Grilling & Outdoor Cooking

One Box, Two Jobs: The Best Indoor Grill and Air Fryer

Eight grill and air fryer combos from Ninja, George Foreman, Gourmia, Cuisinart and more, compared on heat, basket size, thermometers and warranty.

Two steaks and stalks of broccolini cooking on a grill grate
Steaks and broccolini over high heat.

An indoor grill and an air fryer do the same basic thing: they blast food with high heat so the outside browns before the inside dries out. Put them in one machine and you get a single appliance that can sear a skirt steak for tacos on Monday and crisp a batch of chicken wings on Tuesday, with one plug and one spot on the counter. In a restaurant kitchen, anything that takes two jobs off the line without doing either badly is welcome, and the same logic applies at home.

This guide covers only combination units, machines that grill and air fry in one body. We looked at hooded grill-and-air-fryer units from Ninja, George Foreman, Gourmia, Candy and NutriChef, and one oven-style combo from Cuisinart. If you only want a grill, start with our best indoor grill guide; if you only want an air fryer, see our best air fryer guide.

Quick verdict: which grill and air fryer combo to buy

For most kitchens the Ninja Foodi Smart XL 6-in-1 is the best indoor grill and air fryer: a 500°F grate, a built-in thermometer that tells you when meat is done, and dishwasher-safe parts. If you already own a meat thermometer, the Ninja Foodi 5-in-1 XL does the same grilling and air frying for less. Want a longer warranty and a slow-cook mode? The George Foreman Beyond Grill has three years of cover in its listing.

Below, a quick comparison of the five standouts, then a full review of all eight.

Our picks for the best indoor grill and air fryer

Eight combination units: three Ninjas at different sizes and price tiers, a George Foreman with slow cook, a Gourmia that grills with the lid open, an oven-style Cuisinart, and two mid-size units from Candy and NutriChef with built-in thermometers.

1. Ninja Foodi Smart XL 6-in-1 Indoor Grill and Air Fryer – A Thermometer That Calls Doneness

Best overallNinja® Foodi® Smart XL 6-in-1 Indoor Grill & Air Fryer

This is the machine most people picture when they search for an indoor grill and air fryer in one box. It is a hooded countertop unit: a heating element and fan sit in the lid, a ceramic-coated grill grate sits in a removable pot, and the same fan that sears food on the grate also drives the air-fry setting when you swap the grate for the 4-quart crisper basket. Ninja rates both the grate and the circulating air at 500°F and lists six functions: grill, air crisp, roast, bake, broil and dehydrate.

What separates it from the plainer Ninja below is the Foodi Smart Thermometer. You plug the probe into the unit, push it into a steak or chicken breast, choose one of four protein settings and one of nine doneness levels, and the grill tells you when the food is ready. For anyone who has cut into too many chicken breasts to check them, that is the feature worth paying for. Ninja says the 9 by 12-inch grate holds up to six steaks or 24 hot dogs, which is enough for a family dinner of carne asada or a tray of chicken thighs for tacos.

Ninja lists the grate, crisper basket and cooking pot as dishwasher safe, and a splatter shield in the lid and a cool-air zone help keep smoke down, according to the maker. The listing calls this the updated design of the Smart XL Grill, with the same functions as the earlier model. It carries a one-year limited warranty.

Why we like it

  • Built-in thermometer with 4 protein settings and 9 doneness levels
  • 500°F grill grate and 500°F circulating air
  • 9 x 12-inch grate fits up to 6 steaks, per Ninja
  • Grate, basket and pot listed as dishwasher safe
  • Six functions, including dehydrate

Key specifications

Model DG551
Functions Grill, air crisp, roast, bake, broil, dehydrate
Max temperature 500°F
Air fry capacity 4 qt crisper basket (4 qt cooking pot)
Grill surface 9 x 12 in grate
Food thermometer Included (Foodi Smart Thermometer)
Dishwasher-safe parts Grate, crisper basket, cooking pot
Warranty 1-year limited

Why we recommend it

Families who grill meat often and want to stop guessing at doneness. The thermometer is the difference between this and the cheaper Ninja, and it earns its place on chicken and pork.

