Propane or Natural Gas? The Best Fire Pit Table for Your Patio

Seven gas fire tables from Outdoor GreatRoom, Elementi, COSIEST and Endless Summer: BTU, tank storage, stated certification and gas safety checks.

Flames rising from a modern rectangular outdoor fire pit filled with small stones
Flames in a modern outdoor fire pit.

A fire pit table is what happens when the fire moves into the furniture. Instead of a steel bowl in the grass, you get a table at coffee-table height with a gas burner set into the middle, a ledge for plates and drinks, and a knob that turns the flame up, down and off. After a long night on the line, that knob is the part we understand best: a flame you can control, with no ash to shovel out the next morning.

This guide is the narrow follow-up to our main best fire pit roundup, which mostly covers wood-burning pits. Here we look only at gas fire tables, propane and natural gas, from makers you can identify: what the burner puts out, where the propane tank goes, what certification the listing actually states, and what to check before the first light. We left out the Endless Summer tables already reviewed on our main and smokeless pages and picked different models.

Quick verdict: which gas fire table to buy

Our top pick is the Outdoor GreatRoom Stonefire 31-inch round fire table: a 55,000 BTU burner, an access door that hides a 20-pound propane tank, a natural gas conversion kit in the box and, according to the listing, made in the USA. For a long, low table in front of a sofa, the COSIEST 56 x 28-inch fire table adds a glass wind guard. If your patio already has a natural gas line, the Elementi Granville 60 x 27-inch is built for it.

Every table here is for outdoor use only. Read the safety section before you connect any gas.

What a fire pit table is, and what it is not

A fire table is a gas appliance in the shape of patio furniture. A burner, usually a stainless steel ring or pan, sits in a recessed bowl filled with lava rock or fire glass. A valve and regulator meter gas from a 20-pound propane cylinder or, on natural gas models, from a fixed gas line. The flame is mostly for looks and gentle warmth; the tabletop around it is the useful part.

What it is not is a wood fire. You cannot burn logs, you will not get coals for roasting elotes, and the heat is modest compared with a wood pit of the same size. The upside is clean: no smoke, no sparks, no ash, and a fire that goes out when you turn the knob. If you want to cook over the flames, see our best fire pit grill guide instead. If low smoke is the goal but you still want wood, the best fire pit smokeless guide covers double-wall pits.

Three numbers matter on every listing. BTU (British thermal units per hour) tells you how much gas the burner can burn at full flame; the tables here run from 40,000 to 55,000. Table size tells you how many people can sit around it and whether there is room for plates. And tank storage tells you whether the propane cylinder hides inside the base, sits outside on a hose, or needs a separate tank cover.

Our picks for the best fire pit table

1. Outdoor GreatRoom Stonefire 31-inch Round Fire Table – Tank Hidden, Gas Choice

Best overallOutdoor GreatRoom Co Propane Fire Pit Table - Stonefire Gas Fire Pits for Outside Patio - 31" Round Composite Firepit Fire Table

The Stonefire is a round table about 32 inches across and 22.5 inches high, according to the Amazon listing, with a composite top in what the maker calls Dora Brown, a powder-coated aluminum frame and a brown mesh base. In the middle sits a 16-inch round Crystal Fire Plus burner rated at 55,000 BTU, the highest output on this page, filled with clear tempered fire glass and closed with a matching composite burner cover when the fire is off.

Two details put it first. The base has an access door that conceals a standard 20-pound propane tank, so there is no hose across the patio and no separate tank cover to buy. And the table ships set up for propane but, per the listing, includes a natural gas conversion kit, so it can follow you if you later run a gas line to the patio. Conversion is a job for a qualified gas installer, not a weekend project.

The listing says Outdoor GreatRoom tables are made in the USA and carry a one-year manufacturer’s warranty. Retailers that sell the same model list longer coverage on the burner, so ask the seller which warranty applies to your unit. The listing does not name a safety certification or the ignition type; specialist retailers describe a battery spark igniter on this model. A round table of this size seats four comfortably, with room for drinks but not a full dinner.

