A fire pit lives outside all year, and most of its life is spent cold. Rain pools in the bowl and mixes with the ash, leaves and pollen pile up, and bare steel starts to rust. A cover is the cheapest way to keep the pit, and the grate you cook carne asada on, in good shape between fires.
This guide sits under our main best fire pit roundup and covers only what goes on top: fitted fabric covers for round and square wood-burning pits and for rectangular gas fire tables, from Classic Accessories, Duck Covers and Sunnydaze. None of the products here appear in that guide. The rule that matters most comes first: never cover a fire pit that is still hot.

Quick verdict: which fire pit cover to buy
For most round fire pits, the best cover is the Classic Accessories Veranda 44-inch Round Fire Pit Cover: a fabric top with a water-resistant laminated backing, air vents against condensation, an elastic hem and padded handles, with a 3-year warranty listed by retailers. If you want a cover sold as waterproof with taped seams, choose the Duck Covers Ultimate 36-inch Round. For a rectangular gas fire table, the Classic Accessories Veranda 56-inch Rectangular fits 56 by 38 by 22 inches; for a square pit, the Duck Covers Elegant 50-inch Square. On a budget, the Classic Accessories Terrazzo 44-inch adds elastic loops that hold it on in wind.
The table compares those five, one for each kind of pit. All seven covers are reviewed in full after it, followed by how to measure and when it is safe to cover.

Our picks for the best fire pit covers
These seven covers fit the shapes most backyards have: round bowls from 30 to 44 inches, square pits, and rectangular gas fire tables. Each pick lists the size it fits, how it fastens and the warranty, says who it suits, and gives one honest reason to skip it.

1. Classic Accessories Veranda 44-inch Round Fire Pit Cover – Vented, Fitted, Well Made

Classic Accessories’ Veranda line is the cover most patio stores stock, and the 44-inch round fits the common large bowl and many round gas fire tables. The listing describes the Gardelle Fabric System: a fabric top with a water-resistant laminated backing, plus a darker splash-guard skirt around the bottom where mud and rain hit hardest.
Two details matter for a fire pit in particular. Air vents reduce condensation under the cover and stop wind from lifting it like a sail, and an elastic cord in the hem pulls it snug around the base. Padded handles let you lift it off without dragging the fabric through the ash. The listing does not state a height, so measure your pit’s height as well as its width; most round pits under about 44 inches across will fit, with some slack on smaller bowls.
The Amazon listing for this size does not state the warranty. Home Depot Canada and BackyardCity list a 3-year warranty against manufacturer defects for this model (78992). Classic Accessories does not say the fabric is heat-resistant, so the pit must be cold before it goes on.
Why we like it
- Water-resistant laminated backing
- Air vents against condensation and wind lofting
- Elastic hem cord for a snug fit
- Padded handles
- 3-year warranty listed by retailers
Key specifications
| Model | Veranda 44 in round (78992) |
|---|---|
| Shape | Round |
| Fits | Round fire pits 44 in diameter; height not stated |
| Fabric | Gardelle fabric top, water-resistant laminated backing, splash-guard skirt |
| Fastening | Elastic hem cord |
| Air vents | Yes |
| Water rating | Water-resistant |
| Warranty | 3 years (retailer listings) |
Why we recommend it
It suits most round fire bowls and round gas tables, for owners who want a cover that looks tidy on the patio and lasts several seasons.
Skip it if your yard sees strong wind. This size has no straps, only an elastic hem; the 30-inch Veranda and the Terrazzo add more hold.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Vents limit trapped moisture
- Easy on and off
- Longest warranty here
Cons
- Height not stated
- No straps on this size
- Water-resistant, not waterproof
2. Duck Covers Ultimate 36-inch Round Fire Pit Cover – Taped Seams, Strapped Down

