Café de olla on the commute, iced jamaica on a hot Houston afternoon: a good tumbler gets used every day, which is why people are willing to pay for one. If you have already settled on YETI, the choice left is size and lid, and those two things change how a Rambler behaves far more than the color does.
This page sorts eight Rambler models for that buyer. It also says what independent testers found, because the results are not all flattering. Ramblers are tough and well made, but they are not the best at holding heat and most of them are not built to be leakproof.

Quick verdict: which YETI tumbler to buy
For most people the best YETI tumbler is the Rambler 20 oz with MagSlider Lid: it fits standard cup holders, takes hot or cold drinks, and it is the size Consumer Reports put through its tests. For a smaller cup that stacks in a cabinet, get the 16 oz Stackable. For big cold drinks, get the 35 oz Straw Mug 2.0. Skip the Rambler altogether if heat retention or a sealed lid is your priority: Consumer Reports measured only 4½ hours hot, and YETI itself says the MagSlider lid is not leakproof.

Our picks for the best YETI tumbler, by size and lid
Eight different sizes and lid styles, with colors ignored. Only the 20 oz Rambler and the Straw Mug line have a named review we read; the rest rest on YETI’s listing, and each pick says which it is.
1. YETI Rambler 20 oz Tumbler with MagSlider Lid – The Size Everyone Starts With

This is the default Rambler for good reason. It stands 6 7/8 inches high with a 3 1/2 inch lip, YETI sizes it for standard cup holders, and it handles coffee in the morning and ice water by afternoon.
Consumer Reports tested the 20-ounce Rambler in 2021 and found it held liquid hot for 4½ hours. Its test engineer said that might be plenty for most users but that it was far from the best; eight other mugs did better, including a Zojirushi at 13½ hours. It called the lid leak-resistant rather than leakproof, which matches YETI’s own note.
The same cup appears in our tumbler guide in another color. We kept it here because it is the Rambler with an actual test result behind it, so a Rambler guide should start from it.
Why we like it
- The Rambler Consumer Reports actually tested
- Sized for standard cup holders, per YETI
- Dishwasher safe, including the lid
Key specifications
| Model | Rambler 20 oz, part 21070060029 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 20 oz |
| Lid | MagSlider |
| Handle | None |
| Height | 6 7/8 in |
| Drinks (per YETI) | Hot or cold |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes |
| Leak note (per YETI) | Not leakproof; will not prevent spills |
Why we recommend it
It suits a commuter who drinks one thing at a time and wants one cup for coffee and cold drinks, without carrying anything oversized.
Skip it if you need hot coffee to stay hot past mid-morning. Consumer Reports found other mugs doing far better on heat, including a Zojirushi.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Tough stainless body with a Duracoat finish on colored cups
- Fits most cup holders
- Comfortable everyday size
Cons
- 4½ hours hot in Consumer Reports’ test, far from the best
- Lid is not leakproof
- Taste of Home listed a Rambler among coffee tumblers to skip, citing a leaky lid
2. YETI Rambler 16 oz Stackable Tumbler – Small, and It Stacks

Take the lids off and these nest together, which is the whole reason to choose this over the classic shape if you own more than one. It holds a pint, YETI lists it as cup holder compatible, and both parts go in the dishwasher.
Sixteen ounces is a sensible size for iced tea at the table or a large coffee. It is also what a lot of people pour anyway, so you carry less metal and less weight around.
We read no independent test of this model, so this pick rests on the listing. It uses the same MagSlider lid as the 20 oz, and YETI gives it the same warning that the lid is not leakproof.
Why we like it
- Nests with the lids off to save cabinet space
- Fits cup holders, per YETI
- Same MagSlider lid as the larger cups
Key specifications
| Model | Rambler 16 oz Stackable, part 21071502847 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 16 oz |
| Lid | MagSlider |
| Handle | None |
| Height | Not stated |
| Drinks (per YETI) | Hot or cold |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes |
| Leak note (per YETI) | Not leakproof; will not prevent spills |
Why we recommend it
It suits a household with several drinkers and limited cabinet room, or anyone who finds a 20 oz cup too big.
Skip it if you need a lid to survive a bag. YETI’s MagSlider is not built for that.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Stacks
- Compact
- Easy to wash
Cons
- Lid not leakproof
- No independent test we read
- Less drink before a refill

