Silicone bags are a different animal from a plastic zip-top. They are thick, floppy and heavy for what they are, and they cost far more than a box of disposables. In return you get something that can go through the dishwasher and come back for the next lunch. Whether that works for you depends on the seal, how much the bag holds on to last night’s chile and how easily you can get it dry.
Our reusable freezer bag guide looks at any reusable bag for the freezer, including non-silicone ones and freezer trays, and our freezer bag guide covers disposables. This one is silicone only, and it is about the everyday jobs: fridge leftovers, a packed lunch, snacks and the pantry. We repeat two brands from the reusable guide in different sizes, and we say why.

Quick verdict: which silicone bags to buy
Buy W&P Porter flat bags if you want the closest thing to a disposable zip-top: Consumer Reports made W&P its top pick in a test of five brands, though Food & Wine found the bags stained easily. Buy Stasher for a sturdier feel and a lifetime warranty. Our value pick is the Annaklin 12-Pack, and the OXO 4-Piece Starter Set is the way to try a range of sizes.

Our picks for the best silicone food storage bags
Two independent tests help here. Consumer Reports tested five silicone brands for stains, smells and leaks, and we could read its summary and rankings. Food & Wine tested a wider group of reusable bags. Between them they cover W&P and Stasher, plus Zip Top, which is on our freezer bag guide. The other picks rest on the listing and the maker’s details, and we say so. Silicone is a material choice, and we make no health claim about it; where a listing does, we leave that out.
1. W&P Porter Silicone Bag, 10 oz Flat – Most Like a Zip-Top

Consumer Reports tested five silicone brands and made W&P its top pick, saying that of all the bags its reviewer looked at, W&P’s came closest to looking and feeling like a disposable zip-top bag. That is the real appeal. Thick silicone can feel like wrestling a hot water bottle, and this feels less so.
Food & Wine’s test of W&P’s flat bags adds a warning: they stained too easily for the price. Keep them away from turmeric, achiote and tomato sauce, or accept the color. Made from one piece of silicone with curved inside edges, they have no seams to trap food, and the clear front lets you see what is inside and mark a date.
We link the 10-ounce flat size, which the listing says is for snacks such as blueberries or pretzel sticks, since it was sold by Amazon. The larger 34-ounce sandwich size was sold by a third party when we checked. The listing also names steaming, sous vide and microwaving. A larger W&P stand-up bag is on our freezer guide, and this flat lunch size is a different tool.
Why we like it
- Top pick in Consumer Reports’ test of five brands
- Made from one piece of silicone
- Curved edges, no seams to catch food
- Clear front

Why we recommend it
It suits someone leaving disposables behind who wants a bag that behaves like one, for lunch and snacks.
Skip it if you pack a lot of red or yellow food; Food & Wine found the flat bags stained too easily.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Backed by a named test
- Easy to clean
- Clear front panel
Cons
- Stains, per Food & Wine
- Small size linked
- Larger sizes may come from third parties
2. Stasher Silicone Sandwich Bag, 28 oz – Sturdy, With a Lifetime Promise

Stasher came second in Consumer Reports’ test and first in Food & Wine’s, whose testers called the bags sturdy and said they keep food fresh for days and resist stains and odors. Food & Wine’s main objection is that they are a little pricey. On our sources, this is the safest bet in silicone.
The bag is platinum food-grade silicone with a Pinch-Loc seal, which you run closed with your fingers. It goes in the dishwasher or warm soapy water. The listing warns against turning the bag inside out, since that can rip it, so use a bottle brush or the dishwasher for the corners.
What sets it apart is the lifetime warranty on the listing, which says Stasher replaces a bag damaged in normal use. We link the 28-ounce sandwich size for everyday use. The half-gallon on our freezer guide is the bulk version of the same line, and it is a different job.
Why we like it
- Runner-up at Consumer Reports, best overall at Food & Wine
- Pinch-Loc seal
- Lifetime warranty on the listing
- Dishwasher safe

Pros and cons
Pros

- Do not turn inside out
- Heavier than a disposable
3. OXO Good Grips Silicone Reusable Bags, 4-Piece Starter Set – Flat and Stand-Up Sizes

If you do not yet know which size you will reach for, a set is the way in. OXO’s starter set has four bags of assorted sizes. The range is sold in flat and stand-up shapes, with a seamless design and a wide opening that the listing says makes filling easier.
One practical touch stands out: a dust-resistant finish. Silicone is known for attracting lint and crumbs, and any maker that addresses it deserves a mention, though we cannot say how well the finish works in daily use. The seamless inside should also make these easier to wash.
OXO was not part of either test we read, and this newer line does not have an independent review that we could find. The listing does not list the exact sizes in the set, so check the product photos before you buy.
Why we like it
- Four assorted sizes
- Seamless design
- Dust-resistant finish
- Wide opening
Key specifications

