Shaken drinks get the attention, but a Manhattan, a martini or a Negroni is stirred, and a mixing glass is what you stir it in. You could use a pint glass or a jar. A real mixing glass gives you a heavy base that won’t tip, a spout for a clean pour and enough room for a spoon to spin.
Our bar spoon guide covers the spoon, and our strainer guide covers what sits on top. This page is about the glass between them, including what the listing says about lead in any crystal.

Quick verdict: which mixing glass to buy
Buy the Viski Crystal Mixing Beaker. It holds 26 ounces, and Viski states that it is lead-free crystal. If you usually stir one or two drinks, the 18 ounce A Bar Above Diamond Cut is a better fit. If you want a glass for the dishwasher, look at the Hiware or the Fortessa Jupiter.

Our picks for the best cocktail mixing glass
1. Viski Crystal Mixing Beaker, 26 oz – Lead-Free Crystal, Room for Rounds

A mixing glass has an easy job: hold ice and spirits steady while you stir. Viski’s beaker does that in 26 ounces of what the listing calls “lead-free crystal,” and Viski describes a sturdy glass that stays in place so you can stir with one hand and measure with the other. It works with a standard bar spoon and strainer.
That size is generous. It leaves room for a good amount of ice and more than one drink at a time, which matters if you stir Manhattans or Negronis for friends. The listing’s size field shows a different number (9 ounces), but its feature text and title say 26, and we go with those.
Crystal is the fragile part. A Bar Above, a bartending education site that also sells barware, writes that crystal is more delicate than tempered glass and “can break much more easily.” Stir gently, and don’t knock it against a metal sink.
Why we like it
- Viski states lead-free crystal on the listing.
- 26 ounces leaves room for a batch of two or three drinks.
- The maker describes a stable design for one-handed stirring.
Key specifications
| Model | 4882 |
|---|---|
| Material | Lead-free crystal |
| Capacity | 26 oz |
| Count | 1 glass |
| Dimensions | About 6.5 in high, 4.5 in across |
| Dishwasher safe | Not stated |
| Made in | Not stated |
| Care | Not stated; we would hand wash |
Why we recommend it
It suits most home bartenders who want one mixing glass that looks good on the bar and handles more than a single drink.
Skip it if you drop things often; the Hiware or Fortessa glass is a less precious option.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Lead-free crystal stated
- Large capacity
- Stated stability for one-handed stirring
Cons
- Crystal is more fragile
- Conflicting size field
- Dishwasher use not stated
2. A Bar Above Diamond Cut Mixing Glass, 18 oz – Built to Handle Temperature Swings

At 18 ounces, this is a size for one or two drinks. A Bar Above says the glass was designed by a career bartender, and it gives more construction detail than most listings: lead-free crystal, a thick weighted base, and a secondary annealing step that it says balances internal stress and helps reduce breakage from hot-to-cold bar use.
The curved interior is said to match the bend of the company’s bar spoon. It fits standard Hawthorne and julep strainers as well. The company’s diamond cut pattern is a grip and a look; its own article says the etched pattern may improve grip and adds decoration.
Remember that these are claims from the seller. We can’t verify the annealing process, but the brand does explain what it means, which many others don’t. It also sells a plain Classic Style version if you dislike the cut pattern.
Why we like it
- The listing states lead-free crystal.
- Explains its annealing process in detail.
- A compact size that fits a small bar.
Key specifications
| Model | Diamond Cut |
|---|---|
| Material | Lead-free crystal, secondary annealing |
| Capacity | 18 oz |
| Count | 1 glass |
| Dimensions | About 5.3 in high, 4 in across |
| Dishwasher safe | Not stated |
| Made in | Not stated |
| Care | Not stated; we would hand wash |
Why we recommend it
It suits someone who usually stirs one or two drinks and wants a smaller, more detailed glass.
Skip it if you batch for a group, since the 18 ounce size runs out of room fast.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Lead-free crystal
- Annealing detail stated
- Fits standard strainers
Cons
- Small for batching
- Claims are the seller’s
- Dishwasher use not stated