Why we like it

  • 55,000 BTU burner, the most on this page
  • Hides a 20 lb propane tank behind an access door
  • Natural gas conversion kit included, per the listing
  • Made in the USA, according to the listing
  • Matching burner cover turns it back into a table

Key specifications

Model SF-32-K
Fuel Propane; natural gas with included conversion kit
Burner output 55,000 BTU, 16-inch round burner
Table size 32 x 32 x 22.5 in
Tank storage Inside the base, behind an access door (20 lb tank)
Certification (as stated) Not stated on the listing
Ignition Not stated on the listing
Warranty 1-year manufacturer’s warranty

Why we recommend it

It suits a couple or small family who want a tidy round fire table with nothing showing but the flame, and who might switch to natural gas later.

Skip it if you need a long surface for serving food; a 32-inch round top holds drinks and a few small plates, not a spread.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Highest stated output here
  • Tank hidden inside the base
  • Propane or natural gas
  • Made in the USA, per the listing

Cons

  • Listing names no certification
  • Ignition type not stated on the listing
  • Small top for serving

2. COSIEST 56 x 28-inch Fire Pit Table with Wind Guard – Long Ledge, Glass Guard

Best long tableCOSIEST Outdoor Fire Pit Table 56" x 28" Rectangle Bronze Compact Concrete-Like Finish

The COSIEST is a long rectangle, 56 inches by 28 inches, built from what the listing calls fire-retardant magnesium oxide with a concrete-like stacked finish around a stainless steel burner bowl. The burner channel itself is 36 inches long and 9 inches wide, so the flame runs down the middle like a linear fireplace, and the ledge on both sides is wide enough for appetizers. The listing rates the burner at 50,000 BTU.

It comes with a glass wind guard, lava rocks and a heavy waterproof cover. Lighting is by push button, with a knob for flame height. The listing gives the weight as 86 pounds without the tank, with built-in side handles, so two people can move it when you rearrange the patio.

Read the tank details carefully. The listing’s own wording is muddled (it says the base “can not conceals” a tank), but the title and size line both say the 20-pound tank sits outside the table. Plan for a tank cover or a spot beside the table, with the hose kept clear of feet and chairs. The listing gives an overall height of 12 inches, which is very low for a table this long, so measure against your seating before ordering. COSIEST offers a one-year warranty on parts and accessories. The title says “Certified” but does not name the certifying body; ask the seller before you buy if that matters to your insurer or HOA.

Why we like it

  • Long 56-inch top with room for food
  • Glass wind guard included
  • 50,000 BTU burner with push-button lighting
  • Waterproof cover and lava rocks in the box

Key specifications

Model C5404008-G
Fuel Propane
Burner output 50,000 BTU; burner bowl 36 x 9 in
Table size 56 x 28 in; listed height 12 in; 86 lb without tank
Tank storage Outside the table (20 lb tank)
Certification (as stated) “Certified” in the title; body not named
Ignition Push button, knob flame control
Warranty 1 year, parts and accessories

Why we recommend it

It suits a patio set with a sofa and two chairs, where a long, low table makes more sense than a round one and a wind guard keeps the flame steady.

Skip it if you want the tank out of sight; it sits outside this table.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Long serving ledge
  • Wind guard and cover included
  • Side handles for moving

Cons

  • Tank sits outside
  • Certifying body not named
  • Listing text is unclear in places

3. Elementi Granville 60 x 27-inch Natural Gas Fire Table – Runs on a Gas Line

Best for natural gasGranville Fire Table Outdoor Fire Pit 60" x 27" Cast Concrete Firepit Includes Lava Rocks 45

If your house already has a natural gas line run to the patio, a propane tank is one more thing to refill and store. The Granville is the natural gas version of Elementi’s long cast-concrete table: 60 inches by 27 inches, the largest top on this page, with a 45,000 BTU stainless steel burner, according to the listing. Elementi says a propane version is sold separately.