Duck Covers is a Classic Accessories brand, and its Ultimate line is the one sold as waterproof. The listing describes durable waterproof fabric with taped seams, so rain does not wick through the stitching, and double-stitched seams for durability. For a steel bowl that sits in a low, wet corner of the yard, that is the difference between a dry pit and a bowl of rusty ash soup.
The listing says it fits round fire pits up to 36 inches in diameter and 24 inches high, which suits many open bowls with legs and some round propane pits. Retailer listings disagree slightly on the maximum diameter, so measure first. Rip-n-grip straps on each corner pull the cover tight around the legs or base.
The listing states a two-year limited warranty. Like every fabric cover here, it is not described as heat-resistant; put it on only after the pit is cold.
Why we like it
- Sold as waterproof, with taped seams
- Double-stitched seams
- Rip-n-grip straps on each corner
- Tall fit, up to 24 inches
Key specifications
| Model | Ultimate round (UFPR3620) |
|---|---|
| Shape | Round |
| Fits | Round fire pits up to 36 in diameter x 24 in high |
| Fabric | Waterproof fabric, taped and double-stitched seams |
| Fastening | Rip-n-grip corner straps |
| Air vents | Not stated |
| Water rating | Waterproof (maker’s term) |
| Warranty | 2-year limited |
Why we recommend it
It suits rainy climates and any pit left in the open all year, where water getting through matters more than looks.
Skip it if your pit is wider than 36 inches. Duck Covers sells larger sizes, but they showed low stock when we checked.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Best water protection here
- Straps hold it in wind
- Fits taller bowls
Cons
- Vents not stated
- Diameter varies by listing
- Larger sizes low in stock
3. Classic Accessories Veranda 56-inch Rectangular Fire Pit Table Cover – Sized for Gas Tables

A propane fire table is a piece of patio furniture with a burner in it, and it needs a cover cut like a table cover, not a bowl cover. This Veranda fits rectangular fire pit tables of 56 by 38 by 22 inches, according to the listing, which is a common size for a long table with a burner down the middle.
It uses the same Gardelle fabric as our top pick, with a water-resistant laminated backing and splash-guard skirt, plus air vents and padded handles. For a big, flat top that catches wind, it adds click-close straps that snap at the front to secure the cover on the windiest days, on top of the elastic hem cord. The listing notes that it is not designed to cover the wheels or legs entirely.
Covering keeps rain, pollen and leaves out of the burner and the fire glass or lava rock. Turn the gas off and let the burner and media cool completely first. The listing states a two-year limited warranty. Classic Accessories also sells a 60-inch version for long, low tables.
Why we like it
- Cut for 56 x 38 x 22-inch fire tables
- Click-close straps and elastic hem
- Air vents and padded handles
- Two-year limited warranty
Key specifications
| Model | Veranda 56 in rectangular (55-599-011501-00) |
|---|---|
| Shape | Rectangular |
| Fits | Fire pit tables 56 x 38 x 22 in |
| Fabric | Gardelle fabric top, water-resistant laminated backing, splash-guard skirt |
| Fastening | Click-close straps, elastic hem cord |
| Air vents | Yes |
| Water rating | Water-resistant |
| Warranty | 2-year limited |
Why we recommend it
It suits owners of a rectangular propane fire table who want a cover that stays put on an open patio.
Skip it if your table is a different size. A loose cover on a big table flaps and wears fast, so match the dimensions.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Shaped for fire tables
- Straps for wind
- Vented
Cons
- One size only
- Does not fully cover legs
- Water-resistant, not waterproof
4. Duck Covers Elegant 50-inch Square Fire Pit Cover – Covers Big Square Pits

