A two-way coffee maker solves a common argument at home: one person wants a quick single cup on a weekday, and the whole house wants a pot on Sunday. Instead of a pod brewer and a drip machine side by side, one machine does both, usually from a single cord and often a single water tank.
They are not all alike. Some take K-Cup pods on the single side and some only take your own grounds, some pour the pot into glass and some into a thermal carafe, and a few add iced coffee, a milk frother or a hot water tap. This guide compares seven single and multi serve brewers and explains which one fits which household.

Quick verdict: which two-way coffee maker to buy
For most homes the best single and multi serve coffee maker is the Ninja DualBrew Pro: pods or grounds for one cup, a 12-cup pot, 13 sizes and a separate hot water system. For a simpler machine that still brews pods or grounds for one and a full pot, choose the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio. If you want a thermal pot, look at the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Advanced 5-in-1.
This page narrows our main guide to the best coffee maker down to machines that do both jobs. None of that guide’s nine picks has a separate pod or single-serve side, so none is repeated here.

Our picks for the best single and multi serve coffee maker
Each of these seven machines brews a single cup and a full carafe, and each was in stock on Amazon from a named maker when we checked. They are ordered by how well they suit most households, and every entry ends with one honest reason to skip it.
1. Ninja DualBrew Pro Specialty Coffee Maker – Thirteen Sizes, Pods or Grounds

Ninja’s DualBrew Pro, model CFP301, is the most complete two-way brewer we found. One side brews a single cup from a K-Cup pod or your own grounds; the other fills a 12-cup glass carafe. Ninja counts 13 sizes in all: five grounds cup sizes, four carafe sizes from a quarter to a full pot, and four pod sizes from 6 to 12 ounces.
Four brew styles cover most of what a household drinks: Classic, Rich, Over Ice and Specialty, a concentrate for latte-style drinks. A fold-away frother handles the milk, and it removes for cleaning. Ninja also gives the machine a separate hot water system with hot and boil settings, kept apart from the coffee path so tea water does not taste of coffee.
The 60-ounce reservoir is removable and can sit on the side or the back of the machine, which helps on a shallow counter. The listing title specifies a paper filter for the carafe basket, and a pod adapter and Ninja’s scoop come in the box.
The listing gives a 1-year limited warranty. A sister model, the CFP307, comes with a permanent filter, but it showed as scarce on Amazon when we checked, so we picked the CFP301.
Why we like it
- Pods or grounds for one cup, grounds for a full 12-cup pot
- 13 sizes and 4 brew styles (Ninja)
- Separate hot water system with hot and boil settings
- Fold-away, removable milk frother
- 60 oz reservoir that fits side or back
Key specifications
| Model | CFP301 |
|---|---|
| Single-cup side | K-Cup pods or grounds, 6 oz to travel mug |
| Carafe | Glass |
| Carafe capacity | 12 cups (quarter to full) |
| Reservoir | 60 oz, removable, side or back |
| Brew options | Classic, Rich, Over Ice, Specialty |
| Programmable | Not stated in listing |
| Warranty | 1-year limited |
Why we recommend it
It suits a household where one person wants a pod in the morning, another wants a travel mug of their own grounds, and everyone shares a pot at the weekend. The hot water side is a bonus for tea drinkers.
Skip it if you want a thermal carafe; this one is glass on a warming plate.
Pros and cons
Pros
- The widest range of sizes here
- Iced and concentrate styles on both sides
- Hot water kept apart from coffee
Cons
- Large machine with many controls
- Glass carafe, not thermal
- Shortest warranty among the big brands here
2. Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio 2-Way Coffee Maker – Three Ways to Brew for Less

