Before You Buy the Best Gas Grill Cover: Fit, Fabric and Vents

Which gas grill cover fits your grill? Maker-made and universal covers compared on fit, fabric, vents and straps, plus how to keep a covered grill dry.

A gas grill with a propane tank on a wooden porch against a log wall in low sunlight
A gas grill on an open porch takes sun and weather every day it sits outside.

A gas grill spends most of its life switched off and sitting outside. In Houston that means summer sun on the lid, heavy rain, pollen, humid nights and the odd storm that sends patio furniture across the yard. A cover will not make a cheap grill last forever, but it keeps rain off the control knobs and igniter, keeps leaves and wasps out of the burner box, and stops the sun from baking the side shelves and handles day after day.

Covers look alike in photos, and the listings all promise “heavy duty” and “waterproof”. What separates them is fit, the fabric the maker actually names, whether there are vents to let damp air out, and how the cover holds on in wind. This guide covers the maker-made covers from Weber, Napoleon, Broil King and Char-Broil, and the universal covers from Classic Accessories and Unicook, with the specifications each maker states and what they leave out.

Quick verdict: which gas grill cover to buy

If your grill maker sells a cover for your exact model, buy that one: the Weber Premium Grill Cover for Spirit, the Napoleon cover for the Rogue 425 and the Broil King 58-inch Premium cover are each cut for named grills, and fit matters more than fabric. If no cover is made for your grill, or you want a single cover that fits most 3- and 4-burner grills, the Classic Accessories Veranda 58-inch cover is the best overall choice, with air vents, front buckle straps, an adjustable hem cord and a 3-year limited warranty. Measure your grill before you order any of them.

The table compares the five strongest picks, one for each kind of grill owner. All eight covers are reviewed in full after it.

Our picks for the best gas grill cover

These eight covers fall into two groups. Five are made by grill companies for named models, which is the surest way to get a cover that reaches the right height and does not drag on the ground. Three are universal covers sold by size, which make sense when your grill’s maker does not sell a cover or your grill is an older model. Each pick lists the fit, fabric, closures and warranty the maker states, and says plainly where a detail is not given.

1. Classic Accessories Veranda 58-inch Grill Cover – Vents, Straps and a Tight Hem

Best overallClassic Accessories Veranda Water-Resistant 58" BBQ Grill Cover

The Veranda is the universal cover to buy when your grill maker does not sell one, or when you have a grill that is a few years old and the original cover is long gone. Classic Accessories sizes it at 58 inches long, 24 inches deep and 48 inches high, and lists it for propane and natural gas grills from Weber, Char-Broil, JennAir, Cuisinart, Napoleon and others. That covers most full-size three- and four-burner grills with side shelves, but measure yours first: width across the shelves, depth front to back, and height from the ground to the top of the lid.

What makes it the best overall pick is how it is built to stay on and breathe. Classic Accessories describes a fabric system with a water-repellent top, a water-resistant backing and a darker splash-guard skirt along the bottom, where mud and rain splash hits. There are air vents for airflow, click-close straps that buckle at the front, and an elastic hem cord with toggles so you can draw the bottom in for a snug fit. Padded handles make it easier to lift off a hot-weather grill without wrestling it.

One limit is stated in the listing itself: the Veranda is not designed to cover the wheels or legs entirely. That suits most people, since the parts that matter most (lid, control panel, side shelves) are well above the ground, but it will not keep the cart base fully dry.

Why we like it

  • Air vents, front click-close straps and an adjustable hem cord, per the listing
  • Splash-guard skirt along the bottom edge
  • 3-year limited warranty, per the listing
  • Listed for Weber, Char-Broil, JennAir, Cuisinart and Napoleon gas grills of this size

Key specifications

Model 73912
Fits Freestanding gas grills of about this size; listed for Weber, Char-Broil, JennAir, Cuisinart, Napoleon and others
Material Water-repellent fabric top, water-resistant backing, splash-guard skirt; denier not stated
Dimensions 58 x 24 x 48 inches (L x D x H)
Vents Yes, air vents
Straps/closure Click-close front straps, elastic hem cord with toggles, padded handles
Warranty 3-year limited
Care Not stated

Why we recommend it

For owners of a full-size grill without a maker-made cover, the Veranda has every feature that keeps a cover on in wind and lets damp air out, and the warranty is as long as the brand-name covers below.