The listing states the table is CSA and CE certified and has electric ignition and an automatic safety shut-off. It comes with decorative lava rock and a canvas cover. A stainless steel lid, a glass windscreen and a propane tank cover are sold separately; Elementi says the table works as a patio coffee table when paired with the windscreen.

A fixed gas connection is not something to do yourself. Gas appliance manuals, including Outland Living’s, say installation and service must be done by a qualified installer, service agency or the gas supplier, and your city may require a permit for a new outdoor gas line. Budget for that work. One small flag: a bullet on the listing calls this a “round fire pit table,” while the title, size and photos show a rectangle. We went by the title and size.

Why we like it

  • Built for natural gas, so there is no tank to refill
  • CSA and CE certified, per the listing
  • Electric ignition and automatic safety shut-off
  • Largest top on this page at 60 x 27 inches

Key specifications

Model OFG121-NG
Fuel Natural gas (propane version sold separately)
Burner output 45,000 BTU, stainless steel burner
Table size 60 x 27 in
Tank storage Not needed (fixed gas line)
Certification (as stated) CSA and CE
Ignition Electric ignition, auto safety shut-off
Warranty Not stated on this listing

Why we recommend it

It suits a homeowner with a natural gas line (or plans to run one) who wants a long concrete table that stays put for years.

Skip it if you rent or have no gas line; installation adds real cost, and propane tables are simpler.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • No tanks to swap
  • Certification stated
  • Electric ignition with shut-off
  • Very large top

Cons

  • Needs a professional gas hookup
  • Lid and windscreen cost extra
  • Warranty not stated on the listing

4. Elementi Manhattan 36-inch Concrete Propane Fire Table – Solid Square Concrete

Best concreteElementi Manhattan Propane Fire Pit Table Cast Concrete 36 x 36-in

The Manhattan is a 36 x 36-inch square table cast, Elementi says, from high-performance concrete, with a 45,000 BTU propane burner. It is built for propane only. In the box you get a canvas cover, 13.2 pounds of lava rock, and a small repair kit for touching up chips from shipping or moving, which tells you something about concrete: it is solid and good-looking, and it does chip.

The listing states CSA certification and says the flame height is easy to adjust. The propane tank does not go inside this table; Elementi says the tank cover is external and sold separately, so plan where the tank and hose will sit, at least the distance your manual specifies from the burner. Elementi also says it has made the table easier to move than earlier versions, but does not give a weight; expect concrete to be heavy and plan for two people.

A square shape suits a set of four chairs, one on each side. Warranty is one year, per the listing.

Why we like it

  • Cast concrete top and base
  • CSA certified, per the listing
  • Lava rock, cover and repair kit included
  • Square shape seats four evenly

Key specifications

Model OFG103-LP
Fuel Propane only
Burner output 45,000 BTU
Table size 36 x 36 in
Tank storage Outside; tank cover sold separately
Certification (as stated) CSA
Ignition Not stated on the listing
Warranty 1 year

Why we recommend it

It suits a modern patio where the fire table is the centerpiece and will stay in one place.

Skip it if you want the tank hidden; you will need Elementi’s separate tank cover or another solution.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Solid concrete build
  • Certification stated
  • Repair kit for chips

Cons

  • Tank sits outside
  • Weight not stated
  • Concrete can chip

5. Endless Summer 44 x 32-inch Wicker Fire Table – Closes Into a Full Table

Best full tabletopEndless Summer 44 x 32 Rectangular 40

This is a different, larger Endless Summer than the 30-inch tables on our main and smokeless pages. It measures 44 x 31.8 x 23 inches, according to the listing, with a brown wicker base, a black glass mantel and white fire glass around a 40,000 BTU burner. The 23-inch height puts it at coffee-table level.

