Count the Pans, Not the Pieces: The Best Nonstick Pan Set

The best nonstick pan set for your stove: what each set really includes, PTFE vs ceramic vs hybrid, lids and oven limits, from T-fal, All-Clad, GreenPan.

A cook tipping sliced peppers from a black nonstick frying pan onto a plate with a red spatula, with burgundy pans behind
A matching set means the frying pan, pots and lids all work together.

A nonstick cookware set is the quickest way to fill an empty kitchen: frying pans, saucepans, a sauté pan and a big pot, all with matching lids and handles. It can also be the quickest way to fill a cupboard with pieces you rarely use. The number on the box counts every lid, and sometimes every spoon, so a “12-piece” set may hold only six pans.

In a restaurant kitchen, cookware is bought piece by piece for the job it does, and nonstick goes where it earns its place: eggs, fish, rice, sauces that like to catch. This guide applies the same thinking to sets. It explains what the piece counts really include, which coating and stovetop each set suits, and names nine nonstick sets worth buying, from a three-pan frying set to a full kitchen.

Julia’s earns a commission on purchases made through links on this page, at no cost to you. Recommendations are based on what a restaurant kitchen looks for in cookware, the makers’ own specifications and care guides, and published reviews we name.

Quick verdict: which nonstick pan set to buy

For most kitchens on gas or electric, the best nonstick pan set is the T-fal Ultimate Hard Anodized 12-piece set: two frying pans, three covered saucepans and a covered Dutch oven, oven safe to 400°F and dishwasher safe, from a maker that publishes clear care rules. If you cook on induction, choose the All-Clad HA1 13-piece set. For a ceramic set made without PTFE, buy the GreenPan Valencia Pro 11-piece. And if you only want the frying pans, the T-fal Experience three-pan set gives you 8, 10.25 and 12.5 inches, induction included.

The table below compares the five sets most cooks should look at first. All nine are reviewed in full after it.

Our picks for the best nonstick pan set

These nine sets cover PTFE, ceramic and hybrid surfaces, every common stovetop, and sizes from a three-pan frying set to fourteen pieces. Each pick lists exactly what is in the box, so you can count the pans rather than the pieces.

1. T-fal Ultimate Hard Anodized 12-Piece Set – The Essentials, Clearly Labeled

Best overallT-fal Ultimate Hard Anodized Nonstick Cookware Set 12 Piece

This set covers a home kitchen’s daily cooking without padding. You get an 8-inch and a 10-inch fry pan, 1-quart, 2-quart and 3-quart saucepans with lids, a 5-quart Dutch oven with a lid, a solid spoon and a slotted spatula. Count it as six pans, four lids and two tools: enough for eggs in the morning, rice and beans at night and a pot of soup on the weekend.

The bodies are hard-anodized aluminum with T-fal’s titanium nonstick interior, riveted silicone handles and vented tempered glass lids. Each pan has a Thermo-Spot, a ring that turns solid red when the pan is properly preheated, which helps you avoid the high heat that shortens a coating’s life. T-fal’s care sheet asks for low to medium heat, never an empty pan on a hot burner, and no cooking sprays, which can leave an invisible buildup.

T-fal rates the set for the oven up to 400°F, with the lids to 350°F, and for all stovetops except induction. The listing title marks it dishwasher safe, and it carries a limited lifetime warranty, though T-fal says high-heat damage is not covered.

Why we like it

  • Six useful pans, no filler pieces
  • Thermo-Spot preheat indicator on each pan
  • Vented glass lids on every saucepan and the Dutch oven
  • Oven safe to 400°F (lids 350°F), dishwasher safe

Key specifications

Why we recommend it

It is the set we would point a first apartment or a replacement kitchen toward: the pans most cooks use every week, a maker with published care rules, and a warranty. Nothing in the box is there just to raise the piece count.

Skip it if you cook on induction, or if you want a 12-inch frying pan, which this set does not include. Pair it with a single large pan from our best nonstick pans guide.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Practical mix of pans
  • Preheat indicator
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Limited lifetime warranty

2. All-Clad HA1 Nonstick 13-Piece Set – Full Kitchen, Induction Ready

Best for inductionAll-Clad HA1® Nonstick 13-Piece Pots & Pans Set

This is the largest PTFE set here and the one to buy if you cook on induction. All-Clad’s HA1 line is heavy-gauge hard-anodized aluminum with a stainless steel base bonded underneath; the steel base is what lets an aluminum pan work on an induction hob, and All-Clad says it delivers even heat.