Skip it if you mostly air fry fries and wings; the 4-quart basket is modest next to a dedicated air fryer, and the thermometer adds nothing there.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Thermometer removes the guesswork on meat
  • Large grate for a hooded grill
  • Ceramic-coated parts go in the dishwasher
  • One appliance for grilling and air frying

Cons

  • Air-fry basket is only 4 quarts
  • Tall hood needs clearance under cabinets
  • One-year warranty only

2. Ninja Foodi 5-in-1 XL Indoor Grill and Air Fryer – The Plain Ninja Without the Probe

Simplest NinjaNinja® Foodi® 5-in-1 XL Indoor Grill & Air Fryer

The AG301 is the original Foodi grill design and the simplest way into Ninja’s combo range. It uses the same idea as the Smart XL: a hood with a fan and element, a 500°F grill grate and 500°F circulating air, which Ninja calls Cyclonic Grilling and Surround Searing. You get five functions, grill, air crisp, roast, bake and dehydrate, but no broil setting and no thermometer.

The grate is a 10 by 10-inch square, a little smaller than the Smart XL’s, and the cooking pot is 6 quarts, which helps when you roast a small chicken or a tray of vegetables. The crisper basket is 4 quarts. Ninja says it takes frozen steaks, chicken breasts and burgers to char-grilled in under 25 minutes without thawing, which is useful on the nights you forgot to pull meat from the freezer.

Ninja describes the grill grate, crisper basket and cooking pot as ceramic-coated, PTFE and PFOA-free, and dishwasher safe. The listing adds a practical note: unplug it and leave the hood open after cooking so it cools down faster. Warranty is one year, limited.

Why we like it

  • Same 500°F grate and air system as the costlier Ninjas
  • 6-quart cooking pot for roasting
  • Ceramic-coated, PTFE/PFOA-free parts, per Ninja
  • Frozen to grilled in under 25 minutes, per Ninja

Key specifications

Air fry capacity 4 qt crisper basket (6 qt cooking pot)
Grill surface 10 x 10 in grate
Food thermometer Not included
Dishwasher-safe parts Grate, crisper basket, cooking pot
Warranty 1-year limited

Why we recommend it

Cooks who already own an instant-read thermometer and want the proven Ninja grill-and-air-fry design without paying for the built-in probe.

Skip it if you want a broil setting or the thermometer; the Smart XL above has both.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Proven design with years on the market
  • Bigger cooking pot than the Smart XL
  • Simple controls
  • Dishwasher-safe coated parts

Cons

  • No built-in thermometer
  • No broil function

3. George Foreman Beyond Grill 7-in-1 Indoor Grill with Air Fry – Seven Modes and Three Years of Cover

Longest warrantyGeorge Foreman Beyond Grill™ 7-in-1 Electric Indoor Grill with Air Fry Technology

George Foreman built its name on sloped contact grills, but the Beyond Grill is a hooded grill-and-air-fryer in the same mold as the Ninjas. The listing gives it seven functions: grill, air fry, roast, bake, slow cook, broil and keep warm. Slow cook is unusual on a combo grill, and it means the pot can hold a pot of beans or a braise on a day you are not grilling.

The maker calls its heating Intelligrill Technology, with dual heating and airflow it says cooks 65 percent faster, and claims a 500°F sear that means you do not have to flip food. It also says frozen burgers go from freezer to grilled in about 22 minutes. The removable grill plate, in what George Foreman calls George Tough nonstick, and the cooking pot are listed as dishwasher safe.

The Amazon listing does not state the air-fry capacity or grill area. Walmart’s listing for the closely related MCAFD800DX gives 6 quarts and 90 square inches, but also lists 400°F and 1,200 watts, which does not match the 500°F searing claim on Amazon, so check the box before relying on those numbers. The warranty field on the Amazon listing reads 3 year limited, the longest on this page.

