LG’s part numbers look alike and do not interchange. LT1000P, LT800P, LT700P, LT600P and LT500P are five different cartridges, and the one in your fridge is the only one that matters. Start there, and most of the decision is already made.
After that, it comes down to genuine or compatible, and what each filter actually claims. Some of the best-documented compatibles here name their certifier; some genuine LG listings say less than you would expect. We report it all as stated, because this water goes in the glass on your table and the ice in your agua fresca, and you deserve the plain version.

Quick verdict: which LG filter to buy
The best water filter for LG refrigerator owners is LG’s own part for your number when it is in stock. For most that is the LG LT1000P, and LG’s listing names NSF International for NSF 42, 53 and 401. For LT800P, use the LG LT800P. When a genuine filter was not in stock, as with LT700P singles, LT600P and LT500P when we checked, the Culligan CUL700 and CUL600 stand out because they name IAPMO R&T as the certifier.

Find your LG filter number
Your old cartridge, or the manual, gives the number. Look for LT followed by digits, or an ADQ or 5231JA number. Compatible listings often print all of them. The Waterdrop listing, for example, lists LT1000P, LT1000PC, LT1000PCS, ADQ74793501 and MDJ64844601 together, and Kenmore numbers too, since some Kenmore fridges take the same cartridge.
Do not confuse water filters with LG’s LT120F, which is an air filter for the fridge compartment. Bundles that include one are common on Amazon. It is a separate part with a separate job, and it does nothing for your water.

What the certifications tell you, and what they do not
Filter listings throw around a lot of numbers, so it helps to read them as the listings themselves explain them. Amazon Basics describes NSF/ANSI 42 as covering chlorine, taste and odor, and 372 as covering lead-free materials. Waterdrop describes 53 as covering reductions such as lead and mercury, and 401 as covering substances such as bisphenol A and some pharmaceuticals. A filter with only 42 and 372 is a taste filter with lead-free parts. It is not making the claims a 53 filter makes.
Also look at who is certifying. Some listings name NSF International or IAPMO R&T, some name neither, and some say only “certified”. LG’s LT1000P listing is the clearest in this guide, naming NSF International and all three standards. We report each claim as it is stated and have not confirmed compatible brands’ certificates in a directory ourselves. If a claim matters to you, look the model up in the certifier’s own listing before you buy. None of this tells you what is in your own water; your water utility’s annual report is the place to start.
Our picks for the best water filter for LG refrigerator owners
Genuine LG filters come first, followed by compatibles for the numbers where genuine was out, and then alternatives to the LT1000P.
1. LG LT1000P Genuine Filter 2 Pack – Maker-Certified for LT1000P

The LT1000P is the number on many LG fridges, and this listing is the 2 pack. It is rated for six months or 200 gallons, and the listing describes NSF-certified LG filters that reduce contaminants, including 99.99 percent of cysts and 99 percent of asbestos.
This listing does not spell out the standards, but LG’s single-pack listing does: it says only genuine LG filters are certified by NSF International to NSF 42, NSF 53 and NSF 401. It is one of the few places in this category where a maker names both the certifier and the standards.
We cover the single pack in our refrigerator water filter guide. It was low in stock when we checked, and the 2 pack is the same filter from Amazon itself, with a year’s supply. The warranty field on this listing says 90 days, shorter than the one year on the single pack.
Why we like it
- LG names NSF International with 42, 53 and 401
- Sold by Amazon when we checked
- A year’s supply at LG’s interval
- Genuine LG part
Key specifications
| Part number | LT1000P (ADQ74793501) |
|---|---|
| Fits (as stated) | LG fridges that take LT1000P |
| Install style | Not stated |
| Certifications (as stated) | NSF 42, 53, 401, NSF International (LG single-pack listing) |
| Filter life | 6 months or 200 gal |
| Genuine or compatible | Genuine LG |
| Pack size | 2 |
| Warranty | 90 days (listing field) |
Why we recommend it
It suits anyone whose filter says LT1000P, ADQ74793501 or a related number and who wants a straightforward, maker-certified purchase.
Skip it if your cartridge is LT700P, LT800P, LT600P or LT500P. They are different parts.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Strong, specific maker statement
- Simple seller
- Two filters in one box
Cons
- Short warranty field
- 200 gallons is less than some others
- Only for this number
2. LG LT800P Genuine Filter – Slim Cartridge for LT800P Fridges

