Best Smoker Cover: Maker-Fit Covers for Nine Kinds of Smoker

The best smoker cover is the one cut for your model: maker covers for electric, offset, pellet, vertical and bullet smokers, and how to match the fit.

Smoke drifting from an outdoor grill on a deck with hills behind
A smoker or grill on an open deck sits out in the weather between cooks

A smoker spends most of its life sitting outside between cooks, and that is where it gets hurt. Rain runs in through the stack and the vents, ash left in the firebox soaks it up and turns corrosive, the sun cracks the paint, and a pellet hopper that takes on water swells the pellets into a solid plug. A fitted cover is the simplest protection there is, and on the humid Gulf Coast it does a lot of work.

The hard part is fit. Smokers come in very different shapes: tall electric cabinets, vertical pellet towers, wide offset barrels with a firebox hanging off one end, bullet-shaped water smokers and pellet grills with side shelves. A cover cut for one rarely sits right on another. This guide picks the covers that the smoker makers themselves sell on Amazon for their own models, one or two per kind of smoker, and says plainly which smoker each one fits. For the smokers themselves, start with our guide to the best smoker.

Quick verdict: which smoker cover to buy

Buy the cover your smoker’s maker sells for your model. For the common Masterbuilt 30-inch electric smoker, Masterbuilt’s own 30-inch cover is the obvious pick. For an offset barrel, the Oklahoma Joe’s Highland Offset Smoker Cover is cut around the firebox. Pellet grill owners should match the cover to the exact model, such as Traeger’s BAC504 cover for the Pro 780. If you own a Weber Smokey Mountain and want something sturdier than a basic cover, the Classic Accessories Veranda cover for the 18.5-inch Smokey Mountain adds vents, padded handles and leg straps.

The table sets five covers side by side for five kinds of smoker. All nine picks are reviewed below.

Our picks for the best smoker cover

The nine picks are grouped by kind of smoker: electric cabinets first, then charcoal offsets and gravity-fed units, then pellet grills and vertical pellet smokers, then a bullet smoker. Eight are sold under the smoker maker’s own name. The ninth comes from Classic Accessories, an established cover brand, because Weber’s own Smokey Mountain covers were showing only limited stock when we checked.

1. Masterbuilt 30-inch Electric Smoker Cover – The Maker’s Fit for the Most Common Electric Smoker

Best for electric smokersMasterbuilt® 30-inch electric smoker cover

The 30-inch Masterbuilt electric is one of the smokers most beginners start with, and this is Masterbuilt’s own cover for it. The listing says plainly that it fits Masterbuilt 30-inch electric smokers, and gives the model number as 20080110.

An electric smoker needs a cover more than most. It has a heating element, a control panel and wiring, and Masterbuilt’s own warranty text on the listing says the company does not cover rust. Keeping rain off the cabinet and the control panel is the owner’s job, and a cover that is cut to the cabinet does it without flapping.

The listing describes the fabric as high-quality reinforced polyester that resists fading and is designed to last season to season. It does not describe a lining, vents or a fastening system, so in a windy spot you may want to tie it down. Masterbuilt’s stated warranty is 90 days from purchase.

Before you order, check that your smoker is the 30-inch size. Masterbuilt sells separate covers for its 40-inch smokers, and a 30-inch cover will not reach the floor on the taller cabinet.

Why we like it

  • Masterbuilt’s own cover for its 30-inch electric smokers
  • Reinforced polyester, described as fade resistant
  • Keeps rain off the control panel and element housing
  • Model number stated, so it is easy to match

Key specifications

Model 20080110
Fits (per maker) Masterbuilt 30-inch electric smokers
Material Reinforced polyester
Dimensions Not stated
Fastening Not stated
Warranty 90 days, per the listing

Why we recommend it

It suits the owner of a 30-inch Masterbuilt electric who keeps the smoker on a patio and wants the maker’s fit rather than a universal size.

Skip it if you own a 40-inch cabinet or a smoker from another brand, or if you want a cover with stated vents and straps.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Made by the smoker’s maker
  • Simple model match
  • Fade-resistant fabric

Cons

  • No fastening described
  • Short 90-day warranty
  • Dimensions not published

2. Oklahoma Joe’s Highland Offset Smoker Cover – Cut Around the Firebox

Best for offset smokersOklahoma Joe’s Highland Offset Smoker Cover

An offset smoker is an awkward shape to cover: a long barrel, a firebox bolted to one end, a tall stack at the other, and usually a shelf out front. The Highland is one of the most common backyard offsets, and Oklahoma Joe’s sells this cover designed to fit it.