The box holds 8-, 10- and 12-inch fry pans, 2-quart and 3-quart covered saucepans, a 4-quart covered sauté pan, a 4-quart covered soup pot and an 8-quart covered stockpot. That is eight pans and five tempered glass lids, including the 12-inch frying pan that most smaller sets leave out, and a stockpot big enough for a batch of pozole or a pot of beans.

All-Clad names the coating as a PTFE nonstick. It rates the cookware for the oven up to 500°F, the glass lids to 350°F, and any stovetop including induction. It is dishwasher safe, though All-Clad suggests washing with soap and a sponge and using silicone, nylon or wooden utensils to preserve the nonstick. The handles are double riveted stainless steel. It is designed in Pennsylvania and made in China.

Why we like it

  • Eight pans, including 8, 10 and 12-inch fry pans
  • Stainless steel base works on induction
  • Oven safe to 500°F (lids 350°F)
  • Includes an 8-quart stockpot

Key specifications

Model 11644905545
Coating PTFE nonstick
Base material Hard-anodized aluminum, stainless steel base
Size 13 pieces: 8″, 10″, 12″ fry pans; 2 and 3 qt saucepans; 4 qt sauté pan; 4 qt soup pot; 8 qt stockpot; 5 lids
Weight Not stated
Oven-safe to 500°F (lids 350°F)
Induction Yes
Dishwasher safe Yes

Why we recommend it

Choose it for an induction kitchen, or for a family that wants every common size, including a big frying pan and a big pot, in one purchase. The higher oven rating also makes it easier to finish dishes under heat.

Skip it if you have little storage. Eight pans and five lids need real cupboard space, and a nonstick stockpot does a job any plain pot can do.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Induction ready
  • Most complete set here
  • Includes a 12-inch fry pan
  • Dishwasher safe

Cons

  • Needs a lot of storage
  • Lids only to 350°F

3. GreenPan Valencia Pro 11-Piece Ceramic Set – Ceramic for Every Stove

Best ceramicGreenPan Valencia Pro 11 Piece Cookware Set Ceramic Nonstick Pots & Pans

GreenPan’s Valencia Pro is the ceramic line America’s Test Kitchen chose as the winner of its ceramic nonstick skillet review (for the 12-inch frypan), and this set puts the same construction across a kitchen’s worth of pans. The coating is GreenPan’s Thermolon ceramic, which the maker describes as diamond-reinforced, free of PFAS, and the first NSF-certified ceramic nonstick.

The set includes 8-, 9.5- and 11-inch frypans, 2-quart and 3-quart saucepans with lids, a 3-quart sauté pan with a lid, a 5-quart stockpot with a lid and an 11-inch grill pan with a lid. Three frying pans in close sizes is generous; the grill pan is the piece most kitchens will use least.

The bodies are hard-anodized aluminum with GreenPan’s induction base. GreenPan rates the set for all stovetops, the oven up to 600°F (lids to 425°F), the dishwasher and metal utensils. Its care guide still asks for low to medium heat and no spray oils. ATK’s review is the useful counterweight: it says ceramic “isn’t quite as nonstick or as durable as traditional nonstick,” so expect to replace the frying pans sooner than the pots.

Why we like it

  • Ceramic coating free of PFAS, per GreenPan
  • Works on induction
  • Oven safe to 600°F (lids 425°F)
  • Same line as ATK’s top ceramic skillet

Key specifications

Model CC000675-001
Coating Diamond-reinforced ceramic (Thermolon)
Base material Hard-anodized aluminum, induction base
Size 11 pieces: 8″, 9.5″, 11″ frypans; 2 and 3 qt saucepans; 3 qt sauté pan; 5 qt stockpot; 11″ grill pan; lids
Weight Not stated
Oven-safe to 600°F (lids 425°F)
Induction Yes
Dishwasher safe Yes

Why we recommend it

If you want a whole kitchen of nonstick made without PTFE, and especially if you cook on induction, this is the most established set we found, with a published review behind its frying pan.

