A small toaster oven earns its counter space by doing the jobs a full oven is too big for. Two bolillos split for molletes, a plate of leftover enchiladas, a few corn tortillas crisped into tostadas, a quesadilla for one: heating a 30-inch oven for any of those wastes time and warms the whole kitchen. A compact oven does them in a box about the size of a microwave or smaller.
This guide is for kitchens where space is the first limit: apartments, galley kitchens, dorms, RVs and counters already crowded with a coffee maker and a blender. Eight ovens are below, each with the maker’s stated capacity, functions and controls, and the exterior size where the maker or a major retailer gives one, because in a small kitchen the outside dimensions matter as much as what fits inside.

Quick verdict: which small toaster oven to buy
For most small kitchens, buy the Breville Compact Smart Oven: five quartz elements, eight cooking functions, an LCD display and a stated interior of 12 x 10 x 4.25 inches in a 16.7 x 15.6 x 10.2-inch box. For air frying in the smallest footprint, the Our Place Wonder Oven; to replace a pop-up toaster too, the Hamilton Beach 2-in-1 Oven and Toaster; on a budget, the Proctor Silex 4-Slice Toaster Oven with its stated three-year warranty; and for a dorm or RV, the 8-liter, 750-watt OVENTE TO2808B.
If you have room for a full-size countertop oven that fits a 9 x 13 pan, our main guide to the best toaster oven covers the larger models, plus several compact ones, including Breville’s Mini Smart Oven, Panasonic’s FlashXpress and BLACK+DECKER’s basic four-slice. To avoid repeating that page, every oven below is different: we looked for compact ovens with a stated slice count or size that the main guide does not review.

Our picks for the best small toaster oven
The eight ovens below run from an 8-liter dorm oven to a compact smart oven with a 12 x 10-inch interior. Three can air fry. Each pick gives the maker’s stated capacity, power, functions and warranty, and one honest reason to skip it.
1. Breville Compact Smart Oven – Smart Heat in a Smaller Box

Breville says the Compact Smart Oven has most of the features of its larger Smart Oven in a smaller footprint, and the numbers support that. Five independent quartz elements are run by Breville’s Element iQ system, which the maker says steers power where and when it is needed, and the oven draws 1,800 watts for a fast preheat.
The listing gives an interior of 12 x 10 x 4.25 inches, room for four slices of toast, a 12-inch pizza or a roast chicken, in an exterior of 16.7 x 15.6 x 10.2 inches. That is a real step down from full-size countertop ovens while still fitting a quarter-sheet-style tray of tostadas or a small casserole of enchiladas.
There are eight cooking functions: Toast, Bagel, Bake, Broil, Pizza, Roast, Cookies and Reheat, chosen on an LCD display. The interior walls have a non-stick coating for easier cleaning. Breville lists a one-year limited warranty. Note that it has no convection fan and no air-fry mode; Breville sells a separate air-fry compact model for that.
Why we like it
- Five quartz elements with Element iQ control.
- Stated interior of 12 x 10 x 4.25 inches.
- Eight functions on an LCD display.
- Non-stick interior walls.
Key specifications
| Model | BOV650XL |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 4 slices; 12 x 10 x 4.25 in interior |
| Power | 1,800 W |
| Functions | 8: toast, bagel, bake, broil, pizza, roast, cookies, reheat |
| Exterior size | 16.7 x 15.6 x 10.2 in |
| Controls | LCD display |
| Cleaning | Non-stick interior |
| Warranty | 1-year limited |
Why we recommend it
It suits a small kitchen that still wants one oven to toast, broil and bake well, with precise digital controls.
Skip it if you want to air fry; this model has no convection or air-fry setting.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Most capable controls of the group.
- Usable interior for its size.
- Fast 1,800-watt preheat.
Cons
- No air fry or convection.
- One-year warranty only.
- Widest of the compact picks at 16.7 inches.
2. Our Place Wonder Oven – Air Fry and Steam in a Cube

