“Heavy duty” is on nearly every grill cover sold, and it does not mean anything by itself. A kitchen buys an apron or a floor mat by what it is made of, and a cover should be bought the same way. So this guide only counts a cover if the maker actually states the fabric: a denier number, a thickness, or a named material.
That filter cuts out a lot of covers. It does not tell you how long any of them will last, because neither denier nor thickness is a promise. Sun, wind and how you put the cover on matter too. But it does let you compare like with like, and it tells you what you are paying for.

Quick verdict: which heavy-duty cover to buy
For most full-size gas grills, buy the Classic Accessories Ravenna 58-inch: Classic Accessories names the fabric, a woven polyester it calls Gardelle One, with a water-resistant backing and a belted hem for wind. For the largest grills, the Char-Broil Rip-Stop Extra Large states a 24-mil polyester and fits up to 72 inches wide. If you want a stated denier, the Porch Shield 52-inch gives 600D polyester with a waterproof undercoating.
The table compares five of the seven picks. All seven follow, with what denier and mil mean after that.

Our picks for the best heavy duty grill cover
Every cover here has a stated fabric. We have not used these products ourselves, and we did not measure the fabric; we are reporting what the maker says.
1. Classic Accessories Ravenna 58-inch Grill Cover – Named Fabric, Belted Hem

This is the Ravenna line, not the Veranda that tops our gas grill cover guide. Classic Accessories calls the fabric Gardelle One: a durable woven polyester with a UV-stabilized coating and a water-resistant laminated undercoating. It gives no denier figure, but it does tell you what the fabric is.
What sets it apart for windy yards is the fastening. The listing describes a patented WindLock attachment system with an adjustable belted hem and click-close straps, and elastic hem cords for a snug fit. Structured vents stay open, are lined with mesh, and are there to guard against wind lofting. Padded handles and double-stitched seams round it out.
Read the wording: this is water-resistant, not waterproof. Also, the listing’s warranty is inconsistent. Its feature text says limited lifetime and its product data says two-year limited, so confirm with the seller before relying on it. At our last check the seller was CoverBonanza, not Amazon.
Why we like it
- Named fabric, with coating and undercoating stated
- Belted hem and click-close straps for wind
- Mesh-lined vents that stay open
- Reinforced padded handles
Key specifications
| Model | 55-140-035101-EC |
|---|---|
| Stated fabric | Gardelle One woven polyester, UV-stabilized coating, water-resistant laminated undercoating |
| Stated size or fit | 58 x 24 x 48 inches |
| Water wording | Water-resistant |
| Vents | Structured, mesh-lined |
| Fastening | Belted hem, click-close straps, elastic cords |
| Grill type | Full-size gas grills, Weber Genesis II E-310 named |
| Warranty | Listing states limited lifetime; product data says 2-year limited |
Why we recommend it
It is the pick for a full-size gas grill in an open yard, where the wind does more damage to a cover than the rain.
Skip it if you need truly waterproof. The maker says water-resistant, so a very wet climate may call for a waterproof backing.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Clear fabric statement
- Strong wind features
- Named fit for Weber Genesis II E-310
Cons
- No denier figure
- Warranty wording conflicts on the listing
- Sold by a third-party seller at last check
2. Char-Broil Rip-Stop Grill Cover, 5+ Burner Extra Large – 24-Mil Polyester for Big Grills

Char-Broil gives a thickness where others give a marketing word: 24-mil polyester fabric with an interior coating. A mil is a thousandth of an inch. For scale, Bob Vila’s review reports 14 mil for a Char-Broil basic cover, so this is the thicker of the two by the numbers.
It is built for big rigs. Char-Broil says it fits 5, 6 or 7 burner gas grills, x-large combo grills, charcoal grills and smokers up to 72 inches wide, measuring 72 by 24 by 42 inches. Sealed seams are there for water resistance, there is UV protection for fade resistance, and adjustable side straps hold it on.
The listing does not mention vents or a warranty term. On a cover this large, wind can get underneath, so tighten the straps.
Why we like it
- Stated 24-mil polyester
- Fits up to 72 inches wide
- Sealed seams and UV protection, per the maker
- Sold by Amazon at last check
Key specifications
| Model | 2166393P04V |
|---|---|
| Stated fabric | 24-mil polyester with interior coating |
| Stated size or fit | 72 x 24 x 42 inches |
| Water wording | Sealed seams for water resistance |
| Vents | Not stated |
| Fastening | Adjustable side straps |
| Grill type | 5 to 7 burner gas, x-large combo, charcoal, smokers |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It is the first one to look at if your grill is too big for most universal covers.
Skip it if your grill is under about 60 inches. A cover this large will hang loose.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Stated thickness
- Fits large combos and smokers
- Adjustable straps
Cons
- No vents mentioned
- Warranty not stated
- Water-resistant wording only