Skip it if you want the longest life from the coating. Ceramic wears faster than PTFE by ATK’s account, and a grill pan may not earn its cupboard space.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Made without PTFE
  • Induction ready
  • High oven rating
  • Three frying pans

Cons

  • Ceramic wears faster (ATK)
  • No spray oils
  • Grill pan of limited use

4. HexClad Hybrid 14-Piece Set – A Lid for Every Pan

Best hybridHexClad Hybrid Nonstick 14-Piece Cookware Set

HexClad’s hybrid surface is a laser-etched pattern of stainless steel hexagons with the company’s TerraBond ceramic nonstick in the valleys between them. The steel takes the contact, which is why HexClad rates the pans for metal utensils, and the coating helps food release. Underneath is tri-ply construction with an aluminum core.

The set is unusually well matched: 8-, 10- and 12-inch pans, each with its own lid, and 2-quart, 3-quart and 8-quart pots with lids, plus two silicone trivets. Six pans and six lids means nothing in the box goes without a cover, and the 12-inch pan is large enough for family dinners.

HexClad rates everything for any cooktop including induction, and for the oven up to 900°F, with tempered glass lids to 400°F. The pans are dishwasher safe, though HexClad recommends hand washing, and it says seasoning according to its instructions is essential to the hybrid’s nonstick performance. HexClad’s lifetime warranty covers manufacturer’s defects, excluding commercial use and damage from excessive heat or lack of seasoning.

Why we like it

  • Six pans, six lids, two trivets
  • Stainless ridges tolerate metal utensils
  • Oven safe to 900°F (glass lids 400°F)
  • Works on induction

Key specifications

Model Hybrid 14-piece set (model not stated)
Coating Hybrid: stainless ridges, TerraBond ceramic
Base material Tri-ply, aluminum core
Size 14 pieces: 8″, 10″, 12″ pans; 2, 3, 8 qt pots; 6 lids; 2 trivets
Weight Not stated (12″ pan 3.4 lb, HexClad)
Oven-safe to 900°F (glass lids 400°F)
Induction Yes
Dishwasher safe Yes; hand washing recommended

Why we recommend it

Choose it if you want a set that sears as well as it releases, and a household where metal spatulas and tongs come out. The full set of lids and the 12-inch pan make it a complete kit for a busy family.

Skip it if your priority is the slickest possible egg pan. A hybrid surface needs seasoning and a little fat, and HexClad advises starting at lower heat than you are used to.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Lid for every pan
  • Metal utensil safe
  • Very high oven limit
  • Induction ready

Cons

  • Needs seasoning
  • Heavier than aluminum sets
  • Warranty excludes heat damage

5. T-fal Experience 3-Piece Fry Pan Set – Three Sizes, Induction Included

Best frying pan setT-fal Experience Nonstick Frying Pan

Many cooks do not need a nonstick saucepan or stockpot at all; the coating earns its keep in the frying pan. This set is only frying pans: 8-inch for an egg or two, 10.25-inch for stir-fries and searing, and 12.5-inch for family-sized meals, in T-fal’s words.

The 12.5-inch T-fal Experience fry pan is the best buy in America’s Test Kitchen’s nonstick skillet review, which notes the line was formerly sold as T-fal Professional. Here you get it alongside two smaller sizes. T-fal describes the interior as its Platinum nonstick, up to ten times more resistant than its basic coating, with a Thermo-Spot preheat indicator and an even-heat base. Unlike T-fal’s Ultimate line, these pans work on all cooktops, including induction.

T-fal rates them for the oven to 400°F and the dishwasher, with comfortable silicone handles and a limited lifetime warranty. T-fal’s care rules apply as for any coated pan: low to medium heat, never empty on a hot burner, no sprays.

Why we like it

  • 8, 10.25 and 12.5-inch fry pans
  • The 12.5-inch is ATK’s best buy nonstick skillet
  • Works on induction
  • Thermo-Spot preheat indicator

Key specifications

Why we recommend it

Choose it if you already own a stainless or enameled pot or two and only want nonstick where it matters. Three sizes cover everything from one egg to a family pan of chicken and rice, on any stove.

Skip it if you need lids: none are included. For a covered pan, see our guide to the best nonstick pan with lid.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Three useful sizes
  • Induction ready
  • Reviewed line (ATK best buy)
  • Dishwasher safe

  • No lids
  • Oven limit 400°F

6. Tramontina Nesting 11-Piece Nonstick Set – Half the Cupboard Space

Best for small kitchensTramontina Non Stick 11-Piece Nesting Pots and Pans Set with Lids - Naval

Storage is the hidden cost of a cookware set, and Tramontina’s nesting set is designed around it. The pieces lock together and nest inside one another, which Tramontina says leaves you with 50 percent more cupboard space, and the tempered glass lids nest too.

