A large wine glass is not about pouring more wine. It is about giving the wine you pour more room: a wide bowl leaves space to swirl a full-bodied red without spilling, and the empty space above the wine collects its aroma. Most glassmakers draw their biggest bowls for Bordeaux and Burgundy reds, and a few make oversized all-purpose glasses that handle red, white and sparkling wine in one shape.
This guide covers glasses of about 22 ounces and up, from large Bordeaux goblets to Burgundy balloons of more than 30 ounces. It is the size-focused companion to our main guide to the best wine glasses, it repeats none of that guide’s picks, and for every crystal glass we say what the maker or its listing states about lead.

Quick verdict: which large wine glass to buy
For most households, the best large wine glasses are the Zwiesel Glas Vervino Allround glasses, set of six: an oversized all-purpose bowl of about 23 ounces in Tritan crystal, which the maker says is made without lead, sold as dishwasher safe and made in Germany. If you want the biggest bowl you can get, the Krosno Splendour holds about 30 ounces. For a large Bordeaux shape, choose the Stölzle Lausitz Celebration, and for a sturdy Burgundy glass that survives a busy sink, the Stölzle Lausitz Event.
The rest of this page explains why, and which glass suits the way you pour.

Our picks for the best wine glasses large enough for big reds
These eight sets all hold about 22 ounces or more, and none repeats a pick from our main wine glass guide or our Cabernet and Pinot Noir guides. They cover an oversized all-purpose glass, two large Bordeaux shapes, three Burgundy-style balloons, a modern long-stemmed glass and a simple set of four. Every one is crystal or Tritan crystal that the maker or its listing describes as lead-free.
1. Zwiesel Glas Vervino Allround Glasses, Set of 6 – One Big Glass for Every Wine

If you want large glasses but don’t want a cupboard full of different shapes, an oversized all-purpose glass is the answer, and the Vervino Allround is the best one we found in stock.
The listing gives a height of 9 inches, a diameter of 4.1 inches and a capacity of about 23 ounces. Zwiesel Glas describes a thin-walled bowl with a deep curve, a fine stem and a wide base, and says the shape gives different grape varieties the space they need. It also has an effervescent point in the bottom of the bowl, and the listing sells it for red, white and sparkling wine alike.
The material is Zwiesel Glas’s Tritan crystal, made in Germany, and the maker says all of its Tritan crystal glasses are manufactured entirely without lead. The listing credits Tritan Glass Protect technology for the glasses’ strength and sells them as dishwasher safe.
At 9 inches it is shorter than most large Bordeaux glasses, which makes it easier to fit on a cabinet shelf and in a dishwasher.
Why we like it
- Oversized all-purpose bowl of about 23 ounces
- Effervescent point for sparkling wine
- Tritan crystal the maker says is made without lead
- Dishwasher safe and made in Germany
- Six glasses in one box

Why we recommend it
It gives a household one large glass for red, white and sparkling wine, in a set of six that goes in the dishwasher, from a maker that states plainly that its crystal contains no lead.
Skip it if you drink mostly big reds and want the tallest Bordeaux bowl; the Stölzle Celebration below is built for that.
Pros and cons
Pros
- One shape for every wine
- Lead-free per the maker
- Dishwasher safe
- Fits most shelves
Cons
- Thin walls need some care
- Not a specialist Bordeaux shape
2. Krosno Splendour Red Wine Glasses, 30.4 oz, Set of 6 – The Biggest Bowl Here

Krosno is a Polish glassmaker, and its Splendour red wine glass is the largest glass on this page: the listing gives a capacity of 900 ml, about 30.4 ounces.
The listing gives a height of 255 mm, about 10 inches, and a diameter of 115 mm, about 4.5 inches. Krosno says the glass suits all types of red wine and especially aromatic Burgundy, the light, perfumed reds that benefit most from a very wide bowl. The slender stem joins a smooth-edged bowl, and the listing describes the material as lead-free crystal glass that resists clouding and mechanical damage.
A glass this size is meant for a small pour in a big space. Even a full standard drink will barely cover the bottom of the bowl, and that is how it should look. The set of six is sold as dishwasher safe, though a 10-inch glass needs a tall top rack or a careful hand wash.
Why we like it
- About 30.4 ounces, the largest here
- Wide bowl for Burgundy and aromatic reds
- Lead-free crystal, per the listing
- Set of six, dishwasher safe
Key specifications