The listing gives the fabric as heavy-duty 300D x 250D polyester and calls the cover weather resistant. That is a lighter weave than the 600-denier fabric on some pellet grill covers, so it is worth handling with a little care around the sharp corners of a steel firebox.

Offsets are where a cover pays for itself. The firebox holds ash after every cook, and ash that gets wet turns into a sludge that sits against the steel. Empty the firebox once it is cold, then cover the smoker so rain cannot run down the stack into the cook chamber.

The cover is sized to the Highland. Oklahoma Joe’s makes other offsets, such as the Longhorn, with different dimensions, so match the model name before you order.

Why we like it

  • Oklahoma Joe’s own cover for the Highland offset
  • Covers the barrel, firebox and stack in one piece
  • Weather-resistant polyester

Key specifications

Model 8259969P04
Fits (per maker) Oklahoma Joe’s Highland Offset Smoker
Material 300D x 250D polyester
Dimensions Not stated
Fastening Not stated
Warranty Not stated in the listing

Why we recommend it

It suits a Highland owner who wants a cover cut for the firebox and stack instead of a loose universal offset cover that bunches up at one end.

Skip it if your offset is a different model, or if your smoker sits somewhere very windy, since the listing does not describe straps.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Made for one of the most common offsets
  • Covers the firebox and stack
  • Weather resistant

Cons

  • Lighter weave than 600D covers
  • No straps described
  • Warranty not stated

3. Dyna-Glo DG1176CSC Premium Vertical Offset Smoker Cover – Published Size Limits

Best for vertical offsetsDyna-Glo DG1176CSC Premium Vertical Offset Charcoal Smoker Cover

A vertical offset puts the cook chamber in a tall cabinet with the firebox low on one side. Dyna-Glo makes several, and this cover is its own, made for the DGO1176BDC-D vertical offset charcoal smoker.

What makes it easy to check is that the listing publishes the size it fits: vertical offset smokers with a center smoke stack and assembled dimensions up to 34.84 inches wide, 20.4 inches deep and 47.5 inches high. If you own a similar vertical offset from another brand, you can measure it against those figures rather than guess.

The listing does not describe the fabric, the fastening or a warranty. Treat it as a fitted shell that keeps rain off the cabinet, the firebox and the stack, and check those figures against your own smoker.

Why we like it

  • Dyna-Glo’s own cover for its DGO1176BDC-D
  • Maximum fit dimensions published
  • Usable on similar center-stack vertical offsets if they measure within the limits

Key specifications

Why we recommend it

It suits a Dyna-Glo vertical offset owner, and anyone with a similar center-stack vertical offset who can measure it against the published limits.

Pros

  • Fit dimensions you can measure against
  • Made by the smoker’s maker

4. Masterbuilt Gravity Series Cover, MB20080220 – Lined and Drawstring-Tied

Best for gravity-fed charcoalMasterbuilt® Grill Cover for Gravity Series and AutoIgnite Series 545 Smoker Grills Cover in Black

Masterbuilt’s Gravity Series smokers burn charcoal fed down from a tall hopper, which leaves a hopper lid, a digital controller and a fan all exposed to the weather. This cover, model MB20080220, is Masterbuilt’s own for the Gravity Series 560, 600, 800 and 900 and the AutoIgnite Series 545, according to the listing.

It has more stated features than most covers here. The listing describes double-stitched seams to stop leaks, an interior PVC liner that resists tearing as you pull the cover on and off, UV additives against fading, and an adjustable drawstring to hold it in place.

That drawstring matters on a Gravity Series unit, which is tall and wide and catches the wind. Keeping the controller and fan dry is also the main reason to cover a smoker that relies on electronics.

Masterbuilt sells a separate larger cover for the Gravity Series 1050, 1150 and XT, so check your model number before ordering this one.

Why we like it

  • Masterbuilt’s cover for five named Gravity and AutoIgnite models
  • Interior PVC liner and double-stitched seams
  • Adjustable drawstring for wind
  • UV additives against fading

Key specifications

Model MB20080220
Fits (per maker) Gravity Series 560, 600, 800, 900; AutoIgnite Series 545
Material Fabric with interior PVC liner
Fastening Adjustable drawstring
Warranty Not stated in the listing

Why we recommend it

It suits a Gravity Series 560 to 900 owner who wants the controller, fan and hopper kept dry with the maker’s own fit.

