Every family table has one glass that is always closest to the edge, and it belongs to the smallest person sitting there. A child reaching across for the salsa or pushing back from a plate of enchiladas will knock a cup over sooner or later. The question is what happens when it lands: a bounce, a dent, or a floor full of glass.
This guide covers drinking glasses for kids that are built for that moment: small tempered glass tumblers for children ready for the real thing, shatter-resistant Tritan and acrylic that look like glass, silicone and stainless steel for toddlers, and lidded cups for the car. Every claim about materials and care is the maker’s own, and we checked the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall site for each brand.

Quick verdict: which kids’ drinking glass to buy
For a school-age child ready for real glass, the Duralex Provence 8 3/8 oz tumblers are the pick: small, made in France from tempered glass that Duralex says is up to 2.5 times stronger than ordinary glassware. If you want no glass at all, the Tervis 10 oz Tritan Kid’s Cups are made in the USA, recommended by Tervis for ages 3 and up, and covered by a lifetime guarantee. For toddlers, the Elk and Friends stainless steel jars come with silicone sleeves and straw lids.
Here are the five standouts side by side, followed by all eight cups in full.

Our picks for the best drinking glasses kids can use
These eight cups cover the ages most families pass through: silicone and stainless steel for toddlers, Tritan and acrylic for preschoolers who want a “real” glass, and small tempered glass tumblers for older children. We left out the drinkware already reviewed on our glassware sets guide.
1. Duralex Provence 8 3/8 oz Tumblers, Set of 6 – Real Glass at Kid Size

Duralex Provence tumblers are plain, clear French glasses, and the 8 3/8 oz size is small enough for a child’s hand. The listing calls this a classic French tumbler that is shock and chip resistant, stackable, dishwasher safe and microwave safe.
The size is the point: it fits a child’s hand and holds a sensible serving of milk or agua fresca. Our glassware sets guide covers Duralex’s larger glasses for adults.
Duralex’s own Provence page says the glass is made in France, free from lead and cadmium, and tempered to be up to 2.5 times stronger than ordinary glassware. Tempered glass is tougher than ordinary glass, but it is still glass: it can break on a tile floor, so this is a pick for children old enough to sit and drink carefully.
Why we like it
- Tempered glass, up to 2.5 times stronger than ordinary glassware (Duralex)
- Small 8 3/8 oz size for kids’ hands
- Lead and cadmium free (Duralex)
- Dishwasher and microwave safe, per the listing
Key specifications

| Lid or straw | No |
Why we recommend it
It suits school-age children and families who want real glass on the table, just smaller and tougher.
Skip it if your child is a toddler or your kitchen floor is tile or stone; tempered tempered glass can still break.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Real glass, no plastic taste
- Shock and chip resistant, per the listing
- Stacks and goes in the dishwasher
Cons
- Still breakable
- Not for toddlers
- Short listing
2. Tervis 10 oz Tritan Kid’s Cups, Set of 4 – Made in USA, Guaranteed for Life

Tervis builds its tumblers with a double wall, and the 10 oz size is the one it calls kid-friendly, recommended for ages 3 and up. The listing describes the material as Tritan, which Tervis calls strong, impact resistant and BPA-free, and says the cups can “take a tumble without shattering”.
The double wall keeps cold drinks cold longer and cuts condensation, so there are fewer wet rings on the table and fewer slippery cups. Tervis gives the outer wall a contoured shape for easier gripping.
Tervis says most of its tumblers are microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe, and that each classic tumbler is made in America and backed by a lifetime guarantee.
Why we like it
- Recommended for ages 3 and up (Tervis)
- Impact-resistant, BPA-free Tritan (Tervis)
- Double wall reduces condensation (Tervis)
- Made in USA, lifetime guarantee (Tervis)
Key specifications
| Model | 1442676 (Clear & Colorful Tabletop) |

| Dimensions | Not stated; fits most cup holders |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes; also microwave and freezer |
| Made in | USA |
| Lid or straw | No (sold separately by Tervis) |
Why we recommend it
It suits preschoolers and older kids who want a cup that looks like the grown-ups’ and survives a drop.
Skip it if you want something that feels like glass; a double-wall tumbler is thicker and lighter in the hand.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Lifetime guarantee
- Less condensation
- Made in the USA
Cons
- Bulkier than a single-wall cup
- No lid in this set
3. Drinique 10 oz Tritan Tumblers, Set of 4 – Looks Like Glass, Won’t Shatter