Why we like it

  • Seven functions, including slow cook and keep warm
  • 500°F searing, per the listing
  • Grill plate and pot listed as dishwasher safe
  • 3-year limited warranty in the listing

Key specifications

Model MCAFD800D
Functions Grill, air fry, roast, bake, slow cook, broil, keep warm
Max temperature 500°F searing (listing)
Air fry capacity Not stated (Walmart lists 6 qt for MCAFD800DX)
Grill surface Not stated (Walmart lists 90 sq in)
Food thermometer Not stated
Dishwasher-safe parts Grill plate, cooking pot
Warranty 3-year limited

Why we recommend it

Anyone who wants one countertop pot to grill, air fry and slow cook, and who values a longer warranty over the last word in grilling heat.

Skip it if you need hard numbers on capacity before you buy; the Amazon listing leaves them out and the retailer figures conflict.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Longest warranty here
  • Slow-cook mode adds a real third use
  • Dishwasher-safe plate and pot
  • Well-known grill maker

Cons

  • Capacity not stated on Amazon
  • Retailer temperature figures conflict
  • No thermometer mentioned

4. Gourmia 5-in-1 Smokeless Grill and Air Fryer with Glass Lid – Grill With the Lid Open

Open-lid grillingGourmia Electric Smokeless Grill & Air Fryer - 5-in-1 with Glass Lid

Most combo grills only grill with the hood shut. The Gourmia GGA2120A works more like a tabletop grill: the listing says you can grill with the glass lid open or closed, so you can turn peppers, onions and steak strips as you would on a plancha, and watch through the glass when the lid is down. A smoke extractor, which Gourmia says helps reduce smoke, sits under the grill.

Gourmia gives it five functions: grill, air fry, bake, roast and dehydrate. Grilling runs on four heat settings, Low, Medium, High and Max, from 400°F up to 510°F, the highest top figure on this page, and the full range across all functions is 170°F to 510°F. The air-fry setting uses an included basket with the lid closed. The listing gives the size as 6 quarts.

Digital controls show time and temperature, with preheat and turn reminders. The grill grate, air-fry basket, drip tray and drip tray cover can go in the dishwasher, according to the listing. Warranty is one year.

Why we like it

  • Grills with the lid open or closed
  • Up to 510°F on the Max grill setting
  • Smoke extractor under the grate
  • Glass lid to watch food
  • Grate, basket and drip tray listed as dishwasher safe

Key specifications

Max temperature 510°F
Air fry capacity 6 qt (listing size)
Grill surface Not stated
Food thermometer Not included
Dishwasher-safe parts Grill grate, air-fry basket, drip tray, drip tray cover
Warranty 1 year

Why we recommend it

Cooks who like to work the food on the grill, for fajita-style meat and vegetables or Korean barbecue, and want an air fryer in the same unit.

Skip it if you want hands-off grilling with a probe; the Ninja Smart XL does that better.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Open grilling like a tabletop griddle
  • Highest stated temperature here
  • Clear lid
  • Most removable parts dishwasher safe

Cons

  • Grill area not stated
  • Open-lid grilling makes more smoke than a closed hood
  • One-year warranty

5. Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven with Grill – An Oven That Also Grills and Air Fries

Oven-style comboCuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven with Grill

If you would rather have one box that toasts, bakes, air fries and grills, the Cuisinart TOA-70 is the oven-shaped answer. The listing gives eight functions: air fry, toast, convection bake, bake, convection broil, broil, grill and warm, at 1,800 watts and from Warm up to 450°F. Grilling happens on an included ceramic nonstick reversible grill and griddle plate, so one side gives you grill marks and the other a flat griddle.

Capacity is the big advantage over the hooded grills. Cuisinart says it toasts six slices, air fries 3 pounds of chicken wings, bakes a 12-inch pizza or roasts a 4-pound chicken. The interior is stainless steel, and it comes with an oven rack, baking pan that doubles as a drip tray, and air-fry basket. Controls are dials with a 60-minute timer and auto shutoff.

This is the white version of the same TOA-70 we list in black stainless in our best toaster oven guide. We include it here because it is the only oven-style grill-and-air-fryer combo from a major maker that was in stock when we checked; the colour is different, the machine is the same. Cuisinart covers it with a limited three-year warranty.

