Measure First: Best Air Fryer Toaster Oven for Small Space

The best air fryer toaster oven for small space: seven compact ovens compared by outside size, capacity, power and warranty, including a flip-up.

A compact white kitchen with a microwave over the range, open wooden shelves and butcher-block counters
A compact kitchen with open shelves.

In a small kitchen, the countertop oven is often the only oven that gets used on a weeknight. It reheats a plate of flautas without turning them soggy, crisps a stack of corn tortillas into tostadas, toasts a split bolillo for a torta and, with an air fry setting, does most of what a basket air fryer does. The catch is space: a full-size air fryer toaster oven can be 20 inches wide and nearly as deep, which is more counter than many apartment kitchens have to spare.

This guide looks only at compact air fryer toaster ovens and gives the outside size of each one as the maker or a named retailer lists it, so you can measure your counter before you buy. Where listings disagree on a dimension, we say so. Every oven here toasts as well as air fries.

Quick verdict: which compact air fryer oven to buy

The best air fryer toaster oven for small space for most cooks is the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Compact: about 15.7 inches wide and 10 inches tall, with five air fry modes, an 11-inch pizza capacity and Breville’s Element IQ heating. If counter space is the real problem, the Ninja Flip folds up against the backsplash when you are done. For the smallest box, the Gourmia 4-Slice is listed at about 15 x 10.5 x 8.5 inches.

1. Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Compact – Air Fry Modes in a Smaller Box

Best overallBreville BOV680BSS Smart Oven Air Fryer Compact

The Smart Oven Air Fryer Compact (BOV680) is Breville’s smallest oven with a dedicated air fry setting. Breville lists it at 15.7 inches wide, 16.9 inches deep and 10 inches tall, so it is narrow and low but fairly deep: check that your counter is at least 17 inches from backsplash to edge before you order. Inside, Breville says it fits an 11-inch pizza and toasts four slices, and Breville’s support pages give the interior as 12 x 10.5 x 4.5 inches.

The dial gives ten functions: five air fry modes, including a Crispy Reheat setting that Breville says uses top and bottom heat with super convection for fried leftovers, plus Toast, Bagel, Pizza, Broil and Bake & Roast. Crispy Reheat is the mode that matters for a Mexican kitchen, where yesterday’s taquitos, chiles rellenos and fried tortilla chips go limp in a microwave. Breville’s Element IQ system steers power between separate heating elements, and an “A Bit More” button adds a little time at the end.

It comes with a broiling rack, roasting pan, air fry basket and a reversible oven rack. The Amazon listing gives a one-year manufacturer warranty.

Why we like it

  • Only 10 inches tall, so it fits under most wall cabinets (Breville).
  • Five air fry modes, including Crispy Reheat for fried leftovers (Breville).
  • Fits an 11-inch pizza in a compact body (Breville).
  • Element IQ steers heat between independent elements (listing).

Functions 10: five air fry modes, toast, bagel, pizza, broil, bake and roast

Accessories Broil rack, roasting pan, air fry basket, reversible rack
Warranty 1 year (listing)

Why we recommend it

It suits a cook who wants one small oven to do almost everything, from crisping leftovers to baking a small pan of enchiladas, without giving up a lot of width or height.

Skip it if your counter is shallow: at 16.9 inches deep it needs more front-to-back room than the Gourmia or Proctor Silex.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Low height for under-cabinet use
  • Dedicated reheat mode for fried food
  • 11-inch pizza capacity

Cons

  • Deepest oven here
  • Warranty shorter than Cuisinart’s or Proctor Silex’s

2. Ninja Flip Digital Air Fry Oven – Stands Up Against the Backsplash

Best for storing uprightNinja Digital Air Fry Countertop Oven

The Ninja SP101 takes a different approach to small spaces. It is a wide, flat oven, and when you finish cooking you flip it up so it stands on end against the backsplash. Ninja says it takes up 50% less counter space stored that way. Staples lists it at about 19.7 x 15 x 7.6 inches, so in use it is the widest oven here, but only about 7.6 inches tall; standing up, that low side becomes its depth.

The flat shape gives it a large pan. Ninja says it fits a 13-inch pizza, up to nine slices of toast or six chicken breasts, and it has eight functions: Air Fry, Air Roast, Air Broil, Bake, Bagel, Toast, Dehydrate and Keep Warm. The listing gives a 60-second preheat. That pan size is useful for a sheet of nachos or a full tray of tortilla strips for sopa de tortilla.

