Rail, Shelf or Scraper? Best Traeger Grill Accessories That Fit

Traeger's own P.A.L. rail parts, cleaning gear and grill tools, with the models each one fits, so you buy the piece your grill can actually take.

Slicing smoked meat on a wooden board.

A Traeger cooks well out of the box, and the accessory catalog is long. The question for an owner is not what Traeger sells, but which of those parts actually fit the grill you have. A shelf made for a Timberline will not go on a Woodridge, and nothing on the rail fits a grill without one.

So this guide sorts Traeger’s own gear by fit first. It starts with the pieces any owner can use, moves on to the P.A.L. rail add-ons, and ends with simple tools. Our best pellet grill accessories guide covers pellet bins, covers, liners and thermometers for any brand, so we have left those out here. We also left out rubs, and third-party parts that claim to fit.

Quick verdict: which Traeger accessory to buy first

For most owners, the first buy is the Traeger Steam N’ Clean Grill Brush: it cleans hot grates with steam and no bristles, and the head goes in the dishwasher. If you own a recent Timberline or Ironwood, the P.A.L. Folding Front Shelf XL gives you the most useful upgrade, a long fold-down work surface. Other rail owners should start with the P.A.L. Storage Bin, which fits many more models.

Here are five side by side, then all eight in full. Only the two P.A.L. pieces need a rail.

Our picks for the best Traeger grill accessories

1. Traeger Steam N’ Clean Grill Brush – Cleans Hot Grates With No Bristles

Best first buyTraeger Grills Steam N' Clean Grill Brush

This is the accessory we would point almost any Traeger owner to first, because it does not depend on your model. You dip the brush head in cold water and press it on hot grates, and the steam helps loosen what is stuck there. There are no wire bristles to worry about.

The Amazon listing says it is safe on stainless steel grates, porcelain grates and flat top griddles, and Traeger’s own page names porcelain grates and flat top griddles. The listing also gives a limit: it says it works best at 450°F and below, so let a hot grill drop before you start. The brush is about 16.6 inches long, per the listing, which helps keep your hand back from the steam.

The head pops off and goes in the dishwasher, and Traeger recommends washing it between uses. One head comes in the box, and replacements are sold separately, so treat this as a tool with an ongoing part. Traeger does not name cast iron grates, so if you have swapped in a cast iron grate, check before you use steam on it.

Why we like it

  • No bristles, so nothing to shed
  • Works on hot grates after a cook
  • Dishwasher-safe head
  • Listing names stainless, porcelain and flat tops

What it does Steam-cleans hot grates

Why we recommend it

Any Traeger owner who wants a quick clean after each cook. It fits the habit a kitchen already has: clean the grate while it is warm, not the next day.

Skip it if you run the grill hot and want to brush right away, since the listing says to stay at 450°F or below.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Bristle-free
  • Not tied to one grill model
  • Head goes in the dishwasher

Cons

  • Replacement heads cost extra
  • Temperature limit of 450°F
  • Traeger does not name cast iron

2. Traeger P.A.L. Folding Front Shelf XL – Long Prep Space on the Rail

Best for rail grillsTraeger Grills BAC605 P.A.L. Pop-And-Lock Front Shelf XL Grill Accessory

The biggest gap on a pellet grill is usually somewhere to set things down. This shelf snaps to the P.A.L. rail across the front of the grill and folds down when you do not need it. Traeger lists it at 34.1 by 10.6 by 7.75 inches, in cold-rolled steel with a heat-resistant powder coat.

Fit is the thing to check here. Traeger says it works with the Timberline, Timberline XL, Ironwood and Ironwood XL, and says it does not work with the Silverton XL or the Woodridge series, even though some of those grills do have a P.A.L. rail. If your grill is not on that short list, Traeger’s smaller front shelves are the place to look.

Some assembly is needed to secure the brackets, according to Traeger, so this is not quite the snap-on job the rail suggests the first time. Neither Traeger’s page nor the listing states a weight limit, so we would rest a platter or a tray of tortillas on it rather than a full cooler.

Why we like it

  • About 34 inches of shelf
  • Folds down when not in use
  • Detaches and moves along the rail
  • Powder-coated cold-rolled steel

Key specifications

Why we recommend it

Owners of a recent Timberline or Ironwood who plate, sauce and rest meat at the grill and are tired of walking back to the kitchen.