The Wonder Oven is the smallest air-frying oven we found from an identifiable maker. Our Place lists a 12-liter interior with two cooking levels, sized for two to four people, that still fits a whole 4.5-pound chicken. Published reviews put the exterior at about 11.6 x 11.5 x 10.6 inches, close to a cube, so it tucks into a corner better than a wide, shallow oven.
It has six functions: air fry, bake, roast, toast, broil and reheat, with a 200 to 450°F range and a 360-degree convection fan. The feature that sets it apart is what Our Place calls steam infusion: you add one to two teaspoons of water to put moisture back into food, which the maker suggests for stale bread and leftovers. That is a sensible match for day-old bolillos and leftover tamales, which tend to dry out in a plain toaster oven.
Our Place also says it preheats 75 percent faster than traditional ovens. Reviewers list it at about 1,400 watts. A wire rack, air-fry basket, bake pan and crumb tray are included. The Amazon listing does not state a warranty term.
Why we like it
- Near-cube footprint, about 11.6 inches wide.
- Air fry plus five other functions.
- Steam infusion for reheating bread and leftovers.
- Two cooking levels in 12 liters.
Key specifications
| Model | Wonder Oven (APL.WDO) |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 12 L, 2 levels; fits a 4.5 lb chicken |
| Power | About 1,400 W (reviewers) |
| Functions | 6: air fry, bake, roast, toast, broil, reheat; steam infusion |
| Exterior size | About 11.6 x 11.5 x 10.6 in (reviewer) |
| Controls | 200–450°F range; control type not stated |
| Cleaning | Crumb tray |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits a small household that wants an air fryer and a toaster oven in one compact box, and reheats bread and leftovers often.
Skip it if you mostly make toast for four; it is built around air frying and reheating, and the listing does not give a slice count.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Smallest air-frying pick.
- Steam setting for leftovers.
- Two racks in a small box.
Cons
- No slice count or warranty in the listing.
- Exterior size and wattage come from reviewers, not the listing.
3. Hamilton Beach 2-in-1 Oven and Toaster – Toaster Slot on Top

In a small kitchen, two appliances in one footprint is the biggest saving available. This Hamilton Beach puts a long-slot pop-up toaster on top of a 16.5-liter countertop oven, so you can drop the separate toaster. The slot holds two regular slices or one long slice with five shade settings, and Hamilton Beach says it toasts 40 percent faster than the leading toaster oven competitor.
The oven below has four modes, bake, broil, toast and keep warm, two rack positions and temperatures up to 450°F. Hamilton Beach says it fits a 9-inch pizza or three-quarters of a pound of fries. A 60-minute timer with a ready bell, a Stay On setting for longer bakes and automatic shutoff are listed, with a bake pan, oven rack and slide-out crumb tray included.
Home Depot lists the assembled size at about 17.5 inches wide, 10.75 deep and 10 high. It is wide, but shallow, and it replaces a toaster that would otherwise take its own spot. Hamilton Beach lists a one-year warranty; the listing does not state the wattage.
Why we like it
- Pop-up toaster and oven in one footprint.
- 60-minute timer with Stay On and auto shutoff.
- Fits a 9-inch pizza, per the maker.
- Shallow depth, about 10.75 inches.
Key specifications
| Model | 31156 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 16.5 L oven; 2-slice toaster slot |
| Power | Not stated |
| Functions | Bake, broil, toast, keep warm; 5 toast shades |
| Exterior size | About 17.5 x 10.75 x 10 in (retailer) |
| Controls | Dials; 60-min timer, Stay On, up to 450°F |
| Cleaning | Slide-out crumb tray |
| Warranty | 1 year |
Why we recommend it
It suits a kitchen with room for only one bread appliance that still wants an oven for small bakes and reheating.
Skip it if counter width is your limit; at about 17.5 inches it is the widest oven here.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Replaces a separate toaster.
- Long timer with Stay On.
- Shallow depth.
Cons
- Wide footprint.
- Wattage not stated.
- Toaster slot takes two slices only.
4. Proctor Silex 4-Slice Toaster Oven – Plain Dials, Three-Year Warranty

