A gas range is the easiest stove to put a griddle on, and the easiest to get wrong. The flame wraps around whatever sits on the grates, the grates decide whether the pan sits level, and the gap between two burners decides whether the middle of a long griddle cooks or just stays warm. A griddle that suits a smooth electric top can rock on cast grates, and a thin pan that is fine over one burner can bow when two big flames hit it at once.
This guide is about that fit. It names eight stovetop griddles that span two burners, in cast iron, polished cast iron, carbon steel and coated aluminum, and explains how to match one to your burner spacing, your grates and the flame you actually cook on. Fit across the burners is given only as each maker or listing states it; measure your own range before you buy.

Quick verdict: which gas stove griddle to buy
For most gas ranges, the best gas stove griddle is the Viking 20-inch reversible cast iron grill/griddle: a flat side and a ridged side, about 21 inches long so it reaches across two standard burners, pre-seasoned, and heavy enough that it does not shift on the grates. If you want steel that heats faster and still resists warping, choose the Maverick 22-inch carbon steel griddle, which is 4 mm thick. For eggs and pancakes with no seasoning, the Nordic Ware high-sided double burner griddle is light aluminum made in the USA, and for the longest polished cast iron plate, the Viking 24-inch bronze cast iron griddle.

Our picks for the best gas stove griddle
These eight cover the real choices on a gas range: heavy cast iron that holds heat across the cool middle, carbon steel that reacts faster, and coated aluminum that is light and easy on eggs. Each pick says who it suits and gives one honest reason to skip it. Stainless steel double burner griddles are covered separately in our stainless steel griddle guide.
1. Viking 20-inch Reversible Cast Iron Grill/Griddle – Heavy, Level and Two-Sided

This is the classic double burner griddle shape done at a useful size. The listing gives the plate as 20.87 by 11.22 inches and 11.1 pounds, with a smooth side for pancakes, eggs and tortillas and a ridged side for steak and burgers. At that length it reaches across the two burners on one side of most ranges, but check yours: measure from the outer edge of the front burner to the outer edge of the rear one.
The weight is the point on gas. A heavy cast iron plate sits firmly on the grates, does not slide when you scrape it, and holds enough heat that the strip between the burners stays hot once the whole plate has come up to temperature. Preheat it slowly on medium for several minutes rather than blasting it on high; cast iron heats unevenly at first and evens out with time.
Viking lists it for gas, electric, halogen, ceramic and induction ranges, and oven and broiler safe to 400°F. It arrives pre-seasoned with a matte finish, and it is hand wash only. Viking describes the warranty as limited lifetime.
Why we like it
- Flat side and ridged side in one plate
- About 21 inches long, sized to span two burners
- 11.1 pounds, so it stays put on the grates
- Limited lifetime warranty, per Viking
Key specifications
| Model | 40351-1220-REV |
|---|---|
| Material | Pre-seasoned cast iron |
| Size | 20.87 x 11.22 x 2.17 in |
| Weight | 11.1 lb |
| Surface | Reversible: flat and ridged |
| Cooktops (per maker) | Gas, electric, halogen, ceramic, induction |
| Oven safe | 400°F |
| Care | Hand wash, dry, oil |
Why we recommend it
Choose it if you want one griddle that does breakfast on one side and grill marks on the other, and you have the strength to lift an 11-pound plate.
Skip it if you want something light to wash in the sink every morning; this is heavy, slow to heat and must be dried and oiled.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Two cooking surfaces
- Stable on cast grates
- Rated for every range type Viking lists
Cons
- Heavy to lift and store
- Oven limit is a modest 400°F
- Ridged side is harder to clean
2. Maverick 22-inch Carbon Steel Griddle – Thick Steel, Raised Edges