Skip it if you own a 1050, 1150 or XT; Masterbuilt sells a larger cover for those.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Fits several Masterbuilt models
  • Lined and double-stitched
  • Drawstring for wind

Cons

  • Not for the larger Gravity models
  • Dimensions not published
  • Warranty not stated

5. Traeger BAC504 Full-Length Grill Cover for the Pro 780 – Form-Fitted, Three-Year Warranty

Best for pellet grillsTraeger Grills BAC504 Full-Length Grill Cover Grill Accessory - Pro 780

Pellet grills are smokers with a hopper full of compressed wood, and the hopper is the part that most needs a cover. Pellets that get damp swell and crumble, and they can jam the auger that feeds the fire. This is Traeger’s full-length cover for the Pro 780, model BAC504.

A note on reuse: our pellet grill accessories guide already lists Traeger’s matching cover for the smaller Pro 575 and Pro 22. This is a different cover, cut for the larger Pro 780, and we include it because a smoker cover guide without a Traeger fit would leave out one of the most common pellet grills.

The listing describes heavy-duty, all-weather material against rain, sun and snow, calls it water resistant, and says the form-fitted design is snug but easy to put on and take off. It is a full-length cover, so it reaches down over the legs and the hopper rather than covering only the lid. The listing states a three-year manufacturer warranty.

Traeger sells separate covers for nearly every model, from the Pro 575 to the Woodridge and Ironwood lines, so look up your grill’s name before buying.

Why we like it

  • Traeger’s own full-length cover for the Pro 780
  • Covers the hopper, where damp does the most harm
  • Form-fitted and water resistant
  • Three-year manufacturer warranty stated

Key specifications

Model BAC504
Fits (per maker) Traeger Pro 780
Material Heavy-duty all-weather fabric
Coverage Full length
Warranty 3 years, per the listing

Why we recommend it

It suits a Pro 780 owner who keeps the grill outdoors and wants the hopper and controller under the maker’s own full-length cover.

Skip it if you own any other Traeger; the fit is for one model.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Full-length coverage
  • Longest warranty stated on this page
  • Maker’s fit

Cons

  • One model only
  • Fabric weight not stated
  • No fastening described

6. Camp Chef Woodwind Pro 24-inch Cover – 600D Coated Fabric for Every Pro 24 Version

Best for Camp Chef ownersCamp Chef Woodwind Pro 24" Cover

Camp Chef’s Woodwind Pro is a pellet grill with a smoke box, and this is Camp Chef’s own cover for the 24-inch size, model PC24WWSB. The listing says it fits all Woodwind Pro 24-inch variations.

It names the fabric weight, which many covers do not: heavy-duty 600-denier coated polyester. It also has form-fitting straps, so the cover can be snugged down instead of flapping. Camp Chef describes it as durable, weather-resistant protection.

Check whether your grill has a Sidekick attachment fitted on the side. Camp Chef sells patio covers for some of its pellet grills that fit over the Sidekick, and the listing for this cover does not say it does.

Why we like it

  • Camp Chef’s cover for all Woodwind Pro 24 versions
  • 600D coated polyester, a stated fabric weight
  • Form-fitting straps

Key specifications

Model PC24WWSB
Fits (per maker) All Camp Chef Woodwind Pro 24-inch variations
Material 600D coated polyester
Fastening Form-fitting straps
Warranty Not stated in the listing

Why we recommend it

It suits a Woodwind Pro 24 owner who wants the maker’s cover with a stated heavy fabric and straps.

Skip it if you have a Sidekick fitted or own the 36-inch Woodwind Pro; check Camp Chef’s other covers instead.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • 600D coated fabric
  • Straps for wind
  • Fits every Pro 24 version

Cons

  • Sidekick fit not stated
  • Warranty not stated

7. Weber Smoque 22-inch Pellet Smoker Cover – Published Size and Wind Straps

Best for Weber pelletWeber® Smoque™ 22‑Inch Pellet Smoker Cover

Weber’s Smoque is its newer pellet smoker, and this is Weber’s own cover for the 22-inch model. The listing gives the cover’s size as 44.5 inches high, 38.75 inches wide and 22.5 inches deep, which lets you check it against your grill with a tape measure.

Weber describes weather-resistant fabric and a lightweight design that makes covering and uncovering easy, with fastening straps to keep it secure in windy weather. It also says the fabric is made from 100 percent recycled PET plastic, excluding the fasteners.