Skip it if your grill is much narrower than 58 inches: an oversized cover catches wind and pools water on the slack fabric, so buy a closer size from the same range.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Vents, buckle straps and a drawstring hem
  • Splash skirt protects the lower edge
  • 3-year limited warranty

Cons

  • Not designed to cover wheels and legs entirely
  • Denier and care instructions not stated
  • Earth-tone colors rather than black

2. Weber Premium Grill Cover for Spirit – Cut for the Grill

Best for Weber SpiritWeber® Premium Outdoor Grill Cover for Select Spirit Gas Grills

Weber’s Spirit line is one of the most common gas grills on American patios, and this is the cover Weber makes for it. Model 7139 fits Spirit 400 series 4-burner grills made since 2025, Spirit and Spirit II 3-burner grills made from 2016 to 2024, and 2-burner Spirits with side-mounted controls made before 2016. Weber publishes the fit by model and year because the Spirit’s shape has changed over time, so check the model number on your grill’s data plate before ordering. If you have a 2-burner Spirit II from 2016 to 2024, or a 2- or 3-burner Spirit made since 2025, this is not your cover; Weber sells a smaller one for those.

Weber describes the fabric as breathable and water resistant, with UV inhibitors to slow fading, and fits fastening straps to hold it on in wind. It does not give a denier or say whether the cover has vents; the breathability is in the fabric itself. Weber says to spot clean it only, which means no washing machine and no pressure washer.

The reason to buy the maker’s cover is fit. A cover cut for the grill reaches down over the control panel without dragging on the deck, so rain runs off rather than pooling, and the straps line up with the grill’s legs. Weber backs it with a 3-year limited warranty.

Why we like it

  • Made by Weber for named Spirit models and years
  • Breathable, water-resistant fabric with UV inhibitors, per Weber
  • Fastening straps for windy weather
  • 3-year limited warranty

Key specifications

Model 7139
Fits Spirit 400 series 4-burner (2025 and later); Spirit and Spirit II 3-burner (2016–2024); Spirit 2-burner with side controls (before 2016)
Material Breathable, water-resistant fabric with UV inhibitors; type and denier not stated
Dimensions Not stated; check your model
Vents Not stated
Straps/closure Fastening straps
Warranty 3-year limited
Care Spot clean only

Why we recommend it

If you own one of the Spirit grills on Weber’s fit list, this is the safest buy: correct shape, straps where they belong and a 3-year warranty.

Skip it if your Spirit is a 2-burner from 2016 to 2024, or a 2- or 3-burner made since 2025; Weber sells a different cover for those.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Exact fit for named Spirit grills
  • UV inhibitors and fastening straps
  • 3-year limited warranty

Cons

  • Fits only certain Spirit models and years
  • No denier or vent details published
  • Spot clean only

3. Broil King 58-inch Premium Grill Cover – Thick Fabric, Mesh Vents

Heaviest fabric listedBroil King 68487 58" Premium Grill Cover

Broil King is one of the few makers that names its cover fabric in detail. The 68487 Premium cover is water-resistant PVC over a heavy woven 900-denier polyester backing, which is the heaviest fabric spec among the covers in this guide. Denier measures the thickness of the yarn, and a heavier backing generally stands up better to abrasion against grill corners and to being pulled on and off every week, though no maker publishes a figure for how long its cover lasts.

It is built around moisture as much as rain. Broil King adds mesh venting for airflow, which matters in a humid climate where a sealed cover can trap damp air against the grill, and hook-and-loop closures to snug the fit. Heavy-duty molded rubber handles make it easier to lift off.

The fit list is specific: Baron S 490 and 440 PRO IR, Baron 490, 440 and 420 PRO, Crown 420 PRO, Crown S 490 and 440 PRO, Crown 420 and 410, and Signet 390 and 320, in both propane and natural gas versions. If your Broil King is not on that list, Broil King sells other sizes; the 51-, 63-, 64- and 76-inch covers are listed on Amazon too. Broil King does not state a warranty or care instructions on the listing.

Why we like it

  • PVC over 900-denier woven polyester, per Broil King
  • Mesh vents for airflow
  • Hook-and-loop closures and molded rubber handles
  • Published fit list by Broil King model

Key specifications

Model 68487
Fits Broil King Baron, Crown and Signet models named in the listing
Material Water-resistant PVC with 900-denier woven polyester backing
Dimensions 58 inches; depth and height not stated
Vents Yes, mesh venting
Straps/closure Hook-and-loop closures, molded rubber handles
Warranty Not stated
Care Not stated

Why we recommend it

Broil King owners with a grill on the fit list get the heaviest stated fabric here plus vents, which suits a grill that lives outside year-round.