3. Char-Griller 5555 Grill and Smoker Cover – Polyester With a PVC Lining

Char-Griller makes barrel-style charcoal grills and smokers, and this is its own fitted cover for them. The listing names the fabric plainly: weather-resistant polyester with a PVC lining, described in the title as waterproof material. It gives no denier figure, but it does tell you what the cover is made of.
The stated size is 46 inches long by 23 wide by 48.5 high, with an extendable design. Char-Griller lists it for its models 3018, 2121, 2222, 2828, 2727, 2929, 1224, E1224, 1329 and 1334, so it is the cover to buy if you own one of those barrel grills rather than a full-size gas grill.
Care is hand wash. The listing’s warranty line says only that Char-Griller will replace or repair a product it finds defective, at its discretion; no term in years is given.
Why we like it
- Named fabric: polyester with a PVC lining
- Made by the grill maker for its own barrels
- Model list printed on the listing
- Extendable design
Key specifications
| Model | 5555 |
|---|---|
| Stated fabric | Weather-resistant polyester with PVC lining |
| Stated size or fit | 46 x 23 x 48.5 inches |
| Water wording | Waterproof material (title); weather resistant (features) |
| Vents | Not stated |
| Fastening | Not stated |
| Grill type | Char-Griller barrel grills and smokers (models listed) |
| Warranty | Repair or replace if defective, at maker’s discretion; no term stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits someone with a Char-Griller barrel grill or smoker who wants the maker’s own fitted cover with a stated fabric.
Skip it if you own a different grill; check the model list first, and look at the universal covers here instead.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Fabric and lining named
- Fitted to named models
- From the grill’s own maker
Cons
- No denier or thickness given
- Vents and fastening not stated
- No warranty term in years
4. Porch Shield 52-inch Grill Cover – 600D With a Stated Backing

Here is the number people look for: 600D. Porch Shield says this cover is made of 600D polyester with a waterproof undercoating and a UV-resistant treatment, with double-stitched, sealed seams. Denier measures how thick the yarn is, so 600D tells you about the yarn, not about how the finished cover will age.
The actual cover is 54 by 24 by 46 inches, sold for cart grills up to 52 inches, and it says it fits most popular brands. It uses adjustable click-close straps and bottom buckle straps against wind, large air vents to limit condensation, and woven handles.
Porch Shield is a brand we know mainly from Amazon, and the seller at our last check was Explore Land. The listing’s three-year warranty does not come with terms, so ask about those if the warranty is the reason you are buying.
Why we like it
- Stated 600D polyester
- Waterproof undercoating
- Double-stitched, sealed seams
- Three-year warranty on the listing
Key specifications
| Model | Not stated |
|---|---|
| Stated fabric | 600D polyester, waterproof undercoating, UV treatment |
| Stated size or fit | Cover 54 x 24 x 46 inches; carts up to 52 inches |
| Water wording | Waterproof, per the listing |
| Vents | Large air vents |
| Fastening | Click-close straps, bottom buckle straps |
| Grill type | 2 to 3 burner gas |
| Warranty | 3 years |
Why we recommend it
It is a good fit for a 2 to 3 burner grill, for someone who wants a stated denier and a waterproof backing.
Skip it if you want a known grill brand. Porch Shield is a brand we know mainly from Amazon.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Stated denier
- Waterproof wording
- Vents and two kinds of strap
Cons
- Third-party seller
- Warranty terms not given
- Sold for 2 to 3 burners, so too small for larger grills