The set includes 1.25-quart, 2-quart and 3-quart saucepans with lids, a 3-quart casserole with a lid, a 4.75-quart sauce pot with a lid, and a 12-inch sauté pan. That is a pot-heavy set: there is no small frying pan, and the sauté pan is the only wide, shallow piece. Pair it with a 10-inch fry pan if you cook eggs every day.

Tramontina makes it from 3.0 mm heavy-gauge aluminum with a porcelain enamel exterior and a triple-coated interior that it names as Teflon Platinum, a PTFE coating, made without lead or cadmium. The set is NSF certified, dishwasher safe, oven safe to 350°F, and rated for gas, electric and ceramic glass cooktops but not induction. It carries a lifetime warranty.

Why we like it

  • Nests to save space, per Tramontina up to 50 percent
  • 3.0 mm heavy-gauge aluminum, NSF certified
  • Teflon Platinum interior, dishwasher safe
  • Lifetime warranty

Key specifications

Model 80156/067DS
Coating Teflon Platinum (PTFE), triple coated

Weight Not stated
Oven-safe to 350°F
Induction No (gas, electric, ceramic glass)
Dishwasher safe Yes

Why we recommend it

Choose it for a small apartment, an RV or any kitchen where cupboard space decides what you can own. It covers soups, sauces, beans and rice in a footprint closer to one large pot.

Skip it if you cook on induction or want frying pans. It has neither, and its 350°F oven limit is the lowest here.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Saves cupboard space
  • Coating named by the maker
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Lifetime warranty

Cons

  • No frying pan
  • Not for induction
  • Oven limit 350°F

7. OXO Professional 10-Piece Ceramic Set – Two Big Frying Pans

Best ceramic valueOXO Professional 10 Piece Cookware Pots and Pans Set

OXO’s Professional set is a ceramic alternative to the GreenPan built around larger frying pans. It includes 10-inch and 12-inch fry pans, a 3-quart sauté pan with a lid, 2.3-quart and 3.3-quart saucepans with lids, and a 5.2-quart casserole with a lid: six pans and four lids, with no small egg pan and no stockpot.

The coating is a ceramic nonstick reinforced with diamond particles, which OXO says is free of PFAS, PFOA, lead and cadmium, over hard-anodized aluminum. OXO uses flush rivets inside the pans, so there are no rivet heads for food to catch around, which makes washing by hand or in the dishwasher easier.

OXO rates the set for induction, gas, electric and ceramic cooktops, and marks it dishwasher and oven safe. The set listing does not give the oven limit; OXO’s listing for the matching 10-inch Professional fry pan says 600°F. Like any ceramic, it will last longest at low to medium heat.

Why we like it

  • 10 and 12-inch fry pans in the box
  • Ceramic free of PFAS and PFOA, per OXO
  • Flush rivets, nothing to trap food
  • Works on induction

Key specifications

Model CC004748-001
Coating Diamond-reinforced ceramic
Base material Hard-anodized aluminum
Size 10 pieces: 10″ and 12″ fry pans; 3 qt sauté pan; 2.3 and 3.3 qt saucepans; 5.2 qt casserole; 4 lids
Weight Not stated
Oven-safe to Oven safe; limit not stated for the set (600°F for the 10″ pan)
Induction Yes
Dishwasher safe Yes

Why we recommend it

Choose it if you want ceramic and cook in quantity: two large frying pans and a sauté pan make it a good set for a family that cooks rice, vegetables and chicken in the same evening.

Skip it if you want an 8-inch egg pan or a big pot. The set has neither.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Two large fry pans
  • Induction ready
  • Easy-clean flush rivets

Cons

  • No small pan or stockpot
  • Set oven limit not stated
  • Ceramic wears faster than PTFE

8. Caraway 12-Piece Ceramic Set – Storage Included

Best storageCaraway 12-Piece Non-Stick Ceramic Cookware Set

Caraway’s set is small in pans and generous in storage. You get a 10.5-inch frying pan, a 3-quart saucepan with a lid, a 4.5-quart sauté pan with a lid and a 6.5-quart Dutch oven with a lid, then four magnetic pan racks and a canvas lid holder. That makes twelve pieces, but only four pans.

