A Buyer’s Guide to the Best Mini Waffle Maker for Chaffles

The mini irons worth buying for chaffles: 4-inch single, double and four-at-once, two 5-inch options, and how to keep cheese from sticking.

Three small round waffles with a crisp grid pattern on a white counter
Small round waffles, about the size a mini iron makes.

A chaffle is a waffle made mostly from cheese and egg, cooked in a small waffle iron until the cheese turns crisp at the edges. The batter is thin, salty and sticky in a way that ordinary waffle batter is not, so the iron matters more than it does for a Sunday stack of buttermilk waffles. Melted cheese runs into every gap, sticks to tired coatings and burns on hot spots.

Most chaffle recipes are written for a 4-inch mini iron: one egg and a handful of shredded cheese fill it, and you get a round that works as a sandwich bread, a snack or a base for toppings. This guide centers on those 4-inch irons, the single, double, four-at-once and removable-plate versions, and adds two 5-inch irons for cooks who want a bigger round, with a plain note on what that changes. Full-size machines stay in our main waffle maker guide.

Quick verdict: which mini iron to buy for chaffles

For most cooks, the best mini waffle maker for chaffles is the Dash Mini Waffle Maker with the ceramic surface: it makes the standard 4-inch round most recipes assume, the ceramic coating releases cheese easily, and Dash backs it for a year, or two with registration. If you cook for two or more, the Proctor Silex Double Mini Waffle Maker makes two rounds at once and carries a three-year warranty. For a whole family or meal prep, the Dash Multi Mini cooks four at a time.

The rest of this page explains why, what each iron gives up, and how to keep melted cheese from welding itself to the plates.

Our picks for the best mini waffle maker for chaffles

Picks 1 to 6 make 4-inch waffles, the size chaffle recipes are written around; picks 7 and 8 are 5-inch irons, and their reviews say what that means for your batter. They differ in how many rounds they cook at once, what the plates are coated with and whether the plates come out for washing. That last point matters more for cheese than for batter, so each pick says plainly how it cleans.

When we checked, the in-stock 4-inch field on Amazon was mostly Dash plus a crowd of small sellers with little maker information behind them. Rather than fill the list from those sellers, we stopped at six 4-inch irons and added two 5-inch irons from makers you can identify. Neither 5-inch maker mentions chaffles, so treat those two as a choice you make for size, not as chaffle irons by design. All eight were in stock on Amazon when we checked, and none appears on the US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall list.

1. Dash Mini Waffle Maker, Ceramic – The Standard Chaffle Round

Best overallDash Mini Waffle Maker

The Dash Mini is the iron most chaffle recipes were written on, and this is its newer version with a ceramic cooking surface. It makes one 4-inch round at a time, has no dial and no timer, and starts heating the moment you plug it in. An indicator light tells you when it is ready.

Our main waffle maker guide already covers the original Dash Mini with the standard nonstick coating. This is a different model, the DMW00111, with what Dash calls its CleanCoating ceramic surface. For chaffles that is the reason to choose it: cheese is the stickiest thing you will ever put in a mini iron, and a slick surface that wipes clean with a damp cloth saves you picking burnt cheddar out of the grid.

Dash’s listing names chaffles, hash browns, paninis, cornbread and cookies as uses, and includes a recipe guide. The iron is small enough to live in a drawer. Dash does not state the wattage of the ceramic model; the original Dash Mini is rated at 350 watts on Dash’s own product page.

Care is simple: let it cool, then wipe the plates with a damp cloth. The plates are fixed, so nothing goes in the dishwasher.

Why we like it

  • Makes the 4-inch round most chaffle recipes assume
  • Ceramic nonstick surface, per Dash
  • Indicator light, no settings to get wrong
  • 1-year warranty, 2 years with Dash’s Feel Good Rewards registration

Key specifications

Model DMW00111
Waffle size 4-inch round
Waffles per batch One
Power Not stated (original Dash Mini: 350 W)
Cooking surface Ceramic nonstick
Plates Fixed
Cleaning Wipe with a damp cloth
Warranty 1 year; 2 years with registration

Why we recommend it

If you make one or two chaffles at a time, this is the iron recipes are measured for, so one egg and the usual handful of cheese fill it without spilling over. The ceramic surface is the upgrade that matters for cheese, and the warranty is clear.