Why we like it

  • Eight functions, including toast and grill
  • Fits a 12-inch pizza or a 4-lb chicken, per Cuisinart
  • Reversible grill and griddle plate included
  • Limited 3-year warranty

Key specifications

Model TOA-70W
Functions Air fry, toast, convection bake, bake, convection broil, broil, grill, warm
Max temperature 450°F
Air fry capacity 3 lb chicken wings (Cuisinart)
Grill surface Reversible grill/griddle plate, size not stated
Food thermometer Not included
Dishwasher-safe parts Not stated
Warranty Limited 3-year

Why we recommend it

Small kitchens that want one appliance to replace a toaster, an air fryer and a grill pan, and households that cook in bigger batches than a 4-quart basket allows.

Skip it if you want deep, branded grill marks at 500°F; an oven grill plate tops out at 450°F and browns more gently than a hooded grill.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Largest capacity on this page
  • Toasts and bakes as well
  • Three-year warranty
  • Simple dial controls

Cons

  • Lower top temperature than the hooded grills
  • Takes more counter space
  • Dishwasher safety of parts not stated

6. Ninja Foodi Smart 5-in-1 Indoor Grill and Air Fryer – Thermometer in a 4-Quart Unit

Newest NinjaNinja® Foodi® Smart 5-in-1 Indoor Grill & 4-qt Air Fryer

The LG451BK is the newest Ninja combo grill on Amazon, first listed in May 2026. It pairs the 500°F Cyclonic Grilling system with the Foodi Smart Thermometer, the same probe as the Smart XL, but in a 5-in-1 body with grill, air crisp, bake, roast and dehydrate. There is no broil setting.

The listing describes a 4-quart air-fry crisper basket and includes a grill grate, basket, pot and a grill shield. Ninja does not give the grate size in the listing, so if you regularly cook for four or more, measure your usual cut against the Smart XL’s 9 by 12-inch grate before choosing. Ninja says it goes from frozen to char-grilled in 25 minutes.

Removable nonstick parts are listed as dishwasher safe. The Amazon listing does not state a warranty term; Ninja’s other grills on this page carry one year, but check the box for this model.

Why we like it

  • Built-in Foodi Smart Thermometer
  • 500°F Cyclonic Grilling
  • Five functions in a 4-quart unit
  • Removable parts listed as dishwasher safe

7. Candy 7-in-1 Indoor Grill and Air Fryer – A Window on the Lid

Watch it cookCandy Indoor Grill & Air Fryer with Ceramic Accessories

Candy sells this 5.2-quart grill and air fryer with something the hooded Ninjas lack: an oversized viewing window in the lid, so you can check browning without letting heat and smoke out. The listing says it reaches 500°F, runs at 1,500 watts and offers seven functions set from one dial, including grill, air fry, roast, broil and dehydrate, with cooking times up to 540 minutes.

Candy describes a sealed lid and 360° airflow with four heat levels, and says the sealed lid keeps smoke and smell down. A smart thermometer is included, according to the title. It comes with six accessories that Candy says have a ceramic coating for easy wipe-clean use.

The listing does not give the grill area, and it does not say whether the accessories are dishwasher safe or state a warranty term. It is a sensible pick if seeing the food matters to you, but it has less maker documentation than the Ninja and Cuisinart picks.

Why we like it

  • Large viewing window in the lid
  • 500°F maximum
  • Smart thermometer included
  • Seven functions on one dial
  • 5.2-quart capacity

Key specifications

Model CAF-502-US
Functions Grill, air fry, roast, broil, dehydrate and more (7)
Max temperature 500°F
Air fry capacity 5.2 qt
Grill surface Not stated

Dishwasher-safe parts Not stated
Warranty Not stated in the listing

Why we recommend it

Cooks who like to watch food brown and want a thermometer, in a mid-size unit.

