The word Rubbermaid on a box tells you very little. The brand sells a latching line that won two of the toughest published tests we’ve read, and a press-on line that came near the bottom of the same tests. Buying the wrong one is an easy mistake, because they sit side by side.
So this guide is for the cook who has already picked Rubbermaid and wants to know which line to buy. We’ve compared Brilliance with Easy Find Lids directly, and we’ve said where the brand falls behind its rivals.

Quick verdict: which Rubbermaid line to buy
Buy Rubbermaid Brilliance for anything wet: the 14-piece plastic set for most people, or the Brilliance Glass 8-Piece if you want to bake in it. Both won America’s Test Kitchen’s tests. Use Easy Find Lids only for dry snacks, because it leaked in the two tests we read. For a removable gasket, look at OXO Smart Seal.

Our picks for the best rubbermaid food storage
1. Rubbermaid Brilliance 14-Piece Food Storage Set – The Line That Earned Its Name

Brilliance is the Rubbermaid line to buy for most food, and independent results back that up. America’s Test Kitchen named the Brilliance plastic set its winner, Highly Recommended, after blue water stayed inside during a shake test. Prudent Reviews saw both the plastic and glass versions pass its leak and airtight tests, with no visible staining from tomato sauce.
Those tests used other Brilliance sets (America’s Test Kitchen’s had 10 pieces), and the 10-piece is on our parent guide, so we list this 14-piece mix here. The listing describes clear Tritan plastic, latches with vents under them for reheating, and containers that stack. Rubbermaid says microwave for reheating only, with the latches lifted.
The complaint is the lid. Prudent Reviews writes that opening and closing it takes some effort, and that the gasket isn’t removable, which makes a thorough cleaning harder. America’s Test Kitchen, by contrast, found its attached gasket easy to clean. A leftover carnitas or a red salsa is what this set is for.
Why we like it
- Winner in America’s Test Kitchen’s plastic test
- Passed Prudent Reviews’ leak and airtight tests
- Vented lids for reheating, per the listing
- Clear walls show what’s inside
Key specifications
| Model | 2108377 |
|---|---|
| Material | BPA-free Tritan plastic |
| Set and sizes | 7 containers with lids (14 pieces); mix per the listing |
| Lid | Latching gasket lid |
| Leak result or claim | Passed in two published tests |
| Microwave | Reheat only, latches up |
| Dishwasher | Top rack; also freezer safe |
| Warranty on listing | Not stated on this listing |
Why we recommend it
It suits most households: leftovers, saucy food, and lunches that ride in a bag.
Skip it if you have stiff hands. The latches take real effort, and a press-on lid may suit you better, with the leak risk that brings.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Strongest independent results of any Rubbermaid line
- Doesn’t shatter like glass
- Stacks well
Cons
- Lids take effort to open and close
- Gasket isn’t removable
- Reheating only in the microwave
2. Rubbermaid Brilliance Glass 8-Piece Set – Glass That Can Bake

Same latching lid, with a glass base. America’s Test Kitchen rated the Brilliance glass set its winner too, Highly Recommended, saying the seals never leaked, the set was easy to press, open and close, and the extra-wide rims and flat lids stacked well. Rubbermaid lists the bases as oven safe to 450°F, so a tray of leftover enchiladas can go straight in, with the lid off.
Prudent Reviews saw this version pass its bake test, though it dislikes the fixed gasket here. Its top overall pick was OXO Smart Seal, because that gasket comes out. This four-container set is the small way in; the larger 9-container set is on our parent guide.
Why we like it
- Winner in America’s Test Kitchen’s glass test
- Oven safe to 450°F, per Rubbermaid
- One lid system across Brilliance plastic and glass, per the listing
Key specifications
| Model | 2118313 |
|---|---|
| Material | Glass base, plastic lid |
| Set and sizes | 4 containers with lids (8 pieces), assorted |
| Lid | Latching gasket lid |
| Leak result or claim | Never leaked for America’s Test Kitchen |
| Microwave | Reheat only, latches up |
| Dishwasher | Dishwasher, lids top rack; also freezer safe |
| Warranty on listing | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits someone who reheats in glass and wants to bake in the same container.
Skip it if weight matters in your lunch bag. Glass adds a lot, and it can break.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Bakes and stores
- Stain and odor resistant, per the listing
- Flat lids stack
Cons
- Heavier than plastic
- Lid isn’t oven safe
- Fixed gasket
3. Rubbermaid Brilliance Pantry 8-Piece Set – Tall Sizes for Dry Goods