5. ULTCOVER 64-inch Grill Cover – 600D for 4 to 6 Burners

ULTCOVER gives a stated fabric at a larger size: heavy-duty 600D polyester with a UV-resistant coating and waterproof backing, cut 64 inches long by 24 wide for most 4 to 6 burner gas grills. As with others, measure first; it says the cover is not designed to fully cover the wheels.
Two built-in vents are there to reduce moisture and wind lift, and adjustable straps and drawcords pull around the legs. The listing shows a three-year warranty. It does not give terms.
This is a maker we know mainly from Amazon, and at our last check the seller shown was Superrella. We included it because few big-name covers state a denier at this size. The stated figures are the seller’s.
Why we like it
- Stated 600D polyester
- Waterproof backing and UV coating
- Side vents, straps and drawcords
- Three-year warranty on the listing
Key specifications
| Model | UBQ |
|---|---|
| Stated fabric | 600D polyester, UV-resistant coating, waterproof backing |
| Stated size or fit | 64 x 24 inches, height not stated in the features |
| Water wording | Waterproof, per the listing |
| Vents | Structured side vents |
| Fastening | Adjustable straps, drawcords |
| Grill type | 4 to 6 burner gas |
| Warranty | 3 years |
Why we recommend it
It suits a 4 to 6 burner grill where you want a stated denier in a longer cover.
Skip it if you want a known grill brand on the cover. Weber and Traeger make fitted covers for their own grills.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Stated denier at a large size
- Waterproof wording
- Good fastening
Cons
- Third-party seller
- Warranty terms not given
- Universal fit is approximate
6. Traeger Woodridge Full-Length Grill Cover – Cut for One Pellet Grill

If you own a Traeger Woodridge, a fitted cover beats a universal one for one simple reason: it is cut to the shape. Traeger calls the fabric durable heavy-duty abrasion-resistant polyester, built to last for years, and says its all-weather protection guards against rain, snow, UV and sun. It also leaves room for P.A.L. rails and grill tools.
The fit is narrow on purpose. Traeger says it fits model TFB86MLH and is not compatible with the Woodridge Pro or Woodridge Elite. Traeger sells another cover, BAC776, for those, so check your model number.
The stated fabric is a description with no denier number, and the listing gives no warranty or vent details. For other pellet grills, see our pellet grill accessories guide.
Why we like it
- Cut for one specific grill
- Stated abrasion-resistant polyester
- Allows for P.A.L. rails and tools
- Sold by Amazon at last check
Key specifications
| Model | BAC761 |
|---|---|
| Stated fabric | Heavy-duty abrasion-resistant polyester |
| Stated size or fit | 52 x 28 x 46 inches, for Traeger Woodridge TFB86MLH |
| Water wording | All-weather protection, rain, snow, UV and sun |
| Vents | Not stated |
| Fastening | Not stated |
| Grill type | Traeger Woodridge pellet grill |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It is the right buy for a Woodridge owner, and only for a Woodridge owner.
Skip it if you own a Woodridge Pro or Elite, or anything else. It will not fit, by Traeger’s own statement.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Made by the grill’s maker
- Fitted shape
- Stated fabric type
Cons
- Fits one model only
- No denier figure
- No warranty or vents listed