3. YETI Rambler 30 oz Tumbler with MagSlider Lid – More Drink, Same Lid

The same shape as the 20 oz with half again as much inside. The listing gives 7.8 inches tall with a 3 1/2 inch lip, says it fits standard car cup holders, and warns you to check clearance if you brew straight into it.
No handle means you hold a large, heavy cup by the body, which is fine on a desk and less fine on a walk. For that use, the handled mugs further down make more sense.
We read no test of this size. The listing itself says the lid is splash-resistant only, and that it will not prevent spills if tipped.
Why we like it
- Cuts down on refills
- Fits standard car cup holders, per the listing
- Dishwasher safe, body and lid
Key specifications
| Model | Rambler 30 oz, part F200098 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 30 oz |
| Lid | MagSlider |
| Handle | None |
| Height | 7.8 in |
| Drinks (per YETI) | Hot or cold |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes |
| Leak note (per YETI) | Not leakproof; will not prevent spills |
Why we recommend it
It suits a desk or a truck cab, for someone who likes one big cup of iced tea or water and rarely carries it far.
Skip it if your coffee brewer has little headroom, or you walk with your cup. It is tall, and it has no handle.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Large capacity
- Same simple lid
- Fits a cup holder
Cons
- No handle
- Tall for some brewers
- Not leakproof
4. YETI Rambler 20 oz Stackable Tumbler – The Everyday Size That Nests

This gives you the everyday capacity of the classic 20 oz in the shape that stacks when the lids are off. If you are buying a few for the household and want them to live together in a cabinet, this is the one.
YETI lists it as cup holder compatible and dishwasher safe. It carries the same warning as every MagSlider lid: it adds a barrier, but it is not leakproof and will not prevent spills.
We read no independent test of this model. The Consumer Reports result above was for the classic 20 oz, not this shape, so don’t assume the same figure applies.
Why we like it
- Stacks when the lids come off
- Same capacity as the classic 20 oz
- Goes in the dishwasher
Key specifications
| Model | Rambler 20 oz Stackable, part 21071507652 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 20 oz |
| Lid | MagSlider |
| Handle | None |
| Height | Not stated |
| Drinks (per YETI) | Hot or cold |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes |
| Leak note (per YETI) | Not leakproof; will not prevent spills |
Why we recommend it
It suits households buying two or more cups, where the stacking pays off every day.
Skip it if you will only own one. The classic 20 oz has the test result behind it.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Stacks for storage
- Useful everyday size
- Cup holder compatible
Cons
- Lid not leakproof
- No independent test we read
- Stacking only helps if you own several
5. YETI Rambler 20 oz Tumbler with Straw Lid – A Cold Cup That Flips Shut

This line is the answer to the MagSlider’s main weakness. The flip straw locks shut, the lid rotates for right or left hands, and a welded handle gives you something to carry. The listing calls the flip lid leakproof, so this is the Rambler to look at if your cup rides in a bag.
Read the note before you buy, though: the listing says not to use it with hot, carbonated or pulp drinks, and not to store food or perishables in it. So no café de olla and no agua fresca with fruit pulp.
We read no independent test of this lid, so treat the leakproof claim as YETI’s and not ours.
Why we like it
- Flip straw locks shut, per the listing
- Rotating lid suits either hand
- Welded handle
Key specifications
| Model | Rambler 20 oz Straw Lid, part 21071506225 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 20 oz |
| Lid | Flip straw |
| Handle | Welded |
| Height | Not stated |
| Drinks (per YETI) | Cold only; no carbonated or pulp drinks |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes |
| Leak note (per YETI) | Listing calls the flip lid leakproof |
Why we recommend it
It suits someone who drinks water or iced tea at the gym or on errands and wants a smaller cup that travels sealed.
Skip it if you drink hot coffee, soda or juice with pulp. The listing rules those out.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Handle on a small cup
- Listed as leakproof when closed
- Dishwasher safe
Cons
- Cold drinks only
- Claim not independently confirmed that we read
- Straw parts need cleaning