The pantry version keeps the clear look and the latches, in much larger sizes: 16, 12, 7.8 and 3.2 cups. That fits flour, sugar, dried chiles, masa harina and beans. Esther Kurtz at Kosher.com tried six brands of pantry containers and made Brilliance her overall winner, reporting a tight seal and that it didn’t budge when dropped from five feet.
That’s a small, informal test. She also noted it doesn’t stack as easily as OXO POP. The listing gives a lifetime warranty. For a fuller set, see our pantry storage guide, which carries a 10-piece Brilliance set and other makers.
Why we like it
- Four useful dry-goods sizes
- Stayed shut in Kosher.com’s drop test
- Lifetime warranty, per the listing
Key specifications
| Model | 1994253 |
|---|---|
| Material | BPA-free Tritan plastic |
| Set and sizes | 4 containers with lids (8 pieces): 16, 12, 7.8, 3.2 cups |
| Lid | Latching gasket lid |
| Leak result or claim | Listed as leakproof; tight seal per Kosher.com |
| Microwave | Not stated for this set |
| Dishwasher | Dishwasher; also freezer safe |
| Warranty on listing | Lifetime, per the listing |
Why we recommend it
It suits a pantry where containers get knocked about, or a house with small children.
Skip it if you want one-handed opening. OXO POP’s button is easier, though its lid popped off in that same drop test.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Tall sizes fit bags of staples
- Clear on all sides
- Survived a drop
Cons
- Two latches per lid
- Less easy to stack than OXO, per Kosher.com
- Evidence here is informal
4. Rubbermaid Easy Find Lids 26-Piece Set – Handy for Dry Food, Not Soup

Easy Find Lids is the line people ask about, and we include it because you should know what you’re getting. Lids snap to their bases and to each other, one lid fits several sizes, and the set runs from 0.5-cup to 7-cup. As an idea it solves a real annoyance, the drawer full of lids that fit nothing.
The test results are poor. America’s Test Kitchen rated a 26-piece set from this line Not Recommended: press-down lids leaked, a container shattered when dropped from about 2 feet, and lids and bases kept odors. Prudent Reviews found it was one of only two sets to drip while shaken, and it held the strongest garlic smell of any set tested. Prudent recommends it only for dry foods. It also says you need to press firmly on all four corners to get a full seal.
So use it for crackers, cut bread, snacks and dry goods. Don’t trust it with caldo. Compare this with Brilliance above, and it’s clear which line should hold your sauces.
Why we like it
- Lids snap together, per the listing
- One lid fits several bases, per the listing
- Vented lids for the microwave, per the listing
Key specifications
| Model | 2213751 |
|---|---|
| Material | Plastic |
| Set and sizes | 13 containers with lids (26 pieces), 0.5 to 7 cup |
| Lid | Press-on vented lid |
| Leak result or claim | Leaked for America’s Test Kitchen and Prudent Reviews |
| Microwave | Not stated on this listing |
| Dishwasher | Not stated on this listing |
| Warranty on listing | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits someone who stores dry snacks and hates hunting for lids. That’s as far as we’d go.
Skip it if you store liquids, sauces or anything strong-smelling. Both reviewers found leaks or lasting odors.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Lid storage is solved
- Lots of sizes
- Light
Cons
- Leaked in two published tests
- Holds odors
- Cracked when dropped in one test
- Cloudy walls, per Prudent Reviews

5. Rubbermaid EasyStore 18-Piece Large Set – Larger Sizes, New Line

EasyStore is a newer Rubbermaid line, with ridged lids for steady stacking and an extended lip to help you carry the container. This is the larger-size set. Rubbermaid says the line is made in the USA. The piece sizes aren’t spelled out in what we could read, so check the photo panel on the listing.
We didn’t find an independent test of EasyStore in the reviews we read, so this pick rests on the listing alone. The listing has an unfinished claim about durability, with a blank disclaimer, so we aren’t repeating it. Think of this as a storage box rather than a leak-tested carrier, because no one we read has said otherwise.
Why we like it
- Ridged lids for stacking, per the listing
- Extended lip to carry by, per the listing
- Made in the USA, per the listing
Key specifications
| Model | 2210142 |
|---|---|
| Material | Plastic; type not stated |
| Set and sizes | 9 containers with lids (18 pieces); sizes not stated |
| Lid | Ridged lid |
| Leak result or claim | Not stated |
| Microwave | Not stated |
| Dishwasher | Not stated |
| Warranty on listing | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits someone packing bulk leftovers for the fridge or freezer who wants plain, stackable boxes.
Skip it if you need leak-tested lids. Buy Brilliance for that.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Designed to stack
- Easy to carry by the lip
- US-made, per the listing
Cons
- No independent test found
- Listing leaves sizes unstated
- Listing has an unfinished durability claim
6. Rubbermaid TakeAlongs 26-Container Set – Containers You Can Lend Out