7. Weber 22-inch Kettle Grill Cover – Heavy-Duty for the Round Grill

Most heavy-duty covers are built for a cart grill, so kettle owners get left out. Weber’s own 22-inch cover states a premium heavy-duty polyester that is UV and water resistant and breathable, with straps to hold it on in wind. The listing also gives a two-year warranty.
This is model 7176, a different listing and model from the black Premium cover (7150) on our Weber grill cover guide. Weber calls this one heavy-duty in its fabric line, which is why it fits this page; the listing gives no denier.
It is only for 22-inch kettles. If your kettle has a side table, check the fit, since Weber’s other 22-inch cover excludes those and this listing does not address it.
Why we like it
- Weber’s stated heavy-duty polyester
- Made for 22-inch kettles
- UV and water resistant, breathable
- Sold by Amazon at last check
Key specifications
| Model | 7176 |
|---|---|
| Stated fabric | Premium heavy-duty polyester |
| Stated size or fit | 22-inch charcoal grills |
| Water wording | UV and water resistant, breathable |
| Vents | Not stated |
| Fastening | Straps |
| Grill type | 22-inch charcoal kettle |
| Warranty | 2 years |
Why we recommend it
It suits a 22-inch kettle that stays outside all year.
Skip it if your kettle has a side table and you cannot confirm the fit, or your grill is another size.
Pros and cons
Pros
- From the grill’s maker
- Round cut
- Straps for wind
Cons
- No denier figure
- No vents mentioned
- One size only
What denier, mil and water wording really tell you
Denier is a measure of how thick a yarn is, so a 600D fabric is woven from thicker yarn than a 300D fabric of the same fiber. It does not measure coating, stitching or how a cover handles sun. A mil is a thousandth of an inch, and it describes thickness of the finished material. The two are not interchangeable, so you cannot rank a 600D cover against a 24-mil one.
Water wording is worth reading closely too. Classic’s Ravenna says water-resistant. Porch Shield and ULTCOVER say waterproof. Bob Vila’s guide points out that “polyester isn’t inherently waterproof, so it is usually chemically treated with a PVC layer,” which is why the backing is what you are actually relying on. PopSci, for its part, calls canvas the best material and says polyester is more prone to tearing, but none of our seven is canvas, and we did not search canvas covers for this guide.
No fabric figure tells you how long a cover will last, and we found no independent test comparing denier across these brands. A search for one turned up mostly affiliate roundups that we did not rely on. Treat these numbers as a way to compare what makers claim, not as a lifespan.
How to choose a heavy-duty grill cover
Size comes first, and only then the fabric.
- Measure the grill. Width with shelves up or down, depth and height. Most universal covers stop short of the wheels and legs, and many listings say so.
- Look for a stated fabric. A denier, a mil thickness or a named fabric gives you something to compare. “Heavy duty” on its own does not.
- Check the backing. A coated polyester relies on the backing or undercoating to keep water out. Read whether it says waterproof or water-resistant.
- Plan for wind. In an open yard, straps and a belted hem count as much as fabric. Vents help reduce lift and condensation.
- Fitted or universal. A cover from your grill’s maker will usually fit better, but it fits only that grill. A universal cover moves with you to your next grill.
- Let the grill cool. Wait until it is fully cool before you put any cover on, and check your cover’s own care instructions.

How we picked these seven covers
We read the listings for dozens of covers and only counted those whose maker states a fabric: a denier, a thickness or a named material. Duck Covers, Napoleon and other well-known covers that only say “durable fabric” did not make it, though they may be perfectly good covers. No pick shares an exact listing with our other cover pages.
We have not used these products ourselves. Specifications come from the Amazon listings. We also read Bob Vila’s and PopSci’s grill cover guides. Bob Vila says it tested its Weber pick over a year and does not say that for the others; PopSci describes research, not testing.
Heavy-duty cover questions, answered
What makes a grill cover heavy duty?
There is no standard for the phrase. Look for a stated fabric, a coating or backing, sealed or double-stitched seams, and good straps.
Is 600D better than 24-mil?
They measure different things, so the numbers cannot be compared. Denier describes yarn thickness and a mil describes finished thickness.
Is a waterproof cover better than a water-resistant one?
It depends where you live and what the backing is. A cover without vents can trap moisture, so look for vents along with any waterproof claim.
Does Consumer Reports rate heavy duty grill covers?
We did not read a Consumer Reports rating for this guide, so we do not cite one.
Should I buy a fitted cover or a universal one?
A cover from your grill’s maker is cut for that grill. A universal cover can follow you to your next grill. If your grill has an odd shape, go fitted.
Our final pick for a tough cover
Buy the Classic Accessories Ravenna for most full-size gas grills, the Char-Broil Rip-Stop Extra Large for the biggest ones, and the Porch Shield if you want a stated 600D at a smaller size. Measure first, whichever you choose.