Skip it if you cook for a family every morning. One round at a time, a few minutes each, adds up fast.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Standard 4-inch chaffle size
  • Ceramic surface releases cheese easily
  • Small enough for a drawer

Cons

  • One waffle at a time
  • No on/off switch or heat control
  • Wattage not stated for this model

2. Proctor Silex Double Mini Waffle Maker – Two Rounds, Three-Year Warranty

Best for twoProctor Silex Double Mini Waffle Maker With 4” Round Non-Stick Grids

This is two 4-inch round grids side by side under one lid, from Proctor Silex, the Hamilton Beach Brands label. It makes one or two waffles at a time, and Proctor Silex gives the cook time as about two and a half minutes. A green light comes on when the grids are hot enough for batter.

For chaffles, two rounds at once is the useful middle ground. A chaffle sandwich needs two pieces, and this iron makes both at the same time, so the first one is not going cold while the second cooks. Proctor Silex’s listing names chaffles and hash browns among its uses.

The Amazon listing describes the grids as PFAS-free nonstick. Proctor Silex gives the size as 3.4 inches high, 9.7 inches wide and 6.8 inches deep, so it takes about twice the counter space of a single Dash. A retailer listing rates it at 700 watts; Proctor Silex’s own page does not state the wattage.

The standout is the warranty. Proctor Silex backs it for three years, which is longer than any other iron here. One honest note: the maker’s own site lists the 26102 as no longer available, although Amazon showed it in stock when we checked.

Why we like it

  • Makes one or two 4-inch rounds in about 2.5 minutes, per Proctor Silex
  • Three-year limited warranty
  • Green ready light
  • PFAS-free nonstick grids, per the listing

Key specifications

Model 26102
Waffle size 4-inch round
Waffles per batch One or two
Power 700 W (retailer listing)
Cooking surface PFAS-free nonstick (listing)
Plates Fixed
Cleaning Wipe cooled grids with a damp cloth
Warranty 3 years, limited

Why we recommend it

It suits couples, or anyone who makes chaffle sandwiches, because both halves come out together. The three-year warranty is the best backing in this group.

Skip it if counter or drawer space is tight. At nearly 10 inches wide it is a different size of appliance from a single mini iron.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Two chaffles at once
  • Three-year warranty
  • Stated cook time of about 2.5 minutes

Cons

  • Twice the footprint of a single iron
  • Maker’s site lists it as discontinued
  • Wattage only from a retailer listing

3. Dash Multi Mini Waffle Maker – Four Chaffles at Once

Best for batchesDash Multi Mini Waffle Maker

The Multi Mini puts four 4-inch molds on one plate, so it turns out four standard Dash-size rounds in the time a single iron makes one. Dash describes it as having the same plug-in-and-pour operation as its Mini, with an indicator light and no dials.

For chaffles the useful extra is the overflow channels. Dash’s listing says side channels catch extra batter, which matters with cheese: an over-full mold on a single iron runs down the sides and burns on the hinge, while here the excess has somewhere to go. Dash also suggests making batches to freeze, which suits anyone who preps chaffles for the week.

Dash’s own product page describes the surface as PTFE nonstick. The plates are fixed, so cleaning means a wipe with a damp cloth once it has cooled, and with four molds and the channels between them there is more surface to wipe than on a single iron.

It is bigger, too. Dash does not give the dimensions on the listing, so check that it fits where you plan to store it.