Skip it if you want clear warranty and cleaning details up front; the listing is thin on both.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • See the food without lifting the lid
  • Thermometer in the box
  • Larger basket than the Ninjas

Cons

  • Warranty not stated
  • Dishwasher safety not stated
  • Less maker detail than the big names

8. NutriChef 7-in-1 Smart Indoor Grill and Air Fryer – Low-Heat Range and a Probe

Widest temperature rangeNutriChef Indoor Smokeless Grill - Smart Grill & Air Fryer with 7 Cooking Functions - 6L Capacity - Includes Smart Thermometer - Precise Temperature Control - Non-Stick Removable Grill Plates

NutriChef’s combo is a 6-liter (about 6.3-quart) hooded grill and air fryer with seven functions: grill, air fry, roast, bake, broil, BBQ and dehydrate. Its temperature range runs from 100°F to 450°F, the lowest bottom figure here, which suits slow dehydrating and keeping food warm. A smart thermometer is included.

The grill plates are non-stick and lift out for washing, and NutriChef says its smoke control system and hot-air circulation make it virtually smokeless; treat that as the maker’s claim. The listing gives its size as 16.14 by 15.75 by 10.55 inches, which makes it lower than most hooded units.

This listing is the newer NCDHKNJ01.5 version, first listed in February 2026, and states a one-year warranty. The listing does not say whether the plates are dishwasher safe, and NutriChef does not publish the grill area.

Why we like it

  • 100°F to 450°F range
  • Smart thermometer included
  • Seven functions
  • Low 10.55-inch height, per the listing
  • 1-year warranty stated

Key specifications

Model NCDHKNJ01.5
Functions Grill, air fry, roast, bake, broil, BBQ, dehydrate
Max temperature 450°F
Air fry capacity 6 L (about 6.3 qt)
Grill surface Not stated
Food thermometer Included
Dishwasher-safe parts Not stated
Warranty 1 year

Why we recommend it

Anyone who wants a thermometer and a low-temperature range for dehydrating at a lower height than most hooded grills.

Skip it if you want the 500°F heat of the Ninjas or a brand with long-published support material.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Thermometer included
  • Widest low-temperature range
  • Squat body fits under cabinets

Cons

  • Tops out at 450°F
  • Grill area and dishwasher safety not stated
  • Smoke claims are the maker’s own

How a grill and air fryer combo works

Every hooded unit on this page works the same way. A heating element and a fan sit in the lid. When you grill, the grate sits in the pot and heats from below, which makes the grill marks, while the fan blows hot air over the top of the food, so you rarely need to flip it. When you air fry, you swap the grate for a perforated basket and the same fan circulates hot air all around the food. Ninja calls this Cyclonic Grilling; George Foreman calls it Intelligrill. The idea is the same.

That shared design is the main trade-off. A dedicated air fryer usually has a larger basket than the 4 quarts in most of these units, and a dedicated open grill has more surface area. A combo saves space and money by giving you a bit less of each. If you cook for two to four people, that rarely matters. If you feed six every night, look at the larger units here or keep two machines.

How to choose an indoor grill and air fryer

Top temperature

Searing needs heat. The Ninjas and Candy reach 500°F and the Gourmia 510°F on its Max grill setting, according to their makers. The Cuisinart oven and the NutriChef top out at 450°F. For thin cuts like skirt or flank steak for fajitas, the higher number helps you brown the outside before the middle overcooks.

Air-fry basket size

Most hooded combos have a 4-quart crisper basket. That is fine for two or three portions of fries or a pound or two of wings. The Gourmia lists 6 quarts, the NutriChef 6 liters and the Candy 5.2 quarts. The Cuisinart oven holds the most: 3 pounds of wings, according to Cuisinart.

A built-in thermometer

Grilled chicken and pork have to reach a safe internal temperature: 165°F for poultry and 145°F for whole cuts of pork, beef and lamb with a three-minute rest, according to FoodSafety.gov. A probe that plugs into the grill, as on the Ninja Smart models, Candy and NutriChef, tells you when you get there. A separate instant-read thermometer does the same job on any machine.

Lid open or closed

Hooded units grill with the lid shut, which contains smoke and splatter. The Gourmia can also grill with its glass lid open, which lets you move food around as you would on a griddle. Open grilling gives you more control and more smoke.

