Ninja vs Cosori Air Fryer: Which Brand Should You Buy?

Ninja vs Cosori air fryer: what each brand does best, what America's Test Kitchen found, baskets, cleaning and recalls, with one pick from each.

Ninja and Cosori are the two names most shoppers end up choosing between when they buy a basket air fryer. Both make drawer-style machines in several sizes, both use nonstick or ceramic-coated baskets, and both have models that reach 450°F. The differences that matter are in the range each brand is best at, what independent reviewers found, and each brand’s safety record.

This guide compares the two brands the way a buyer meets them: the kinds of air fryer each makes, what America’s Test Kitchen found when it reviewed both, capacity, controls, cleaning and recalls. Then it gives one pick from each side.

Quick verdict: Ninja or Cosori?

For most people buying a single-basket air fryer, choose Cosori: America’s Test Kitchen’s 2026 review put two Cosori drawer models, the TurboBlaze and the Pro LE, in its “Highly Recommended” group, while both Ninja models it reviewed landed in “Recommended with Reservations”. Choose Ninja if you want two baskets: its DualZone machines cook a main and a side in separate drawers at different settings and finish them together, which is what Ninja does best. Whichever you buy, check the model number; Cosori recalled two million older air fryers in 2023, though its current models are not on that list.

What each brand makes best

Both brands make a broad range, but their strengths differ. Ninja’s signature is the DualZone design: the DZ302 listing describes two independent 5-quart baskets, each with its own cyclonic fan and heater, plus a Smart Finish setting that times two different foods to finish together and a Match Cook setting that copies one basket’s settings to the other.

Cosori’s strongest showing is in single-basket drawer models. America’s Test Kitchen’s 2026 air fryer review, by Chase Brightwell, Sarah Sandler and Valerie Sizhe Li, rated the Cosori TurboBlaze and the Cosori Pro LE “Highly Recommended” (America’s Test Kitchen). The same review rated the Ninja Max XL and the Ninja Crispi Pro “Recommended with Reservations”. It did not review a DualZone model, so there is no head-to-head on Ninja’s best-known design.

Cooking results in America’s Test Kitchen’s review

On the Cosori side, ATK found the TurboBlaze made “evenly golden chicken cutlets” and, given a little longer, crispy fries; its drawer was “just a little smaller than we prefer”. The Pro LE “cooked everything quickly and within the recipes’ suggested time”, but fit only three cutlets and one bag of fries at a time.

On the Ninja side, the Max XL’s “Max Crisp” function reached 450 degrees and cooked quickly, “if unevenly”. Its basket was deep enough for 2 pounds of frozen fries but too narrow for four cutlets in one layer, and its timer did not pause when the basket came out. The glass Crispi Pro preheated in 3 minutes and made crisp fries and evenly browned cutlets, but its glass drawer was heavy, its small handles got very hot, and its cooking surface fit only two cutlets.

The lesson ATK draws applies to both brands: “the width of an air fryer’s cooking surface mattered more than the height of its cooking space”, and stated capacities are “not reliable indications of how much food they can cook at once”.

Capacity: one basket or two

This is the real fork in the road. A single 5- or 6-quart basket suits one to three people and is easiest to fit under cabinets. ATK found that air-fried food cooks best in one layer and that its favorite models had cooking surfaces of more than 10 by 10 inches.

A dual-basket Ninja gives you two smaller surfaces instead of one big one. That is ideal for a protein and a side at the same time (wings in one drawer, fries in the other) but less ideal for one large item. Ninja’s DZ302 listing says IQ Boost spreads power across the baskets to cook a 6-pound whole chicken and a side, and that the machine holds up to 8 pounds of wings across both baskets.

Controls and everyday use

ATK liked simple controls on both brands’ machines and preferred models whose timers pause automatically when the drawer comes out. It singled out the Cosori Pro LE’s drawer lock button, which “releases the drawer from the machine and automatically stops cooking”. It faulted the Ninja Max XL for not pausing its timer. The DZ302 adds dual-basket settings, which take a moment to learn but save juggling two batches.

Cleaning and coatings

ATK notes that nonstick-coated baskets and crumb trays were easy to clean, even with cooked-on cheese. The Cosori Pro LE listing describes a PFAS-free ceramic coating on the basket and crisper tray and comes with 20 disposable liners. The Ninja DZ302 listing gives dishwasher-safe nonstick crisper plates. Two baskets mean two sets of parts to wash.