Why we recommend it
It suits a first-time buyer who wants a known kitchen brand and a range of sizes.
Skip it if you only need one size; buying singly avoids sizes you will not use.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Known maker
- Range of sizes
- Dust-resistant finish
Cons
- Not in the tests we read
- Sizes not listed in features
- Dust claim is the maker’s own

4. Annaklin Silicone Food Storage Bags, 12-Pack – A Dozen Stand-Up Bags

Most people will not spend what a premium single bag costs twelve times over. Annaklin’s pack gives you a dozen stand-up bags in medium, small and extra-small sizes, sold as 100 percent silicone. Annaklin is an Amazon-first brand, and we count it as one of the two allowed here.
The zip-lock closure, stand-up base and clear measurement marks are the practical details. The listing rates them for the dishwasher, freezer, microwave and oven, and describes a translucent body so that you can see what is inside. Marks in cups and milliliters help when you are freezing broth in set amounts.
We cannot speak for how well the seal holds. Neither test we read covered this brand, and Consumer Reports found one bag it could not recommend for any purpose, which shows these can go wrong. Fill one with water over the sink before trusting it with salsa in a work bag.
Why we like it
- Twelve bags in three sizes
- Stand-up design
- Measurement marks
- Sold as 100 percent silicone
Key specifications
| Model | BXDA-3SZ-12AQ |
|---|---|
| Size | 12 pack, 3 sizes |

| Seal | Zip-lock |
| Heat and cold | Dishwasher, freezer, microwave, oven |
| Cleaning | Dishwasher safe |
| Stands up | Yes |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits a household packing several lunches a day, for whom a dozen matters more than a brand.
Skip it if you want a maker with a stated warranty; none shows on this listing.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Lots of bags
- Stands while you fill it
- Measurement marks
Cons
- Amazon-first brand
- No independent report
- Seal unproven; leak-test it
5. Lékué Reusable Silicone Bags, Set of 3 – Spanish Maker, Fill Line

Lékué is a Spanish company that has worked with silicone in the kitchen for a long time, and this set of three has features aimed at cooks. There is a maximum fill indicator and a space to write on, so you know what is in the bag and when it went in, with no tape needed.
The three sizes are 16, 34 and 50 ounces. The listing is pointed about soups, sauces and creamed vegetables staying secure in a 100 percent leak-proof seal, and it names the fridge, freezer, microwave and dishwasher, plus sous vide. That is a strong claim from the maker, and neither test we read included this brand, so try it with water first.
The 2-year manufacturer warranty is more than most listings here state. The seller we saw was a third party, eKitchenWorld, so check who stands behind that warranty.
Why we like it
- Maximum fill indicator
- Writable labeling area
- Three useful sizes
- 2-year warranty field
Key specifications
| Model | 3400800SURU004 |
|---|---|
| Size | 16, 34 and 50 oz |
| Material | Platinum silicone |
| Seal | Airtight seal, per listing |
| Heat and cold | Fridge, freezer, microwave, sous vide |
| Cleaning | Dishwasher safe |
| Stands up | Not stated |
| Warranty | 2 years |
Why we recommend it
It suits a cook who stores soups, sauces and marinades and likes to label them.
Skip it if you want a test report behind a leak-proof claim; we could not find one.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Writable label area
- Fill line reduces spills
- Good size range
Cons
- Third-party seller
- Leak-proof claim untested by reviewers
- No flat snack size

6. ProKeeper Dual-Zipper Silicone Sandwich Bag – Two Zippers on One Bag

ProKeeper’s design point is the second zipper. The listing describes a dual-zipper closure meant to give a leak-proof, airtight seal, and it is a sensible response to the commonest complaint about silicone bags, which is a seal that looks shut when it is not.
At 3 cups, or 710 ml, it is a generous sandwich size that also takes fruit or a good handful of tortilla chips. The listing is short and describes it as 100 percent silicone. It is sold by Amazon as a single bag, so you can try one before committing to more.
We found no independent test of this bag. A double zip can also be a little more work to close, so run a finger over both tracks before you trust it. Care is not in the features we read, so check the packaging.
Why we like it
- Dual-zipper closure
- 3-cup capacity
- Sold singly, so easy to try
- Clear body
Key specifications
| Model | PKS-13C |
|---|---|
| Size | 3 cups (710 ml) |
| Material | 100% silicone, per listing |
| Seal | Dual zipper |
| Heat and cold | Not stated |
| Cleaning | Not stated |
| Stands up | Not stated |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits someone who has been let down by a single seal and wants to try one extra-secure sandwich bag.
Skip it if you want a full care and use list; this listing is short.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Two zipper tracks
- Good everyday size
- Sold by Amazon
Cons
- Short listing
- No independent test turned up
- More tracks to clean
7. Ubbi Platemate Silicone Storage Bag – Opens Flat Into a Placemat