Why we like it

  • Four 4-inch waffles at once, per Dash
  • Overflow channels catch extra batter
  • Same simple indicator-light operation as the Dash Mini
  • 1-year warranty, 2 years with registration

Key specifications

Model DMMW400GBGT04
Waffle size 4-inch round
Waffles per batch Four
Power Not stated
Cooking surface PTFE nonstick
Plates Fixed
Cleaning Wipe with a damp cloth once cool
Warranty 1 year; 2 years with registration

Why we recommend it

It is the iron for families and for meal prep. Four rounds at a time means breakfast for four in one batch, and the channels make overfilling less of a mess.

Skip it if you want a PTFE-free coating or a drawer-sized appliance; the ceramic single irons on this list suit you better.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Four chaffles per batch
  • Overflow channels
  • No settings to learn

Cons

  • PTFE coating, not ceramic
  • More surface to wipe clean
  • Dimensions and wattage not stated

4. bella Stack & Store Mini Waffle Maker – Ceramic Iron That Stacks

Best for small kitchensbella Stack & Store Mini Waffle Maker

bella’s mini iron makes the same 4-inch round as the Dash, with two differences that matter in a small kitchen. Two or more of them snap together in a stack for storage, and the cord tucks away, so a pair of irons takes the cupboard space of one tall box.

That makes it a sensible way to cook two chaffles at once without buying a double iron: buy two, run them side by side, and stack them when you are done. bella gives the size as 2.95 inches high, 4.8 inches wide and 6.49 inches deep.

The cooking surface is bella’s EverGood ceramic nonstick, which the maker says is made without PFAS, PFOA, PTFE, lead and cadmium. The Amazon listing rates it at 350 watts; bella’s own product page gives 400 watts for the Stack & Store line, so treat the exact figure as unconfirmed. The handles are cool-touch, per the listing.

Like the others, the plates are fixed. Let it cool and wipe it clean.

Why we like it

  • Ceramic nonstick made without PFAS or PTFE, per bella
  • Stacks and snaps together with other units for storage
  • Cord storage and cool-touch handles
  • Compact: 2.95 x 4.8 x 6.49 inches, per bella

Key specifications

Model 35116-043A
Waffle size 4-inch
Waffles per batch One
Power 350 W (listing); bella’s site: 400 W
Cooking surface EverGood ceramic nonstick
Plates Fixed
Cleaning Wipe clean when cool
Warranty Not stated

Why we recommend it

It suits a small kitchen, and anyone who would rather own two single irons than one double. The ceramic coating and stacking design are its real advantages.

Skip it if a clear warranty matters to you; the listing does not state one, while Dash and Proctor Silex spell theirs out.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Ceramic coating
  • Stacks neatly with a second unit
  • Cool-touch handles

Cons

  • Wattage figures disagree
  • Warranty not stated on the listing
  • One waffle at a time

5. Dash MultiMaker Mini Waffle Maker – Plates That Come Out

Easiest to cleanDash MultiMaker Mini Waffle Maker

The MultiMaker is a Dash mini iron with plates that unclip. It comes with five: classic waffle, heart waffle and mini griddle plates, swapped using release tabs, according to the listing.

For chaffles, removable plates solve the biggest annoyance of a mini iron. Cheese that leaks past the grid and onto the hinge of a fixed-plate iron has to be picked off in place; here you take the plates out once they have cooled and wash them properly. Dash says the plates are dishwasher safe, but recommends hand washing to keep the nonstick coating at its best, which is sensible advice for any coated surface.

The griddle plates are a bonus. A flat 4-inch plate cooks a fried egg or a small pancake for a chaffle sandwich, so one appliance covers both halves of the meal. Dash puts the cook time at about three to four minutes per waffle, and the indicator light shuts off when it is time to pour.

It has a built-in cord wrap and non-slip feet. The listing does not state the wattage or the warranty for this model.