Why we recommend it
It suits someone who drinks Pinot Noir and other aromatic reds and wants the widest bowl possible, at a full set size.
Skip it if your cabinets or dishwasher are short. At about 10 inches tall and 4.5 inches wide, these glasses take real space.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Very large bowl
- Lead-free per the listing
- Set of six
Cons
- Hard to store
- Country of manufacture not stated
- Too big for everyday whites
3. Stölzle Lausitz Celebration Bordeaux Glasses, Set of 6 – Tall Bowl for Bold Reds

The Celebration is Stölzle Lausitz’s large Bordeaux glass, a tall bowl the maker designed for aeration and recommends for full-bodied reds such as Cabernet Sauvignon.
The listing gives each glass a capacity of 23 ounces and describes a tall, wide bowl that allows swirling and directs the aroma toward the nose. Stölzle Lausitz says the glasses are made in Germany from lead-free crystal, and calls them break-resistant and dishwasher safe. Height and width are not stated on this listing.
Stölzle Lausitz has made glass since 1889. Our main guide recommends its angular Power red, and our Cabernet guide its Experience Bordeaux; the Celebration is a different line with a larger bowl than either.
Why we like it
- 23-ounce tall Bordeaux bowl
- Lead-free crystal, made in Germany, per the listing
- Break-resistant and dishwasher safe, per the listing
- Set of six
Key specifications
| Model | Celebration Bordeaux, 1500035-6 |

| Capacity | 23 oz |
| Count | 6 glasses |
| Dimensions | Not stated |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes (listing) |
| Made in | Germany |
| Lead statement | Lead-free crystal (listing) |
Why we recommend it
It suits a household that opens Cabernet, Malbec or a red blend most often and wants a large, classic Bordeaux bowl from an established German glassmaker in a set of six.
Skip it if you need exact dimensions before you buy; the listing gives none, so compare against a tall glass you already own.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Large Bordeaux shape
- Lead-free per the listing
- Made in Germany
Cons
- Dimensions not stated
- Tall glasses need shelf space

4. Stölzle Lausitz Event Burgundy Glasses, Set of 6 – Thicker Walls for Busy Tables

Large glasses break more easily than small ones, simply because there is more glass to knock. The Event Burgundy is Stölzle Lausitz’s answer: a 25-ounce Burgundy balloon with thicker walls, which the listing says suits catering and restaurants as well as home use.
The listing names aged, low-tannin reds such as Brunello, Barolo and Pinot Noir as the wines it is shaped for, and says the bowl gives the wine room to breathe. It describes the glasses as lead-free crystal, sustainably produced in Germany, particularly durable and break-resistant, and dishwasher safe.
The trade-off for thicker walls is a slightly heavier feel at the rim than the thin Vervino or Krosno glasses. For a family table or a party where glasses go straight into the dishwasher, that is a fair exchange.
Why we like it
- Thicker walls, break-resistant, per the listing
- 25-ounce Burgundy balloon
- Lead-free crystal, made in Germany
- Dishwasher safe
Key specifications
| Model | Event Burgundy, 1800000 |

| Dimensions | Not stated |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes (listing) |
| Made in | Germany |
| Lead statement | Lead-free crystal (listing) |
Why we recommend it
It suits a busy household or a host who wants big Burgundy glasses that can take regular dishwasher cycles and the odd knock.
Skip it if you want the thinnest, lightest rim; the Vervino and Krosno glasses are finer.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Durable for daily use
- Lead-free per the listing
- Set of six
Cons
- Heavier feel
- Dimensions not stated
5. Mikasa Lana Bordeaux Glasses, 22 oz, Set of 4 – A Plain, Tall Bowl