Skip it if you own a Woodridge, a Silverton XL or a grill with no rail, because Traeger says it will not fit.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Large work surface
  • Stows flat against the grill
  • No tools for daily on and off

Cons

  • Short compatibility list
  • First-time bracket assembly
  • No stated weight limit

3. Traeger P.A.L. Storage Bin – Rubs and Sauces Within Reach

Best for the railTraeger Grills BAC642 P.A.L. Pop-and-Lock Storage Bin Grill Accessory

The storage bin is the simplest way to use a P.A.L. rail. It snaps on without tools and holds whatever you keep walking back for: rubs, sauces, a thermometer, a pair of shears. Traeger gives the size as 12.8 by 6.3 by 3.5 inches and says it comfortably fits up to six of its rub tins.

The material is cold-rolled steel with a heat-resistant powder coat, so it should stand up to life beside a hot grill. That said, it sits close to the cook box, so we would keep nothing in it that minds heat.

Fit is wider here than for the XL shelf. Traeger’s page lists the Timberline, Ironwood, Woodridge, Westwood and Silverton XL lines plus the Flatrock. The older wording on the Amazon listing is narrower, naming only the 2022 Timberline, the 2023 Ironwood and the Flatrock, so go by Traeger’s own list and check your model there.

Why we like it

  • Snaps on without tools
  • Holds up to six Traeger rub tins
  • Moves anywhere on the rail
  • Fits more models than the XL shelf

Why we recommend it

Rail owners who have rubs, sauces and small tools scattered around the patio. It is the low-commitment way to find out how much you like the rail system.

Skip it if your grill has no P.A.L. rail, because it attaches to nothing else.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Fast on and off
  • Wide list of rail grills
  • Useful size

Cons

  • Rail grills only
  • Amazon and Traeger fit lists differ
  • Sits close to the heat

4. Traeger Deep Cleaning Kit – One Box for the Big Clean

Best for a deep cleanTraeger Grills Deep Cleaning Kit

A brush handles the grate. It does not touch grease on the rest of the grill, and on a pellet grill that buildup is worth dealing with. This kit puts the seasonal clean in one box: a 16-ounce exterior detailing spray, a 16-ounce foaming degreaser, a scraper, a scrub pad, two microfiber towels and a pair of nitrile gloves.

Traeger says the kit is designed for use on wood pellet grills and helps remove grease and grime inside and out. The Amazon listing title adds a warning worth reading twice: the degreaser is not for cast iron. If you own cast iron grates or griddle parts, keep it away from them.

Traeger’s product page does not include directions for where each cleaner goes, so read the labels on the bottles before you start, and keep the degreaser off anything you do not mean to treat. Everything in the box except the towels and tools will run out, so think of it as a kit you replace or refill rather than buy once.

Why we like it

  • Two cleaners and the tools in one box
  • Made for pellet grills
  • Gloves and towels included
  • Scraper and scrub pad for stuck grease

Key specifications

Model BAC805
Fits Wood pellet grills; degreaser not for cast iron

Size 16 oz spray and degreaser (listing)
What it does Deep clean inside and out

Why we recommend it

Owners who cook often and want a proper clean once or twice a season without shopping for each piece. It also makes a sensible gift for someone with a new Traeger.

Skip it if you already keep degreaser and microfiber on the shelf, because the kit mostly saves you the shopping.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Everything arrives together
  • Designed for pellet grills
  • Includes hand protection

Cons

  • Not for cast iron
  • No directions on Traeger’s page
  • Cleaners run out

5. Traeger BBQ Shears – Cuts Through Skin and Bone

Best toolTraeger Grills BAC535 BBQ Grilling Shears Grill Accessory

Shears do jobs a knife does awkwardly at the grill: cutting the backbone from a chicken before it goes on, snipping butcher’s twine, trimming a rack of ribs, or portioning chicken at the table. Traeger’s shears have titanium-coated blades and a non-slip grip, and the listing says they cut through skin and bone.

The practical detail is the take-apart design. Poultry fat and sauce collect at a pivot, and shears that open up can be cleaned properly, which is what a kitchen wants from any tool that touches raw chicken. There is also a bottle opener built in, a small extra for a cookout.

Unlike the rail pieces, these fit any grill, because they never touch it. Traeger does not state a blade length or say whether the shears are dishwasher safe, so wash them by hand until you know more. Our best grill tools guide covers the wider kit if you want tongs and forks as well.