Why we like it

  • Five removable plates: waffle, heart waffle and griddle
  • Plates are dishwasher safe, per Dash
  • About 3 to 4 minutes per waffle, per the listing
  • Cord wrap and non-slip feet

Key specifications

Model DIW025RMRD04
Waffle size 4-inch (mini)
Waffles per batch One
Power Not stated
Cooking surface Nonstick
Plates Five, removable
Cleaning Plates dishwasher safe; hand washing advised
Warranty Not stated

Why we recommend it

It is the iron for cooks who dread cleanup. Being able to lift the plates out and wash them takes the worst part out of making cheese-heavy batter.

Skip it if you only want waffles. You are paying for plates you may never use, and the coating type is not specified beyond nonstick.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Plates come out for washing
  • Griddle plates for eggs and pancakes
  • Heart plates for a change of shape

Cons

  • More parts to store
  • Wattage and warranty not stated
  • Slower stated cook time than the Proctor Silex

6. Holstein Housewares Personal Mini Waffle Maker – A Plain Backup Iron

Simple alternativeHolstein Housewares Personal/Mini Waffle Maker

Holstein Housewares makes a 4-inch personal waffle maker in the same mold as the Dash Mini: one round at a time, nonstick plates, a compact and lightweight body. It is the alternative if the Dash is out of stock, or if you want a second iron for running two chaffles side by side.

The listing is short on detail. It confirms the 4-inch cooking surface, non-stick coated plates, quick heat-up and a one-year manufacturer warranty, and describes it as suited to dorms and small kitchens. It does not state the wattage, the coating type or the dimensions, and we could not find a maker product page with more.

For chaffles that means you are buying the basics and nothing more. Nonstick plates and a 4-inch round are all a chaffle strictly needs, so it will do the job; you just know less about it than about the Dash or bella irons.

As with every fixed-plate iron, let it cool and wipe the plates rather than soaking the unit.

Why we like it

  • 4-inch single-serve cooking surface
  • Non-stick coated plates
  • Compact and lightweight, per the listing
  • One-year manufacturer warranty

Key specifications

Model HH-09125016I
Waffle size 4-inch
Waffles per batch One
Power Not stated
Cooking surface Nonstick (type not stated)
Plates Fixed
Cleaning Wipe clean when cool
Warranty 1 year

Why we recommend it

It suits anyone who wants a second mini iron, or a straightforward one, from a maker you can identify, with a stated warranty.

Skip it if you want to know exactly what the coating is. The listing only says nonstick, so the ceramic Dash or bella is the better choice if that matters to you.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Standard 4-inch size
  • Compact and light
  • One-year warranty

Cons

  • Coating type not stated
  • Thin product information
  • No indicator details on the listing

7. Nostalgia MyMini Personal Waffle Maker – A 5-Inch Round for Bigger Chaffles

Best larger roundNostalgia MyMini Personal Electric Waffle Maker

The MyMini is Nostalgia’s single-serve waffle maker, and the first iron here that is not 4-inch: the listing and the manual both give 5-inch cooking surfaces. That is the reason to choose it. A wider round makes a fuller sandwich base than the standard mini.

Be clear about what you are buying, though. Nostalgia does not mention chaffles anywhere in the listing or in the MWF5AQ manual. The listing names waffles, hash browns, grilled cheese, quesadillas, brownies and cookies, and the manual’s recipes we read are for batter waffles. Cheese-and-egg batter is our suggestion here, not the maker’s.

The other catch is that chaffle recipes are measured for 4 inches, so one egg and a handful of cheese may not reach the edges. Expect to scale the recipe up a little and to find the right amount by trial. Nostalgia’s manual warns against letting batter overflow, which matters more with cheese.

At 550 watts, per the manual, it draws more than the 350 watts Dash gives for its original mini. The listing says it preheats in 1 to 3 minutes, and an indicator light shuts off when it is ready. The manual advises a little cooking spray or oil before each use, nylon, silicone or wooden tools only, and a damp, soapy cloth once it is cool. No part goes in the dishwasher.