What sets it apart is the center insert. When the fire is off, the insert drops over the burner and the whole top becomes a flat table, so it earns its space on the patio in daylight too. A protective cover is included. Lighting is by an integrated push-and-turn igniter, and the listing says a hidden panel keeps the controls away from curious hands, which matters if small children are around.

The listing says the table runs on a standard grill-size propane tank, not included, but does not say whether the tank fits inside the base, and it names no certification. Check the photos and questions on the listing for tank placement before you buy. Warranty is one year limited. At 40,000 BTU it puts out the least heat of the tables here; think of it as a glow for the table, not a heater.

Why we like it

  • Center insert turns it into a full table
  • Controls behind a hidden panel
  • Push-and-turn ignition
  • Cover and fire glass included

Key specifications

Model GAD17400SP
Fuel Propane
Burner output 40,000 BTU
Table size 44 x 31.8 x 23 in
Tank storage Not stated on the listing
Certification (as stated) Not stated on the listing
Ignition Integrated push-and-turn
Warranty 1 year limited

Why we recommend it

It suits a patio where the fire table also has to work as the coffee table most of the day.

Skip it if warmth is the priority; its 40,000 BTU burner is the smallest here.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Flat table when the fire is off
  • Hidden controls
  • Cover included

Cons

  • Lowest output here
  • Tank placement not stated
  • No certification named

6. Sol Living 32-inch Round Wicker Propane Fire Table – Steel Lid, Regulated Burner

Best round wicker32" Round Propane Fire Pit Table Wicker Steel Lid Patio Heater 50

Sol Living’s Midhurst-style round table wraps a steel frame in black woven wicker, with a 32-inch round top so chairs can circle it evenly. The listing rates the burner at 50,000 BTU and says it comes with a regulator for a steady flame from first light. A matching steel lid covers the burner when you are done, and volcanic stones fill the burner pan.

The box also includes the burner assembly with regulator and a full hardware kit, so expect some assembly. The listing describes the wicker as weather-resistant but gives no weight, says nothing about where the tank goes, and names no certification or ignition type. Those are the questions to ask before buying. Warranty is one year limited.

Next to the Stonefire, this is a softer, furniture-like look at the same round size. It is a newer listing than most here, so there is less buyer history to read.

Why we like it

  • 50,000 BTU burner with regulator included
  • Steel lid doubles as table space
  • Round top for even seating
  • Volcanic stones and hardware in the box

Key specifications

Model P193941
Fuel Propane
Burner output 50,000 BTU
Table size 32 x 32 in
Tank storage Not stated on the listing
Certification (as stated) Not stated on the listing
Ignition Not stated on the listing
Warranty 1 year limited

Why we recommend it

It suits a wicker patio set where a round fire table should match the chairs.

Skip it if you want certification and tank details in writing before you buy; the listing leaves them out.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Strong stated output
  • Steel lid included
  • Even round seating

Cons

  • Few specs on the listing
  • Newer listing
  • Assembly required

7. Ciays 32-inch Steel Propane Fire Table – All-Steel with a Lid

Best all-steelCiays 32 Inch Propane Fire Pit

Ciays makes a plain black steel fire table with a steel lid, lava rock and an external control for flame height. The listing rates it at 50,000 BTU and the title calls it CSA-listed. There is no wicker or concrete to weather, which some buyers will prefer on an uncovered patio, though steel needs its cover to slow rust.

We like one thing about this listing in particular: it tells buyers to use soapy water to check for leaks before use, and it includes a reminder card on the connection size and how to inspect it. That is exactly the right habit, and it matches what gas appliance manuals ask for.

The listing has a size problem. The title says 32 inches, while one bullet describes a “28-Inch Fire Table,” and Ciays sells a separate 28-inch model. Confirm the size you are ordering. Tank placement, ignition type and warranty are not stated. Ciays is a smaller brand than the others here, but it is named on the listing with a model number, and the listing gives clear safety guidance.