Skip it if you want a cover with buckle straps for windy yards; this one relies on hook-and-loop closures.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • 900-denier backing, the heaviest stated here
  • Mesh vents
  • Rubber handles for lifting

Cons

  • Made for Broil King models
  • No warranty or care details on the listing
  • Depth and height not published

4. Napoleon Grill Cover for Rogue 425 – Vents, Buckles and Hanging Loops

Best for NapoleonNapoleon Grill Cover for Rogue 425 Series - Black

Napoleon makes a cover for each of its grill lines, and the Rogue 425 cover (model 61427) is the one for its popular mid-size gas grill. Napoleon describes it as fitting medium-large barbecues including the Rogue 425 series, so it can suit other grills of similar size, but the maker publishes no measurements in the listing; check Napoleon’s sizing for your grill before ordering one for a different brand.

Its feature list is the most complete of the maker-made covers. Napoleon lists improved UV inhibitors so the fabric does not fade or crack, air vents, a hook-and-loop closure, adjustable buckled straps and built-in hanging loops so the cover can hang off the ground when it is off the grill. That last detail matters more than it sounds: a cover dropped in a heap on a wet deck goes back on wet, and a damp cover is what mildews.

Napoleon backs it with a 3-year limited warranty. It does not state the fabric type or denier, or give care instructions, in the listing. If you own a larger Napoleon, the same style of cover is sold for the Prestige 500 and Prestige PRO 500 (model 61500) and the PRO 665.

Why we like it

  • Air vents plus buckled straps and a hook-and-loop closure
  • UV inhibitors to resist fading and cracking, per Napoleon
  • Hanging loops for storing the cover off the ground
  • 3-year limited warranty

Key specifications

Dimensions Not stated in the listing
Vents Yes, air vents
Straps/closure Adjustable buckled straps, hook-and-loop closure, hanging loops
Warranty 3-year limited
Care Not stated

Why we recommend it

Rogue 425 owners get the right shape and every feature on our list, from vents to buckles, with a 3-year warranty behind it.

Skip it if you own a different brand and cannot confirm the measurements; without published dimensions, a universal cover sold by size is the safer bet.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Vents, buckles and hook-and-loop closure
  • Hanging loops for storage
  • 3-year limited warranty

Cons

  • No dimensions in the listing
  • Fabric type and care not stated

5. Unicook 55-inch Grill Cover – Universal Fit You Can Hose Off

Easiest to cleanUnicook 55 Inch Grill Cover for Outdoor Grill

Unicook sells covers by size rather than by grill, and this 55-inch model is the one most mid-size gas grill owners will look at. It measures 55 inches wide, 23 inches deep and 42 inches high, and Unicook says it fits most 3- to 4-burner grills from 47 to 53 inches wide, naming Weber Spirit and Genesis, Char-Broil, Nexgrill, Monument, Kenmore, Napoleon and others. Unicook itself tells you to measure your grill before buying, which is the right advice for any universal cover.

The fabric is a high-density, fade-resistant material with a vinyl coating, which Unicook says resists water, UV, tearing and cold cracking; it does not give a denier. There are large covered mesh vents on both sides, which Unicook says also help steady the cover in wind by evening out air pressure, plus straps and fabric handles that double as hanging loops.

Care is the simplest here: Unicook says to hose the cover off and let it dry in the sun. It also reminds owners to let the grill cool completely before covering it, which applies to every cover on this page. No warranty is stated on the listing.

Why we like it

  • Published dimensions and a stated fit range of 47 to 53 inches
  • Large mesh vents on both sides
  • Vinyl-coated, fade-resistant fabric, per Unicook
  • Hose clean and air dry

Key specifications

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Clear dimensions and fit range

6. Weber Premium Grill Cover for Genesis 300 – Made for the Bigger Weber

Best for Weber GenesisWeber® Premium Outdoor Grill Cover for Select Genesis® Gas Grills

Owners of a Weber Genesis 300 series grill with three main burners should buy this cover (model 7757) rather than a Spirit cover or a universal one. Weber designed it for those models, and the Genesis is bigger and boxier than the Spirit, with larger side tables, so a cover sized for something else will either strain at the corners or sag.

Weber describes water-resistant fabric that stands up to water damage and resists tearing, fading and cracking, with fastening straps to keep it on in strong wind. It is lightweight, so taking it off before a cook is quick. As with the Spirit cover, Weber does not publish a denier, dimensions or a vent detail, and asks owners to spot clean only.

The warranty is spelled out: three years from the original date of purchase against defects in material and workmanship, limited to the original purchaser and excluding normal wear. Owners of a 4-burner Genesis 400 series need Weber’s separate 400 cover.

