Tray, Silicone or Felt? The Best Under Sink Mat for Your Cabinet

The best under sink mat depends on your plumbing and cabinet depth. Compare Rev-A-Shelf, Xtreme Mats, Drymate and more by size and stated capacity.

A modern kitchen counter with a sink and appliances
A kitchen counter with a sink and appliances.

The cabinet under a sink is where a slow drip goes unnoticed. A loose fitting, a leaky bottle of dish soap or a tired disposal can swell a cabinet floor well before anybody opens the door. A mat won’t fix a leak, but it can keep the water off the wood long enough for you to see it.

Most of these look alike in the listings, and few of them tell you how much they hold. So we sorted them by what the makers actually state: size, depth, and capacity where it’s given. For what goes on top of the mat, see our best under sink organizer guide.

Quick verdict: the best under sink mat for most kitchens

For most standard kitchen sink bases, buy the Rev-A-Shelf Trim-to-Fit Drip Tray: it states its cabinet fit, trim limits and capacity. For the largest stated capacity, look at Xtreme Mats, but check its depth. For pipes through the cabinet floor, the Famous Dino silicone mat is the simplest to cut.

Our picks for the best under sink mat

1. Rev-A-Shelf Trim-to-Fit Sink Base Drip Tray – Built for 33 to 36-Inch Cabinets

Best overallRev-A-Shelf Trim-to-Custom-Fit Drip Tray for Under Kitchen Sink

Rev-A-Shelf makes cabinet hardware, and this tray is sized around the cabinet instead of a generic rectangle. It measures 34.5 inches wide by 23.25 inches deep and 0.75 inch high, and the maker says it fits sink base cabinets from 33 to 36 inches. You can trim it with scissors, but not below 31.5 by 21.5 inches, so measure before you order. It holds up to 1.75 quarts.

The tray is made from a rubber-like TPE, and it’s meant to funnel water and make a leak easy to spot. Here is the part to read twice: for a watertight seal, Rev-A-Shelf says to run silicone sealant, which isn’t included, around the edges and every plumbing cutout. That’s a small job, but it is a job. Without the sealant, treat it as a drip catcher.

We put it first because it’s the only pick here with a stated fit range for kitchen sink bases, a stated capacity and clear limits. Its 1.75 quarts is well under the Xtreme claim below, so it buys you time for a drip, not for a burst hose.

Why we like it

  • Stated fit for 33 to 36-inch base cabinets
  • Trims with scissors to a stated minimum
  • Capacity of 1.75 quarts is given
  • Resists most household chemicals, per the maker

Why we recommend it

It suits a homeowner with a standard 33 to 36-inch sink base who will cut around the plumbing and seal it once.

Skip it if you want something you can drop in and forget, or your cabinet is outside that size range.

2. Xtreme Mats Under Sink Mat, 34.25 x 19.25 Inches – The Largest Stated Capacity Here

Best for capacityXTREME MATS Waterproof Undersink Mat (Grey 34" 1/4 x 19 1/4) Cabinet Base Liner for Bathroom Vanity Cabinets Catches Leaks Prevents Damage Flexible Driptray

Xtreme Mats is the maker most people find first, and under sink mats are the product it leads with. The mat is low-density polyethylene with raised, angled walls and a textured floor, and it’s flexible enough to fold through a cabinet opening. Xtreme says its mats can hold up to 3.6 gallons of liquid. That number is for the line, and the listing doesn’t say which size reaches it, so don’t assume this one does.

Depth is the catch for a kitchen page. Xtreme’s own sizing is length by 22 inches for kitchen cabinets and by 19 inches for bathroom vanities, and this in-stock listing is the 19-inch depth. It will fit in a deeper kitchen cabinet, but it leaves a gap at the back. The 22-inch versions we looked at were low in stock when we checked, so look for one first if you have a full-depth cabinet.

It also doesn’t cut neatly around plumbing without work. Xtreme asks you to check for supply lines or a drain coming through the cabinet floor, since the mat would then need changes.

Why we like it

  • Stated capacity of up to 3.6 gallons for the line
  • Limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects
  • Folds to fit through a cabinet opening
  • Sold directly by Xtreme Mats

Key specifications

Stated capacity Up to 3.6 gal. for the line
Trim to fit Not stated; plumbing may need changes
Cleaning Remove and clean
Warranty or origin Limited lifetime; designed in USA

Why we recommend it

It suits a cabinet with plumbing coming from the back wall, where a raised wall and a real warranty count for more than a perfect fit.