Carbon steel is what many restaurant flat-tops are made of, and a thick plate of it is a good match for a strong gas flame. The listing describes 4 mm carbon steel, a 22 by 9.5 inch plate with a 16 by 9 inch cooking surface that “covers two burners”, raised edges to hold grease and juices, and handles formed from the same piece of steel. One-piece construction means no rivets to loosen.
Thickness matters on gas because thin steel warps when one spot gets much hotter than the rest. At 4 mm, this plate is thick for a home griddle, which helps it stay flat over two flames. It arrives pre-seasoned, and the listing says the seasoning develops with use, the way it does on cast iron. Steel heats faster than cast iron, so it is the better pick for fajita vegetables and onions that need a quick, hard sear.
Retailers list it for gas, electric and induction cooktops and outdoor grills, and describe a lifetime limited warranty against manufacturing defects. Like any bare steel, it needs to be dried and oiled after washing. The 16-inch cooking surface is shorter than the plate’s overall length, so check it against your burner spacing.
Why we like it
- 4 mm steel resists warping better than thin plates
- Raised edges hold grease
- One-piece handles, no rivets
- Heats faster than cast iron
Key specifications
| Model | M10-1845 |
|---|---|
| Material | Pre-seasoned carbon steel, 4 mm |
| Size | 22 x 9.5 x 1.8 in; 16 x 9 in cooking surface |

Why we recommend it
Choose it if you cook hot and fast, want a flat-top feel on your range, and do not mind looking after a seasoned surface.
Skip it if your two burners sit far apart; the 16-inch cooking surface is on the short side for wide spacing.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Thick, warp-resistant steel
- Grease stays on the plate
- Faster to heat than cast iron
Cons
- Weight and oven limit not stated
- Seasoning needs upkeep
- Cooking surface shorter than the plate
3. Nordic Ware Double Burner High-Sided Griddle – Tall Sides Stop Splatter

This is Nordic Ware’s two-burner griddle with walls. The listing gives the inside of the pan as 17.9 by 10.9 inches with 1.3-inch sides, and 22.5 by 11.6 inches overall with handles. The tall sides keep bacon fat from spattering the range and give you a wall to push a spatula against when you flip eggs. This Amazon set includes two quilted hot pads.
It is nonstick formed aluminum, which heats quickly and evenly but does not like high heat. The listing’s instruction is to use moderate heat, and it warns that excessive heat can damage the pan and the stovetop. On gas, that means medium flames that stay under the pan. The listing says it fits over two burners or a camp stove and works on gas, ceramic and electric tops, but not induction.
The handles get very hot, which is why the hot pads come in the box. The listing says the pan is made in America of domestic and imported materials and components. This is a different model from the flat Nordic Ware two-burner griddle in our pancake griddle guide.
Why we like it
- 1.3-inch sides contain grease and splatter
- Light aluminum heats quickly
- Made in the USA, per the listing
- Two hot pads included
Key specifications

Skip it if you like to sear on high heat; the maker asks for moderate heat only.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Splatter-catching sides
- Light and quick to heat
- Made in the USA
Cons
- Moderate heat only
- Handles get very hot
- No induction

4. Viking 24-inch Bronze Cast Iron Double Burner Griddle – Polished Iron, Extra Length

Some ranges, especially 36-inch and pro-style models, space their burners wider than a 20-inch griddle can bridge. This Viking plate is 24 by 10.5 inches, per the listing, which gives it more reach. It is cast iron with no coating, polished eight times, Viking says, to a smooth bronze surface that becomes naturally nonstick once it is seasoned.
The care instructions are worth reading before you buy. Viking says to season it before first use, pre-heat it, use it only over low to medium heat, wipe and rinse it with warm water and dry it immediately, and never leave it in contact with water. The listing also notes that the color may change with use. On a gas range, low to medium flame on a long, heavy plate means a slow preheat, so start it well before the food is ready.
The listing says it works on all cooktops including induction, gas and electric, and is oven safe to 500°F; one retailer lists 450°F, so treat the lower figure as the safe limit. It is made without PFAS, according to the listing. The weight is not stated, but at this size in cast iron, expect it to be heavy.
Why we like it
- 24 inches long for widely spaced burners
- Polished surface with no coating
- Works on induction too, per the listing
- Clear care guidance from Viking
Key specifications
| Model | 40031-1234C |
|---|---|
| Material | Polished cast iron, uncoated |
| Size | 24 x 10.5 x 1.5 in |
| Weight | Not stated |
| Surface | Flat, single-sided |
| Cooktops (per maker) | All, including gas, electric and induction |
| Oven safe | 500°F (listing); 450°F (one retailer) |
| Care | Season first; rinse, dry at once; low to medium heat |
Why we recommend it
Choose it if your burners are too far apart for a standard 20-inch griddle and you want bare, polished iron rather than a coating.
Skip it if you want to cook on high; Viking limits it to low to medium heat.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Longest plate here
- Smooth polished surface
- No coating to wear off
Cons
- Low to medium heat only
- Weight not stated
- Oven rating differs between listings
5. Vasconia 20 x 11-inch Nonstick Double Burner Griddle – Light, Dishwasher Safe