It comes with an air fry basket, sheet pan, wire rack and removable crumb tray, and Ninja says the back panel opens for deeper cleaning. The listing gives a one-year limited warranty.

Why we like it

  • Flips up to take 50% less counter space when stored (Ninja).
  • Fits a 13-inch pizza or nine slices of toast (Ninja).
  • Eight functions including Dehydrate and Keep Warm (listing).
  • Back panel opens for cleaning (listing).

Key specifications

It suits a kitchen where the counter has to be clear most of the day but the oven still needs to cook for three or four people when it is down.

Skip it if you have no stretch of backsplash about 20 inches wide to stand it against, or if you want a deep oven for a tall roast: it is low inside by design.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Stores upright, freeing most of its footprint
  • Largest pan here
  • Very low profile in use

Cons

  • Widest oven in this guide
  • Low interior limits tall foods
  • Retailer and buyer measurements differ slightly

3. Instant 4-Slice InstantHeat Air Fryer Toaster Oven – Little or No Preheat

Quickest startInstant Pot No Preheat Required* 4-Slice Air Fryer Toaster Oven with InstantHeat Technology

Instant’s 4-slice oven is built around what Instant calls InstantHeat technology, which the listing says needs no preheat for every function except Bake and Broil. Instant lists it at 15.67 inches wide, 13.31 inches deep and 11.5 inches tall, a squarer, shallower box than the Breville, and says it handles an 8-inch pizza, four slices of toast or a whole chicken.

There are seven functions: air fry, bake, toast, roast, broil, warm and pizza, with a top temperature of 450°F. Skipping the preheat is the point for a small household: reheating two tamales or crisping a quesadilla for one is quicker when you are not waiting for the box to come up to heat. A large window and an internal light let you check browning without opening the door.

Instant includes a chrome rack, chrome basket, enamel cooking tray, square baking pan and crumb tray, and gives a one-year limited warranty, rated at 1,500 watts.

Why we like it

  • No preheat needed except for Bake and Broil (listing).

  • Little or no waiting to start
  • Shallow enough for narrow counters

4. Cuisinart Compact Air Fryer Toaster Oven – Plain Dials, Three-Year Warranty

Best for simple dialsCuisinart Compact Air Fryer Toaster Oven

Cuisinart’s TOA-26 is the compact version of its popular air fryer toaster ovens. Retailers including P.C. Richard and Bloomingdale’s list it at about 15.5 inches wide, 12.5 inches deep and 11.5 inches tall; a few listings give larger figures, so measure against the box size if your space is tight. Cuisinart says it air fries up to 2.5 pounds of food and bakes an 8-inch pizza.

It has six functions: air fry, toast, convection bake, convection broil, pizza and warm, with a range from Warm to 450°F. Control is by dials, a temperature dial and a toast shade selector, which many cooks prefer to touch panels on a small oven. Canadian and other retailer listings rate it at 1,800 watts.

It comes with an oven rack, baking pan and air fry basket, and Cuisinart backs it with a limited three-year warranty, the longest here along with Proctor Silex’s.

Why we like it

  • Air fries up to 2.5 pounds of food (Cuisinart).
  • Limited three-year warranty (listing).
  • Simple dial controls with a toast shade selector (listing).

5. Gourmia 4-Slice Digital Air Fryer Toaster Oven – The Smallest Box Here

Smallest footprintGourmia Toaster Oven - 4-Slice Capacity

Gourmia’s 4-slice oven (GTF1188SSA) has the smallest listed footprint in this guide. The listing gives the approximate exterior as 15 inches wide, 10.5 inches deep and 8.5 inches tall, with an interior of about 10.5 x 8.5 x 6.5 inches. Gourmia aims it at small kitchens, dorms, RVs and apartments, and says it toasts four slices and bakes an 8-inch pizza.

Despite the size, it has a digital display with 12 one-touch presets and manual time and temperature from 90°F to 450°F. The low end is useful for dehydrating, and the listing includes Preheat and Add Food prompts. It runs at 1,000 watts, the lowest power here, which matters if your kitchen shares a circuit with a coffee maker or a microwave.