Skip it if your pipes come up through the floor, or you want full coverage in a 22-inch deep cabinet.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Maker-backed warranty
  • Largest stated capacity on this page
  • Rigid enough to hold water

Cons

  • This listing is the shallower depth
  • Capacity not stated for this exact size
  • Floor plumbing means modifying it

3. Gorilla Grip Silicone Under Sink Mat, 34 x 22 Inches – A Full-Depth Silicone Mat

Best siliconeGORILLA GRIP Waterproof Silicone Under Sink Mat

This is a 34 by 22-inch silicone mat with a 0.7-inch raised lip, and the depth suits a kitchen cabinet. Gorilla Grip says the lip is reinforced with added strips to keep its shape, and there are small grip dots on top to keep bottles from sliding. The mat goes in the dishwasher, which is a real advantage after a spilled bottle of cleaner.

The listing doesn’t state a capacity, so we can’t tell you how much it holds. It does offer many other sizes, including 28 by 22 and 19 by 22, so you can get close to your cabinet without much cutting. It says a third party checked it as BPA free. That is the seller’s statement, and it names nobody.

Gorilla Grip is an Amazon-first brand, from Hills Point Industries, and we count it that way. We’d still take it over most of the look-alike silicone mats, because its listing is specific about the lip and sizes. If you want a stated capacity, the Famous Dino below gives one.

Why we like it

  • Full 22-inch depth
  • 0.7-inch reinforced lip
  • Dishwasher safe, per the listing
  • Several sizes available

Key specifications

Model 840316708449
Type Silicone mat with lip
Material Silicone
Size 34 x 22 in.
Stated capacity Not stated
Trim to fit Not stated
Cleaning Dishwasher safe

Why we recommend it

It suits a kitchen where bottles get pulled in and out all day and the mat will get dirty more often than it gets flooded.

Skip it if you need a capacity figure in writing, or you want a maker with a stated warranty.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Fits a full-depth cabinet
  • Easy to clean
  • Grip dots hold bottles in place

Cons

  • No stated capacity
  • No stated trim guidance
  • Amazon-first brand

4. Famous Dino Silicone Under Sink Mat, 34 x 22.5 Inches – Silicone That Trims Around Pipes

Best for floor plumbingThe Original Under Sink Mat - Silicone Waterproof mat

The useful thing in this listing is that it tells you how to cut it. The mat measures 34 inches wide by 22.5 deep, and the seller says it fits a standard 36-inch cabinet and can come down to 30.75 or 28 inches wide and 20.75 deep. It says you can cut around pipes with scissors or a utility knife, and that it doesn’t need sealing because the silicone lies flat.

It gives a capacity, too: up to 1.5 gallons. Once you cut a hole for a pipe, that figure no longer means much, since water can leave through the hole. We’d treat a cut mat as protection against bottle spills and small drips, and look to the Rev-A-Shelf sealing method if you want a tighter job around pipes.

Famous Dino is an Amazon-first brand, and the second and last one we allow on this page. There is no warranty in the listing. The maker calls the silicone BPA free and suitable around people and pets, which we pass on as its claim.

Why we like it

  • Stated trim widths and depth
  • Stated capacity of up to 1.5 gallons
  • Can be cut around pipes
  • Sold directly by the brand

Key specifications

Model FMO02
Type Silicone mat with lip

Stated capacity Up to 1.5 gal.
Trim to fit Yes, to 28 in. wide and 20.75 in. deep
Cleaning Wipes clean; removes for washing
Warranty or origin Not stated

Why we recommend it

It suits a cabinet where the supply lines or drain come up through the floor, because silicone is simple to cut and refit.

Skip it if you want a brand with a stated warranty or a longer record.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Clear cutting guidance
  • Fits a 36-inch cabinet as sold
  • Capacity is stated

Cons

  • Cutting for pipes reduces real capacity
  • No stated warranty
  • Amazon-first brand

5. Drymate Under Sink Mat, 24 x 29 Inches – An Absorbent Mat Made in the USA

Best absorbent matDrymate Premium Under Sink Mat

Drymate takes a different approach. Instead of holding a puddle behind a lip, the mat absorbs liquid into a non-woven polyester top, which the maker says is more than 50% recycled fiber, over a waterproof backing. You cut it with scissors and the edges won’t fray, according to Drymate, and it’s made in the USA. For cleaning, machine wash without bleach and hang it to dry, or rinse and scrub with soap.