TakeAlongs are the containers you don’t mind losing: food that goes to a neighbor, a potluck or a kid’s locker. This set has 26 containers from 0.5 to 8 cups, 52 pieces in all. Rubbermaid’s QuikClik lids make an audible click when they close, and they have ridges for stacking.
Rubbermaid says these are BPA-free, top-rack dishwasher safe and freezer safe, and that the base is safe for reheating in a microwave. No reviewer we read tested this line, so we rest this on the listing. We wouldn’t expect it to hold liquid in a bag. That’s our judgment rather than a test, based on the fact that the listing doesn’t call them leakproof.
Why we like it
- 26 containers, seven sizes
- Audible click on closing, per the listing
- Ridged lids stack
Key specifications
| Model | 2108385 |
|---|---|
| Material | BPA-free plastic |
| Set and sizes | 26 containers with lids (52 pieces), 0.5 to 8 cup |
| Lid | Press-on QuikClik lid |
| Leak result or claim | Not claimed on this listing |
| Microwave | Base only, for reheating |
| Dishwasher | Top rack; also freezer safe |
| Warranty on listing | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits a family or cook who regularly sends food out of the house.
Skip it if you want one good set for years. Buy fewer Brilliance pieces instead.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Lots of containers
- Fine for giving away
- Simple lids
Cons
- No leak claim
- Takes cabinet space
- No independent test found
7. Rubbermaid Premium Modular 18-Cup Cereal Keepers – Large Bins for Cereal and Rice

This pair holds 18 cups each, which is cereal, dog food, or the large bag of rice or masa that won’t fit anywhere else. The lids are see-through, the bases are clear with graduation marks for portioning, and the design stacks. Rubbermaid lists BPA-free plastic that’s dishwasher safe.
This listing doesn’t claim an airtight seal, so don’t assume one. If you’re fighting humidity in a Houston kitchen, the Brilliance Pantry’s gasket lid is the safer call. Our cereal container guide compares the Flex and Seal keeper and others.
Why we like it
- Large 18-cup size
- Graduation marks for portioning
- Stackable, per the listing
Key specifications
| Model | 2108400 |
|---|---|
| Material | BPA-free plastic |
| Set and sizes | 2 containers with lids (4 pieces), 18 cups each |
| Lid | Modular lid |
| Leak result or claim | No airtight claim on this listing |
| Microwave | Not stated |
| Dishwasher | Dishwasher |
| Warranty on listing | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits a house going through a lot of a single dry food.
Skip it if you need an airtight seal. This listing doesn’t promise one.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Holds a big bag
- See-through
- Measures as it holds
Cons
- No stated seal
- Bulky
- No independent test found
8. Rubbermaid FreshWorks 7.2-Cup Produce Saver – A Box Just for Produce