Why we like it

  • Made by Weber for Genesis 300 series 3-burner grills
  • Resists tearing, fading and cracking, per Weber
  • Fastening straps
  • 3-year limited warranty against defects

Key specifications

Model 7757
Fits Weber Genesis 300 series with 3 main burners
Material Water-resistant fabric; type and denier not stated
Dimensions Not stated
Vents Not stated
Straps/closure Fastening straps
Warranty 3-year limited, original purchaser, excludes normal wear
Care Spot clean only

Why we recommend it

It is the correct cover for a current Genesis 300, with Weber’s warranty and straps, and it saves guessing on a large, expensive grill.

Skip it if your Genesis is an older Genesis II; check Weber’s fit list, since the shapes differ between generations.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Cut for Genesis 300 grills
  • Clear warranty terms
  • Lightweight and strapped

Cons

  • Narrow fit list
  • No dimensions, denier or vent details

7. Char-Broil Performance Grill Cover, 4-Burner Large – Sealed Seams, Generous Size

Best for large grillsCharbroil Performance Grill Cover

Char-Broil’s Performance cover is made for its own 3- and 4-burner gas grills, but Char-Broil sizes it generously enough to fit large charcoal grills and smokers up to 62 inches wide. It measures 62 inches wide, 42 inches high and 24 inches deep, which makes it one of the few covers here that will handle a wide grill with two side shelves.

Char-Broil gives a fabric thickness rather than a denier: 18 mil polyester with a sun-fade protective liner. The seams are sealed for water resistance, and the fabric has UV protection for fade resistance. The listing does not mention vents, straps or a warranty, so in a windy spot you may need to tie the corners to the grill legs yourself.

For owners of smaller 2- and 3-burner Char-Broil grills, the same Performance range comes in a medium size (52 by 40 by 23 inches, model CB1250011P6) with longer side straps and a list of compatible Char-Broil model numbers; that one says to clean it with soap and warm water.

Why we like it

  • Fits grills up to 62 inches wide, per Char-Broil
  • 18 mil polyester with a sun-fade protective liner
  • Sealed seams for water resistance

Key specifications

Why we recommend it

It suits a wide Char-Broil or other large grill that standard 55- and 58-inch covers will not reach around.

Skip it if your yard is windy; no straps or vents are listed.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Large 62-inch size
  • Sealed seams and sun-fade liner
  • Medium size available for smaller Char-Broils

Cons

8. Weber Bonnet Cover for Q 2800N+ – For the Portable Gas Grill

Best for a portable grillWeber® Bonnet Cover for Q® 2800N Grills

Not every gas grill is a cart model. Weber’s Q series is a common choice for small patios, balconies and tailgates, and the current Q 2800N+ has its own cover. This is a bonnet-style cover (model 3400232) that fits over the grill body rather than draping to the ground, and it is the only cover in this guide made from recycled material: Weber says 100% recycled PET plastic, excluding the fasteners.

Weber lists UV-inhibiting fabric to resist fading, weather-resistant material, a lightweight design and two drawstring pulls to cinch it in place. It is backed by a 3-year warranty. Weber does not list vents or care instructions.

The fit is narrow on purpose. It is listed for the Q 2800N+ gas grill only, so owners of older Q 1000, Q 2000 or Q 3000 models should look for the cover Weber lists for their grill rather than assume this one will work.

Why we like it

  • Made by Weber for the Q 2800N+
  • 100% recycled PET fabric, excluding fasteners, per Weber
  • Two drawstring pulls for a snug fit
  • 3-year warranty

Key specifications

Model 3400232

Why we recommend it

If you grill on a Q 2800N+, it is the maker’s own cover, light enough to pack, with Weber’s 3-year warranty.

Skip it if you own any other Q model; it is listed for the Q 2800N+ only.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Maker-made for the Q 2800N+
  • Recycled PET fabric
  • 3-year warranty

Cons

  • Fits one grill model
  • Covers the grill body only, not a stand

How to choose a gas grill cover

A restaurant kitchen protects its outdoor equipment the same way it protects anything else that costs money to replace: keep water out of the parts that rust, keep the sun off the parts that crack, and do not make the daily routine any harder than it needs to be. For a gas grill cover, that comes down to five things.

Fit by model comes first

A cover that is too small will not reach the control panel, which is the part you most want dry, and it strains at the seams. A cover that is too big flaps in wind, catches water in its folds and drags on the ground, where it wicks moisture up. If your grill maker sells a cover for your model, that is the safest choice. If not, measure the grill with the lid closed: width including both side shelves, depth front to back, and height from the ground to the top of the lid. Pick a universal cover a little larger than those numbers, not a lot larger.