Why we like it

  • 5-inch cooking surfaces, per Nostalgia
  • 550 watts, per the manual
  • Ready light and cool-touch handle
  • 1-year warranty, per Nostalgia

Key specifications

Model MWF5AQ
Waffle size 5-inch cooking surface
Waffles per batch One
Power 550 W (manual)
Cooking surface Nonstick (type not stated)
Plates Fixed
Cleaning Damp, soapy cloth when cool; no dishwasher
Warranty 1 year, limited

Why we recommend it

It suits a cook who wants a larger chaffle for a sandwich, from an established small-appliance maker with a written warranty, and who does not mind adjusting recipes.

Skip it if you follow chaffle recipes to the letter. Nostalgia says nothing about chaffles, and a 4-inch iron will match the recipe without any guesswork.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Bigger round than a 4-inch mini
  • Higher stated wattage than the original Dash Mini
  • Clear care and warranty terms

Cons

  • Chaffles not mentioned by the maker
  • Recipes need scaling up
  • Coating type not stated

8. Elite Gourmet 5-Inch Mini Belgian Waffle Maker – Thick Rounds, Stored Upright

Best for thick roundsElite Gourmet 5" Mini Belgian Waffle Maker

Elite Gourmet, a Maxi-Matic USA brand, makes this mini Belgian iron with dual 5-inch plates. The listing says it makes waffles 1 inch thick, which sets it apart from the flat 4-inch rounds on this page. It also stands upright for storage, per the listing.

Like the Nostalgia, this is not sold as a chaffle iron. Neither the listing nor the EWM013 manual mentions chaffles; the listing talks about dessert or savory waffles, sandwiches, snack pockets and eggs. A deep Belgian grid takes more batter than a flat mini grid, and the manual’s general guide for a full waffle is about ¾ to 1 cup. So a one-egg chaffle recipe will not fill it, and a thick cheese-and-egg round needs longer to set through. See the egg note in the buying section below, and do not open it early.

The listing’s timing is not consistent: one line says 5 minutes and another says 3. The manual says most recipes bake in about 5 to 6 minutes, so start from that. The listing also says no oil or butter is needed, while the manual says to coat the grids lightly first. With sticky cheese, we would follow the manual.

Cleaning is by paper towel or a damp cloth once it is cool, and the manual says never to put it in water or the dishwasher. Elite gives a one-year limited warranty in the manual, with a dated proof of purchase. Elite does not state the wattage in the listing or the manual; a reseller listing gives 550 watts.

Why we like it

  • Dual 5-inch plates, per the listing
  • Waffles about 1 inch thick, per the listing
  • Stands upright for storage
  • 1-year limited warranty, per the manual

Key specifications

Model EWM013M#
Waffle size 5-inch, Belgian style, 1 inch thick
Waffles per batch One
Power Not stated (550 W on a reseller listing)
Cooking surface Nonstick (type not stated)
Plates Fixed
Cleaning Paper towel or damp cloth when cool; no dishwasher
Warranty 1 year, limited

Why we recommend it

It suits someone who wants a thick, Belgian-style savory waffle more than a thin, crisp chaffle, and who wants one small iron that stores on its end.

Skip it if you want the crisp edges and quick cook that make a chaffle a chaffle. A thin 4-inch iron does that better, and this one is built for depth.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Thick, Belgian-style round
  • Upright storage
  • Written one-year warranty

Cons

  • Chaffles not mentioned by the maker
  • Needs far more batter than a 4-inch recipe
  • Listing and manual disagree on time and greasing
  • Wattage not stated by Elite

How to choose a mini iron for cheese batter

Chaffle batter behaves differently from flour batter. It is mostly melted cheese held together by egg, so it sticks harder, leaks more and browns faster. These are the points that matter.

Stick to the 4-inch size

Chaffle recipes are written for a 4-inch round, typically built around one egg and a handful of shredded cheese. A 5-inch or Belgian iron, like picks 7 and 8, needs more batter, can cook thicker and changes the timing. If you follow recipes, buy the size they assume; choose 5-inch only if you want the bigger round and are happy to adjust.