The LT800P is the other genuine LG filter we could find in stock. The title gives everything that matters: six months or 200 gallons, NSF 42 and NSF 53, and part numbers ADQ73613401, ADQ73613408 and ADQ75795104. It measures 1.8 by 1.8 by 7 inches.
That is a shorter claim than the LT1000P’s, as it names no NSF 401. It is also a thin listing with almost no other detail, and it does not name the certifier.
One thing to check: the listing’s model field reads LT800P3, which on LG’s other listings means a 3 pack, while the title does not state a count. Look at the offer page before you buy, and check the seller, which was a third-party dealer when we looked.
Why we like it
- NSF 42 and 53 in the title
- Part numbers printed in the title
- Six-month or 200-gallon rating
- Genuine LG part
Key specifications
| Part number | LT800P (ADQ73613401) |
|---|---|
| Fits (as stated) | LG fridges that take LT800P |
| Install style | Not stated |
| Certifications (as stated) | NSF 42, 53 (title; certifier not named) |
| Filter life | 6 months or 200 gal |
| Genuine or compatible | Genuine LG |
| Pack size | Unclear; model field reads LT800P3 |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits owners with an LT800P cartridge who want the maker’s part.
Skip it if you want a clear listing. Pack count and seller both need checking here.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Maker’s own part
- Standards in the title
- Part numbers to match
Cons
- Thin listing
- Pack count unclear
- Third-party seller when checked
3. Culligan CUL700 Replacement for LG LT700P – Names Its Certifier

Culligan is a long-established name in water treatment, and this is a compatible filter for the LT700P slot. It is the most useful compatible on this page for one reason: it names both the certifier and the standards. The listing says it is certified by IAPMO R&T against NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401.
It says it filters more than 50 impurities, including lead, asbestos, chlorine taste and odor, eight pharmaceuticals and cysts, and it adds that substances reduced are not necessarily in all users’ water. Replace it every six months.
Single-pack genuine LT700P filters were not in stock when we checked; LG’s 3 pack is in our main guide if you prefer genuine. This Culligan is sold by Amazon. It claims a compatible fit with select LG French door and side-by-side fridges, so confirm the number first.
Why we like it
- IAPMO R&T named as certifier
- NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 401 (listing)
- Sold by Amazon when we checked
- Established water brand
Key specifications
| Part number | CUL700 |
|---|---|
| Fits (as stated) | In place of LG LT700P |
| Install style | Easy to install (listing) |
| Certifications (as stated) | IAPMO R&T: NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 401 (listing) |
| Filter life | 6 months |
| Genuine or compatible | Compatible |
| Pack size | 1 |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits an LT700P owner who wants a compatible from a known name with a certifier on the label.
Skip it if you only want LG’s own part. See the LT700P 3 pack in our main guide.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Certifier named
- Standards beyond taste
- Simple seller
Cons
- Not backed by LG
- Warranty not stated
- Single pack
4. Culligan CUL600 Replacement for LG LT600P – A Named Option for an Older Number

LT600P fridges have thinner choices: our searches found no genuine LG LT600P in stock, only compatibles. Culligan’s CUL600 is the one we would start with, because it carries the same statement as the CUL700: certified by IAPMO R&T against NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401.
The reduction list and six-month change are the same too, and the listing says it fits select LG French door and side-by-side fridges. Amazon was the seller when we checked.
This is the same maker and format as the pick above, but it is not the same part. It is here because the LT600P slot needs its own answer, and Instapure and ICEPURE also sell compatibles for this number if Culligan is out of stock.
Why we like it
- IAPMO R&T named as certifier
- NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 401 (listing)
- Fills a gap where no genuine was in stock
- Sold by Amazon when we checked
Key specifications
| Part number | CUL600 |
|---|---|
| Fits (as stated) | In place of LG LT600P |
| Install style | Easy to install (listing) |
| Certifications (as stated) | IAPMO R&T: NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 401 (listing) |
| Filter life | 6 months |
| Genuine or compatible | Compatible |
| Pack size | 1 |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits an LT600P owner, for whom a genuine filter may be hard to find.
Skip it if your cartridge says something else. These LG numbers do not interchange.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Certifier named
- Clear replacement interval
- Simple seller
Cons
- Not backed by LG
- Warranty not stated
- Only for this number
5. Instapure LT1000P Compatible Filter – Made in USA, Many Standards Listed