Vasconia is a Mexican cookware brand, and this is the kind of plain, wide griddle that turns out a stack of warm tortillas or a row of quesadillas at once. The listing gives a 20 by 11 inch cooking surface in aluminum with a nonstick coating, riveted handles and dishwasher-safe care.
The listing also says it is NSF certified for home and commercial use; we found that claim on the listing only, not on a Vasconia spec page. Walmart’s listing for the same 20 by 11 inch griddle gives an oven limit of 450°F. Aluminum heats quickly and evenly, which suits tortillas, but a thin aluminum pan should stay on medium heat over gas so it does not warp and the coating lasts.
It is the lightest kind of griddle here and the easiest to wash: no seasoning, no drying ritual, into the dishwasher if you like. The trade-off is that a nonstick coating wears out in time, and it will not sear like iron or steel.
Why we like it
- 20 by 11 inches of flat cooking room
- Dishwasher safe, per the listing
- Riveted handles
- NSF certified, per the listing
Key specifications
| Model | 405918 |
|---|---|
| Material | Nonstick-coated aluminum |
| Size | 20 x 11 x 1 in |
| Weight | Not stated |
| Surface | Flat |
| Cooktops (per maker) | Double burner use; types not stated |
| Oven safe | 450°F (Walmart listing) |
| Care | Dishwasher safe |
Why we recommend it
Choose it if you want a big, light griddle for tortillas, quesadillas and pancakes that goes in the dishwasher.
Skip it if you want to sear meat hard; the coating and thin aluminum call for medium heat.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Large, light and easy to lift
- No seasoning
- Dishwasher safe
Cons
- Coating wears over time
- Not for high-heat searing
- Stove compatibility not spelled out
6. Backcountry Iron 20 x 9-inch Reversible Cast Iron Grill/Griddle – Smoother Finish, Two Sides

This is Backcountry Iron’s large reversible plate. The listing gives the outer size as 20 by 9.5 inches, with a 16.25 by 7.5 inch cooking surface on each side, one flat and one ridged. It says the plate has a smoother finish than many cast iron brands, which helps eggs and pancakes release once the seasoning builds.
It comes pre-seasoned and, per the listing, works on gas, electric and induction, in the oven, under the broiler, on a grill and over a campfire. The care is standard cast iron: no dishwasher, no soaking, scrape with a flat tool, dry at once and wipe on a thin coat of oil. The listing says it is designed in the USA; it does not say where it is cast.
Compared with the Viking, it is a little narrower, and the usable surface is smaller than the overall size suggests. On gas, that narrower width keeps more of the plate over the flame. The warranty is 90 days, according to the listing, which is short next to the big brands.
Why we like it
- Flat and ridged sides
- Smoother finish than many cast plates, per the listing
- Goes from range to grill to oven
Key specifications
| Model | Not stated (listing part numbers conflict) |
|---|---|
| Material | Pre-seasoned cast iron |
| Size | 20 x 9.5 x 0.5 in; 16.25 x 7.5 in cooking surface |
| Weight | Not stated |
| Surface | Reversible: flat and ridged |
| Cooktops (per maker) | Gas, electric, induction |
| Oven safe | Yes; temperature not stated |
| Care | Hand wash, dry, oil |
Why we recommend it
Choose it if you want a reversible cast iron plate with a smoother face and a slimmer footprint on the grates.
Skip it if a long warranty matters to you; the listing gives 90 days.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Two surfaces
- Smooth face for eggs
- Indoor and outdoor use
Cons
- Smaller cooking area than its size suggests
- 90-day warranty
- Country of casting not stated