A plate of breaded fried food with crinkle-cut fries
Crinkle-cut fries and breaded food, the usual air-fryer menu.

Cleaning and coatings

Look for parts the maker lists as dishwasher safe; grease cooks onto grates fast. Ninja says its grates, baskets and pots are ceramic-coated and dishwasher safe. George Foreman lists its grill plate and pot as dishwasher safe, and Gourmia its grate, basket and drip tray. Candy and NutriChef do not say. Whatever the coating, use wooden or silicone tools so you do not scratch it.

Warranty

Warranty is a fair guide to how long a maker expects a machine to last. On this page the Cuisinart and George Foreman listings give three years, Ninja’s older models and the Gourmia and NutriChef one year, and the Candy and the newest Ninja do not state a term.

Grilling Mexican food in a combo unit

A hooded grill handles most of what you would cook on a backyard grill for a taco night. Marinated skirt steak for carne asada, chicken thighs in achiote, and strips of pepper and onion for fajitas all fit on the grates here. Cut meat thin, pat it dry before it goes on, and let the grate preheat fully so you get marks rather than steam.

The air-fry side is useful for the extras: reheating tortilla chips, crisping taquitos or flautas, and roasting jalapeños or tomatillos for salsa until the skins blister. Corn tortillas warm well on a grill grate for a few seconds a side.

How we picked these eight combos

We started with what a working kitchen asks of a grill: enough heat to sear, parts that come clean, and controls a tired cook can use. We then kept only machines that both grill and air fry in one body, made by identifiable appliance brands, and listed as in stock on Amazon in the United States when we checked. We left out every machine already chosen in our indoor grill, small indoor grill and air fryer guides, so this page adds new options. The Cuisinart TOA-70 is the one exception: it appears in black stainless in our toaster oven guide, and we list the white version here because no other major maker’s oven-style grill and air fryer was in stock.

Specifications come from the Amazon listings and, where it helped, other retailer listings, which we name in the text. We have not cooked with these machines, and we do not quote star ratings or review counts. We searched the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall database for each brand. We found no recall covering any of the eight models here. SharkNinja’s 2025 recall covers Ninja Foodi OP300-series pressure cookers, models OP300 through OP350CO, not the grills on this page. A Ninja Smart XL Pro grill and griddle and two PowerXL combos were left out because they were out of stock or listed as scarce, and the older Ninja Smart XL, model FG551, was left out as a near-duplicate of our top pick.

Grill and air fryer questions, answered

What is the best indoor grill with air fryer?

For most people, the Ninja Foodi Smart XL 6-in-1. It grills at 500°F, air fries in a 4-quart basket and has a built-in thermometer. The Ninja Foodi 5-in-1 XL is the same idea without the thermometer.

Can an indoor grill and air fryer replace a standalone air fryer?

For two to three people, usually yes. Most combos have a 4-quart basket, smaller than many standalone air fryers, so larger households may have to cook in batches.

Are grill and air fryer combos smokeless?

Makers use words like smokeless, low smoke or virtually smoke-free, but any grill makes some smoke when fat hits a hot surface. Trimming fat, using oils with a high smoke point and keeping the drip tray clean all help. Run the range hood.

Do you need to flip food in a grill and air fryer?

Often not. Hot air from the lid cooks the top while the grate marks the bottom. George Foreman says its Beyond Grill sears without flipping, and Ninja’s frozen-to-grilled claims assume a closed hood. For even marks on both sides, flip once.

What size grill and air fryer do I need?

Ninja says its 9 by 12-inch grate holds up to six steaks. For one or two people, a 4-quart unit is plenty; for a family of five or more, look at the XL models or the Cuisinart oven.

Our final word on grill and air fryer combos

Buy the Ninja Foodi Smart XL if you grill meat often and want the thermometer, the Ninja Foodi 5-in-1 XL if you do not, and the George Foreman Beyond Grill if you want a longer warranty and a slow cooker in the same pot. If you need a bigger air fryer or a dedicated grill, our best indoor grill, best small indoor grill and best air fryer guides cover single-purpose machines.