Not every large glass has to be a statement piece. The Lana is a plain, tall Bordeaux shape with a large rounded bowl that tapers at the opening, on a thin stem.
The listing gives each glass a height of 9 1/4 inches, a diameter of 4 inches and a capacity of 22 fluid ounces. Mikasa describes the material as lead-free crystal, names Bordeaux, Merlot and Cabernet as the wines it suits, and sells the set as dishwasher safe.
It is a set of four at the small end of the large range on this page, so it fits a cupboard more easily than the 25- and 30-ounce glasses here. For a taco night with a bottle of red on the table, that is plenty of glass.
Why we like it
- Tall bowl that tapers at the opening
- 22-ounce Bordeaux bowl
- Lead-free crystal, per the listing
- Dishwasher safe
Key specifications
| Model | Lana Bordeaux, 5316636 |

| Dishwasher safe | Yes (listing) |

| Lead statement | Lead-free crystal (listing) |
Why we recommend it
It suits hosts who want big red wine glasses in a simple shape for parties and cookouts, without paying for a specialty set.
Skip it if you want the very largest bowl, or more than four.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Simple shape
- Lead-free per the listing
- Dishwasher safe
Cons
- Only four glasses
- Smallest bowl size on this page
- Country of manufacture not stated
6. Mikasa Julie Red Wine Glasses, 25 oz, Set of 4 – Titanium-Strengthened Crystal

The Julie is Mikasa’s larger red wine glass, for people who want a big bowl in a simple, classic shape.
The listing gives a capacity of 25 ounces, or 739 ml, per glass. Mikasa describes the material as European lead-free crystal with added titanium, which it says improves durability and break resistance. The glasses are sold as dishwasher safe, though Mikasa recommends hand washing.
The listing calls it the perfect shape for casual entertaining and does not name particular grapes, so think of it as a generous everyday red wine glass rather than a specialist Bordeaux or Burgundy shape. Dimensions are not stated.
Why we like it
- 25-ounce bowl
- Lead-free crystal with added titanium, per the listing
- Plain, classic shape
- Dishwasher safe
Key specifications
| Model | Julie red wine, 5191917 |

| Count | 4 glasses |
| Dimensions | Not stated |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes; hand wash recommended (listing) |
| Made in | Not stated (listing says European crystal) |
| Lead statement | Lead-free crystal (listing) |
Why we recommend it
It suits anyone who wants a large, plain red wine glass for everyday dinners from a familiar tableware brand, with a crystal the listing calls lead-free and strengthened.
Skip it if you want six glasses or a shape designed for a particular grape.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Large bowl
- Strengthened crystal
- Lead-free per the listing
Cons
- Set of four
- Dimensions not stated
- Hand washing recommended

7. Krosno Avant-Garde Red Wine Glasses, 24.7 oz, Set of 4 – Modern Long-Stemmed Shape

The Avant-Garde is Krosno’s modern large red wine glass: a slender bowl on a long stem, with what the listing calls a fine connection between stem, bowl and foot.
The listing gives a capacity of about 24.7 ounces, or 650 ml, and says the long stem keeps your hand from warming the wine. It describes the material as lead-free crystal glass that resists damage and clouding, and the set is sold as dishwasher safe. Krosno suggests it for red wine and for sangria, which makes it a natural glass for a pitcher of sangria at a summer table.
This is the second Krosno set here. The Splendour is a very wide Burgundy balloon; the Avant-Garde is a slimmer, more upright glass for people who like a minimalist look. Height is not stated on the listing.
Why we like it
- About 24.7 ounces
- Long stem keeps hands off the bowl
- Lead-free crystal, per the listing
- Suits red wine and sangria, per Krosno
Key specifications
| Model | Avant-Garde red wine glass, 650 ml |
|---|---|
| Material | Crystal glass |
| Capacity | 650 ml (about 24.7 oz) |
| Count | 4 glasses |
| Dimensions | Not stated |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes (listing) |
| Made in | Not stated (listing says European glass manufacturer) |
| Lead statement | Lead-free crystal (listing) |
Why we recommend it
It suits someone who wants large glasses with a clean, modern outline, for red wine with dinner or sangria on the patio.
Skip it if you prefer a classic rounded goblet; the Stölzle Celebration and Mikasa Julie are more traditional.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Modern look
- Lead-free per the listing
- Dishwasher safe
Cons
- Set of four
- Dimensions and origin not stated
8. Schott Zwiesel Classico Bordeaux Glasses, Set of 6 – Classic Goblet in Tritan Crystal

