Takeya’s bottles come down to a few choices: steel or Tritan plastic, spout or straw, and how big. Most of the listing pages show the same bottle in dozens of colors, which makes the range look larger than it is.
This guide is for people who have already decided on Takeya. It says which model suits which buyer, and where a rival would do better. To compare other makers, read our water bottle guide. For glass, see our glass water bottle guide, which covers Takeya’s sleeved glass bottle, and for children, our kids water bottle guide.

Quick verdict: which Takeya water bottle to buy
The Actives 24 Ounce with spout lid suits most people: two independent reviews found it seals well, and one found good cold results. If the spout bothers you, choose the same bottle with a straw lid. For more cold on paper there is the Sport 22 Ounce, and for low weight the Tritan Sport 32 Ounce. GearLab ranks the Actives low in its group, so Takeya is a value choice, not a top performer.

Our picks for the best takeya water bottle
Seven models and sizes, one listing each, all sold by Amazon.com. Color is your own call.
1. Takeya Actives Bottle With Spout Lid, 24 Ounce – The Everyday Actives

The Actives with a spout lid is the bottle Takeya is known for, and 24 ounces is the size we would choose for a day of normal drinking. The listing states 18/8 food-grade steel, up to 24 hours cold, a carrying loop, a dishwasher-safe build and a body that fits most car cup holders.
Marion Tucker at CleverHiker tested the Actives in Southern Utah and says “it offers quality temperature control” for less money than others in her group. Cold drinks stayed cold for a full day in direct desert sun, ice lasted into the afternoon, and drop tests left “just a few small dents and exterior scuffs.” She did not give the size, and she listed the bottle at 16 ounces empty, among the heaviest in her test.
Trish Matheny at GearLab, testing the 32-ounce, is cooler. She found the lid fully leak- and spillproof, but “We didn’t love the mouthfeel of the plastic spout,” and said the intricate lid is “the perfect host for dirt and grime.” GearLab ranks it 12th of 15 and says there are better options at a similar price. Both agree that it seals well. They differ on how much you should mind the lid. The 32-ounce is on our water bottle guide, so we use the 24 here.
Why we like it
- Cold for a full day in desert sun, per CleverHiker
- Fully leak- and spillproof, per GearLab
- Few dents after drop tests, per CleverHiker
- Fits most car cup holders, per the listing

Why we recommend it
It suits most people who want an insulated bottle that seals well and costs less than the big names, and who can live with the spout.
Skip it if you want hot coffee from it; Tucker found hot drinks lukewarm after a few hours.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Two independent leak-free reports
- Good cold results
- Limited lifetime warranty on the listing
Cons
- Spout feel, per GearLab and CleverHiker
- Lid is hard to clean, per GearLab
- Thin carry loop, per CleverHiker
2. Takeya Actives Bottle With Straw Lid, 24 Ounce – The Same Bottle, Easier Sipping

This is the same body with a straw lid, and for many people it solves the spout complaint, since you sip through a straw and not a plastic nozzle. CleverHiker notes the brand sells both a spout lid and a straw lid for the Actives. The listing adds a wide loop handle and a removable bumper.
The listing states 24 hours cold and 12 hot, but be careful with that second figure. Hot liquid through a straw is not what we would want, and we read no independent test of the straw lid. It rests on the listing and on the reviews of the body. Clean the straw well, because any straw is harder to clean than a plain cap.
Why we like it
- Removable bumper, per the listing
- Wide loop handle
- Dishwasher safe, per the listing
- Avoids the spout that reviewers disliked

| Stated cold / hot (listing) | 24 hours / 12 hours |
| Size and weight (listing) | 10.4 in, 0.84 lb |
| Dishwasher (listing) | Yes |
Why we recommend it
It suits gym users and anyone who sips all day and did not like the sound of the spout.
Skip it if you want a lid with few parts to wash; a straw adds more.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Easy sipping
- Protective bumper
- Limited lifetime warranty on the listing
Cons
- No independent test of this lid
- A straw is more to clean
- Heavier than a plastic bottle
3. Takeya Actives Bottle With Straw Lid, 64 Ounce – A Half Gallon in One Fill

If you would rather fill once, this half-gallon Actives is the one to get. It has the same straw lid and bumper, with a wide loop handle for carrying, and the same stated 24 hours cold. The listing lists it at 12.5 inches tall, but its width and weight fields look wrong, so we leave those out. Full of water, it will weigh more than 4 pounds from the water alone.
Measure your bag and cup holder. This is a jug for a desk, a gym floor or a truck, not for a jacket pocket. We read no independent test of this size.
Why we like it
- Half gallon in one fill
- Same lid and bumper as the smaller Actives
- Limited lifetime warranty, per the listing
Key specifications

| Material | Stainless steel, double wall |
| Stated cold / hot (listing) | 24 hours / 12 hours |
| Size and weight (listing) | 12.5 in, weight unclear |
| Dishwasher (listing) | Yes |
Why we recommend it
It suits job sites, long gym sessions and people working outdoors who want fewer trips to the tap.
Skip it if it has to fit a car cup holder; a bottle this big is unlikely to.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Fewer refills
- Loop handle
- Sold by Amazon.com
Cons
- Heavy when full
- Too big for cup holders
- Listing evidence only
4. Takeya Sport Triple Insulated Bottle, 22 Ounce – Longer Stated Cold