This is one of the few picks with outside evidence behind it. The Everyday Old House blog bought this and a Gorilla Grip felt mat and put them in its own cabinets. Each got about a third of a cup of water, the surface below stayed dry, and neither moved over a few weeks. The writer found Drymate slightly thicker and earns affiliate commissions, though neither company paid for the post. It’s one person’s home comparison, and we read it as that.

No capacity is stated, and it’s the wrong thing for a real leak. Absorbent fabric handles drips and damp bottles. It won’t hold water the way a walled tray can, so put it where your worry is a messy shelf.

Why we like it

  • Made in the USA, per the maker
  • Cuts with scissors
  • Machine washable
  • Did well in one blog’s home comparison

Key specifications

Model USMC2429
Type Absorbent fabric mat
Material Polyester top, waterproof backing
Size 24 x 29 in.
Stated capacity Not stated
Trim to fit Yes, with scissors
Cleaning Machine wash, no bleach, hang dry
Warranty or origin Warranty not stated; USA made

Why we recommend it

It suits a cabinet full of bottles, where the mess is drips and rings instead of leaks.

Skip it if your real concern is a hose or a disposal failing, which calls for a walled tray.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Soft surface for bottles
  • Very easy to fit
  • Washes and goes back in

Cons

  • No raised lip
  • No stated capacity
  • Not meant to hold a leak

6. Drymate XL Under Sink Mat, 24 x 59 Inches – Enough Mat for a Long Cabinet Run

Best for long runsDrymate Premium XL Under Sink Mat

The XL is the same Drymate material at 24 by 59 inches, which is the second standard size the maker offers. We include it because the use is different. Rather than one sink base, it can run along a double cabinet, or be cut into two or three pieces for a sink base and the shelves beside it. The maker says you can cut or combine pieces to fit.

All the same limits apply: an absorbent top, a waterproof backing and no raised edge. This color is light grey, which will show marks sooner than a dark one, so choose by how much you mind that. Care is the same too, with a machine wash, no bleach and hanging to dry. A mat this long takes up a fair amount of washer space, so cutting it first helps.

If you only have one standard sink cabinet, buy the smaller size. There’s no point paying for fabric you will cut off and throw away.

Why we like it

  • Long enough for a double cabinet
  • Can be cut into several shelves’ worth
  • Made in the USA, per the maker
  • Same washable material as the smaller mat

Key specifications

Model Not stated
Type Absorbent fabric mat
Material Polyester top, waterproof backing
Size 24 x 59 in.
Stated capacity Not stated
Trim to fit Yes, with scissors
Cleaning Machine wash, no bleach, hang dry
Warranty or origin Warranty not stated; USA made

Why we recommend it

It suits a long sink base or a whole row of lower cabinets that need the same liner.

Skip it if you have one standard sink cabinet, where the smaller mat is enough.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Covers more cabinet per mat
  • Cut to fit
  • Washable

Cons

  • No lip
  • Light color shows marks
  • More than most sink cabinets need

7. Gorilla Grip LeakGuard Felt Mat, 24 x 30 Inches – Felt That Admits Its Limit

Best thin linerGORILLA GRIP LeakGuard Under Sink Mat for Cabinets

This is Gorilla Grip’s felt mat, and it’s a different product from its silicone one. The top is absorbent felt and the bottom is a waterproof layer. The maker says a third party found it holds up to 0.38 cups of liquid. That is a small number, but we appreciate that it’s there, since most fabric liners give no figure at all.

It trims with scissors, goes in the washing machine and shouldn’t go in the dryer. The Everyday Old House comparison we mentioned found it slightly easier to cut than the Drymate, slower to air dry and offered in more sizes and designs. The writer’s bottom line was that you can’t go wrong with either, which is fair for this kind of liner.

Think of it as a tidy shelf liner with a waterproof back. A third of a cup is a spill from a bottle, and not a plumbing problem.

Why we like it

  • Gives a stated figure of 0.38 cups
  • Waterproof bottom layer
  • Machine washable
  • Trims with scissors

Key specifications

Model 840029627471
Type Absorbent felt mat
Material Felt top, waterproof backing
Size 24 x 30 in.
Stated capacity 0.38 cups
Trim to fit Yes, with scissors
Cleaning Machine wash, no dryer
Warranty or origin Not stated

Why we recommend it

It suits someone who wants a clean-looking cabinet floor and handles small spills.