The Classico Bordeaux is Schott Zwiesel’s traditional round red wine goblet, from the same German maker as our top pick, for people who want the familiar rounded shape rather than an all-purpose glass.
The listing gives a height of 9.8 inches, a diameter of 3.7 inches and a capacity of approximately 22 ounces; one listing field gives 20.29 ounces, so this is the smallest glass on this page. Schott Zwiesel says the timeless, round shape and pronounced goblet give great Bordeaux reds space to develop their aromas.
Like the Vervino, it is Tritan crystal made in Germany, which Zwiesel Glas says is manufactured entirely without lead, and it is sold as dishwasher safe. The Classico collection also includes matching white wine, champagne and other glasses if you want to build a set over time.
Why we like it
- Classic round Bordeaux goblet
- Tritan crystal the maker says is made without lead
- Dishwasher safe and made in Germany
- Set of six, with matching glasses in the range
Key specifications
| Model | Classico Bordeaux, 0003.106226 |
|---|---|
| Material | Tritan crystal glass |
| Capacity | About 22 oz (one listing field says 20.29 oz) |
| Count | 6 glasses |
| Dimensions | 9.8 in tall, 3.7 in diameter |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes (listing) |
| Made in | Germany |
| Lead statement | Made without lead (Zwiesel Glas) |
Why we recommend it
It suits a household that wants a traditional large red wine goblet in a durable, lead-free crystal, with matching glasses available in the same collection.
Skip it if size is the whole point. It is the smallest glass here, and the Krosno Splendour holds far more.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Familiar goblet shape
- Lead-free per the maker
- Dishwasher safe
Cons
- Smallest bowl on this page
- Listing gives two capacities
Why a bigger glass, and how big to go
Makers draw large bowls for two reasons. A wide bowl gives a red wine surface area and room to swirl, and the empty space above the wine gathers aroma before it reaches your nose. The makers in this guide describe it the same way: Stölzle Lausitz says its Celebration bowl “focuses aromas toward the nose,” and Krosno says its Splendour suits aromatic Burgundy.
Size still has to fit the wine. Tall Bordeaux bowls of 22 to 25 ounces, such as the Stölzle Celebration and Mikasa Lana, suit Cabernet and other bold reds; our guide to wine glasses for Cabernet goes deeper on that shape. Very wide balloons of 25 to 30 ounces, such as the Krosno Splendour and Stölzle Event, are drawn for Pinot Noir and Burgundy; see our guide to wine glasses for Pinot Noir. An oversized all-purpose glass like the Vervino is the compromise if you want one shape for everything.
A note on crystal and lead
Traditional crystal was made with lead oxide. Most makers now sell lead-free crystal, which gets its clarity and strength from other minerals, and every glass on this page is described as lead-free by its maker or listing. Zwiesel Glas says its Tritan crystal glasses are made entirely without lead; Stölzle Lausitz, Krosno and Mikasa describe these glasses as lead-free crystal on their listings. We left out the Lenox Tuscany Classics Beaujolais glass because its listing says it is crafted from full lead crystal, and large Riedel, Spiegelau and Nachtmann glasses because those makers say only that their crystal glass “does not use lead oxide as a principal ingredient,” which is not a lead-free statement. We report these statements as the makers give them and make no health claim of our own.