Drinique makes Tritan drinkware for pools, boats and parties, and its 10 oz tumbler is a good size for kids who want to drink from what looks like a real glass. Drinique says the tumblers are BPA-free Tritan that “will never shatter” and are stronger than acrylic or polycarbonate.
The set is tinted blue, stackable and made in the USA, according to the listing. Drinique rates the glasses dishwasher, microwave and freezer safe, and Amazon’s warranty field lists a lifetime guarantee against breaking and cracking.
The listing is written for adults (“kid proof” is one of its selling points), so there is no age guidance; it is a single-wall tumbler with no lid.
Why we like it
- BPA-free Tritan (Drinique)
- Lifetime guarantee against breaking and cracking (listing)
- Made in USA, stackable (Drinique)
Key specifications
| Model | ELT-RK-BLU-4 |

Why we recommend it
It suits families who want the kids’ glasses to match a clear, grown-up table, and for patio and pool days.
Skip it if you need age guidance or a lid; the listing gives neither.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Glass-like look
- Lifetime guarantee
- Stacks for storage
Cons
- Marketed to adults, no age rating
- Dimensions not stated
4. Elk and Friends 10 oz Stainless Steel Jars, 4-Pack – Sleeves and Two Lids

Stainless steel cannot shatter, and Elk and Friends makes it friendlier for toddlers by adding a removable silicone sleeve that the maker says adds grip and protects against bumps and drops. Each 10 oz jar comes with a straw lid for drinking and a storage lid for snacks or leftovers.
Elk and Friends says the jars are 304 (18/8) stainless steel with food-grade silicone and BPA-free plastic, and that they go in the dishwasher with the sleeve on. The maker also says the products are independently tested by third parties to meet safety standards.
The straw has a stopper but no valve, so Elk and Friends warns that liquid can flow through the straw if the jar is tipped upside down. That makes thick smoothies easy to drink, but these are not spill-proof cups.
Why we like it
- 304 (18/8) stainless steel (Elk and Friends)
- Removable silicone sleeve for grip (Elk and Friends)
- Straw lid plus storage lid (Elk and Friends)
- Dishwasher safe with sleeve on (Elk and Friends)
Key specifications

| Made in | Not stated |
| Lid or straw | Straw lid with silicone straw and stopper; storage lid |
Why we recommend it
It suits toddlers and preschoolers, and families cutting back on plastic.
Skip it if you need a truly spill-proof cup for the car; the straw has no valve.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Cannot shatter
- Two lids for drinks and snacks
- Sleeve stays on in the dishwasher
Cons
- Not spill-proof
- You cannot see how much is left
5. Silipint 8 oz Silicone Kids Straw Tumblers, 2-Pack – Soft, Bouncy and Lidded

Silicone is the softest material here: a Silipint cup that falls off a high chair bounces instead of cracking or denting. Silipint says the 8 oz tumbler is made of 100% food-grade silicone, BPA-free and odorless, and that it resists drops, dents and cracks.
Each tumbler comes with a lid and a soft, flexible silicone straw, which Silipint says helps prevent spills. The maker rates it microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe and says it keeps its shape without warping, cracking or fading.
The flexible walls are both the charm and the catch: silicone gives when squeezed, so a firm grip from a small hand can push liquid up the straw or over the rim.
Why we like it
- 100% food-grade silicone, BPA-free (Silipint)
- Lid and soft silicone straw included (Silipint)
- Microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe (Silipint)
Key specifications
| Model | 8ST-PAK-207 |
|---|---|
| Material | Food-grade silicone |
| Capacity | 8 oz |
| Count | 2 |
| Dimensions | Not stated |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes; also microwave and freezer |
| Made in | Not stated |
| Lid or straw | Lid and silicone straw |
Why we recommend it
It suits toddlers who throw cups and parents who want a lid at the table.
Skip it if you dislike the soft, squishy feel of silicone; a squeezed cup can spill from the top.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Bounces when dropped
- Lid and straw included
- Microwave safe
Cons
- Squeezable walls
- Only two cups per pack