Square fire pits and square gas tables are hard to cover with anything sold for round bowls; the corners poke out and the fabric tears. The Duck Covers Elegant square is cut for square fire pits up to 48 by 48 inches and 24 inches high, according to the listing, so it handles the large square block-and-steel pits as well as square propane tables.
The listing describes fabric that protects from rain, wind, sun, dirt and debris, sealed seams so water does not leak through the stitching, and double-stitched seams. Rip-n-grip straps create a tight fit at the corners. One inconsistency: the listing title calls it water-resistant while the description says waterproof fabric, so treat it as water-resistant to be safe. It is not designed to cover wheels or legs entirely.
The Amazon listing for this size does not state a warranty; the matching Elegant round cover’s listing gives two years. Check with Duck Covers if warranty length matters to you.
Why we like it
- Fits square pits up to 48 x 48 x 24 inches
- Sealed, double-stitched seams
- Rip-n-grip straps at the corners
- Covers square gas tables too
Key specifications
| Model | Elegant square (LFPS5050) |
|---|---|
| Shape | Square |
| Fits | Square fire pits up to 48 x 48 x 24 in |
| Fabric | Sealed, double-stitched seams; fabric type not stated |
| Fastening | Rip-n-grip straps |
| Air vents | Not stated |
| Water rating | Water-resistant (title); waterproof (description) |
| Warranty | Not stated on this listing |
Why we recommend it
It suits large square fire pits and square fire tables, which few covers on Amazon are cut for.
Skip it if your square pit is much smaller than 48 inches. An oversized cover sags and holds rainwater on top.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Cut for square shapes
- Large size range
- Corner straps
Cons
- Warranty not on listing
- Water rating inconsistent
- Vents not stated

5. Classic Accessories Terrazzo 44-inch Round Fire Pit Cover – Leg Loops Keep It On

The Terrazzo is Classic Accessories’ simpler, lower-cost line, and it fits the same 44-inch round pits as our top pick. The listing describes Rain-Tite fabric that protects against rain, snow, sun and dirt and will not crack in cold weather, along with UV protection.
What it does better than the Veranda 44 is stay on. StayOn elastic loops slip over the fire pit’s legs, so a gust cannot carry the cover into the neighbor’s yard, and an elastic cord in the hem gives a quick, snug fit. The listing notes it is not designed to cover the wheels or legs entirely, which is normal for a pit cover; the loops grab the legs rather than hiding them.
The trade-off is coverage time: the listing states a one-year limited warranty, the shortest of the Classic Accessories covers here, and the listing does not mention vents.
Why we like it
- StayOn elastic loops fit over the legs
- Fabric won’t crack in cold weather
- Elastic hem cord
- Same 44-inch fit as the Veranda
Key specifications
| Model | Terrazzo 44 in round (58992-EC) |
|---|---|
| Shape | Round |
| Fits | Round fire pits 44 in diameter; height not stated |
| Fabric | Rain-Tite fabric, UV protection |
| Fastening | StayOn elastic leg loops, elastic hem cord |
| Air vents | Not stated |
| Water rating | Water-resistant |
| Warranty | 1-year limited |
Why we recommend it
It suits a round fire bowl on legs in a breezy yard, for an owner who wants basic protection at a lower cost.
Skip it if you want the cover to last many seasons. One year of warranty is the shortest of the Classic Accessories covers here.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Leg loops hold it in wind
- Cold-weather fabric
- Lower cost
Cons
- 1-year warranty
- No vents stated
- Height not stated
6. Sunnydaze 40-inch Heavy-Duty Round Fire Pit Cover – Vinyl With a Drawstring