Skip it if you are guarding against a leak, since it won’t hold much.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Simple to fit
  • Thin and light
  • Honest stated capacity

Cons

  • Very little capacity
  • No raised lip
  • Amazon-first brand, same as the silicone mat

8. Con-Tact Brand Under Sink Mat, 24 x 48 Inches – A Plain Vinyl Liner From a Known Name

Best basic linerCon-Tact Brand Under Sink Mat

Con-Tact, from Kittrich, is a name many people know from shelf liners. This is a non-adhesive woven-pattern vinyl mat at 24 by 48 inches, in graphite, that you cut to size. It lies flat with nothing to stick down, and you clean it with water and a cloth. It’s waterproof, so a spill stays on top until you wipe it up.

There isn’t a lip listed, and there’s no capacity, so water can run off the edge once it reaches one. That is fine for its job, which is protecting the cabinet floor from rings, bottle residue and scratches. It’s also sold by Amazon, which keeps the seller side simple.

At 48 inches long, it gives you plenty to trim and can cover a sink base and a little more. For more on liners in general, see our guide to the best shelf liner.

Why we like it

  • Known liner brand
  • Cuts to any size
  • Wipes clean with a cloth
  • Sold by Amazon

Key specifications

Model KTCH-CUSM02-06
Type Flat vinyl liner
Material Vinyl
Size 24 x 48 in.
Stated capacity Not stated; no lip listed

Skip it if you want any real protection from a leak.

Cons

  • No raised edge listed
  • Doesn’t hold water
  • Won’t absorb either

Tray, silicone or fabric: which kind do you need?

There are really three products sold under this one name. A walled tray, like the Rev-A-Shelf or Xtreme, is built to hold water. A silicone mat with a lip does some of that and is much easier to cut and wash. A fabric or vinyl liner protects the floor of the cabinet from spills and scuffs, but has little or no holding power.

So start with your worry. If you have an old disposal or supply lines you don’t trust, choose a wall. If you just have sticky bottles, a liner is fine, and you’ll be happier washing it.

A brown wooden kitchen cabinet with a sink
Wood cabinets around a kitchen sink.

How to choose a mat for under your sink

Measure inside the cabinet. Measure the floor, not the door opening, and check width and depth. Kitchen sink bases tend to run deeper than bathroom vanities, and Xtreme Mats sizes its line that way, at 22 and 19 inches.

Look down at the plumbing. If pipes come out of the back wall, a solid tray drops right in. If they come up through the floor, you’ll need to cut, and silicone is the easiest material to work with.

Treat capacity carefully. A figure only applies to an uncut mat on a level floor. Each hole you make for a pipe gives water another way out, unless you seal it.

Think about cleaning. Silicone may go in the dishwasher, fabric goes in the washing machine, and a tray or vinyl liner gets wiped. Pick the one you will actually clean.

Don’t rely on any mat alone. A mat only gives you time. If you find water on it, find the leak. Check the area now and then, and consider a leak sensor if the cabinet is one you rarely open.

How we picked these eight mats

We checked stock, condition and seller through the Amazon API and read each listing. One search for independent reviews found mostly seller pages. The one independent source we read and use is a home comparison on the Everyday Old House blog of the Drymate and Gorilla Grip felt mats, and it is a single person’s experience. Nothing here has been used in our kitchen, and capacity figures are the makers’ own.

We left out the many similar silicone mats from brands we couldn’t identify, and we kept Amazon-first brands to two: Gorilla Grip and Famous Dino. The second Xtreme size and the older, stiffer Rev-A-Shelf tray stayed off the list because they repeat a pick. The two Drymate sizes are one material, included because they solve different problems.

Under sink mat questions, answered

Will an under sink mat stop a cabinet leak?

No. It catches or absorbs what escapes, which gives you time to notice. The leak itself still needs fixing.

What size do I need for a 36-inch sink base?

Measure the inside first, since cabinet walls take up width. Rev-A-Shelf’s tray is listed for 33 to 36-inch bases, and Famous Dino’s 34-inch mat is listed for a 36-inch cabinet.

How do I fit a mat around pipes?

Cut a mat that’s meant to be cut, such as silicone, or a tray with stated trim limits. Rev-A-Shelf says to seal cutouts with silicone sealant for a watertight fit.

Is silicone better than a fabric mat?

It depends on the job. Silicone with a lip holds some liquid and washes easily. Fabric absorbs drips and is quieter under bottles, but won’t hold a real leak.

Should I also filter water under the sink?

That is a separate job. If you run a filter in the same cabinet, our best under sink water filter guide covers the options, and a mat under the fittings is a sensible addition.

Our final pick for the sink cabinet

Buy the Rev-A-Shelf tray if your cabinet fits its range and you don’t mind running a bead of sealant. If you only want a clean, washable floor, take a Drymate and be done. Our best sink mat guide covers the other kind, the one that goes inside the sink.