How to choose large wine glasses
Choose the shape before the size. Decide whether you want a tall Bordeaux bowl, a wide Burgundy balloon or an all-purpose glass, then pick the capacity within that shape.
Measure your shelves and dishwasher. Large glasses are tall and wide. The Krosno Splendour is about 10 inches tall and 4.5 inches wide. Check the gap between your cabinet shelves and the clearance of your dishwasher’s top rack.
Read the lead statement. If lead content matters to you, choose a glass the maker or its listing calls lead-free. A listing that says only “crystal” is not enough.
Match durability to your household. Thicker walls, like the Stölzle Event’s, or strengthened crystal, like the Mikasa Julie’s and the Tritan glasses, suit everyday use. Very thin glasses ask for more careful hands.
Think about set size. Some of these come in sixes and some in fours. If you host often, a set of six costs you less trouble than buying two sets of four later.
Keep the pour modest. A bigger glass is not a bigger serving. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism defines one standard drink of table wine as 5 fluid ounces at about 12% alcohol, and a stronger wine makes a standard drink a smaller pour. In a 25- or 30-ounce glass, 5 ounces looks like very little, and that is how the glass is meant to be used. It is worth measuring a 5-ounce pour once so you know what it looks like in your glasses.
How we chose these eight large wine glasses
We started from what a restaurant table asks of a wine glass: a shape suited to the wine, a size that fits a cupboard and a dishwasher, and a maker who says plainly what the glass is made of. For this page we looked only at glasses of about 22 ounces or more from identifiable glassmakers sold on Amazon in the United States, left out every glass in our main, Cabernet, Pinot Noir and budget wine glass guides, and checked that each set was in stock when we wrote this.
We set aside listings that were low on stock, including several Luigi Bormioli, Bormioli Rocco and JoyJolt large glasses, and crystal glasses without a lead-free statement. Specifications come from the Amazon listings and, for Zwiesel Glas, the maker’s own statement that its Tritan glasses are made without lead. We checked the CPSC recall database for each brand here and found no recalls. We have not drunk from these glasses ourselves; where we describe what a shape does, we say whose description it is.
Large wine glass questions, answered
What are the best large red wine glasses?
For a single all-purpose set, the Zwiesel Glas Vervino Allround. For the largest bowl, the Krosno Splendour at about 30 ounces. For a large Bordeaux shape, the Stölzle Lausitz Celebration, and for durability, the Stölzle Lausitz Event Burgundy.
How many ounces is a large wine glass?
There is no fixed definition. For this page we used about 22 ounces as the floor, and the glasses here run from about 22 ounces for the Schott Zwiesel Classico to about 30 ounces for the Krosno Splendour. Our main wine glass guide covers smaller all-purpose shapes.
Should I fill a large wine glass more?
No. The extra space is for air and aroma, not more wine. A 5-ounce pour, the NIAAA’s standard drink of table wine, is the right amount even in a 30-ounce glass.
Are large wine glasses dishwasher safe?
All eight sets here are sold as dishwasher safe, though Mikasa recommends hand washing the Julie. The practical limit is height: check that tall glasses clear your top rack before running a load.
Can I use a large red wine glass for white wine?
Yes, especially an all-purpose glass like the Vervino. White wine warms faster in a big bowl, so pour less and top up.
Our final pick for large wine glasses
Buy the Zwiesel Glas Vervino Allround set if you want one large, lead-free glass for every wine, the Krosno Splendour for the biggest bowl, or the Stölzle Lausitz Celebration for big reds. Choose the Stölzle Event if glasses break often in your house and the Mikasa Lana for a simple set of four. Whatever you pour, pour moderately, and keep water on the table too.
Big reds often benefit from air, so see our guides to wine decanters and wine openers, or step back to our main wine glass guide. And if you would rather someone else cooked tonight, see the menu or call to order.