FreshWorks is a different kind of box. Its built-in FreshVent filter regulates oxygen and carbon dioxide, and a raised base holds produce off any moisture. Rubbermaid says the filter lasts for life, with no refills. That means no carbon packets to buy, unlike some rivals. Rubbermaid’s own instructions say to put in unwashed, uncut produce, and that it works best with one type of produce to a box.
Those freshness claims are Rubbermaid’s. We didn’t read a test of them, so think of this as a tidy fridge box with a raised floor, and treat anything extra as a bonus. Cilantro, jalapeños and limes all fit this medium size. It’s sold here by ZenPack, not by Amazon. Larger sizes are on our fridge organizer guide.
Why we like it
- Built-in filter with no refills, per Rubbermaid
- Raised base, per the listing
- Bases nest, and one lid fits multiple bases
Key specifications
| Model | 2114814 |
|---|---|
| Material | BPA-free plastic |
| Set and sizes | 1 container, 7.2 cups |
| Lid | Vented filter lid |
| Leak result or claim | Vented; not for liquids |
| Microwave | Not stated |
| Dishwasher | Dishwasher |
| Warranty on listing | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits a cook who keeps throwing out herbs and peppers and wants a set place for them.
Skip it if you wash and cut produce ahead. Rubbermaid’s instructions call for it unwashed and uncut.
Pros and cons
Pros
- No refills to buy
- Keeps produce off moisture
- Tidies the crisper
Cons
- Freshness claim isn’t independently read
- Third-party seller
- Single container
Brilliance vs Easy Find Lids, and where Rubbermaid falls short
The two lines are built differently, and the tests reflect it. Brilliance has a gasket and two latches. Easy Find Lids is a press-on lid with no latches. America’s Test Kitchen rated Brilliance Highly Recommended and the Easy Find Lids set Not Recommended. Prudent Reviews, using its own leak, airtight, stain and odor tests, found the same split.
That isn’t a surprise when you see how they close. Prudent Reviews says Easy Find Lids need firm pressure on all four corners to seal. If you miss a corner, you’ve got a leak. Brilliance’s latches do that work for you, at the cost of more effort at each opening.
Rubbermaid does fall short in a few places. Prudent Reviews named OXO Smart Seal the best overall, largely for its removable gasket and smooth latches, and it called Amazon Basics the best value. America’s Test Kitchen, on the other hand, put OXO’s glass set behind Brilliance, because its latches needed much more force. So reviewers don’t fully agree, and the removable gasket is the main reason to look elsewhere. If that’s what you care about, read our food storage containers guide.
The other shortfall is evidence. Only the Brilliance lines and Easy Find Lids have tests we could read. EasyStore, TakeAlongs, Modular and FreshWorks rest on Rubbermaid’s own listing details, and each write-up says so.

How to choose a Rubbermaid line
Start with what’s in it. Sauces, soup and anything oily should go in Brilliance. Dry snacks can go almost anywhere.
Decide on glass or plastic. Plastic is lighter and doesn’t shatter, but Rubbermaid limits it to reheating in the microwave. Glass goes in the oven to 450°F, per Rubbermaid, though the lid doesn’t.
Think about your hands. Reviewers disagree about how easy Brilliance’s latches are. America’s Test Kitchen and Kosher.com found them easy. Prudent Reviews says they take some effort. Try one before you buy a houseful.
Mind the gasket. Brilliance’s stays attached. If you’re strict about cleaning gaskets, that’s a real limit.
Stay in one family. Brilliance lids fit across containers of that family, per the listing, so buying more of it keeps your lid drawer simple. Check the seller if the offer doesn’t come from Amazon.

How we picked these Rubbermaid lines
We haven’t used these containers ourselves. We counted genuinely different lines, not pack sizes, and we checked every listing for stock and a new offer using Amazon’s data. Exact listings already on our other guides are out. The reviews we read are America’s Test Kitchen’s plastic and glass tests from December 2025, Prudent Reviews’ updated test from September 2026, which earns affiliate fees, and Esther Kurtz’s informal comparison on Kosher.com.
Those reviewers tested specific Brilliance sets, not all of the packs here, so we apply their results to the line. The recall database shows only two Rubbermaid recalls by brand, a toboggan and a children’s hamper from the 1990s, with nothing on food storage.
Rubbermaid food storage questions, answered
Is Rubbermaid Brilliance really leakproof?
It passed America’s Test Kitchen’s shake test and Prudent Reviews’ leak test. Rubbermaid calls it 100 percent leakproof. Those are good signs, not a promise for every bag and bump.
Is Brilliance or Easy Find Lids better?
Brilliance, by a long way, in both tests we read. Easy Find Lids is best kept for dry food.
Can Brilliance go in the microwave?
Yes, for reheating only, with the latches lifted, per Rubbermaid. The plastic version isn’t oven safe. The glass base is, to 450°F, without its lid.
Is Brilliance BPA-free?
Rubbermaid lists Tritan plastic that’s BPA-free. We don’t make further health claims beyond that.
Do Brilliance lids stain?
Prudent Reviews saw no visible discoloration after its tomato sauce test, and only a slight garlic odor remained.
Our final pick for Rubbermaid storage
Choose the Brilliance 14-Piece for everyday use, and add the Brilliance Glass set if you reheat in the oven. We wouldn’t spend money on anything else until those two are covered. Also see our guides to meal prep containers and glass food storage containers.