6. YETI Rambler 30 oz Tumbler with Straw Lid – A Bigger Sealed Cold Cup

Same flip straw, same welded handle, more water. The listing says the base fits most standard car cup holders, which is the feature to confirm with big cups.
It carries the same limits as the 20 oz straw model: cold drinks only, with no carbonated or pulp drinks and no food storage. Thirty ounces is a good size if you want fewer refills but find the giant cups awkward.
No independent test that we read covered this cup. America’s Test Kitchen’s poor result for the 42 oz Straw Mug was for a different lid and handle, so it doesn’t transfer directly, but it is a reason to test the handle in your own hand and return it if it doesn’t suit you.
Why we like it
- Flip straw locks shut, per the listing
- Fewer refills than the 20 oz
- Fits most car cup holders, per the listing
Key specifications
| Model | Rambler 30 oz Straw Lid, part 21071506235 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 30 oz |
| Lid | Flip straw |
| Handle | Welded |
| Height | Not stated |
| Drinks (per YETI) | Cold only; no carbonated or pulp drinks |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes |
| Leak note (per YETI) | Listing calls the flip lid leakproof |
Why we recommend it
It suits someone who wants a day’s water in fewer trips, without the weight of a 40 oz cup.
Skip it if you carry your cup in one hand for long stretches. YETI’s handled cups have drawn complaints about comfort, as noted below.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Good balance of size and weight
- Lid rotates for either hand
- Dishwasher safe
Cons
- Cold drinks only
- No independent test we read
- Heavier than the 20 oz, naturally
7. YETI Rambler 40 oz Tumbler with Straw Lid – The Big One With a Flip Lid

This is YETI’s direct answer to the giant straw cups, and it differs from the older 42 oz model in one important way: the straw flips shut. The listing says the lid locks closed and calls it leakproof, with the rotating lid and welded handle of the smaller cups.
America’s Test Kitchen tested the older 42 oz Straw Mug and marked it Not Recommended, faulting its heavy build, its uncomfortable handle and an ungasketed straw lid that leaked a lot when knocked over. We left that model off this page. We read no test of this 40 oz, so we can’t say whether YETI fixed those problems.
If a huge cup is what you are after, compare this with the Stanley Quencher 40 oz that won the same review.
Why we like it
- Flip lid replaces the open straw of the older mug
- Rotating lid suits either hand
- Base fits most car cup holders, per the listing
Key specifications
| Model | Rambler 40 oz Straw Lid, part 21071507014 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 40 oz |
| Lid | Flip straw |
| Handle | Welded |
| Height | Not stated |
| Drinks (per YETI) | Cold only; no carbonated or pulp drinks |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes |
| Leak note (per YETI) | Listing calls the flip lid leakproof |
Why we recommend it
It suits someone who wants the biggest Rambler and specifically wants a lid that closes, and who is prepared to try the handle and return it if it feels wrong.
Skip it if you want the most proven big cup. America’s Test Kitchen’s winner was the Stanley Quencher 40 oz, not a YETI.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Large capacity
- Closable straw
- Welded handle
Cons
- Older sibling scored Not Recommended
- No independent test we read
- Heavy when full
8. YETI Rambler 35 oz Straw Mug 2.0 – A Wide Straw and a Big Handle