Hamilton Beach’s FlexBrew Trio, model 49976, is the simplest way to get a pot and a pod in one machine. The carafe side brews up to 12 cups of ground coffee; the single side takes a K-Cup or another brand’s pod for up to 10 ounces, or ground coffee for a 14-ounce travel mug.
Each side has its own water reservoir with a window, so you fill only the side you are using, and the two never share water. The cup rest lifts out for a tall travel mug. On the carafe side, Easy-Touch programming sets the pot for the morning, AutoPause & Pour lets you pour mid-brew, and the plate keeps coffee warm for 2 hours before the machine switches itself off.
There are two strength settings, regular and bold, which Hamilton Beach calls Select-a-Brew. A reusable filter comes with it, so paper filters are optional.
The trade-off for the value is fewer extras: no iced setting, no hot water tap and no frother. The listing gives a 1-year warranty.
Why we like it
- Pods or grounds on the single side, grounds on the carafe side
- Separate reservoir for each side
- Programmable carafe with AutoPause & Pour
- 2-hour keep warm, then auto shut-off
- Reusable filter included
Key specifications
| Model | 49976 |
|---|---|
| Single-cup side | Pod up to 10 oz; grounds up to 14 oz |

| Carafe capacity | 12 cups |
| Reservoir | Two separate, fill-in-place |
| Brew options | Regular or bold |
| Programmable | Yes, carafe side |
| Warranty | 1-year |
Why we recommend it
It is the one to buy if you want both a pot and a quick single cup and do not need iced coffee, milk frothing or a removable tank.
Skip it if you want one shared, removable tank; each side here has its own fixed reservoir.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Simple controls
- Brews pods or your own coffee for one
- Auto shut-off after 2 hours
Cons
- No iced or specialty settings
- Two reservoirs to fill
- Carafe material not stated in the listing

3. Keurig K-Duo Essentials Single Serve and Carafe Coffee Maker – Built for K-Cup Households

If your household already runs on K-Cup pods, Keurig’s own two-way brewer is the obvious place to look. The K-Duo Essentials brews a single cup from a pod or a carafe of ground coffee, from one shared reservoir.
Retailer listings describe a 12-cup glass carafe on a heating plate, with carafe sizes up to 12 cups and pod sizes of 8, 10 or 12 ounces. Keurig’s carafe side has a pause-and-pour feature, the plate switches off two hours after a carafe brew, and the single-cup side turns off shortly after brewing, per those listings. Travel mugs up to about 7 inches tall fit under the single-serve spout.
Amazon’s listing adds regular and bold strength, a brew-over-ice option for iced coffee and a programmable start. Reservoir size is the one figure that varies: most retailer listings give 60 ounces, while the Amazon listing gives 1.9 litres, a little over 64 ounces. Either way it is shared by both sides and removable.
This model is a separate machine from the K-Duo Hot & Iced reviewed in our iced coffee guide. Keurig’s warranty for it was not stated in the listings we checked.
Why we like it
- Single cup from a K-Cup pod, carafe from grounds
- One shared, removable reservoir
- Regular and bold strength (listing)
- Brew over ice for iced coffee (listing)
- Carafe plate shuts off after 2 hours (retailers)
Key specifications
| Model | K-Duo Essentials (Gen 2) |
|---|---|
| Single-cup side | K-Cup pods, 8 to 12 oz |
| Carafe | Glass, heating plate (retailers) |
| Carafe capacity | Up to 12 cups |
| Reservoir | About 60 oz, removable (sources vary) |
| Brew options | Regular, bold, over ice |
| Programmable | Yes (listing) |
| Warranty | Not stated in listing |
Why we recommend it
It suits a K-Cup household that also wants a real pot of coffee for weekends or guests, from the brand that makes the pods.
Skip it if you want to brew your own grounds for a single cup without buying a reusable pod; the single side is built around K-Cups.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Made by the K-Cup maker
- One tank for both sides
- Iced and bold options
Cons
- Single cup needs a pod or a reusable pod
- Glass carafe, not thermal
- Specs vary between listings
4. Cuisinart Coffee Center 3-in-1 Coffee Maker – A Pot, a Cup and Tea Water