The trade-off in “lightweight” is that the listing does not give a fabric weight, and a light cover is easier to snag on a sharp corner. For a pellet smoker that lives under a patio roof, that matters less than straps that hold it down.

Why we like it

  • Weber’s cover for the Smoque 22-inch
  • Dimensions published
  • Straps for windy weather
  • Recycled PET fabric, per the listing

Key specifications

Model 3400607
Fits (per maker) Weber Smoque pellet smoker, 22-inch
Material Weather-resistant fabric, 100% recycled PET
Dimensions 44.5 x 38.75 x 22.5 in (H x W x D)
Fastening Fastening straps
Warranty Not stated in the listing

Why we recommend it

It suits a Smoque 22 owner who wants an easy cover to pull on and off after every cook.

Skip it if your smoker sits fully exposed in rough weather and you would rather have a heavier stated fabric.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Size published
  • Wind straps
  • Light and quick to handle

Cons

  • Fabric weight not stated
  • Fits one smoker

8. Pit Boss 5-Series Vertical Smoker Cover – PVC-Backed for a Tall Pellet Tower

Best for vertical pellet smokersPit Boss 5-Series Wood Pellet Vertical Smoker Cover

Vertical pellet smokers stack several racks in a tall cabinet with the hopper on the side. Pit Boss makes some of the most common ones, and this is its cover for the 5-Series, model PBV5P1, according to the listing.

The listing describes heavy-duty polyester with a PVC backing and a drawstring for a secure fit, and gives the size as 50 by 30 by 30 inches. Pit Boss says it cleans with water, or with a damp cloth and mild detergent, and states a one-year limited warranty.

A tall, narrow smoker is top-heavy in the wind, and so is a loose cover on it. The drawstring is what keeps this one from turning into a sail.

Why we like it

  • Pit Boss’s own cover for the 5-Series vertical
  • PVC backing behind the polyester
  • Drawstring for a secure fit
  • One-year limited warranty

Key specifications

Model 73550
Fits (per maker) Pit Boss 5-Series vertical pellet smoker (PBV5P1)
Material Heavy-duty polyester, PVC backing
Dimensions 50 x 30 x 30 in, per the listing
Fastening Drawstring
Warranty 1-year limited

Why we recommend it

It suits a Pit Boss 5-Series owner who wants a backed, drawstring cover cut for the tall cabinet.

Skip it if you own a different Pit Boss series or a Pit Boss electric smoker; Pit Boss lists a separate cover for its electric smokers.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • PVC-backed fabric
  • Drawstring
  • Warranty and size stated

Cons

  • Large logo, if you mind that
  • Fits one series

9. Classic Accessories Veranda Cover for the 18.5-inch Smokey Mountain – Vents, Handles and Leg Straps

Best for bullet smokersClassic Accessories Veranda Smoker Cover for Weber 18.5" Smokey Mountain Cooker

The Weber Smokey Mountain is a charcoal bullet smoker, a tall round drum with a water pan. Weber sells its own covers for it, but they were showing only limited stock when we checked, so this pick comes from Classic Accessories, a long-running outdoor cover brand that cuts its Veranda line for named grills.

The listing says it fits smokers up to 19 inches across and 39 inches high, which covers the 18.5-inch Smokey Mountain and similar bullet smokers. It has the most stated features of any cover here: air vents to reduce condensation inside and stop the wind lofting it, padded handles, an elastic hem cord with a toggle, and click-close straps that snap around the legs.

Those vents are worth having on a smoker that holds a water pan. If the pan is not emptied, moisture rises inside the cover, and a vent gives it somewhere to go. Classic Accessories also describes bound interior seams and high-density stitching. The listing does not name the fabric.

Why we like it

  • Fits smokers up to 19 inches across and 39 inches high
  • Air vents against condensation and wind lofting
  • Leg straps, hem cord and padded handles
  • Bound seams and dense stitching

Key specifications

Model 73002-WB
Fits (per maker) Weber 18.5-inch Smokey Mountain; smokers up to 19 in diameter, 39 in high
Material Not stated
Fastening Click-close leg straps, elastic hem cord with toggle
Extras Air vents, padded handles
Warranty Not stated in the listing

Why we recommend it

It suits an 18.5-inch Smokey Mountain owner, or anyone with a bullet smoker inside the stated size, who keeps it in an open yard.