Sunnydaze also makes open steel fire bowls, two of which appear in our fire pit guide, and this is its heavy-duty round cover. The listing gives 40 inches across and 18 inches high, made of reinforced vinyl (PVC) that is water- and weather-resistant, sized for wood-burning or propane pits up to 40 inches in diameter. It also works on a small round patio table out of season.
It closes with an adjustable drawstring and toggle, which cinches the cover under the rim of a bowl and keeps it in place in wind. Sunnydaze notes the cover is light enough to lift and position without strain. Its care sheet for its round covers asks you to avoid long-term water pooling on top, spot clean with warm water and a damp cloth, hand-wash only, skip bleach and the dryer, and limit direct sun, because all fabrics fade.
The same care sheet carries the line that matters most: ensure the fire pit is completely cool before using this cover. Sunnydaze’s stated warranty on its covers is 1 year.
Why we like it
- Reinforced vinyl, water- and weather-resistant
- Drawstring and toggle for a snug fit
- Fits wood or propane pits up to 40 inches
- Clear care instructions from Sunnydaze
Key specifications
| Model | Heavy-duty round 40 in (FI-4018BLK-INV) |
|---|---|
| Shape | Round |
| Fits | Round pits up to 40 in diameter; cover is 18 in high |
| Fabric | Reinforced vinyl (PVC) |
| Fastening | Adjustable drawstring and toggle |
| Air vents | Not stated |
| Water rating | Water- and weather-resistant |
| Warranty | 1 year (Sunnydaze care sheet) |
Why we recommend it
It suits open fire bowls, including Sunnydaze’s own, where a drawstring under the rim is the simplest way to keep a cover on.
Skip it if your pit is tall. At 18 inches high, it covers the bowl but not much of the stand below it.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Tough vinyl
- Secure drawstring
- Fits wood or gas pits
Cons
- Short 18-inch drop
- No vents stated
- 1-year warranty
7. Classic Accessories Veranda 30-inch Round Fire Pit Cover – A Snug Fit for Small Pits

A cover that is too big catches wind and holds puddles, so small pits deserve a small cover. This Veranda fits round fire pits 30 inches across and 12 inches high, according to the listing, the size of many compact bowls and low round gas pits.
It has everything the 44-inch Veranda has, the Gardelle fabric with a water-resistant laminated backing, the splash-guard skirt, air vents, padded handles and an elastic hem cord, plus click-close straps that snap at the front for windy days. The listing states a two-year limited warranty.
Check your pit’s height before ordering. At 12 inches, this cover is meant for low pits; a bowl on tall legs needs a deeper cover such as the Duck Covers Ultimate.
Why we like it
- Sized for 30-inch pits, 12 inches high
- Click-close straps plus elastic hem
- Air vents and padded handles
- Two-year limited warranty
Key specifications
| Model | Veranda 30 in round (55-488-011501-00) |
|---|---|
| Shape | Round |
| Fits | Round fire pits 30 in diameter x 12 in high |
| Fabric | Gardelle fabric top, water-resistant laminated backing, splash-guard skirt |
| Fastening | Click-close straps, elastic hem cord |
| Air vents | Yes |
| Water rating | Water-resistant |
| Warranty | 2-year limited |
Why we recommend it
It suits compact, low fire pits on small patios, where a snug cover looks neater and sheds water better.
Skip it if your pit stands taller than 12 inches. It will not reach far enough down.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Right size for small pits
- Straps and vents
- Two-year warranty
Cons
- Only for low pits
- Water-resistant, not waterproof
What about metal lids and snuffers?
A steel lid sits on the rim of the pit instead of draping over it, and it keeps rain and leaves out of the bowl. The best ones are made by the fire pit makers for their own pits. Breeo’s user guide for its X Series fabric cover recommends pairing it with the X Series Lid for extra protection, and Solo Stove sells lids and fitted Shelter covers for its pits, often in bundles. A lid made for your exact pit fits better than a generic one.
We looked for stand-alone metal lids on Amazon from identifiable makers and found none in stock when we checked; the ones available came from sellers we could not identify, so we left them out rather than recommend them. If you want a metal lid, buy it from the maker of your fire pit. And do not treat a lid as a way to put a fire out: follow your pit’s manual and the fire-out steps below.
How to choose a fire pit cover that fits
Four things decide whether a cover protects your pit or just blows around the yard.
1. Measure width and height
Measure the pit at its widest point, including any outer ring, and from the ground to the top of the rim. Buy a cover rated for the same size or a few inches larger. Too small and it tears at the edges; too big and it sags, collects water and catches wind. Square pits and rectangular gas tables need a cover cut for that shape.
2. Waterproof or water-resistant
Water-resistant covers shed rain but can let water through in a downpour; covers sold as waterproof, such as the Duck Covers Ultimate, add taped seams. For a pit in an open yard in a wet climate, pay for waterproof. Vents matter as much as fabric, because a sealed cover traps humidity and can make a steel bowl rust from the inside.