Cuisinart’s Coffee Center SS-18 adds a third job to the usual two. A 12-cup glass carafe handles the pot, a single-serve side brews pods up to 12 ounces or your own grounds up to 20 ounces, and a hot water dispenser offers three temperatures: 175, 185 or 195 degrees Fahrenheit, so green tea can steep cooler than black.
The single-serve side comes with Cuisinart’s HomeBarista XL reusable filter cup, which holds up to 25 grams of grounds for a 20-ounce mug in one pass. The drip tray adjusts and lifts out to clear tall travel mugs. An Over Ice setting adjusts the brew on both sides, and a removable milk whisk froths dairy or plant milk.
You can set the carafe’s warming plate to low, medium or high before brewing, and it keeps coffee warm for up to 4 hours. The 62-ounce reservoir mounts on the back or the side, the filter basket, carafe and filter cup are top-rack dishwasher safe, and there is a built-in descale cycle.
A gold-tone permanent filter, a charcoal water filter and a scoop come in the box, and the listing gives a 3-year limited warranty, the longest here. This is a different model from the thermal Coffee Center reviewed in our thermal carafe guide.
Why we like it
- Pot, single cup and hot water in one machine
- Three hot water temperatures for tea
- Up to 20 oz from your own grounds
- Over Ice on both sides; milk whisk included
- 3-year limited warranty (listing)
Key specifications
| Model | SS-18 |
|---|---|
| Single-cup side | Pods up to 12 oz; grounds up to 20 oz |
| Carafe | Glass, adjustable warming plate |
| Carafe capacity | 12 cups |
| Reservoir | 62 oz, back or side |
| Brew options | Over Ice, plate temperature, hot water |
| Programmable | Not stated in listing |
| Warranty | 3-year limited |
Why we recommend it
It suits a mixed household of coffee and tea drinkers who would otherwise need a kettle next to the coffee maker.
Skip it if you only drink coffee; you would be paying for a hot water system you do not need.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Hot water at three temperatures
- Largest single-cup size here
- Dishwasher-safe parts and a descale cycle
Cons
- Wide machine with three outlets
- Glass carafe on a plate
- Programmable start not stated in the listing
5. Hamilton Beach 2-Way Programmable Coffee Maker – Single Cups Without Pods

Some people want a single-cup option but do not want pods at all. Hamilton Beach’s 2-Way brewer, listed as 49980, skips them entirely. The single side uses a mesh scoop that you fill with ground coffee and drop in place, brewing up to 14 ounces into a cup or travel mug. The other side makes up to 12 cups in a glass carafe.
The listing is clear that it does not take K-Cup pods, and Hamilton Beach presents that as the point: less to buy and less to throw away. Like the FlexBrew Trio, each side has its own easy-fill reservoir with a water window.
The rest is a solid basic drip machine. You can choose regular or bold strength, program the brewer up to 24 hours ahead, and use AutoPause & Pour to grab a cup before the pot finishes.
It is the plainest machine on this page and comes with a 1-year warranty, per the listing. It also comes in white, listed as model 49933.
Why we like it
- Single cup from your own grounds, no pods needed
- 12-cup glass carafe on the other side
- 24-hour programming
- Regular or bold strength
- Separate reservoir for each side
Key specifications
| Model | 49980 |
|---|---|
| Single-cup side | Ground coffee in mesh scoop, up to 14 oz |
| Carafe | Glass |
| Carafe capacity | 12 cups |
| Reservoir | Two separate, fill-in-place |
| Brew options | Regular or bold |
| Programmable | Yes, up to 24 hours |
| Warranty | 1-year |
Why we recommend it
Choose it if you like the idea of a quick single mug but would rather use the same ground coffee as the pot, with no pods to buy.
Skip it if anyone in the house wants K-Cup pods; this machine does not take them.
Pros and cons
Pros
- No pods to buy or throw away
- Simple, familiar controls
- Programmable
Cons
- No pod option at all
- No iced or hot water features
- Two reservoirs to fill

6. Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Advanced 5-in-1 Coffee Maker – A Thermal Pot in a Slim Body

Most two-way brewers pour the pot onto a hot plate. Hamilton Beach’s FlexBrew Advanced 5-in-1, model 49929, fills a 12-cup stainless steel thermal carafe instead, which keeps the coffee hot without cooking it.
The carafe sits on the side rather than the front, which Hamilton Beach says makes it over 40 percent narrower; the listing does not show what it is compared with. The front brews a single cup, hot or iced, from a K-Cup pod or ground coffee, in under 2 minutes for a hot cup, per the listing. The carafe side brews hot coffee from grounds.
One 60-ounce removable reservoir serves both sides and can sit at the back or the side. Hamilton Beach says it holds enough for a full 12-cup carafe or up to seven single servings. Auto Brew lets you wake up to a single cup or a full pot, there are regular and bold strengths, and the cup rest lifts out for travel mugs up to 7.25 inches tall.
An LED touchscreen runs the controls, and the pod-piercing needle removes for cleaning. The warranty was not stated in the listing we checked.
Why we like it
- 12-cup stainless thermal carafe, no hot plate
- Slim body with the carafe at the side
- Hot or iced single cups from pods or grounds
- One 60 oz reservoir, back or side
- Auto Brew for a single cup or a full pot
Key specifications
| Model | 49929 |
|---|---|
| Single-cup side | Pods or grounds, hot or iced |
| Carafe | Stainless steel thermal |
| Carafe capacity | 12 cups |
| Reservoir | 60 oz, removable, back or side |
| Brew options | Regular, bold, iced (single side) |
| Programmable | Yes, Auto Brew |
| Warranty | Not stated in listing |
Why we recommend it
It suits a narrow counter and a household that drinks the pot slowly, since the thermal carafe keeps coffee hot without a plate.
Skip it if you want iced coffee by the potful; the listing describes iced brewing on the single-cup side only.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Thermal carafe
- Narrow footprint
- Shared removable reservoir
Cons
- Iced only on the single side
- Warranty not stated in the listing
- Touchscreen controls may not suit everyone
7. SHARDOR 6-Cup Single Serve and Carafe Coffee Maker – Slim, with a Thermal Carafe