Why we like it

  • Titanium-coated blades
  • Comes apart for cleaning
  • Non-slip grip
  • Built-in bottle opener

Key specifications

Model BAC535
Fits Any grill
Material Titanium-coated blades
Size Not stated
What it does Cuts skin and bone
In the box 1 pair of shears
Care Take apart to clean
Warranty Not stated

Why we recommend it

Anyone who cooks whole chickens or big cuts on a pellet grill. Spatchcocking a bird is one of the better things to do on a Traeger, and shears make that easy.

Skip it if you already own good kitchen shears that come apart, since these do the same job.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Fits any grill
  • Cleans properly
  • Handy for poultry

Cons

  • No stated blade length
  • Dishwasher use not stated
  • Opener is a gimmick for some

6. Traeger Stainless Steel BBQ Spatula – Long Reach for Burgers and Fish

Best spatulaTraeger Grills BAC789 Stainless Steel BBQ Spatula Grill Accessory

Burgers and fish mean reaching across a hot grate, often toward the back. Traeger’s spatula is 17 inches long, per the listing, which keeps your hand back from the heat when you move burgers or fish.

The listing describes stainless steel construction, a strong dishwasher-safe handle and a hook for hanging. That hook matters if you have a P.A.L. rail with Traeger’s accessory hooks, because it gives the spatula a place to live, though the listing itself does not mention pairing them.

It is a plain tool, and that is its appeal. It does not need a rail or a certain model. If you already own a long grill spatula, this adds nothing new. If yours is a short kitchen turner, a longer one is a real change, especially when you are working toward the back of a large grate.

Why we like it

  • 17-inch reach
  • Stainless steel
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Hanging hook

Key specifications

Model BAC789
Fits Any grill
Material Stainless steel
Size 17 in long
What it does Flips and moves food

Care Dishwasher safe

Why we recommend it

Traeger owners who cook burgers, fish fillets or vegetables and want one long, simple turner by the grill.

Skip it if you cook mainly low-and-slow cuts, since tongs and gloves see more use on those days.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Fits any grill
  • Long reach
  • Easy to clean

Cons

  • Head size not stated
  • Basic feature set

7. Traeger Flat Top Grill Essentials Kit – Griddle Tools in One Set

Best for flat topsTraeger Grills Flat Top Grill Essentials Kit – 2 Spatulas

This kit is only for people who cook on a flat surface. Traeger lists it for its Flatrock flat top grills and Irontop griddles, and it is the right pick for those owners, not for someone with only a standard pellet grill grate.

It has four pieces: a scraper, a solid spatula, a slotted spatula and one squeeze bottle. The steel tools are heavy-duty stainless, the squeeze bottle is BPA-free plastic, and Traeger says all the tools are dishwasher safe. The scraper also chops food on the griddle, which is how you would break up onions, peppers or a smash burger on the steel.

For a Mexican kitchen, this is the set we would think of for fajita vegetables, carne asada and quesadillas on a griddle. The squeeze bottle earns its place too, for oil or for water to steam onions. If you want a wider list for any brand of griddle, see our best outdoor griddle accessories guide.

Why we like it

  • Four griddle tools in one set
  • Stainless spatulas and scraper
  • Dishwasher safe per Traeger
  • Includes a squeeze bottle

Key specifications

Model BAC847
Fits Flatrock and Irontop griddles (Traeger)
Material Stainless steel; BPA-free plastic bottle
Size Not stated
What it does Flips, chops and scrapes on a griddle
In the box Scraper, 2 spatulas, 1 squeeze bottle
Care Dishwasher safe
Warranty Not stated

Why we recommend it

New Flatrock or Irontop owners who want a matched set from day one instead of buying tools one at a time.

Skip it if you have no griddle surface, because a scraper and a griddle spatula do little on grill grates.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Complete starter set
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Slotted and solid spatulas

Cons

  • Griddle owners only
  • Sizes not stated
  • Only one squeeze bottle

8. Traeger Silicone Basting Brush – Sauces Without Shedding

Best for saucingTraeger Grills BAC418 Silicone Basting Brush for Sauces & Marinades

The last stretch of a smoke is when you sauce, and this is a small tool for that moment. Traeger’s basting brush is silicone, so there are no natural bristles to fall out, and the listing says it never sheds, so sauce goes on thick without worry.

The listing calls it durable, high-heat resistant and dishwasher safe. It does not give a temperature rating or a length, so hold it above the grate rather than resting it inside. Silicone does not soak up sauce the way natural bristles do, which makes it easy to wash but means you may need more dips for a thin mop.