Skip it if you own the 22-inch Smokey Mountain, which is too large for this cover, or if you want the smoker maker’s own cover.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Vents and leg straps
  • Size limits published
  • Padded handles

Cons

  • Not made by the smoker’s maker
  • Fabric not named
  • Too small for the 22-inch model

How to choose a smoker cover that fits

1. Match the model, not the type

“Pellet grill cover” and “offset smoker cover” describe dozens of different shapes. The covers on this page are listed for named models, such as the Traeger Pro 780, the Oklahoma Joe’s Highland or the Pit Boss 5-Series. Find the model on your smoker’s label and buy the cover listed for it. Where a maker offers several sizes, as Masterbuilt does for its 30-inch and 40-inch electrics and its Gravity Series, the wrong one will either not close or will drag on the ground.

2. Measure when the size is published

Some listings give numbers: Dyna-Glo publishes the largest smoker its cover fits, Weber gives its Smoque cover’s height, width and depth, and Classic Accessories gives a maximum diameter and height. If your smoker is not on the list but fits inside those numbers, the cover may work. Measure with any side shelves and the stack in place.

3. Cover the hopper and the electronics

On a pellet grill, the hopper matters more than the lid: wet pellets swell and can jam the auger. On electric and gravity-fed smokers, the controller and fan are the parts that suffer. A full-length cover, like Traeger’s, reaches down over those parts.

4. Something to hold it down

Straps, a drawstring or a hem cord keep a cover on in a storm. Pit Boss and Masterbuilt list drawstrings, Camp Chef and Weber list straps, and Classic Accessories adds leg straps and a hem cord. Several of the maker covers here describe no fastening at all; on those, tie the cover down if the yard is windy.

5. Vents and liners

A PVC liner or backing, as on the Masterbuilt Gravity and Pit Boss covers, adds a barrier against water. Vents, as on the Classic Accessories cover, let damp air out so it does not condense on the steel. A smoker that holds a water pan benefits most from a vent.

Covering a smoker without trapping rust underneath

A cover only protects a smoker that goes under it dry and cool. A few habits make the difference:

  1. Let it cool completely. Fabric covers are not made to touch hot steel, and a firebox can stay hot for hours after a long cook.
  2. Empty the ash. Cold ash left in a firebox or charcoal basket soaks up any moisture that gets in. Clear it out before covering.
  3. Empty the water pan on bullet and electric smokers, so water is not sealed in under the cover.
  4. Keep pellets dry. If rain is coming and the smoker will sit for a while, consider emptying the hopper into a sealed container.
  5. Check after storms. Look under the cover on the next dry day. If the inside is damp, leave it uncovered in the sun to dry out before covering it again.

Cleaning the cover itself is simple. Pit Boss says its cover rinses with water or wipes down with a damp cloth and mild detergent; let any cover dry before it goes back on.

How we chose these nine smoker covers

We started with the smokers people actually own: electric cabinets, charcoal offsets, vertical offsets, gravity-fed charcoal units, pellet grills, vertical pellet smokers and bullet smokers. For each, we looked for a cover sold on Amazon in the United States by the company that makes the smoker, and checked stock, fit and materials with the Amazon listing data. Every pick was in stock when we checked. Weber’s own Smokey Mountain covers were showing limited stock, so we used Classic Accessories for that slot. We left out the many universal and model-matched covers from sellers who publish nothing beyond the listing. We did not run a search for independent reviews of these covers; each pick rests on the maker’s listing details. We have not used these products ourselves.

Smoker cover questions, answered

Do smokers need a cover?

If the smoker lives outside, yes. Rain runs in through the stack and vents, wet ash sits against the steel, damp pellets swell in the hopper, and sun fades paint. Masterbuilt’s warranty text on its 30-inch cover listing says it does not cover rust, which puts that job on the owner.

Can I use a grill cover on a smoker?

Only if it fits the shape. A gas grill cover is cut for a box on a cart, and it will not close around an offset’s firebox or a tall vertical cabinet. Buy a cover listed for your smoker’s model, or one whose published dimensions match it.

Should I cover a smoker while it is warm?

No. Wait until it is completely cool. Fabric covers are not made for hot steel, and a firebox can stay hot well after the cook is over.

Is a maker’s cover better than a universal one?

A maker’s cover is cut for the shape of its own smoker, which usually means less flapping and no bunching around the stack or hopper. A good universal cover can fit well if its published dimensions match yours, as the Classic Accessories cover does for bullet smokers.

How do I keep a cover from blowing off?

Use the drawstring or straps if the cover has them, and fasten them every time. If it has none, a bungee around the legs works. Tall smokers catch the most wind.