Why we like it

  • All-steel body with a steel lid
  • CSA-listed, per the title
  • Listing tells you to leak-check with soapy water
  • External flame control

Key specifications

Model CIFPT4B
Fuel Propane
Burner output 50,000 BTU
Table size 32 in per title (one bullet says 28 in)
Tank storage Not stated on the listing
Certification (as stated) CSA-listed
Ignition Not stated on the listing
Warranty Not stated on the listing

Why we recommend it

It suits a simple, uncovered patio where a steel table with a lid makes more sense than wicker or concrete.

Skip it if you want a known warranty; the listing does not state one.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Plain steel build
  • Certification named
  • Good leak-check guidance

Cons

  • Size stated two ways
  • No warranty stated
  • Steel needs a cover against rust

How to choose a fire pit table

Six questions decide which table fits your patio, in roughly this order.

Propane or natural gas

Propane tables run on a 20-pound cylinder, the same one most gas grills use, and can move around the patio. Natural gas tables need a fixed line and a qualified installer, but never run out mid-evening. A few tables, like the Stonefire, ship for propane with a conversion kit. Never connect a propane table to natural gas, or the reverse, without the maker’s conversion parts.

Where the tank goes

This is the question most listings answer worst. A tank inside the base looks tidy but needs a ventilated enclosure; one outside needs a cover, a safe spot for the hose and room so nobody trips. Outland Living’s manual for its 58,000 BTU Firebowl requires the cylinder to sit at least 36 inches from that appliance, which shows how much room a hose setup can take. Check what your table’s manual asks for.

BTU against your space

More BTU means a bigger flame and more warmth, but also more gas per hour. The 40,000 to 55,000 BTU range here is typical for patio tables. On a cold, windy night none of them replaces a patio heater; they take the edge off.

Size and height

Measure your seating. A coffee-height table (around 22 to 24 inches) suits sofas and lounge chairs; a low table suits deep sectionals. Round and square tables suit four chairs; long rectangles suit a sofa. Leave room between the edge of the flame and anything set on the ledge.

Certification you can read

Some listings name a testing body such as CSA, and Outland Living’s manual for its Firebowl says that model was tested by CSA International. We report only what each listing states. Where a listing names nothing, ask the seller, and look for a rating plate on the unit itself when it arrives.

Top material and weather

Concrete and magnesium oxide look solid and resist weather but are heavy and can chip. Wicker looks like furniture but needs a cover. Steel is simple but rusts without care. Whatever you choose, cover the table when it is cold, and keep rain out of the burner.

Gas fire table safety: outdoors, clearances and leak checks

A gas fire table is an appliance. Follow the manual for your exact model before anything below, and treat these points, taken from a maker’s manual, the US Fire Administration and recall records, as a checklist.

  • Outdoors only, never enclosed. Outland Living’s Firebowl owner’s manual says the appliance “shall be used only outdoors in a well-ventilated space and shall not be used in a building, garage or any other enclosed area,” and warns that it can produce carbon monoxide, which has no odor. That rules out screened porches with roofs and walls, too, unless the manual for your table says otherwise.
  • Respect the clearances. The same manual lists minimum clearances of 80 inches above and 36 inches to the sides for that 58,000 BTU model, says not to use it under overhead combustible surfaces, and says it is for non-combustible floors only. Your table’s numbers may differ; find them before you place it under a pergola or umbrella. The US Fire Administration says to keep fire pits at least 10 feet from your home or anything that can burn.
  • Leak-check every connection. Outland’s manual says to brush or spray a solution of half liquid detergent and half water on the cylinder valve, regulator and appliance connection, with no flames or smoking nearby. Bubbles mean a leak: shut the tank off and do not use the appliance until it is fixed. It says to leak-test at least once a year and every time the cylinder or a gas part is disconnected or replaced, which in practice means every tank swap.
  • If you smell gas. The manual’s steps are: shut off the gas to the appliance, put out any open flame, and if the odor continues, keep away and call your gas supplier or fire department.
  • Tank storage. The manual says not to store a spare propane cylinder under or near the appliance, to store cylinders outdoors in a well-ventilated area out of reach of children, and never in a building or garage. An enclosure for a tank must have ventilation openings at both the top and bottom; a closed, airtight box is not a tank cover.
  • Use the parts that came with it. The manual says to use the regulator supplied with the appliance. Use only the lava rock or fire glass your maker specifies, and keep hoses away from hot surfaces.