3. How it stays on
An elastic hem is fine on a sheltered patio. In wind, look for straps (Veranda 30-inch and 56-inch, Duck Covers), leg loops (Terrazzo) or a drawstring (Sunnydaze).
4. Wood pit or gas table
A wood-burning bowl needs a cover that drapes over the rim and down the sides. A gas fire table needs a cover cut like a table cover that keeps rain off the burner and the glass or lava rock. If your fire pit came with a cover, as the Sunnydaze Crossweave and TIKI Reunion in our fire pit guide do, start there and replace it with one of these when it wears out.
When it is safe to cover a fire pit
Fabric covers are not fireproof, and none of the makers here describe theirs as heat-resistant. Every maker manual we read says the same thing in its own words:
- Sunnydaze says in the care sheet for its round covers: ensure the fire pit is completely cool before using this cover.
- Solo Stove says in its Shelter instructions: allow your fire pit to cool completely before covering with Shelter to avoid damage.
- Breeo says in its fire pit cover user guide to wait until your Breeo fire pit is completely cool before putting the cover on.
That means after the fire is completely out, not when the flames die down. Steel and ash hold heat long after the last flame. For putting the fire out, the US Forest Service’s Smokey Bear campfire safety guidance is to make sure the fire is entirely out before you leave it, and to feel for heat with the back of your hand over the ashes; check your fire pit’s manual too, since some steel-pit makers advise letting the fire burn down rather than pouring water on hot metal. When in doubt, cover the pit the next morning.

How we picked these seven covers
We started from what a kitchen expects of any cover on an outdoor cooker: it has to fit the shape, shed water, let moisture out and stay on in wind. We limited the field to covers sold on Amazon in the United States, from identifiable makers (Classic Accessories and its Duck Covers brand, and Sunnydaze), and in stock when we checked; several Classic Accessories Ravenna and Duck Covers sizes were left out because they showed low stock or no stock. Fit sizes, fabrics and fasteners come from the Amazon listings; where a listing omitted the warranty, we took it from retailer listings or the maker’s care sheet and say so.
The safety guidance comes from the makers’ own manuals for Sunnydaze, Solo Stove and Breeo covers, and the US Forest Service. We checked each brand against the US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall list. We have not used these covers for this guide, and we did not rely on outside reviews.
Fire pit cover questions, answered
What are the best fire pit covers, according to reviews?
We do not summarize star ratings, but on specifications the Classic Accessories Veranda covers are the most complete: laminated water-resistant fabric, vents, padded handles and, on most sizes, straps. Duck Covers Ultimate is the waterproof choice, and Sunnydaze’s vinyl cover suits open fire bowls.
Which fire pit comes with a cover?
In our best fire pit guide, the Sunnydaze Crossweave 36-inch and the TIKI Reunion include a weather-resistant cover in the box. Solo Stove also sells bundles that include a lid and Shelter.
Can I cover a fire pit right after using it?
No. Sunnydaze, Solo Stove and Breeo all say to wait until the pit is completely cool. A fabric cover on a warm pit can melt or burn.
Should a gas fire pit table be covered?
Yes, when it is off and cool. A cover keeps rain, pollen and leaves out of the burner and the fire glass. Use one cut for a table, like the Veranda 56-inch rectangular.
Do fire pit covers cause rust?
They can if moisture is trapped. Choose a vented cover, do not let water pool on top, and take the cover off to dry the pit after a long wet spell. Empty rainwater from a bowl without drain holes before covering it.
Our final pick to protect your fire pit
Buy the Classic Accessories Veranda 44-inch if you have a typical round fire bowl and want a vented, well-made cover. Choose the Duck Covers Ultimate for waterproof protection, the Veranda 56-inch for a rectangular gas table, the Duck Covers Elegant 50-inch for a square pit, and the Terrazzo 44-inch on a budget. Whatever you buy, measure first and cover the pit only when it is cold.