6. Scandinovia 8 oz Acrylic Juice Glasses, Set of 4 – Small Cups Made in Japan

These are the smallest cups in this guide, and the listing gives exact sizes: 3.15 inches across the top, 2.36 inches at the base and 3.35 inches tall. That tapered shape is easy for a preschooler to wrap a hand around, and the 8 oz capacity is right for juice or milk.
Scandinovia says the cups are made in Japan from super grade acrylic that is BPA-free and Prop 65 compliant, and that they are dishwasher safe and stackable. They come in assorted colors, which helps at a table with several children.
Acrylic is clear and light; Drinique, which sells Tritan, describes Tritan as stronger than acrylic, and plastic cups of any kind can scuff with years of washing. Scandinovia’s warranty, per the listing, is 60 days.
Why we like it
- Exact dimensions published (Scandinovia)
- Made in Japan, BPA-free acrylic (Scandinovia)
- Dishwasher safe and stackable (Scandinovia)
Key specifications
| Model | CT-01 |
|---|---|
| Material | Acrylic |

| Dishwasher safe | Yes |
| Made in | Japan |

Skip it if you want a long guarantee; the warranty runs 60 days.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Small, tapered and easy to hold
- Exact sizes published
- Colors tell cups apart
Cons
- Acrylic, not Tritan
- Short 60-day warranty
7. Zak Designs Bluey Nesting Tumblers, 14.5 oz, 4-Pack – Character Cups That Stack

Sometimes the best kids’ cup is the one a child actually wants to drink from. Zak Designs prints a different Bluey character on each of these four tumblers, and the cone shape lets them nest inside one another to save cabinet space.
Zak Designs says the cups are durable plastic, completely BPA-free and top-rack dishwasher safe, and that they should not go in the microwave. The listing does not name the type of plastic. At 14.5 oz each they are the largest cups here, better for older kids or for water than for a toddler’s juice.
On recalls: Zak Designs recalled about 178,000 26-ounce water bottles sold at Target in 2015 because a straw in the cap could break, according to the CPSC. These nesting tumblers have no straw or lid and were not part of that recall.
Why we like it
- Four different Bluey designs (Zak Designs)
- BPA-free, top-rack dishwasher safe (Zak Designs)
- Nest for storage (Zak Designs)
Key specifications
| Model | BLUC-R020 |
|---|---|
| Material | Plastic, BPA-free (type not stated) |
| Capacity | 14.5 oz |
| Count | 4 |
| Dimensions | Not stated |
| Dishwasher safe | Top rack; not microwave safe |
| Made in | Not stated |
| Lid or straw | No |
Why we recommend it
It suits young Bluey fans who need a reason to finish their water.
Skip it if you want to know exactly what plastic your child drinks from; Zak Designs does not say on the listing.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Kids like them
- Nest in the cupboard
- Dishwasher safe
Cons
- Plastic type not stated
- No microwave
- Large for small toddlers
8. REDUCE GoGo’s Kids 12 oz Tumblers, 5-Pack – Lids and Straws for the Road