3. Viski Burke Geometric Mixing Glass, 28 oz – The Largest Glass Here

Viski’s second glass here is about shape and size. The Burke holds 28 ounces, has a thick base and a geometric cut, and at under 6 inches tall it is wider and shorter than the 26 ounce beaker. The listing again says “lead-free crystal,” and it describes a thick base for stability.
A wide glass gives your spoon more room to circle. It also takes up more shelf space, and it uses more ice to fill. For one drink, it is more glass than you need.
We picked two Viski glasses because they are different sizes and shapes and because the lead-free statement is clear on both. We passed on the Viski Pedestal because it already appears on our cocktail gift page.
Why we like it
- Lead-free crystal stated on the listing.
- The largest capacity on this page.
- The maker says the thick base keeps the glass from moving or sliding.
Key specifications
| Model | 11896 |
|---|---|
| Material | Lead-free crystal, geometric cut |
| Capacity | 28 oz (828 ml) |
| Count | 1 glass |
| Dimensions | About 5.75 in high, 4.4 in across |
| Dishwasher safe | Not stated |
| Made in | Not stated |
| Care | Not stated; we would hand wash |
Why we recommend it
It suits a host who stirs several drinks at once or wants a showpiece for the bar.
Skip it if you mix one drink at a time or have little shelf room.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Largest capacity
- Lead-free crystal
- Geometric cut
Cons
- More ice needed
- Crystal is fragile
- Takes up shelf space
4. Hiware Seamless Mixing Glass, 24 oz – Lead-Free and Dishwasher Safe

Hiware is an Amazon-focused brand, and its strong point is the care line. The listing states “100% lead free and dishwasher safe,” which is rare among the mixing glasses we read. It also describes a seamless body, a thick weighted bottom, a wide mouth and a beaker-like spout that fits a standard strainer.
The wording is worth reading closely. The title says “crystal” while the feature text says “lead-free glass.” In either case, lead-free is stated, but don’t assume you are buying the same material as the Viski.
The size is a practical 24 ounces, at the top of the 8 to 24 ounce range A Bar Above gives for mixing glasses. Hiware offers a money-back promise on the listing, and we found no independent test of this model that we could read.
Why we like it
- Lead-free and dishwasher safe are both stated.
- Seamless body and thick base.
- A practical size for two drinks with ice.
Key specifications
| Model | 550GS |
|---|---|
| Material | Lead-free glass, seamless |
| Capacity | 24 oz |
| Count | 1 glass |
| Dimensions | About 6 in high, 3.7 in across |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes |
| Made in | Not stated |
| Care | Dishwasher safe |
Why we recommend it
It suits someone who wants to put the glass in the dishwasher and doesn’t need a famous name on it.
Skip it if you want clear wording on material; the title and features don’t quite agree.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Dishwasher safe
- Lead-free stated
- Money-back promise
Cons
- Amazon-focused brand
- Title and features differ on material
- No independent test found

5. Fortessa Jupiter Hobnail Mixing Glass, 25 oz – Sturdy Soda-Lime and Commercial Dishwashers

Fortessa says it has offered glassware and tableware for more than 30 years, and this is the pick for anyone who wants nothing to do with crystal. The listing says it is soda-lime glass with magnesium oxide and alumina added for durability, and it says the glass is safe for commercial and residential dishwashers.
The hobnail pattern gives a raised bumpy texture on the outside, which looks vintage. It also comes in colors, though clear is best here because you can see the ice and dilution. Fortessa sells it as a mixing glass in its Jupiter line.
The listing does not mention a spout, so check the photos before you buy if you pour without a strainer. We found no independent test of this model.
Why we like it
- Soda-lime glass avoids the crystal question.
- Fortessa states commercial and residential dishwasher safety.
- Hobnail texture looks distinct.
Key specifications
| Model | JUPITERCL.2.07 |
|---|---|
| Material | Soda-lime glass with magnesium oxide and alumina |
| Capacity | 25 oz |
| Count | 1 glass |
| Dimensions | About 6 in high, 3.7 in across |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes, commercial and residential |
| Made in | Not stated |
| Care | Dishwasher safe |
Why we recommend it
It suits a home bar that gets heavy use and wants a glass that goes through the dishwasher.
Skip it if you prefer a plain body or a clearly described spout.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Dishwasher safe
- Established tableware maker
- Sturdy glass type
Cons
- Spout not described
- No independent test found
- Pattern won’t suit every bar
6. Barfly Rose Gold Mixing Glass, 17 oz – A Bar Brand With a Weighted Base

Barfly makes bar tools for bartenders and home users, and this 17 ounce glass has a heavy weighted base and a seamless interior for quick, quiet mixing. The listing calls it a two-drink glass and says it is meant to be used with an 11 13/16 inch spoon and with julep and spring strainers, which is helpful detail for matching your tools.
The listing has an odd slip: the title says Rose Gold, but a feature line calls it “this elegant blue 17 oz mixing glass.” It looks like shared text across colors, so check the photos before you order.
Barfly recommends hand washing with mild soap and warns against bleach or heavy chlorination. The material is stated as glass, not crystal.
Why we like it
- The listing gives a stated spoon length and strainer type.
- Seamless interior and weighted base.
- Stated as glass rather than crystal.
Key specifications
| Model | M37220RS |
|---|---|
| Material | Heavy duty glass, weighted base |
| Capacity | 17 oz (500 ml) |
| Count | 1 glass |
| Dimensions | About 6 in high, 3.75 in across |
| Dishwasher safe | Not stated |
| Made in | Not stated |
| Care | Hand wash with mild soap; avoid bleach |
Why we recommend it
It suits a home bartender who likes a matched Barfly kit or a splash of color.
Skip it if you want a plain clear glass or need more than two drinks at once.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Specific tool guidance
- Weighted base
- From a bar specialist
Cons
- Small for groups
- Color wording conflict
- Hand wash