The coating is Caraway’s ceramic nonstick, which the maker says is made without PTFE, PFOA, PFAS, lead or cadmium. Caraway rates the set for induction, gas and electric ranges and the oven up to 550°F. Its site lists the frying pan at 2.7 lb. The racks and lid holder keep the pans standing on edge in a drawer or cupboard, so the coated surfaces do not rub against each other, which is one of the quieter ways coatings get scratched.

Caraway’s site says a small amount of oil or butter is essential to protect the surface and improve performance. The listing does not say whether the pans are dishwasher safe or what the base metal is, so check the care card before you put them in a machine.

Why we like it

  • Four magnetic pan racks and a lid holder
  • Ceramic made without PTFE or PFAS, per Caraway
  • Oven safe to 550°F
  • Works on induction

Key specifications

Model Not stated (listed by color: Cream)
Coating Ceramic nonstick

Weight Fry pan 2.7 lb (Caraway); set not stated
Oven-safe to 550°F
Induction Yes
Dishwasher safe Not stated

Why we recommend it

Choose it if you cook for one or two and want four good-looking pans that store neatly. The racks protect the coating, which matters more for ceramic than for anything else.

Skip it if you want value per pan. Eight of the twelve pieces are lids and storage, and there is only one frying pan.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Storage protects the coating
  • Induction ready
  • 550°F oven limit

Cons

  • Only four pans
  • One frying pan
  • Dishwasher use not stated

9. Ninja NeverStick Professional 10-Piece Set – Oven Safe to 500°F, Lids Included

Best for high oven heatNinja NeverStick Professional Hard-Anodized 10 Piece Pots & Pans Set

Ninja built its NeverStick line around durability claims. The listing describes plasma ceramic particles fused to the pan surface to create a hard, textured base that interlocks with Ninja’s own nonstick coating, over a shot-blasted hard-anodized exterior and a heavy 4.5 mm aluminum base meant to prevent hot spots.

The set includes an 8-inch fry pan, a 10.25-inch fry pan, 1.5-quart and 2.5-quart saucepans with glass lids, a 3-quart sauté pan with a glass lid and a 6.5-quart stockpot with a glass lid; the 10.25-inch fry pan shares the sauté pan’s lid. Ninja says the lids, handles and coating are all oven safe to 500°F, which is unusual: most sets limit the glass lids to 350°F or 425°F.

Ninja rates the cookware for gas, electric, glass ceramic and induction stoves, for metal utensils and for the dishwasher, and the listing gives a 10-year warranty. What Ninja does not say on the listing is what its “exclusive coating” is made of. If the coating chemistry matters to you, choose a set whose maker names it.

Why we like it

  • Lids, handles and coating oven safe to 500°F
  • Works on induction
  • Metal utensil and dishwasher safe, per Ninja
  • 10-year warranty

Key specifications

Model C39500
Coating NeverStick (coating type not named)
Base material Hard-anodized aluminum, 4.5 mm base
Size 10 pieces: 8″ and 10.25″ fry pans; 1.5 and 2.5 qt saucepans; 3 qt sauté pan; 6.5 qt stockpot; 4 lids
Weight Not stated
Oven-safe to 500°F, including lids
Induction Yes
Dishwasher safe Yes

Why we recommend it

Choose it if you often finish dishes in the oven with the lid on, such as braised chicken or a covered pan of rice, and want one set that handles that, induction and the dishwasher.

Skip it if you want to know exactly what the coating is. Ninja’s listing does not name it, and the set has no 12-inch fry pan.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • 500°F lids
  • Induction ready
  • Long warranty

Cons

  • Coating type not named
  • Two pans share one lid
  • No 12-inch fry pan

How to choose a nonstick cookware set

1. Count the pans, not the pieces

Every lid counts as a piece, and some sets count spoons, trivets, racks and lid holders too. The T-fal Ultimate 12-piece has six pans; the Caraway 12-piece has four. Write down the pans you cook with in a normal week, then find the set that matches.

2. Check the frying pan sizes

The frying pan is the piece you will use most and replace first. Look for at least one 10-inch pan, and a 12-inch if you cook for three or more. Several sets here stop at 10 or 10.25 inches. A set of frying pans alone, such as the T-fal Experience trio, is often the better buy if you already own pots.

Frying pans and a saucepan hanging from a black wall-mounted rack
Hanging pans is one way to keep coated surfaces from rubbing together.

3. Match your stovetop

Induction needs a magnetic base. The T-fal Ultimate and Tramontina nesting sets do not work on it; All-Clad HA1, GreenPan, HexClad, OXO, Caraway, Ninja and the T-fal Experience pans do, according to their makers.