Recalls and safety records

In February 2023, Atekcity recalled about two million Cosori air fryers because “a wire connection in the air fryers can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards”, after 205 reports of the units catching fire, burning, melting, overheating and smoking (recall 23-130). The recall covers 3.7- and 5.8-quart models sold from June 2018 through December 2022, including model numbers beginning CP158-AF, CP137-AF, CS158-AF, CO137-AF, CO158-AF, CP258-AF and CAF-P581. The model number is on the bottom label (CPSC). If you own an older Cosori, check it; the CPSC says owners can register for a free replacement or another Cosori product at recall.cosori.com. The Pro LE we recommend (CAF-L502) is not on the list.

A search of the CPSC recall database for Ninja and SharkNinja returned no air fryer recall. It did return a May 2025 SharkNinja recall (25-247) of Foodi OP300-series multi-function pressure cookers, because the pressure-cooking lid can be opened during use (CPSC). That is a different product, but if you also own a Ninja multicooker, check its model number.

Our pick on each side of the Ninja vs Cosori air fryer choice

One Ninja and one Cosori, both in stock and sold by Amazon.com when we checked. Neither is on the CPSC recall list. The Cosori is a listing of a model that appears on one of our other guides; we explain why below.

1. Ninja Foodi 10 Qt DualZone Air Fryer – Two Baskets, One Finish Time

Ninja pickNinja Foodi Air Fryer

The DZ302 is Ninja’s 10-quart DualZone air fryer, with two independent 5-quart baskets that each have their own fan and heater, according to the listing. Smart Finish lets you cook two foods two ways and have them finish at the same time; Match Cook copies settings across both baskets for one large batch.

It has six programs (air fry, air broil, roast, keep warm, dehydrate and bake) and a temperature range of 105°F to 450°F. The listing says it can cook up to 8 pounds of chicken wings, and that IQ Boost spreads power to cook a 6-pound whole chicken and a side. The crisper plates are nonstick and dishwasher safe.

ATK did not review a DualZone model, so these details come from Ninja’s listing. The design suits families who want a full meal from one machine; it is a big unit, so measure your counter.

2. Cosori Air Fryer Pro LE 5 Qt – Easy Controls, Reviewed Well

Cosori pickCosori Air Fryer Pro LE 5 Qt

The Pro LE is Cosori’s compact single-basket air fryer. This listing, model CAF-L502, describes a 5-quart basket and crisper tray with a PFAS-free ceramic coating, temperatures up to 450°F, a shake reminder, preheat and keep-warm functions, and 20 disposable liners in the box. The listing title calls it 9-in-1 while its feature list names seven modes (air fry, roast, bake, dehydrate, broil, frozen and reheat).

America’s Test Kitchen rated the Pro LE (it tested model CAF-L501) “Highly Recommended”. Its testers found it “a breeze to use”, with a responsive touchscreen, and said it “cooked everything quickly and within the recipes’ suggested time”. They liked the lock button on the drawer handle, which releases the drawer and stops cooking. The downside was size: it fit three chicken cutlets and one bag of fries at a time.

This model also appears on our best value air fryer guide in another listing. We include it here because it is the Cosori that ATK reviewed favorably, and Cosori’s current Pro LE is not among the recalled models.

Why we like it

  • ATK: “Highly Recommended”, easy to use, cooks quickly.
  • Drawer lock that stops cooking when released (ATK).
  • PFAS-free ceramic coating, per the listing.
  • Up to 450°F.

  • Listing is inconsistent on the number of functions.

Ninja and Cosori air fryer questions, answered

Is Ninja or Cosori better?

For single-basket air fryers, Cosori has the stronger independent record: ATK rated two Cosori models “Highly Recommended” and both Ninja models it reviewed “Recommended with Reservations”. For dual-basket cooking, Ninja’s DualZone line is the better-known choice, though ATK did not review it.

Was there a Cosori air fryer recall?

Yes. In February 2023, about two million Cosori air fryers were recalled because a wire connection could overheat (CPSC recall 23-130). Check the model number on the bottom label against the CPSC list before using an older Cosori.

Has Ninja recalled an air fryer?

A search of the CPSC recall database for Ninja and SharkNinja returned no air fryer recall. It did list a 2025 recall of Foodi OP300-series multi-function pressure cookers (recall 25-247), a different product.

Is a dual-basket air fryer worth it?

If you cook a protein and a side at the same time, yes. If you mostly cook one thing, a single wide basket is simpler and easier to clean.

What size air fryer do I need?

ATK found the width of the cooking surface matters more than the stated quart capacity, and its favorites had surfaces over 10 by 10 inches. For one to three people, a 5- to 6-quart basket is usually enough.