Fabric: what the maker actually states

Most listings say “heavy duty” and stop there. The useful ones name the material: Broil King’s PVC on 900-denier polyester, Char-Broil’s 18 mil polyester, Unicook’s vinyl-coated fabric, Weber’s recycled PET on the Q bonnet. Denier is yarn thickness, and mil is coating or sheet thickness in thousandths of an inch, so the two numbers are not directly comparable. Higher figures generally mean stiffer, heavier fabric, which resists abrasion but is harder to handle. Treat any number as a guide, not a promise of years outdoors.

Vents and breathability

A cover keeps rain off, but it can also hold humid air against the grill. In a climate like Houston’s, where nights are warm and damp for much of the year, that trapped moisture is what spots chrome and rusts screws. Covers with mesh vents (Classic Accessories, Broil King, Napoleon, Unicook) let air move through. Weber relies on breathable fabric instead. Either way, do not cover a grill that is wet, and take the cover off to air the grill on dry, sunny days.

A whole chicken cooking on a grill grate outdoors with snow on the ground
Grills left outside face every season, which is what a cover is for.

UV resistance

Sun breaks down fabric faster than rain does. Fading is the first sign, then stiffness and cracking at the folds. Every cover in this guide claims UV inhibitors, a sun-fade liner or fade-resistant fabric, but none publishes a test figure, so expect any cover in full sun to wear out sooner than one under a roof or a tree.

Straps, buckles and handles

Wind is what takes most covers off a grill. Buckled straps around the legs (Classic Accessories, Napoleon) hold best; hook-and-loop tabs and drawstrings help; a cover with nothing at all needs tying down in an exposed yard. Handles and hanging loops make the cover easier to lift off and hang up, which means you are more likely to put it back on.

Warranty and care

Weber, Napoleon and Classic Accessories each state a 3-year limited warranty on the covers here. Broil King, Char-Broil and Unicook do not state one on their listings. Care varies too: Weber says spot clean only, Unicook says hose it off. Whatever the cover, let it dry before you fold it.

How we chose these eight covers

We started from the brands a gas grill owner is most likely to own (Weber, Napoleon, Broil King, Char-Broil) and from the universal cover makers with the widest size ranges and the clearest listings (Classic Accessories and Unicook). We checked every cover with Amazon’s product data for stock on the day of writing and kept only those listed as in stock. Specifications come from each maker’s own Amazon listing, and where a listing leaves something out we say “Not stated” rather than guess.

We left out covers sold by sellers with no identifiable brand, model-specific “compatible” covers from sellers who publish no fabric details of their own, covers that were out of stock or marked as low stock when we checked, and near-duplicate sizes of the same cover. We have not put these covers on our own grills; this guide is built from the makers’ specifications and from what a kitchen looks for in equipment that lives outdoors.

Gas grill cover questions, answered

Do you really need a cover for a gas grill?

If the grill lives outside without a roof over it, yes, it is worth having. A cover keeps rain off the controls and igniter, keeps debris and insects out of the burners, and slows sun damage to plastic handles and side shelves. It is not a substitute for cleaning the grill and keeping the grease tray empty.

Should you cover a grill right after cooking?

No. Let the grill cool completely first. Unicook says so in its listing, and a cover dropped onto a hot lid can melt or scorch. Burn off the grates, turn off the gas, let it cool, then cover it.

Is a universal cover as good as the maker’s cover?

It can be, if it is the right size. Maker-made covers are cut for the grill’s exact shape, so they fit without guesswork. A universal cover like the Classic Accessories Veranda or the Unicook 55-inch is a good choice when your grill’s maker does not sell one, as long as you measure first.

How should you read gas grill cover reviews?

Look for reviews from owners of your grill or one the same size, because most complaints about covers come down to fit. Look for how long the reviewer has had the cover outdoors, and whether their grill sits in full sun. A cover that has lasted one mild season under a tree tells you little about a summer on an open patio.

Can a cover cause rust?

It can trap moisture if the grill goes under it wet or the cover has no way to breathe. Choose a cover with vents or breathable fabric, cover only a dry grill, and lift the cover off now and then in humid weather to let it air out.

Our last word on grill covers

Burger patties and green vegetables cooking side by side on a grill grate
A dry, rust-free grate is the reason to cover the grill between cooks.

Buy the cover your grill maker sells for your model if there is one: Weber for the Spirit, Genesis and Q, Napoleon for the Rogue, Broil King for its own grills. If not, the Classic Accessories Veranda has the vents, buckle straps and warranty to stand in, and the Unicook 55-inch is the simple, hose-clean choice for a mid-size grill. Measure first, cover only a cool, dry grill, and keep the straps fastened.