7. Barillio Crystal Mixing Glass, 24 oz – Lead-Free Crystal With a Lifetime Warranty

Barillio is another Amazon-focused bar brand, and its pitch is a lifetime warranty on a 24 ounce lead-free crystal glass. The listing describes a seamless body, weighted base, beak spout and diamond-etched pattern, and it says the glass works with your spoon and a Hawthorne strainer.
A warranty is a promise from the seller, and it is only as good as the seller’s future. The listing doesn’t explain the terms, so keep your receipt and read them. In other ways this is much like the other cut crystal glasses on the market, and we include it last because it is a thin brand with less history behind it.
Like all crystal, it deserves gentle handling. A Bar Above’s warning that crystal breaks more easily applies here too.
Why we like it
- Lead-free crystal stated in the title.
- Beak spout for pouring.
- Lifetime warranty, according to the listing.
Key specifications
| Model | SH-1042 |
|---|---|
| Material | Seamless lead-free crystal, weighted base |
| Capacity | 24 oz |
| Count | 1 glass |
| Dimensions | Not stated |
| Dishwasher safe | Not stated |
| Made in | Not stated |
| Care | Not stated; we would hand wash |
Why we recommend it
It suits a buyer who wants the look of cut crystal and values a stated warranty.
Skip it if you prefer a long-established barware maker; choose Viski instead.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Lead-free crystal
- Stated lifetime warranty
- Spout included
Cons
- Warranty terms not spelled out
- Amazon-focused brand
- Crystal is fragile
How to choose a stirring glass
Pick a size for your usual batch
Ice takes up much of the room, so a mixing glass needs to be several times bigger than the drink. A Bar Above gives a range of 8 to 24 ounces for mixing glasses. We would treat 17 to 18 ounces as a one or two drink size, and 24 ounces or more as the choice for rounds.
Crystal or glass
Crystal looks attractive, but A Bar Above warns that it is more fragile and costs more than tempered glass. Soda-lime glass is less fancy and easier to live with. If you buy crystal, look for a maker’s lead-free statement. Every crystal pick on this page has one on its listing. We left out cut glasses that call themselves crystal and say nothing about lead.
Seamless or not
Seamless glasses have no ridge from the mold, so the spoon glides along smoothly and there is one less weak line. A Bar Above calls the seamless type the most common and says it is easy to clean.
Check the base and spout
A thick, heavy base stops the glass from sliding while you stir one-handed. A spout helps you pour without dribbling, especially with a julep or Hawthorne strainer on top. Check that your strainer fits. Most listings here say they fit standard strainers.
Care
Only the Hiware and Fortessa state dishwasher safety. Barfly asks for hand washing. Cold glass and hot water are a bad mix, so let a chilled glass warm before you rinse it with hot water.
How we picked these seven glasses
We did not test these glasses. We read each Amazon listing through Amazon’s product data and kept only glasses that were in stock with a new lead offer. Crystal had to carry a lead-free statement from the maker on its listing. We read A Bar Above’s article on mixing glass types, and we note that the company also sells them. Other reviews we found were affiliate roundups with testing claims we could not verify, so we don’t rely on them.
The Cocktail Kingdom Yarai and Sokata glasses already appear on our other pages, so we didn’t repeat them. We also left out four-packs meant for bars, and glasses with no material or brand detail. We checked the CPSC recall database by brand and found no recall naming these glasses. The database returned an error for A Bar Above, so we can’t say either way for that brand.
Cocktail mixing glass questions, answered
Do I really need a mixing glass?
No. You can stir in a pint glass or the large tin of a shaker. A mixing glass gives you a steadier base, a spout and a nicer view of what you are doing.
What size stirring glass is best?
For one or two drinks, 17 to 18 ounces works. For rounds, choose 24 to 28 ounces.
Is crystal better than glass for a mixing glass?
Crystal looks clearer and has more sparkle, but it is more fragile. Glass is the practical choice. Your drink won’t know the difference if you stir it the same way.
Are crystal mixing glasses lead-free?
Not all makers say. Viski, A Bar Above and Barillio state lead-free crystal on the listings we read. If a listing is silent, ask the maker.
What strainer goes with a mixing glass?
A julep strainer is the traditional match, and a Hawthorne works too. Our strainer guide compares them.
Our final pick for stirred drinks
The Viski beaker is the one we would put on most home bars, with the A Bar Above glass for smaller batches. Please drink responsibly, and only if you are of legal drinking age. Add a bar spoon, then see our cocktail glass guide for what to pour into. If you are building a whole kit, our cocktail tool set guide is the next stop.