Instapure’s LT1000P compatible claims more standards than LG itself lists: NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 372, 401 and P473, plus CSA B483.1. The listing says it reduces PFOA/PFOS, pharmaceuticals, lead, mercury, BPA and asbestos, and that it is made in the USA by a company in water filtration since 1975.
It uses 0.5 micron carbon block media and matches LG’s rating at six months or 200 gallons. A filter that lasts the same as LG’s but claims more standards sounds like an easy choice, but the listing does not name a certifier, so these remain Instapure’s statements.
Before ordering, look up the model in the certifier’s directory if the 401 and PFOA/PFOS claims are why you are buying it.
Why we like it
- Long standards list (listing)
- Made in USA (listing)
- Same stated life as LG’s filter
- Sold by the brand’s own store
Key specifications
| Part number | REF-IPL-5 |
|---|---|
| Fits (as stated) | In place of LG LT1000P / ADQ74793501 |
| Install style | Not stated |
| Certifications (as stated) | NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 372, 401, P473; CSA B483.1 (listing; certifier not named) |
| Filter life | 6 months or 200 gal |
| Genuine or compatible | Compatible |
| Pack size | 1 |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits an LT1000P owner who wants a US-made compatible with broad claims.
Skip it if you need the certifier named. Culligan and LG name theirs.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Broad claims
- US-made per the listing
- Clear life rating
Cons
- Certifier not named
- Not backed by LG
- Newer listing
6. Amazon Basics LT1000P Replacement 3 Pack – Simple Taste Filter

This is Amazon’s own replacement for the LT1000P and related numbers, and it is honest about its limits. It is certified to NSF 42 and 372, which the listing explains as chlorine, taste and odor reduction and lead-free materials. It claims nothing under NSF 53 or 401.
It uses coconut shell carbon, comes in a 3 pack, and lists both LG and Kenmore part numbers it replaces, including LT1000PC and ADQ74793501.
If you only want better-tasting water and ice, that may be all you need. If you bought your LG filter for lead or cyst reduction, you would be stepping down, so do not treat this as a like-for-like swap for LG’s own filter.
Why we like it
- NSF 42 and 372 stated
- Honest, narrow claims
- 3 pack
- Sold by Amazon
Key specifications
| Part number | EFF-6046-3-S |
|---|---|
| Fits (as stated) | In place of LG LT1000P, LT1000PC, ADQ74793501; Kenmore 46-9980 |
| Install style | Not stated |
| Certifications (as stated) | NSF 42, 372 (listing) |
| Filter life | Not stated |
| Genuine or compatible | Compatible |
| Pack size | 3 |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits an LT1000P owner who cares about taste, not health-effect standards.
Skip it if you want NSF 53 reductions. This listing does not claim them.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Simple seller
- Clear about what it does
- Multi-pack
Cons
- Taste standard only
- Filter life not stated
- Not backed by LG
7. Waterdrop Plus LT1000P Replacement – NSF 401 Claim on a Compatible

Waterdrop’s Plus line claims more than its basic filters. This one replaces LT1000P, LT1000PC and related numbers, including Kenmore 46-9980. The listing says it is certified by NSF and IAPMO, with NSF/ANSI 401 reductions such as bisphenol A and some pharmaceuticals, and NSF/ANSI 53 reductions such as lead, benzene and mercury.
It comes with install stickers to remind you when it is due. It says LG’s name is used for reference only, which is a useful reminder that this is an independent brand.
We report the certification as Waterdrop’s own statement. If it decides your purchase, confirm the model in the certifier’s directory first. The brand also lists a PFAS claim in its title based on third-party testing, which we do not repeat as a fact.
Why we like it
- Names NSF and IAPMO (listing)
- Claims NSF/ANSI 401 and 53
- Install stickers included (listing)
- Sold by the brand’s own store
Key specifications
| Part number | WD-LT1000P |
|---|---|
| Fits (as stated) | In place of LG LT1000P, LT1000PC, ADQ74793501; Kenmore 46-9980 |
| Install style | Not stated |
| Certifications (as stated) | NSF and IAPMO; NSF/ANSI 401, 53 named (listing) |
| Filter life | 6 months or 200 gal |
| Genuine or compatible | Compatible |
| Pack size | 1 |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits an LT1000P owner who wants a compatible naming its certifiers.
Skip it if you would rather not check certificates. LG’s own filter is simpler.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Names its certifiers
- Reductions beyond taste
- Reminder stickers
Cons
- Claims are the seller’s
- Not backed by LG
- Marketing-heavy listing
8. ICEPURE PRO LT500P Replacement – For the LT500P Slot