4. Decide on the coating

PTFE (named by All-Clad and Tramontina) gives the freest release and, by America’s Test Kitchen’s account, outlasts ceramic. Ceramic (GreenPan, OXO, Caraway) is made without PTFE but wears faster. Hybrid (HexClad) trades some release for searing and metal-tool tolerance. The FDA authorizes PFAS coatings for nonstick pots and pans and says studies show negligible migration to food; what matters most for any coating is following the maker’s heat limits. Our best nonstick pans guide explains the three types in more detail.

5. Look at the lids and oven limits

Glass lids usually have a lower oven limit than the pans: 350°F for T-fal and All-Clad, 400°F for HexClad, 425°F for GreenPan, 500°F for Ninja. If you braise in the oven with the lid on, that number matters more than the pan’s.

6. Think about storage

Stacked nonstick pans scratch each other. Nesting designs (Tramontina), racks (Caraway) or pan protectors between pieces help, and ATK suggests not stacking a nonstick skillet where it bumps other cookware.

How we chose these nine sets

We started from the pans a working kitchen actually reaches for, then looked for sets that include them without padding. We considered only sets sold on Amazon in the United States and in stock when we checked, and took every contents list and specification from the maker’s website or the brand’s Amazon listing, noting where a detail is missing. We used America’s Test Kitchen’s published nonstick and ceramic skillet reviews, cited by name, and the FDA’s guidance on nonstick coatings. We have not cooked with these sets and do not claim to have tested them. We left out sets whose contents we could not confirm from the maker or listing, large sets that were nearly out of stock, such as All-Clad’s HA1 10-piece and Le Creuset’s PRO sets, and unbranded sets that described coatings as “healthy” or “non-toxic” without saying what they were.

Looking after a nonstick set

A set lasts as long as its frying pans, so the care rules matter most there. The makers agree on the basics.

  • Low to medium heat. T-fal, GreenPan and HexClad all say so; HexClad adds that medium on its pans equals medium-high on others.
  • Never heat a coated pan empty or let a pot boil dry, as T-fal’s care sheet warns.
  • No cooking sprays. GreenPan and T-fal both advise against them.
  • Soft tools unless the maker allows metal (GreenPan, HexClad and Ninja do; All-Clad recommends silicone, nylon or wood).
  • Cool before washing to avoid warping, and hand wash when you can, as ATK suggests for nonstick skillets.
  • Replace pieces, not the set. When one frying pan stops releasing, replace that pan; the pots usually last far longer.

Nonstick pan set questions, answered

What is the best nonstick pan set for the money?

The T-fal Ultimate 12-piece gives the most useful pans for the outlay among the sets here: six pans, four lids, a preheat indicator and a limited lifetime warranty. If you only need frying pans, the T-fal Experience three-pan set is better value still. For a single good pan instead, see our best value nonstick pan guide.

Is it better to buy a nonstick set or individual pans?

A set is better value if you need most of what is in it. If you already own pots, buy frying pans only: a nonstick coating does its best work in a frying pan, and that is the piece you will replace first.

What does Wirecutter recommend for a nonstick pan set?

We could not access Wirecutter’s guide when we checked, so we have not cited its picks. The published reviews we did read are America’s Test Kitchen’s: its best buy nonstick skillet is the T-fal Experience 12.5-inch, part of our frying pan set pick, and its top ceramic skillet is from GreenPan’s Valencia Pro line.

How many pieces should a nonstick cookware set have?

For most households, six pans covers it: two frying pans, two saucepans, a sauté pan or Dutch oven and one larger pot, with lids. That is usually sold as a 10- to 12-piece set.

Do I need a nonstick stockpot?

Rarely. A stockpot mostly boils water, stock and beans, which do not stick. A nonstick saucepan helps with rice, oatmeal and sauces; a nonstick frying pan helps with almost everything delicate.

Our final pick for a nonstick pan set

Buy the T-fal Ultimate 12-piece for a first full kitchen on gas or electric. Choose the All-Clad HA1 13-piece for induction and a big family, the GreenPan Valencia Pro or OXO Professional for ceramic, the HexClad 14-piece for a hybrid set with a lid for every pan, and the Tramontina nesting set when cupboard space is tight. If you already own pots, the T-fal Experience three-pan set is all the nonstick most kitchens need.