Recall history shows why hoses and fill media matter. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled Sunjoy fire tables sold at Big Lots because “an incorrectly installed burner kit hose can melt and ignite,” and Insignia and Yardbird fire tables because “the lava rocks can split and eject.” Neither recall involves the tables on this page; we searched the CPSC recall database for Outdoor GreatRoom, Elementi, Endless Summer, COSIEST, Sol Living, Ciays and Outland Living and found no recall for these brands’ fire tables as of October 2026. Before you buy any fire table, search its brand and model on cpsc.gov yourself.

How we chose these seven tables

We started from what a kitchen expects of any gas burner: a steady flame you can control, a clean shut-off, and connections you can check. Then we looked for gas fire tables sold on Amazon in the United States from makers that put their name and a model number on the listing, and that were in stock when we checked. We left out the Endless Summer 30-inch tables already in our main and smokeless guides, unbranded sellers, listings showing limited stock, and near-identical wicker tables that differed only in color. That left seven tables rather than ten, and we stopped there rather than pad the list.

Specifications come from the Amazon listings, which we flag where they contradict themselves, with retailer and maker information noted where it adds to or differs from the listing. Safety guidance comes from Outland Living’s Firebowl owner’s manual, the US Fire Administration and CPSC recall notices. We did not burn or assemble these tables for this guide.

Fire table questions, answered

What is the best quality fire pit table?

Among the tables here, the Outdoor GreatRoom Stonefire has the strongest build story on its listing: a composite top on a powder-coated aluminum frame, a 55,000 BTU burner, a hidden tank compartment and, according to the listing, made in the USA. For a heavier, more permanent table, the Elementi concrete models state CSA certification.

How many BTUs do I need in a fire table?

For most patios, 40,000 to 55,000 BTU, the range on this page, is plenty for a flame and some warmth for people sitting close. More BTU burns more gas per hour, so a bigger number also means more tank swaps.

How long does a 20-pound propane tank last on a fire table?

It depends on the burner and how high you run it, and none of the listings here gives a run time. Running any burner at full flame empties a tank faster than running it low, so a 55,000 BTU table on high will need more tank swaps than a 40,000 BTU table on low. Keep a spare tank, stored away from the table as the manuals require.

Can I use a propane fire table on a covered patio or under a pergola?

Only within the overhead and side clearances in your table’s manual. Outland’s manual for its Firebowl, for example, requires 80 inches overhead, forbids use under overhead combustible surfaces and forbids any enclosed area. If your manual does not clearly allow your setup, do not use it there.

Can I convert a propane fire table to natural gas?

Only with the maker’s conversion kit and a qualified installer. The Stonefire includes a kit, according to its listing; the Elementi Granville is sold in separate natural gas and propane versions. Do not swap regulators or orifices yourself.

Is a gas fire table safe around kids?

The glass, rocks and tabletop near the burner get hot. Outland’s manual asks users to supervise young children closely near the appliance. Tables with controls behind a panel, like the Endless Summer here, make it harder for small hands to reach the knob, but they do not replace watching.

Our last word on gas fire tables

Buy the Outdoor GreatRoom Stonefire for a round table with the tank tucked out of sight and the option of natural gas later. Choose the COSIEST for a long table in front of a sofa, the Elementi Granville if a gas line is already there, and the Elementi Manhattan for a square concrete centerpiece. The Endless Summer 44-inch closes into a full table, and the Sol Living and Ciays tables cover round wicker and plain steel. Whichever you choose, leak-check every connection and keep it outdoors.