For road trips and the drive to practice, a lid matters more than the material. REDUCE’s GoGo’s tumblers come five to a pack, each with a twist-on lid and what the maker calls a spill-proof straw. REDUCE says they fit cup holders and booster seats and stack for storage.
The listing describes the cups as BPA-free and the title calls them dishwasher safe. It does not name the plastic, give dimensions or say where they are made.
On recalls: in 2018 the CPSC announced a recall of about 2,000 REDUCE Hydro Pro Furry Friends children’s water bottles from Base Brands, because the pink paint on one design contained lead above the federal limit. The GoGo’s tumblers are a different product and were not named in that recall; we found no CPSC recall for them.
Why we like it
- Twist-on lids and spill-proof straws (REDUCE)
- Five cups per pack, stackable (REDUCE)
- Fit cup holders and booster seats (REDUCE)
Key specifications
| Model | 13714-FF |
|---|---|
| Material | BPA-free plastic (type not stated) |
| Capacity | 12 oz |
| Count | 5 |
| Dimensions | Not stated; fits cup holders |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes (listing title) |
| Made in | Not stated |
| Lid or straw | Twist-on lid, spill-proof straw |
Why we recommend it
It suits families who need a stack of lidded cups for the car, the park and the grandparents’ house.
Skip it if you want a cup for the dinner table; a straw lid is overkill for sitting down to eat.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Lids and straws included
- Five cups per pack
- Cup-holder friendly
Cons
- Few published specs
- Straws and lids add parts to wash
How to choose a drinking glass for a child
The right cup changes as a child grows. These are the points that matter at the table.
Material
Silicone bounces and stainless steel dents, so neither shatters. Tritan and acrylic look like glass; Drinique describes Tritan as stronger than acrylic. Tempered glass, like Duralex, is much stronger than ordinary glass by the maker’s figures, but it can still break, so save it for children old enough to drink sitting down.
Size and shape
Small hands do best with cups around 7 to 10 ounces, a narrow or tapered body, and a low center of gravity. Bigger cups are heavier when full and tip more easily.
Lid or open cup
Open cups are for the table. Lids and straws are for the car, the couch and the park. Check whether a straw has a valve: Elk and Friends, for example, says its straw has none and can leak if tipped.
What the maker says about the material
Look for the maker’s own statement of the material and whether it is BPA-free, and be wary of listings that do not say what plastic a cup is made from. We only repeat what each maker states.
Care
Most of these cups go in the dishwasher; some plastic cups are top-rack only, and some cannot be microwaved. A straw lid adds parts to clean.

How we chose these eight kids’ cups
We did not use these cups at home or in the restaurant. We looked for drinkware sized for children from identifiable makers, read each Amazon listing through Amazon’s product data, and recorded the material, capacity and care each maker states. Every product was in stock on Amazon when we wrote this guide.
We searched the CPSC’s recall site, cpsc.gov, for each brand. We found no recalls for Duralex, Tervis, Drinique, Elk and Friends, Silipint or Scandinovia. We found one past recall each for Zak Designs and for REDUCE (Base Brands), both for other products, and we describe them in those reviews. We also left out the cups and plates already covered on our kids’ plates and kids’ melamine plates guides.
Kids’ glassware questions, answered
What are the best drinking glasses for kids?
For older children, small tempered glass tumblers such as the Duralex Provence 8 3/8 oz. For toddlers and preschoolers, shatterproof Tritan like the Tervis kid’s cups, or stainless steel and silicone.
At what age can a child use a real glass?
There is no set age. Most families wait until a child can sit and drink without tipping the cup, and start with a small, tough glass at the table.
Is Tritan safe for kids?
Tervis and Drinique both describe their Tritan cups as BPA-free. We repeat only what the makers state and make no further health claims.
Are stainless steel cups good for toddlers?
They cannot shatter and are easy to clean. A silicone sleeve, like the one Elk and Friends includes, adds grip and, the maker says, protects against bumps and drops.
Can kids’ cups go in the dishwasher?
All eight here are dishwasher safe according to their makers, though Zak Designs specifies the top rack. Check the listing for microwave use.

Our last word on cups for the kids’ table
Start with the Duralex Provence 8 3/8 oz if your children are old enough for glass, or the Tervis Tritan cups if they are not. Add a few stainless or silicone cups for toddlers and a lidded set for the car, and every age is covered. For the grown-ups’ glasses, see our glassware sets and wine glasses guides.