Choose the coating with cheese in mind

Melted cheese is hard on any coating. Ceramic surfaces (the Dash ceramic and bella) and conventional PTFE nonstick (the Dash Multi Mini) both release well when new; what ruins either is metal utensils and scrubbing. Use a silicone or wooden tool to lift chaffles out. If you prefer to avoid PTFE, choose one of the ceramic irons and read the maker’s description of what the coating is made without.

Decide how many you make at once

One round at a time suits a single cook. For two people, either a double iron or two singles side by side keeps both chaffles hot. For four or more, a four-mold iron saves a lot of standing at the counter.

Think about cleanup before you buy

Fixed plates mean wiping in place, and cheese that leaks onto the hinge is fiddly to remove. Removable plates, like the Dash MultiMaker’s, can be lifted out and washed. Overflow channels, like the Multi Mini’s, keep spills off the counter.

Small waffles topped with ham, sliced cheese and halved boiled eggs on a wooden board
Small waffles topped with ham, cheese and egg.

Check the warranty

Mini irons are inexpensive, and some makers do not state a warranty at all. Proctor Silex gives three years on its double; Dash gives one year, or two if you register. A stated warranty is a fair tiebreaker between two similar irons.

Cook the egg through

Chaffles are an egg dish, so cook them until they are set and firm, not soft in the middle. FoodSafety.gov lists egg dishes at a safe minimum internal temperature of 160°F; if you are unsure, give the chaffle another minute.

How we chose these eight mini irons

We started with the 4-inch irons for sale on Amazon US and kept only those that were in stock, came from a maker we could identify, and had a listing whose photos and description agreed. That gave us six, so we added two 5-inch irons held to the same test, and we say plainly that neither maker mentions chaffles. We left out every iron already reviewed on our main waffle maker page, including the original Dash Mini; the Dash here is the newer ceramic model. We also left out the many similar irons from sellers that publish little about who makes them.

For each iron we read the maker’s product page where one exists (Dash, Proctor Silex, bella), the maker’s manual for the Nostalgia and Elite Gourmet irons, and the Amazon listing, and recorded only the specifications they state. Where sources disagreed, as on the bella’s wattage, we say so. We also searched the US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall database for every brand here and found no recall covering these models. We did not use these irons ourselves, and nothing here claims we did.

Chaffle iron questions, answered

What size waffle maker do you need for chaffles?

A 4-inch mini iron. That is the size most chaffle recipes are written for, and one egg with a handful of shredded cheese fills one or two rounds. A 5-inch iron can work too, but you will need to scale the recipe up.

How do you stop chaffles sticking?

Let the iron heat fully until the ready light says so, use a little less batter than you think so it does not overflow, and let the chaffle cook until it releases on its own rather than prying it out early. Lift it with a silicone or wooden tool, never metal, so the coating stays intact for the next batch.

Can you make chaffles in a full-size waffle maker?

Yes, but you need to scale up the batter and the result is thicker and softer. Our main waffle maker guide covers full-size and Belgian machines if you want one iron for both.

Are chaffles healthy?

That depends on your own diet and needs, and we do not make health claims about any food. If you are cooking chaffles for a medical or weight-loss diet, ask your doctor or a registered dietitian what fits.

Can a mini waffle maker cook other things?

Yes. Dash’s listings name hash browns, paninis, cornbread and cookies, and the Proctor Silex listing names hash browns. A small, flat-plate appliance is better for eggs, though; see our guides to the best egg cooker and the best electric griddle.

Our final pick for chaffles

For most cooks, the ceramic Dash Mini is the iron to buy: it is the size chaffle recipes are written for, its coating copes well with cheese and the warranty is clear. Choose the Proctor Silex double if you cook for two, and the Dash Multi Mini if you cook for a family or prep a week of chaffles at once. Choose a 5-inch iron, the Nostalgia MyMini or the thicker Elite Gourmet, only if a bigger round matters more to you than following a recipe exactly.