7. Cuisinart Chef’s Classic 13 x 20-inch Double Burner Griddle – The Widest Coated Surface

At 13 by 20 inches, this is the widest griddle here, which matters more than length when you cook for a crowd: a 13-inch depth fits two rows of pancakes or a full line of tortillas front to back. Cuisinart builds it from hard-anodized aluminum, which it says heats quickly and spreads heat evenly, with a PurelyCeramic nonstick interior that it describes as PFAS-free.
Cuisinart lists a lifetime warranty and recommends hand washing. Neither the listing nor the Cuisinart product details we found state an oven limit or induction compatibility, so we do not claim either. Hard-anodized aluminum is much stiffer than plain thin aluminum, but a ceramic coating still lasts longest on medium heat.
On a gas range, check depth as well as length: a 13-inch-deep pan can reach the back-burner grate edges or a raised backguard on some ranges. Measure front to back between your burners and anything behind them.
Why we like it
- 13 by 20 inches, the most area here
- Hard-anodized aluminum body
- PFAS-free ceramic nonstick, per Cuisinart
- Lifetime warranty
Key specifications
| Model | 655C-35 |
|---|---|
| Material | Hard-anodized aluminum, ceramic nonstick |
| Size | 13 x 20 in |
| Weight | Not stated |
| Surface | Flat |
| Cooktops (per maker) | Not stated |
| Oven safe | Not stated |
| Care | Hand wash recommended |
Why we recommend it
Choose it if you cook breakfast for a big family and want the most coated surface you can fit on two burners.
Skip it if your range has a tall backguard or tight spacing; the 13-inch depth needs room.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Widest surface here
- Stiff hard-anodized body
- Lifetime warranty
Cons
- Oven and induction ratings not stated
- Needs a deep cooktop area
8. GreenPan x Bobby Flay 18 x 11-inch Double Burner Griddle – Ceramic Coat, Steel Handles

GreenPan’s griddle from its Bobby Flay line is an 18 by 11 inch pan, per the listing, with GreenPan’s diamond-infused ceramic nonstick, which it describes as free of PFAS. It has mirror-polished stainless steel side handles and a quick-heating body that the listing says makes heat easier to control.
The stovetop line is clear: GreenPan says it is safe for all stovetops except induction, naming gas, electric, halogen and ceramic. It is dishwasher safe and oven safe, per the listing, which does not give an oven temperature; a third-party copy of the instruction manual gives 400°F, but we could not tie it to this exact model number, so check the box.
At 18 inches it is one of the shorter pans here, so it suits ranges with burners close together, and it keeps more of the pan over the flame. Ceramic coatings release well but can lose their slickness under high heat, so keep the flame moderate.
Why we like it
- PFAS-free ceramic nonstick, per GreenPan
- Stainless steel handles
- Dishwasher safe
- Compact length for close burners
Key specifications
| Model | CC009898-001 |
|---|---|
| Material | Ceramic nonstick, body metal not stated |
| Size | 18 x 11 x 1.5 in |
| Weight | Not stated |
| Surface | Flat |
| Cooktops (per maker) | Gas, electric, halogen, ceramic; not induction |
| Oven safe | Yes; temperature not stated on listing |
| Care | Dishwasher safe |
Why we recommend it
Choose it if you want a ceramic-coated griddle that fits a range with closely spaced burners and goes in the dishwasher.
Skip it if you have induction or need a long plate for wide burners.
Pros and cons
Pros
- PFAS-free coating
- Stainless handles
- Dishwasher safe
Cons
- No induction
- Oven limit not on the listing
- Short for wide burner spacing
How to fit a griddle to your gas range