The Sport is a step up on paper. Its listing describes triple-layer vacuum insulation with a copper lining, and states up to 36 hours cold and 14 hours hot, against 24 and 12 on the Actives. It also adds an ice blocker to keep cubes from hitting your face, a textured powder coat and a removable silicone bumper.
We read no independent test of the Sport, and the extra hours are Takeya’s claim. Tall and slim at 10.9 inches by 2.75, it should sit well in a cup holder, and at 0.8 pounds it weighs about the same on the listing as the 24-ounce Actives, though it holds less.
Why we like it
- 36 hours cold, per the listing
- Ice blocker, per the listing
- Bottle and lid dishwasher safe, per the listing
- Removable bumper
Key specifications
| Model | 51322 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 22 oz |
| Line | Sport |
| Lid | Spout lid with ice blocker |
| Material | 18/8 steel, triple layer |
| Stated cold / hot (listing) | 36 hours / 14 hours |
| Size and weight (listing) | 10.9 in, 0.8 lb |
| Dishwasher (listing) | Yes |
Why we recommend it
It suits someone who wants the coldest water Takeya claims, in a slim bottle for the gym.
Skip it if you want independent numbers; the Actives is the one reviewers have tested.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Longest stated hours
- Good grip finish, per the listing
- Slim
Cons
- Listing evidence only
- 22 ounces is modest
- Spout lid may share the Actives’ cleaning problem

5. Takeya Originals Bottle With Spout Lid, 40 Ounce – Big, With a Hinged Cap

The Originals is Takeya’s plainer insulated line. The listing describes a spout lid with a hinge lock that keeps the cap out of the way for one-handed drinking, double-wall steel and a stated 24 hours cold and 12 hours hot. At 40 ounces it stands 11.6 inches tall and weighs just over a pound.
That hinge is the difference that matters: on the Actives Tucker found the screw-on spout cap “slightly cumbersome.” We have no independent test of the Originals, though, so read that as a difference in the listing and not as proof of a better lid.
Why we like it
- Hinge keeps the cap out of the way, per the listing
- Double-wall steel, per the listing
- 24 hours cold, per the listing
Key specifications
| Model | 50021 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 40 oz |
| Line | Originals |
| Lid | Spout lid with hinge lock |
| Material | Stainless steel, double wall |
| Stated cold / hot (listing) | 24 hours / 12 hours |
| Size and weight (listing) | 11.6 in, 1.06 lb |
| Dishwasher (listing) | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits a long workday when you want one big fill and one hand free.
Skip it if it needs to go in the dishwasher; this listing does not say it can.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Large
- One-handed drinking, per the listing
- No loose cap
Cons
- Listing evidence only
- Tall and heavy when full
- Dishwasher not stated
6. Takeya Tritan Sport Bottle With Spout Lid, 32 Ounce – Light, Clear and Simple

This one has no steel at all. It is BPA-free plastic with a max-flow spout and a handle on the lid, and it weighs 0.38 pounds on the listing, well under half the 24-ounce Actives. Both bottle and lid are dishwasher safe, according to the listing, and you can see what is left in it.
It is not insulated, so cold water warms as it would in any plastic bottle. For a gym session or a day at a desk near a fridge, that may not matter. We read no independent test of it. If you are thinking about plastic against steel, this page will not settle a health question, and the listing is the only source for its BPA-free wording.
Why we like it
- 0.38 pounds, per the listing
- Bottle and lid dishwasher safe, per the listing
- Max-flow spout, per the listing
- Lid handle
Key specifications
| Model | 50274 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 32 oz |
| Line | Tritan Sport |
| Lid | Spout lid with handle |
| Material | BPA-free plastic |
| Stated cold / hot (listing) | Not insulated |
| Size and weight (listing) | 9.6 in, 0.38 lb |
| Dishwasher (listing) | Yes |
Why we recommend it
It suits gym bags and hikers counting weight, and anyone who prefers to see their water.
Skip it if you want cold water after hours outdoors; pick an insulated Actives.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Very light
- Easy care
- Shows how much is left
Cons
- No insulation
- Plastic, if you prefer steel
- Listing evidence only
7. Takeya Motivational Bottle With Straw Lid, 32 Ounce – Time Markers on the Side