This Proctor Silex is the simplest four-slice oven here. It toasts, broils and bakes, with a 200 to 450°F temperature dial and a 30-minute timer with a ready bell, and it shuts off automatically. The listing describes the controls as manual and straightforward, which suits anyone who wants to turn two knobs and walk away.
It fits four slices of bread at once, and comes with a bake pan and an oven rack. The crumb tray drops down from the bottom for cleaning. Best Buy and Kohl’s list it at about 15.3 inches wide, 11.5 deep and 8 high, and rate it at 1,100 watts, a modest draw that suits older wiring or a shared circuit.
The standout for a budget oven is the warranty: the listing states three years, longer than any other oven in this guide.
Why we like it
- Stated three-year warranty.
- Four slices in about 15 inches of width.
- Simple knobs, 30-minute timer, auto shutoff.
Key specifications
| Model | 31260 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 4 slices |
| Power | 1,100 W (retailer) |
| Functions | Toast, broil, bake |
| Exterior size | About 15.3 x 11.5 x 8 in (retailer) |
| Controls | Dials; 200–450°F, 30-min timer |
| Cleaning | Drop-down crumb tray |
| Warranty | 3 years |
Why we recommend it
It suits a cook who wants toast, melted cheese and reheated leftovers from a simple, low-cost oven with a long warranty.
Skip it if you want keep-warm, convection or air fry; it toasts, broils and bakes, and nothing more.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Longest warranty here.
- Easy dial controls.
- Compact four-slice size.
Cons
- Three functions only.
- 30-minute timer limits longer bakes.
5. OVENTE 8L Toaster Oven TO2808B – A Small Dial Oven for Dorms and RVs

OVENTE’s TO2808B is an 8-liter dial oven that the listing pitches at smaller kitchens, dorms and RVs. That is the smallest stated capacity on this page, a liter under Elite Gourmet’s ETO490. The listing does not give exterior dimensions or a slice count, so measure the space and check the box size before you order.
It runs at 750 watts, well below the 1,800 watts of a full-power compact oven, which helps in an RV or a dorm with appliance limits. Two dials set the temperature, from 150 to 450°F, and a 60-minute timer with a bell and automatic shut-off. It bakes, broils, toasts and reheats, with a baking pan and a wire rack that fit two rack positions, plus a removable crumb tray.
OVENTE gives a one-year limited warranty and says its customer service is US-based. This is a plain radiant oven, with no convection fan and no air fry setting.
Why we like it
- 8-liter capacity, the smallest stated here.
- 750 watts for limited circuits.
- 60-minute timer with auto shut-off.
- Adjustable 150–450°F.
Key specifications
| Model | TO2808B |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 8 L (slice count not stated) |
| Power | 750 W |
| Temperature | 150–450°F |
| Timer | 60 minutes, auto shut-off |
| Functions | Bake, broil, toast, reheat |
| Exterior size | Not stated |
| Accessories | Baking pan, wire rack, crumb tray |
| Warranty | 1 year limited |
Why we recommend it
It suits a dorm room, an RV or a one-person kitchen that needs toast, reheated leftovers or a couple of tostadas from a small, low-wattage box.
Skip it if you need four slices at once or want to know the exact footprint before buying; the listing gives neither.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Small stated capacity.
- Low wattage.
- Long 60-minute timer.
Cons
- Exterior size not stated.
- Slice count not stated.
- No convection or air fry.
6. Cuisinart Custom Classic Toaster Oven Broiler – Six Slices, Still Compact

Cuisinart’s Custom Classic TOB-40N is the roomiest oven here that the maker still calls small. Its 0.5-cubic-foot interior takes six slices of bread or four bagel halves, an 11-inch pizza or a family-sized casserole, according to the listing. That makes it the pick for a small kitchen that feeds three or four.
It draws 1,800 watts and covers toast, bagel, bake, broil, pizza and keep warm. Cuisinart’s Always Even Shade Control watches the toasting temperature and adjusts the time so batch after batch comes out the same shade. Practical touches include a cool-touch handle, easy-grip dials, automatic shutoff, a rack that slides out when you open the door and a non-stick interior. A wire rack, broiling rack, baking and drip pan, front crumb tray and recipe book are included.
Cuisinart does not give exterior dimensions in the listing, and retailers differ; Best Buy gives a width of about 14.6 inches and a height of 8.9. The warranty is also inconsistent: the listing’s warranty field says two years, while a feature line says a limited three-year warranty. Check the box before you rely on either.
Why we like it
- Six slices or four bagel halves.
- Always Even Shade Control.
- Auto-slide rack and cool-touch handle.
- Broiling rack and recipe book included.
Key specifications
| Model | TOB-40N |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 0.5 cu ft; 6 slices |
| Power | 1,800 W |
| Functions | Toast, bagel, bake, broil, pizza, keep warm |
| Exterior size | Not stated by Cuisinart; about 14.6 in wide (retailer) |
| Controls | Dials; shade control |
| Cleaning | Non-stick interior, front crumb tray |
| Warranty | 2 or 3 years (listing conflicts) |
Why we recommend it
It suits a small kitchen feeding a family, where six slices at once matters more than the smallest possible box.
Skip it if you want air fry or convection; this is a classic radiant-heat oven.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Largest capacity in a compact oven.
- Even toasting control.
- Good set of accessories.
Cons
- No exterior size in the listing.
- Warranty stated two ways.
7. Hamilton Beach 4-Slice Air Fryer Toaster Oven – Air Fry Without the Bulk

