
- Leather hanging straps
- German stainless steel, per the listing
Key specifications
| Model | SBQ4PCAS11 |
|---|---|
| Pieces | 4 |
| Tool material | Full-forged stainless steel, per the title |
| Handles | Charcoal-colored wood |
| Brush in the set | Basting brush; head type not stated |
| Storage | Wood box |
| Dishwasher safe | Not stated |
| Warranty | Lifetime, per the listing |
Why we recommend it
It suits a wedding, a housewarming, or a griller who already owns the basics. The box and warranty are what set it apart from the other four-piece sets here.
Skip it if you want tools you can throw in the dishwasher after a cookout. Nothing on the listing says these can go in.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Strong stated warranty
- Comes in a wood box
- Leather straps for hanging
Cons
- We found no independent review
- No lengths on the listing
- Care details not stated
6. Napoleon 3-Piece Travel Tool Set – Collapsing Tools in a Carry Case

Long tools are awkward in a car. Napoleon’s travel set solves that with collapsing tools that expand at the press of a button on the handle, and a carry case to keep them together. There are locking tongs, a spatula beveled on three sides, and a grill brush.
That brush matters. It has palmyra bristles, a natural plant fiber, rather than metal wire, and Napoleon says they are tough on grime but safe for your grill surface. We left wire-bristle sets out of this guide, so this one qualifies.
We searched for an independent review and found only retailer pages, so this pick rests on Napoleon’s listing and details. Each collapsing joint is also a moving part, which is the price of the smaller size.
Why we like it
- Tools collapse and expand with a button
- Carry case included
- Palmyra brush, no metal wire
- Spatula beveled on three sides
Key specifications
| Model | GATL001 |
|---|---|
| Pieces | 3, plus case |
| Tool material | Not stated |
| Handles | Black; press-button collapse |
| Brush in the set | Palmyra grill brush |
| Storage | Carry case |
| Dishwasher safe | Not stated |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits a tailgate, a campground or a portable grill on a small balcony, where full-length tools get in the way. Napoleon also builds grills.
Skip it if the set will live beside a big backyard grill. Full-length, fixed tools suit that job better.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Compact for travel
- Carry case
- Brush with no metal wire
- Locking tongs
Cons
- We found no independent review
- Moving joints in each tool
- No fork or basting brush

7. Broil King Porta-Chef Tool Set – A Whole Kit in One Container

Broil King’s Porta-Chef goes further than the Napoleon. The whole set packs into one container: a turner, locking tongs, a palmyra grill brush with a replaceable head, a silicone basting brush and an 8-inch chef’s knife. The lid turns over to work as a reversible cutting board, silicone straps lock it closed, and a guard covers the knife.
The container has a second life, too. Broil King says it can hold a marinade on the way out, or carry dirty tools home so they don’t touch anything else in the car. Choose one job per trip, because a container that has held used tools needs a wash before it holds food.
That brush head has palmyra bristles rather than metal wire. We searched for an independent review and found only retailer pages, so this pick rests on the maker’s details.
Why we like it
- Everything packs into one container
- Cutting-board lid
- Knife with a guard
- Palmyra brush with a replaceable head
Key specifications
| Model | 64001 |
|---|---|
| Pieces | 5 tools, plus container |
| Tool material | Not stated |
| Handles | Not stated |
| Brush in the set | Palmyra grill brush and silicone basting brush |
| Storage | Container with locking straps |
| Dishwasher safe | Not stated |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits anyone who cooks away from home and hates forgetting the knife. It is the only set here with a cutting surface, so a park table doesn’t need another board.
Skip it if you only grill at home. This is a travel kit, and you won’t need the container or the board.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Self-contained kit
- Includes a knife and cutting surface
- Replaceable brush head
- Container doubles for marinade
Cons
- We found no independent review
- No lengths on the listing
- Container can’t do both jobs at once
8. Amazon Basics 4-Piece Stainless BBQ Tool Set – Plain Steel and a Carry Bag