It comes with an air fry basket, baking pan, oven rack, crumb tray and recipe book, and Gourmia says the basket and rack are top-rack dishwasher safe. The listing does not state a warranty.

Why we like it

  • About 15 x 10.5 x 8.5 inches outside (listing).
  • 12 presets plus manual 90°F to 450°F (listing).
  • Basket and rack are top-rack dishwasher safe (listing).

It suits the tightest kitchens, a studio, a dorm or an RV, where every inch counts and the oven cooks for one or two.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Smallest listed footprint
  • Digital presets and dehydrate range
  • Dishwasher-safe basket and rack

Cons

  • Lowest power in this guide

6. BLACK+DECKER Crisp ‘N Bake Pro 4-Slice – More Room, Same Footprint

Low and roomyBLACK+DECKER Crisp 'N Bake Pro 4-Slice Digital Air Fry Oven

BLACK+DECKER’s Crisp ‘N Bake Pro 4-slice (TO4225) is a low, simple oven. BLACK+DECKER says its Max Space design gives 20% more air frying capacity than the previous model while keeping the same countertop footprint, and that it fits most 9-inch round pans, four slices of toast or a 10-inch pizza. A 9-inch round pan matters: it is the size for a small flan or a pan of migas.

Outside, listings disagree. Canadian Tire lists the matching TO4225 model at about 12.35 inches wide, 14.9 inches deep and 8.7 inches tall, while Walmart.ca lists a gray 4-slice Crisp ‘N Bake at 15.5 x 14.2 x 8.2 inches. Either way it is one of the lowest ovens here, at under 9 inches. Retailers list it at 1,150 watts.

It has five functions, Air Fry, Bake, Broil, Toast and Warm, set with knobs, and comes with a ceramic-coated baking pan that BLACK+DECKER calls PFAS-free, an air fry basket, a wire rack and a removable crumb tray. The listing does not state a warranty.

Why we like it

  • Fits most 9-inch round pans and a 10-inch pizza (listing).
  • Under 9 inches tall in retailer listings.
  • Ceramic-coated pan the maker says is PFAS-free (listing).
  • Simple knob controls (listing).

7. Proctor Silex 4-Slice Air Fryer Toaster Oven – Small, Simple, Three Years of Cover

Budget pickProctor Silex 4 Slice Countertop Air Fryer Toaster Oven Combo

Proctor Silex is Hamilton Beach Brands’ value line, and the Simply-Crisp 31265 is its smallest air fryer toaster oven. Proctor Silex lists it at 11.5 inches deep, 15.3 inches wide and 8 inches tall, the lowest and one of the shallowest ovens here. It fits four slices of bread, a personal pizza or half a pound of fries, and has two rack positions.

There are four functions: air fry, bake, broil and toast, with temperatures from 200°F to 450°F, a 30-minute timer, a Stay On setting, a ready bell and auto shutoff. Proctor Silex notes that the air fry setting may need more time than a standalone air fryer, which is a fair warning: it is a toaster oven with a fan, not a basket fryer. For reheating a few tostadas or toasting tortillas it is enough.

It comes with a chrome-plated mesh rack, a nesting bake pan that sits below the basket to catch drips, and a drop-down crumb tray. Proctor Silex backs it with a three-year limited warranty. The maker page does not state wattage.

Why we like it

  • Only 8 inches tall and 11.5 inches deep (Proctor Silex).
  • Three-year limited warranty (Proctor Silex).
  • Bake pan nests under the basket to catch drips (listing).
  • Auto shutoff and ready bell (listing).

Key specifications

Model 31265
Exterior size 15.3 x 11.5 x 8 in (W x D x H, Proctor Silex)

Functions 4: air fry, bake, broil, toast
Controls 200–450°F, 30-minute timer, Stay On
Accessories Mesh rack, nesting bake pan, drop-down crumb tray
Warranty 3 years limited

Why we recommend it

It suits a cook who wants the smallest, simplest air fryer toaster oven from a long-standing maker, with a warranty that matches far pricier ovens.

Skip it if you plan to air fry often or in quantity: the maker itself says air frying can take longer than in a standalone air fryer.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Lowest and among the shallowest here
  • Three-year warranty
  • Simple to use

Cons

  • Slower air frying, per the maker
  • Small capacity

How to fit an air fryer toaster oven into a small kitchen

Small-space shopping is mostly a tape measure exercise. These are the points that matter, in the order we would check them.