This Tritan bottle has time markers and short messages printed down the side, so you can see whether you are on pace for the day. The listing adds a flip straw lid, a large handle, a wide mouth for ice, and a dishwasher-safe bottle and lid. It weighs 0.35 pounds and stands 9.4 inches tall.
The markers are a reminder and nothing more. We make no claim about how much you should drink, and how useful they are depends on you. Like the Tritan Sport, it has no insulation, and we read no independent test.
Why we like it
- Time markers on the bottle, per the listing
- 0.35 pounds, per the listing
- Bottle and lid dishwasher safe, per the listing
- Flip straw lid
Key specifications
| Model | 52539 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 32 oz |
| Line | Motivational |
| Lid | Flip straw lid with handle |
| Material | Eastman Tritan |
| Stated cold / hot (listing) | Not insulated |
| Size and weight (listing) | 9.4 in, 0.35 lb |
| Dishwasher (listing) | Yes |
Why we recommend it
It suits people at a desk who like a visual nudge and do not need cold water for long.
Skip it if printed messages would annoy you; the Tritan Sport is the plain version.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Clear at a glance
- Light
- Easy care
Cons
- No insulation
- Printed slogans are not for everyone
- Listing evidence only
Where Takeya falls short, and who to look at instead
- The spout. Tucker calls it less comfortable than similar models, and Matheny didn’t love the plastic feel. A straw lid avoids this at the cost of cleaning.
- Cleaning the lid. GearLab says the lid traps dirt and flavors linger between drinks. Tucker’s view is kinder: the lid comes off fully for wide-mouth washing. Wash it daily and keep water in it if you can.
- Hot drinks. Listings say 12 hours hot, but Tucker found hot drinks lukewarm after a few hours. For coffee, choose a dedicated mug from our coffee go mug guide.
- Weight and durability. Tucker lists the Actives among the heaviest bottles in her test, and calls the thin plastic carry loop its weakest part.
- A named rival. GearLab ranks the Hydro Flask Wide Mouth at 84 and the Yeti Rambler 26 at 83, against 68 for this Actives. Tucker says the Takeya is much cheaper than others she tested. If you want the better bottle and price is not the issue, buy the Hydro Flask.

How to choose a Takeya water bottle
1. Choose steel or Tritan
Steel holds cold for hours but weighs more. Tritan is much lighter and easy to see into, with no insulation. If your water comes from a cold fridge and you finish it in an hour, Tritan may be all you need.
2. Choose the lid before the color
A spout pours fast and a straw sips slowly. A hinge cap stays out of the way. Takeya’s Actives comes with either a spout or a straw, so do not assume the color you like comes with the lid you want. Read the title carefully.

3. Pick the size you will carry
Actives listings run from 18 to 64 ounces. Spout-lid listings say they fit most car cup holders, but check yours before ordering a 32 or larger. Water alone weighs about two pounds a quart, so add that to the empty weight.
4. Keep the claims in perspective
The stated 24 hours and 36 hours are the maker’s figures. CleverHiker’s cold result, a full day, fits the Actives claim. We read no test of the Sport’s longer claim. If you open it often, or leave it in a hot car, expect less.
How we picked these seven Takeya bottles
We pulled Takeya listings from the Amazon API on November 3, 2026, kept those new, in plain stock and sold by Amazon.com, and took one listing per size and model. We left out the 32-ounce Actives and the glass bottle already on our other guides, the Traveler coffee mug because this page is about water, kids’ bottles and color repeats. We read CleverHiker’s Actives review (April 2025) and GearLab’s Actives review (July 2026). Neither covers the straw lid, Sport, Originals, Tritan or Motivational models, and each write-up says so. We did not test anything ourselves.
Takeya water bottle questions, answered
What sizes do Takeya Actives come in?
In the listings we read, 18, 22, 24, 32, 40 and 64 ounces, though not every size comes with every lid.
Is the Takeya Actives leak-proof?
GearLab found the lid fully leak- and spillproof, and CleverHiker had no spills. Both tested the spout lid. Close it fully before you put it in a bag.
Is the Takeya Actives dishwasher safe?
The listings say so. GearLab says the lid is hard to clean well, so take it apart and look inside now and then.
Is a Takeya good for hot drinks?
Listings state up to 12 hours hot, but Tucker found hot drinks lukewarm after a few hours, and she did not count that against it as a water bottle. We would use a dedicated coffee mug.
Has Takeya been recalled?
The CPSC recall database we searched on November 3, 2026 returned no recall under the name Takeya. That is not a guarantee, so check cpsc.gov for your own product.
Our final pick from the Takeya range
Start with the Actives 24 Ounce, and switch to the straw lid if the spout bothers you. It seals well and it is a fair choice for the money, but read the rival note above first. And when water will not do, call to order from Julia’s at (346) 546-8283.