SHARDOR’s KM805 takes the same idea as the Hamilton Beach above into a smaller body. It brews a single serving from a K-Cup-compatible pod or your own grounds, from 6 ounces up, or fills a double-wall stainless steel thermal carafe that holds 32 ounces, which the listing counts as 6 cups of about 5 ounces each.
The listing gives it a slim 5.63-inch width and a removable drip tray that clears travel mugs up to 6.88 inches tall. That makes it a real option for a studio, a camper or a tight office counter.
The rest covers the basics well: Classic, Bold, Over Ice and Hot brew styles, a 95-ounce removable reservoir, a 24-hour brew-later timer, a descaling reminder and dishwasher-safe removable parts, per the listing.
Six small cups is much less than the 12-cup machines here, so this suits one or two coffee drinkers rather than a household. SHARDOR did not state a warranty in the listing we checked.
Why we like it
- Pods or grounds for one cup
- Double-wall stainless thermal carafe
- Slim 5.63-inch body (listing)
- 95-ounce removable reservoir
- 24-hour brew-later timer
Key specifications
| Model | KM805 |
|---|---|
| Single-cup side | K-Cup compatible pods or grounds |
| Carafe | Stainless steel thermal |
| Carafe capacity | 32 oz, 6 cups by the listing’s count |
| Reservoir | 95 oz, removable |
| Brew options | Classic, Bold, Over Ice, Hot |
| Programmable | Yes, 24-hour brew later |
| Warranty | Not stated in listing |
Why we recommend it
It suits one or two people who want a thermal pot and the odd pod cup on a narrow counter.
Skip it if you brew big pots for a crowd; the carafe holds just 32 ounces.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Thermal carafe at a compact size
- Takes pods or grounds
- Large removable reservoir
Cons
- Smallest carafe here
- Lesser-known maker
- Warranty not stated
How to choose a two-way coffee maker
Pods, grounds or both on the single side
Decide first how you want to make one cup. Pods are quick and tidy but leave a used capsule every time and limit you to what comes in a pod; your own grounds let you choose any coffee. The Ninja, Hamilton Beach FlexBrew models, Cuisinart and SHARDOR take both. The Keurig is built around pods, and the Hamilton Beach 2-Way takes grounds only.
Glass or thermal carafe
A glass carafe on a warming plate keeps coffee hot but slowly cooks it. A thermal carafe holds heat without a plate, so a pot made at seven still tastes right at nine. Two machines here pour into a thermal carafe; for full-size thermal machines see the best thermal carafe coffee maker.
One tank or two
Machines with a shared removable reservoir, like the Ninja, Keurig and FlexBrew Advanced, fill at the sink and feed both sides. The FlexBrew Trio and 2-Way have a separate fill-in-place reservoir for each side, which is simple but means two tanks to keep track of.
Extras worth paying for
Iced coffee settings, a milk frother and a hot water tap all add cost and controls. Pay for them only if you will use them. If iced coffee is the main reason you are shopping, our guide to the best iced and hot coffee maker goes deeper.
Counter space
Two-way brewers are wide by nature. Measure the space, and check whether the reservoir can move to the side or back. The FlexBrew Advanced and the SHARDOR are the two built around saving width.

How we chose these seven two-way brewers
We searched Amazon’s product data for coffee makers that brew both a single cup and a full carafe, kept the ones in stock in October 2026 from makers with an identifiable model line, and dropped near-duplicates and listings with no clear model. We then read each maker’s listing and, where a figure was missing or unclear, cross-checked retailer specification sheets. We left out machines already recommended on our other coffee pages, such as the Cuisinart thermal Coffee Center, the Ninja DualBrew GP161 and the Keurig K-Duo Hot & Iced, so that each page offers something new. None of these machines has been used at Julia’s, and we do not claim otherwise; prices and ratings change daily, so we left them out. We also searched the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall listings for these brands and found no recall covering the models on this page.
Two-way coffee maker questions, answered
What is a single and multi serve coffee maker?
It is a coffee maker with two brewing paths: one that brews a single cup or travel mug, often from a pod, and one that brews a full carafe of ground coffee. Makers call them 2-way, dual brew or combo brewers.
Can you use your own coffee instead of pods?
On most of these, yes. The Ninja, both FlexBrew models and the Cuisinart include a basket or filter cup for ground coffee on the single side, and the Hamilton Beach 2-Way uses grounds only. On pod-based machines a reusable pod does the same job.
Do two-way coffee makers brew both sides at once?
The makers’ listings do not say that these models brew both sides at the same time, so plan on one brew after the other.
Is a two-way brewer good for an office?
For a small team it can work, but busy offices usually need faster or bigger machines. See the best office coffee maker for brewers built for that.
What if I only ever drink one cup?
Then skip the carafe and buy a dedicated single-cup brewer. Our guide to the best single serve coffee maker covers those.

Our final pick for one cup or a full pot
Buy the Ninja DualBrew Pro if you want the most flexibility from one machine, the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio if you want the basics done simply, and the FlexBrew Advanced 5-in-1 or the SHARDOR if a thermal pot matters to you. Tea drinkers in the house should look hard at the Cuisinart Coffee Center, and anyone who wants to be done with pods should choose the Hamilton Beach 2-Way.
For drip machines without a single-serve side, go back to our guide to the best coffee maker.
And if you would rather someone else made breakfast, see the menu or call to order.