Measure depth first, then height

Most counters are about 24 to 25 inches deep, but the usable strip in front of a backsplash, outlet and canisters is often much less. In this guide the depth runs from 10.5 inches (Gourmia) to 16.9 inches (Breville). Then measure from the counter to the underside of the wall cabinets. A 10-inch oven like the Breville or an 8-inch oven like the Proctor Silex leaves room above for heat to escape.

Leave room around the oven

Toaster ovens get hot on the outside, and air fry settings push hot air out through vents. Check the use and care guide for the clearances your model needs on the sides, back and top before you settle on a spot, and do not run one tucked under a cabinet if the manual says otherwise.

A tape measure on a kitchen island.

Decide whether it lives out or gets put away

If the oven stays on the counter, footprint is everything. If it must clear away, the Ninja Flip’s stand-up storage solves the problem in a way no box oven can, as long as you have a stretch of backsplash about 20 inches wide.

Check the power draw

Older apartment kitchens often run the coffee maker, microwave and toaster oven on one circuit. An 1,800-watt oven, like the Breville, Ninja and Cuisinart, draws close to the full capacity of a typical 15-amp circuit by itself. The 1,000-watt Gourmia and 1,150-watt BLACK+DECKER are gentler; check your own kitchen’s wiring before running two appliances at once.

Match capacity to what you actually cook

A 4-slice oven reheats two or three tacos dorados, a couple of enchiladas or a small tray of nachos at a time. If you cook for four regularly, the Ninja’s 13-inch pan or the Breville’s 11-inch pizza capacity is worth the extra space. For more on getting fried and griddled food back to crisp, see our guide on how to reheat Mexican leftovers.

How we chose these seven compact ovens

We did not use these ovens in our kitchen. We started from what a restaurant kitchen looks for in any small oven, even heat, a size that suits the job and parts that come apart for cleaning, then narrowed the field to air fryer toaster ovens that also toast and that list an outside size small enough for a crowded counter.

Every figure comes from the maker’s product page, the Amazon listing or a named retailer, and each source is recorded in our research notes. Where makers did not publish exterior dimensions, we used retailer listings and said so; where those listings disagree, as with the BLACK+DECKER, we show the range. Each oven was in stock on Amazon when we checked, and we left out models already recommended in our other toaster oven and air fryer guides, so this list adds new choices rather than repeating them. We also searched the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall database for these brands’ toaster ovens and air fryers and found no recall listed for these models.

Compact air fryer oven questions, answered

What is the best toaster oven air fryer for small spaces?

For most small kitchens, the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Compact, because it is only 10 inches tall and has a dedicated reheat mode for fried food. If you need the counter clear when you are not cooking, the Ninja Flip stores upright. For the smallest box, look at the Gourmia 4-Slice.

Is a compact air fryer toaster oven as good as a basket air fryer?

Not quite for frying, but close enough for reheating and most small batches. Basket air fryers move air through a smaller space. Proctor Silex says its oven may need more air fry time than a standalone air fryer. If air frying is your main use, compare with our best air fryer guide.

How much space should I leave around a toaster oven?

It varies by model, so follow the clearances in your oven’s manual. In general, do not push a toaster oven against a wall or under a cabinet tighter than the manual allows, and keep paper towels, curtains and plastic containers away from the vents and top.

Can a 4-slice oven cook a 9 x 13 pan?

No. The 4-slice ovens here take 8- to 10-inch pizzas and, in the BLACK+DECKER’s case, most 9-inch round pans. For a 9 x 13 casserole you need a larger oven; our best toaster oven guide covers bigger models.

Do I need an air fry setting at all?

If you only toast and reheat, a plain small toaster oven is simpler; our best small toaster oven guide covers those. The air fry fan earns its place when you crisp chips, taquitos, flautas or frozen food often.

The small oven we’d make room for

If we had one stretch of counter and one oven to put on it, it would be the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Compact: low enough for under-cabinet use, a real reheat mode for fried food and room for an 11-inch pizza. If the counter has to be clear between meals, the Ninja Flip is the clever answer, and for the tightest corner the Gourmia and Proctor Silex take the least space.