This Hamilton Beach adds a convection air-fry mode to a four-slice oven. The listing names four functions, toast, bake, air fry and broil, with a 200 to 450°F range, a 30-minute timer and automatic shutoff. A metal air-fry basket, bake pan and broil rack are included, plus a slide-out crumb tray.
Hamilton Beach is specific about what fits: four slices of toast, a 9-inch pizza, a 3-pound chicken in an 8 x 8-inch pan, or a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan. For a small household that is enough for a tray of air-fried taquitos, a pan of chilaquiles bake or a small meatloaf.
Compared with the Our Place Wonder Oven, this is the plainer, dial-controlled way to get air frying in a small oven. The listing does not give exterior dimensions or wattage. Hamilton Beach lists a one-year warranty.
Why we like it
- Air fry, toast, bake and broil.
- Maker lists what fits, including an 8 x 8 pan.
- Metal air-fry basket included.
Key specifications
| Model | 31403 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 4 slices; 8 x 8 in or 9 x 5 in pan |
| Power | Not stated |
| Functions | Toast, bake, air fry, broil |
| Exterior size | Not stated |
| Controls | Dials; 200–450°F, 30-min timer |
| Cleaning | Slide-out crumb tray |
| Warranty | 1 year |
Why we recommend it
It suits a cook who wants basic air frying in a four-slice oven with plain dials.
Skip it if you need to know the exact footprint before buying; the listing does not give one.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Air fry in a four-slice oven.
- Clear list of pan sizes that fit.
- Simple controls.
Cons
- No size or wattage in the listing.
- 30-minute timer.
8. Elite Gourmet ETO490 4-Slice Toaster Oven – Four Slices at 800 Watts

The ETO490 is Elite Gourmet’s 9-liter, four-slice oven that still runs at a modest 800 watts. That combination suits a dorm or RV where you need room for four slices but cannot run an 1,800-watt appliance.
It bakes, broils and toasts, with temperature adjustable from 200 to 450°F and a 30-minute timer. There are two rack positions, and a baking pan, wire rack and removable crumb tray are included. Elite Gourmet describes it as compact, built for smaller spaces, but the listing does not give exterior dimensions or a warranty term.
At 800 watts, expect slower toasting and preheating than the 1,800-watt ovens above; it is a warming and toasting oven more than a baking one.
Why we like it
- Four slices at 800 watts.
- Two rack positions.
- Removable crumb tray.
Key specifications
| Model | ETO490 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 9 L; 4 slices |
| Power | 800 W |
| Functions | Bake, broil, toast |
| Exterior size | Not stated |
| Controls | Dials; 200–450°F, 30-min timer |
| Cleaning | Removable crumb tray |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits a dorm room or RV that needs four-slice capacity on a low-wattage circuit.
Skip it if speed matters; 800 watts is slow next to the 1,800-watt ovens here.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Low power draw for four slices.
- Two rack positions.
- Accessories included.
Cons
- Slow to heat.
- No size or warranty in the listing.
How to choose a toaster oven for a small kitchen
In a small kitchen, the right oven is the one that fits the space you have and the food you actually make. Start with a tape measure, then think about capacity, power and features.