This is the plain end of the market. The “4-piece” count includes the bag, so you get three tools: a spatula, a grill fork and a pair of tongs, in a cloth storage bag that measures 14.6 by 3.4 by 2 inches.
Everything is stainless steel, including the handles, and the listing says the tools are dishwasher safe and rust resistant. There’s no rubber or wood on the grip, which keeps the tools simple to wash, but gives you less to hold on to. There’s no basting brush.
This is the second and last Amazon-first brand on the list, and it rests on the listing alone. If this is your first grill, it covers the three jobs you do most, and you can add a good pair of tongs later.
Why we like it
- Spatula, fork and tongs
- Cloth storage bag
- Stainless steel throughout
- Dishwasher safe
Key specifications
| Model | GBS04 |
|---|---|
| Pieces | 3 tools, plus bag |
| Tool material | Stainless steel |
| Handles | Stainless steel |
| Brush in the set | None |
| Storage | Cloth storage bag |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits a first grill, a spare set for a cabin, or a cook who wants to keep one set in the garage. It does the basic jobs without any extras.
Skip it if you want a real grip or a basting brush. The Alpha Grillers set has both.
Pros and cons
Pros
- All stainless, easy to wash
- Includes a storage bag
- Dishwasher safe
Cons
- The piece count includes the bag
- No basting brush
- Not covered in the reviews we read
How to choose a grill tool set
Count the tools you will use
Start with a spatula and tongs, then ask if you need a fork and a basting brush. A fork is handy for lifting a roast, though many cooks prefer tongs because they do not pierce the meat. A silicone brush matters if you glaze or use a marinade. Ignore the rest of the piece count until you have those covered. Check what counts as a piece as well, because the Amazon Basics count includes its bag, and some sets count a case.
Check thickness and reach
Flex is the fault to watch for. TechGearLab’s review singled out thick steel as the reason its top set stood out. Length matters for the same reason: longer tools keep your hand further from the fire. Tongs are the tool most often short, and many listings give no lengths at all, so a set that states them deserves some credit.

Choose a handle you can live with
Wood looks good and feels warm, but it usually asks for hand washing. Stainless goes in the dishwasher and gives you less grip. Rubber or soft grips are comfortable, though TechGearLab did note hot metal details on one set’s handle. Hold the handle in your mind with a greasy, wet hand, because that’s how you’ll use it.
Skip the wire-bristle brush
CPSC says small wire bristles from recalled Cuisinart brushes can detach, stick to the grill or food and pose an ingestion hazard, with a risk of serious internal injury. The recall, expanded in August 2026, covers more than 3.6 million brushes. That recall is about Cuisinart brushes, but the same kind of bristle is sold widely, so we simply left out sets that include a metal wire cleaning brush. The two sets here with a cleaning brush use palmyra, a plant fiber.
Decide on storage
Hanging loops suit a grill with hooks. A wood box suits a gift. A case or bag suits travel. Whichever you choose, dry the tools before you put them away, because damp tools in a closed case are how stainless picks up spots.
How we picked these eight grill tool sets
We started with tool sets in stock on Amazon, checked that each lead offer was new, and looked for makers we could identify. Then we read each listing, plus the two reviews we could read in full: TechGearLab’s grill tools review and Popular Science’s guide to grill tool sets. Three picks have a named review behind them: Alpha Grillers, the Cuisinart ash wood set and the OXO two-piece. We searched for independent reviews of the Wüsthof, Schmidt Brothers, Napoleon and Broil King sets and found only retailer listings, so those rest on maker details. The Amazon Basics set rests on its listing.
We left out Kamado Joe’s Krafted set, because its cleaning brush has a coiled wire head, and sets that list a grill brush without saying what the bristles are. We also left out the large gift boxes from little-known sellers, and griddle kits, which are a different product. We checked the CPSC recall database by brand. The only related recall we found is the Cuisinart wire brush recall described above, which does not name any set here. We have not used these products ourselves.
Grill tool set questions, answered
What should a good bbq tool set include?
A spatula, tongs and a basting brush cover most cooks. A fork is a useful fourth tool. Anything beyond that depends on how you cook, and skewers and corn holders are easy to add later.
Are stainless steel grill tools dishwasher safe?
Many are, but it depends on the set. Alpha Grillers and Amazon Basics say so on their listings, and Popular Science says so of the OXO. Wood handles usually need hand washing, so check the care instructions that come with the set.
How long should grill tools be?
Long enough to keep your hand away from the heat. TechGearLab’s Alpha Grillers tools were about 18 inches, with shorter tongs. Travel sets are shorter or collapse, which is fine for a small grill and less so over a big fire.
Is a wire grill brush safe to use?
Conair has recalled all Cuisinart wire bristle grill brushes because bristles can detach and stick to the grill or food. If you own one, follow the CPSC notice. We chose sets without wire brushes. Our charcoal grill accessories guide covers the wider kit for the grill.
Do I need a tool set for a gas grill?
The same tools work on gas and charcoal, and Alpha Grillers lists both. On a gas grill, reach matters a little less. On a charcoal fire it matters more, so lean toward longer tools.
Our final pick for the side shelf
Buy the Alpha Grillers set for the sturdiest everyday tools, and keep a longer pair of tongs beside it. Choose the Cuisinart ash wood set if you like wood, or the OXO two-piece if you rarely grill. For travel, the Broil King kit does the most.
Once the tools are sorted, fajitas are a fine first cook, and our guide on how to eat fajitas covers the table side. If the grill stays cold tonight, see the menu or call to order.