We include it because it finishes the kit, not because it is special. It will do a glaze on ribs or a guajillo sauce on chicken, and it goes through the dishwasher afterward. For more choices, including longer handles, see our guide to the best basting brush for grilling.

Why we like it

  • Silicone does not shed
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Listing calls it high heat resistant
  • Works on any grill

Key specifications

Model BAC418
Fits Any grill
Material Silicone
Size Not stated
What it does Brushes on sauces and marinades

Why we recommend it

Anyone who glazes ribs or wings at the end of a cook and wants a brush that goes in the dishwasher.

Skip it if you want a long handle or a stated heat rating, because the listing gives neither.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Easy to clean
  • No bristles to shed
  • Fits any grill

Cons

  • No stated heat rating
  • No stated length
  • Holds less thin sauce than a mop

How to choose Traeger accessories that fit

Find out whether you have a P.A.L. rail

P.A.L. stands for Pop-And-Lock. Traeger describes it as a built-in rail that locks shelves, hooks and bins into place without tools, and says it is available only on newer Timberline, Ironwood, Woodridge and Flatrock grills. Other Traeger product pages also list the Westwood and Silverton XL for certain rail parts. If your grill does not have the rail, every P.A.L. accessory is out.

Check each part against your model

Having a rail does not mean every rail part fits. The table below shows the difference between the two rail pieces we picked, using Traeger’s product pages. Traeger changes its range often, so check the current product page for your exact grill.

Grill P.A.L. Storage Bin Folding Front Shelf XL
Timberline, Timberline XL Yes Yes
Ironwood, Ironwood XL Yes Yes
Woodridge, Woodridge Pro, Woodridge Elite Yes No
Westwood, Westwood XL Yes Not listed
Silverton XL Yes No
Flatrock Yes Not listed

Buy cleaning before convenience

A clean grate and a clean grill matter more than a shelf. Start with the brush, add the deep cleaning kit when grease builds up, and buy the rail parts once you know what you keep reaching for.

Think about tools last

The shears, spatula and basting brush fit any grill, and they do the same jobs as good tools from any other maker. Buy them if you need them or like the matching set, not because the Traeger name makes them work better on a Traeger.

How we narrowed the catalog to eight

We kept only Traeger-branded accessories that were in stock on Amazon when we checked, and we dropped the four Traeger items already in our pellet grill accessories guide. Fit and specifications come from Traeger’s product pages and the Amazon listings, and where those disagree we say so. We left out food items such as rubs, and third-party parts sold as Traeger-compatible, because we could not confirm their fit. We did not cook with these accessories for this guide, and nothing here says Julia’s uses them. Traeger does not sponsor this page.

Traeger accessory questions, answered

What are the best Traeger grill accessories to buy first?

Start with something for cleaning, such as the Steam N’ Clean brush, since it works on most grills. Then look at the rail parts if your grill has a rail, and pellet storage from our pellet grill accessories guide.

Do Traeger accessories fit all Traeger grills?

No. Tools like the shears fit any grill, but shelves and P.A.L. parts are tied to specific models. Traeger’s product pages list what each one fits.

What is the Traeger P.A.L. rail?

It is a built-in rail on newer Traeger grills that accepts snap-on shelves, hooks, bins and more without tools. Traeger sells the accessories for it separately.

Can I add a P.A.L. rail to an older Traeger?

We found no Traeger accessory that adds a rail to an older grill. Traeger says the rail is available only on certain newer grills, so ask Traeger’s support team about your model before buying rail parts.

Can I use the Steam N’ Clean brush on any grate?

The listing names stainless steel grates, porcelain grates and flat top griddles, and says it works at 450°F and below. Cast iron is not named, so check with Traeger first if you have it.

Is the deep cleaning kit safe for cast iron?

The degreaser is not, according to the Amazon listing title. Keep it off any cast iron, and read the bottle labels for the other surfaces.

Our final pick for a Traeger owner

Buy the Steam N’ Clean brush if you buy one thing, add the Folding Front Shelf XL if your Timberline or Ironwood can take it, and let the rest follow what you cook. If the grill is doing brisket for tacos or a whole chicken on a Sunday, the shears and the basting brush will get used. The rest of the setup is in our best pellet grill accessories guide, along with a good thermometer, and you can read about the best smoker pellets for the fuel. And when the grill is cold and dinner still needs to happen, see the menu or call to order.