Measure the space, including clearance
Measure the width, depth and height of the spot, including any cabinet above it. Toaster ovens get hot on the outside, and makers’ manuals call for space around them for ventilation; BLACK+DECKER’s listings, for example, warn that outer surfaces get hot and to allow room for ventilation. Do not tuck a toaster oven under a low cabinet or against a wall unless the manual allows it.
Slice count is a rough guide
Two-slice ovens suit one person; four-slice ovens suit two or three; six slices, as in the Cuisinart, starts to feed a family. Where the maker gives interior dimensions or pan sizes, use those instead: Breville states 12 x 10 x 4.25 inches inside, and Hamilton Beach lists an 8 x 8-inch pan for its air-fryer oven. Check that a quarter sheet pan or your favorite baking dish fits before you buy.
Power and your circuit
Full-power compact ovens draw 1,800 watts, which heats quickly but can trip a breaker shared with a kettle or microwave. If you are in a dorm, an RV or an older apartment, the 750-watt OVENTE TO2808B or the 800-watt Elite Gourmet ETO490 put less load on the circuit, at the cost of slower heating.
Air fry or not
An air-fry mode is a strong convection fan. It crisps frozen foods and reheats fried leftovers well, and in a small kitchen it can replace a separate air fryer. If you already own one, a plain toaster oven is simpler. Our guide to the best air fryer covers the basket kind.
Controls, timer and cleaning
Dials are quick and easy to read; digital controls, as on the Breville, give more precise settings. Look at the timer length too: 30 minutes on several ovens here will stop a longer bake partway; the OVENTE runs to 60. A removable crumb tray and a non-stick interior make cleaning a small oven much easier.
Recalls
Before buying any toaster oven, search its brand and model on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recalls page. When we checked CPSC’s published recall list for this guide, we found no recall for any of the eight models here. CPSC did recall Panasonic’s NB-G200 toaster ovens in July 2026, a model this page does not review.
How we chose these eight compact ovens
We searched the compact and four-slice toaster ovens sold on Amazon from identifiable makers, including Breville, Our Place, Hamilton Beach, Proctor Silex, Elite Gourmet, OVENTE and Cuisinart, and checked each through the Amazon product data for stock, the maker’s stated capacity, wattage, functions and warranty. Where a listing did not give an exterior size, we took it from a major retailer or a published review and marked it so. We left out every oven our main toaster oven guide already reviews, ovens that were scarce or only available later, and listings that mixed up model numbers.
We have not cooked with these ovens ourselves. Where a maker does not state a size, wattage or warranty, the specifications say so.

Small toaster oven questions, answered
What is the best quality small toaster oven?
Of the ovens here, the Breville Compact Smart Oven has the most advanced heating and controls: five quartz elements managed by Breville’s Element iQ system and an LCD display. If you need air frying in a small box, the Our Place Wonder Oven is the compact alternative.
What is the best toaster oven for a small kitchen with almost no counter space?
The OVENTE TO2808B has the smallest stated capacity here, 8 liters, though OVENTE does not give its outside size, so measure first. If you can spare a little more room and want to free up space elsewhere, the Hamilton Beach 2-in-1 replaces your pop-up toaster as well.
Can a small toaster oven replace my full oven?
For one or two people, it can handle most daily cooking: toast, reheating, small bakes and broiling. It will not take a 9 x 13 pan or a large roast. For that, see the larger ovens in our toaster oven guide.
Is a toaster oven better than a microwave for reheating?
For anything that should be crisp, such as tortillas, tostadas, empanadas or fried food, yes; a toaster oven heats the surface, while a microwave can leave it soft. A microwave is faster for soups and saucy dishes. Our guide to reheating Mexican leftovers goes dish by dish, and our countertop microwave guide covers the other half of the job.
Small toaster oven or a regular toaster?
A pop-up toaster only toasts bread. A small toaster oven also melts cheese, crisps tortillas, reheats leftovers and bakes small batches. If you only ever make toast, see our guide to the best toaster; if you want both, the Hamilton Beach 2-in-1 combines them.

The small oven we’d make room for
Buy the Breville Compact Smart Oven for the most capable small oven, or the Our Place Wonder Oven if air frying matters more. The Hamilton Beach 2-in-1 frees up a toaster’s worth of counter, the Proctor Silex is the simple budget choice with a three-year warranty, and the 8-liter OVENTE TO2808B suits a dorm or RV.
Want air frying in a small footprint? See our guide to the best air fryer toaster ovens for small spaces.
For the full range of sizes, see our main guide to the best toaster oven, and keep a pair from the best oven mitts nearby, because small ovens put your hands close to the elements. If you would rather we did the cooking, see our menu or call to order.