The genuine LG LT500P was not in stock when we checked, so owners of that number are looking at compatibles anyway. ICEPURE’s PRO version is the tier to choose, because its title claims NSF 401, 53 and 42, and the listing adds 372.
It is more specific than most about who certified what: NSF/ANSI 401 by IAPMO, and 53, 42 and 372 by IAPMO and NSF. The listing also prints reduction percentages that we do not repeat, since we cannot confirm them. It replaces LT500P, 5231JA2002A, ADQ72910911 and Kenmore 9890.
ICEPURE is an online-first filter brand, and all of this is its statement. Compare the part number to your old cartridge, because the “compatible models” line is long.
Why we like it
- Names certifiers by standard (listing)
- Claims NSF 401, 53, 42 and 372
- Fills a gap where genuine was out
- Long list of part numbers to match
Key specifications
| Part number | 5231JA2002A (PRO) |
|---|---|
| Fits (as stated) | In place of LG LT500P, ADQ72910911; Kenmore 9890 |
| Install style | Not stated |
| Certifications (as stated) | IAPMO: 401; IAPMO and NSF: 53, 42, 372 (listing) |
| Filter life | Not stated |
| Genuine or compatible | Compatible |
| Pack size | 1 |
| Warranty | Lifetime wording and 6-month return for defects (listing) |
Why we recommend it
It suits an LT500P owner who can’t find the genuine part and wants a compatible with more than a taste claim.
Skip it if the genuine LG comes back in stock and you prefer it. Check LG’s LT500P listing first.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Standards named one by one
- Fits a hard-to-find slot
- Single pack to try
Cons
- Claims are the seller’s
- Not backed by LG
- Online-first brand

How to choose an LG refrigerator filter
1. Start with the part number
The five LT numbers here do not interchange, and a filter that nearly fits can leak or fail to seat. If in doubt, take a photo of the old cartridge label.
2. Decide genuine or compatible
LG says only its genuine filters are certified by NSF International to its stated standards. Compatibles can cost less and some claim more standards on paper. The certificate and the fit are between you and that seller.
3. Read which standards it claims
A taste filter with NSF 42 and 372 is a different product from a filter claiming 53 and 401. Amazon Basics is open about being the former. Match the claim to why you have a filter.
4. Check the listing details
Pack sizes on LG listings can confuse. The 2 and 3 count numbers show up in model codes, so look at the pack count on the offer you are buying, and at who is selling it.
5. Keep to the change interval
Most listings here say six months, and the LG LT1000P and LT800P also state 200 gallons, whichever comes first. Busy households with a lot of ice may hit gallons first, and a slowed dispenser is a good hint that it is due.

How we picked these eight LG filters
We required a stated fit and a certification, plain in-stock availability with a new lead offer, and we limited online-first brands to two. Genuine LT700P singles and LT500P filters were not in stock when we checked, so those slots are filled by compatibles and we say so. The LT1000P 2 pack is the same filter as the single in our main guide, through a different listing, because the single was low in stock. We did not test these filters, and we make no health claims. We also checked the CPSC recall database by brand and found no recall for these water filters.
LG water filter questions, answered
Which LG water filter do I need?
The one printed on your current cartridge or in your manual. LT1000P, LT800P, LT700P, LT600P and LT500P are all different.
Are compatible LG filters as good as genuine?
We cannot say from listings alone. Some, like Culligan, name a certifier and standards, while others claim only taste. LG says only its genuine filters are certified by NSF International to its stated standards.
How often should I change my LG filter?
Listings here say six months, or 200 gallons on the LT1000P and LT800P. Follow your fridge’s indicator and manual as well.
What does the LT120F do?
It is LG’s refrigerator air filter, not a water filter. Bundles often pair it with a water filter, but you do not need it to filter water.
Is the LG LT1000P NSF certified?
LG’s single-pack listing says it is certified by NSF International to NSF 42, 53 and 401.