Ubbi is a baby and kids’ gear brand, and this bag has one clever idea behind it. It seals tight for storage and then opens completely flat, giving you a clean mat to eat from at daycare, in a restaurant high chair or on a picnic table. For anyone who has wiped down a public table for a toddler, the appeal is obvious.
It is platinum silicone, safe on the dishwasher’s top rack and in the freezer, and the listing says the surface rinses clean in seconds and dries quickly. That last point matters more than it sounds, since drying is the main chore with silicone bags. It opens flat, so it should be much easier to dry than a pouch.
It is not a general storage bag. The listing is aimed at lunch and travel, it mentions no leakproof claim, and this is a dry-food tool in our reading. We found no independent review of this new product.
Why we like it
- Opens flat as a placemat
- Platinum food-grade silicone
- Top-rack dishwasher safe
- Freezer safe
Key specifications
| Model | 10373 |
|---|---|
| Size | Sandwich bag |
| Material | Platinum silicone |
| Seal | Seals tight, per listing |
| Heat and cold | Freezer |
| Cleaning | Top-rack dishwasher |
| Stands up | Not stated |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits a parent packing lunch for a toddler, or anyone who likes a clean surface wherever they eat.
Skip it if you need to carry anything wet; the listing makes no leakproof claim.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Two jobs in one
- Dries quickly when open
- Easy to rinse
Cons
- Not for liquids
- Niche use
- No independent review turned up
How to choose silicone food storage bags
Test the seal first. Consumer Reports checked leaks with water, weight and a drop from 3 feet, and you can do the first part at home. Fill a new bag with water, close it and hold it upside down over the sink. Do this before you put salsa in a work bag.
Think about stains. Tomato, chile and turmeric are hard on silicone. Consumer Reports ran Bolognese for 24 hours in its test, and Food & Wine found W&P stained too easily while Stasher resisted. For red and yellow food, a darker bag will at least hide it.
Then look at smell. Silicone can hold on to strong food. Consumer Reports checked for fish sauce odor after washing. A dietary expert quoted by Food & Wine suggests baking soda, vinegar or lemon juice for stains and smells on bags that cannot take hot water. Keep one bag for strong food if you can.
Consider how you will dry them. A bag with a wide opening and no seams dries faster. Food & Wine advises letting bags air dry, and warns that heat can warp some bags in a dishwasher, so follow each maker’s advice. A bottle rack or a wooden spoon in a jar helps hold them open.
Choose your sizes with intent. A flat bag fits a lunch box and a drawer. A stand-up bag is easier to fill and sits on a fridge shelf. A big gallon is hard to dry and hard to justify unless you freeze soup, in which case see the reusable freezer bag guide.
If you want to vacuum seal, these are the wrong tool. Our reusable vacuum bag guide covers that job.

How we picked these seven bags
We kept to bags that listings describe as silicone, and we left out the many PEVA bags that show up in the same searches, including most of Lerine’s range. We chose identifiable makers, with at most two Amazon-first brands, and dropped limited-stock listings. We did not use these bags ourselves. For W&P and Stasher we relied on Consumer Reports’ published test summary and on Food & Wine’s 2023 test as syndicated on Yahoo. The others rest on their listings, as each one says.
Silicone bag questions, answered
Are silicone bags better than plastic?
They last longer and go through the dishwasher, but they are bulkier and take longer to dry. We make no health claim either way. That is a question for a medical authority, and we only compare how they work.
Are silicone bags leakproof?
Some makers say so. Consumer Reports tested leaks because results differ, and it found one bag it would not recommend for any purpose. Test yours with water first.
Can you microwave silicone food storage bags?
Many listings say yes, including Stasher, W&P, Annaklin and Lékué. Follow the maker’s instructions, leave the seal open if told to, and take care with hot steam.
How do you clean silicone bags?
Wash with dish soap and warm water, or use the dishwasher if the maker allows it, then air dry. Stasher warns not to turn its bag inside out. Use a bottle brush for corners.
Why isn’t Zip Top on this page?
Zip Top is a strong option that Consumer Reports called its best stand-up. We already have its set on our freezer bag guide, and we limit how many models we repeat from one page to the next.
Our final pick for the fridge and lunch bag
Related guide: Silicone vs plastic storage bags.
W&P is our pick for feeling most like the disposable bag you are replacing, and Stasher for lasting the longest on paper. For the job silicone is not suited to, use a vacuum sealer; see our vacuum seal bag guide. And if the leftovers are gone, see Julia’s menu and call to order.