Measure the burner spacing first
A double burner griddle only works if both flames sit under the cooking surface, not under the handles. Measure from the outside edge of one burner to the outside edge of the other on the side you will use, then compare it with the cooking surface, not the overall length. The Maverick, for example, is 22 inches overall but has a 16-inch cooking surface. On a range with a center oval burner, check whether the maker designed that burner for a griddle; some ranges include a matching griddle or offer one as an accessory.
Check how it sits on the grates
Continuous grates that run flat from front to back give a long griddle a level base. Separate grates with a gap or a height difference between them can make it rock. Set the griddle on cold grates and press each corner: if it rocks, it will heat unevenly and slide when you scrape it. GE’s guidance for its gas ranges says flat-bottom griddles may be used because there is room underneath for air to circulate, and it notes that some of its pro ranges have reversible grates, so check your own manual for any griddle rules.
Keep the flame under the pan
The quick-start guide for an Electrolux gas cooktop puts it plainly: if the flame extends beyond the outer edge of your cookware, reduce the flame setting. That matters more with a griddle, because flame curling past the edge heats the handles and the grates, not the food. The same Electrolux guide says to center its griddle over the two left burners and preheat it for five minutes on medium to medium-low. That slow start is a good habit for any griddle.
Think about warping
Warping happens when one part of a pan gets much hotter than the rest. Over two gas burners, the area right above the flames heats fast while the middle and ends lag, so a thin pan on high is the classic way to bow a griddle. Thick cast iron and 4 mm carbon steel resist it; coated aluminum lasts longest on medium. Nordic Ware and Viking both limit their griddles here to moderate or low to medium heat, which is a good guide for the rest.
Expect a cooler middle
Two round flames do not heat a rectangle evenly. The strip between the burners is usually a little cooler, and the ends past the burners cooler still. Use that: sear over the burners, hold cooked food or warm tortillas in the middle, and keep the ends for food that only needs to stay hot. Heavy cast iron evens this out better than thin aluminum once fully preheated.
Material, by the job
Cast iron and carbon steel are best for steak, fajita vegetables and smash burgers, and they last for decades with care. Coated aluminum is best for eggs, pancakes and quesadillas and is easier to wash, but the coating wears. If you want only cast iron, our cast iron griddle guide covers more shapes, including round and single-burner griddles.
How we picked these eight griddles
We looked for double burner griddles from identifiable makers that were in stock on Amazon when we checked, and that cover each material a gas range cook might want. Specifications come from the makers’ product pages where we could read them (Viking, Cuisinart, Nordic Ware), from the Amazon listings and, where noted, from retailer listings. Range guidance comes from GE’s gas range support page and an Electrolux gas cooktop quick-start guide.
We have not cooked on these griddles ourselves. We left out griddles already featured on our related guides, and in-stock double burner griddles from sellers with no maker information. We could not find an in-stock stainless steel or enameled double burner griddle we had not already covered, so this list has none; see the stainless guide linked above.

Gas stove griddle questions, answered
What is the best griddle for a gas stove?
For most ranges, a heavy reversible cast iron plate like the Viking 20-inch, because it sits steadily on grates and evens out the heat between burners. If you mostly cook eggs and pancakes, a nonstick aluminum griddle like the Nordic Ware is lighter and easier to clean.
What is the best stove top griddle for gas stoves with wide burners?
Choose a longer plate. The Viking 24-inch bronze cast iron griddle is the longest here. Always compare your burner spacing with the cooking surface, not the overall length with handles.
Should I buy a gas stove with a built-in griddle instead?
A gas range with a built-in griddle or a center griddle burner gives you a fixed, level spot designed for it, but it costs range space you may want for pots. A loose griddle works on almost any range and goes in the cupboard when you do not need it. If you are shopping for a range anyway, check whether it includes a griddle or offers one as an accessory.
Can a griddle damage my gas stove?
Very high heat under a large pan can trap heat and discolor grates and the cooktop. Keep the flame under the pan, preheat on medium and follow your range maker’s manual, which may list griddle rules for your model.
Cast iron or nonstick for a gas range?
Cast iron or carbon steel if you sear, grill or cook on high. Nonstick aluminum if you mostly cook eggs, pancakes and quesadillas on medium and want quick cleanup.
Our final pick for a gas range
Buy the Viking 20-inch reversible cast iron griddle if you want one heavy plate that sits flat on the grates and does both breakfast and grill marks. Choose the Maverick for thick carbon steel, the Nordic Ware for splatter-free nonstick, or the Viking 24-inch if your burners sit far apart.