The listing gives 11.02 inches tall and 1.41 pounds, cold drinks only, with a wide reusable straw and a handle welded to the body. YETI’s own note is unusually candid: the lid is splash-resistant in normal travel but not fully sealed when inverted, so keep it upright.
CBS News compared an earlier 35 oz Rambler mug with the Stanley Quencher in 2024. The reviewer preferred the Stanley, largely for its bigger, softer handle, and noted that the YETI lid offered only a straw opening. We don’t know how much the 2.0 version changes that.
A version of this cup is in our cold-drink tumbler guide in another color. We kept it because it is the Rambler size that CBS put side by side against the most popular rival, so straw-mug shoppers will want it in the comparison.
Why we like it
- All parts go in the dishwasher, per the listing
- Wide opening for adding ice, per the listing
- Handle welded on, with no screws to loosen
Key specifications
| Model | Rambler 35 oz Straw Mug 2.0, part 21071508171 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 35 oz |
| Lid | Straw Lid 2.0 |
| Handle | Welded |
| Height | 11.02 in |
| Drinks (per YETI) | Cold only; not for hot drinks |
| Dishwasher safe | Yes |
| Leak note (per YETI) | Splash-resistant; not sealed when inverted |
Why we recommend it
It suits someone who keeps a big cup of water on the desk or in the car and doesn’t need to throw it in a bag.
Skip it if it travels on its side. YETI itself says to keep it upright, and the flip-lid models above are built for that job.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Big capacity in a cup holder base
- Easy to clean
- Wide straw
Cons
- Not sealed when tipped
- Cold drinks only
- CBS’s reviewer wanted a bigger, softer handle on the earlier version
Where the Rambler falls short, and who to look at instead
Heat. Consumer Reports found other mugs held heat far longer than the 20 oz Rambler, including a Zojirushi at 13½ hours against 4½. If you want hot coffee at lunchtime, Zojirushi is the one to look at.
Leaks. YETI says plainly that the MagSlider is not leakproof. In America’s Test Kitchen’s insulated tumbler review, the 42 oz Straw Mug leaked a large amount when knocked over, and Taste of Home put a Rambler in its coffee tumblers to skip, citing a leaky lid, a slippery body and a width too big for cup holders. That review’s reference to a 36-ounce model suggests it was not one of these exact cups, but the complaint is worth checking against your own car.
Big straw cups. America’s Test Kitchen’s winner was the Stanley Quencher H2.0 40 oz, and it rated the Owala 40oz Tumbler’s lid the most watertight straw lid it tried. See our tumbler guide for those. Taste of Home’s overall coffee tumbler pick was the Thermos Stainless King.
What you do get. YETI’s case is a heavy steel build and a Duracoat finish it says won’t crack, peel or fade. We read no test that measured that over years, so weigh it as the maker’s claim.

How to choose a Rambler for the way you drink
Hot or cold first. Check the listing. The classic MagSlider cups take both. The straw cups on this page are cold only, so a straw model is the wrong choice for coffee.
Lid next. MagSlider for a cup that stays upright. Flip straw if it will ride in a bag. Straw Lid 2.0 if you want a big, easy sip at a desk and can keep it upright.
Size. Twenty ounces suits most people. Go bigger only if refills really bother you, since a full 40 oz cup is heavy to carry around.
Cup holder. YETI lists several of these as cup holder compatible, but car cup holders differ. Measure yours against the base.

Color. Ignore it for the buying decision. The same cup comes in many colors, and none of them changes how it performs.
Care. Most Rambler lids and bodies are listed as dishwasher safe. Pull straws and gaskets apart when you can, since that is where old drinks hide.
The YETI recall that applies to travel mugs, not these cups
CPSC’s recall 21-020, from November 2020, covers the Rambler 20 oz Travel Mug with Stronghold Lid, with date code 34204010, because the magnet slider can eject and spill hot contents. That is a travel mug with a different lid, and it is not on this page. If you own one, check the bottom for that date code and contact YETI.
How we picked these eight YETI tumbler models
We read Consumer Reports’ Rambler review, America’s Test Kitchen’s insulated tumbler review, CBS News’s comparison with the Stanley Quencher and Taste of Home’s coffee tumbler roundup. We then matched them to the Ramblers on sale, checked stock and seller through Amazon’s data, and kept one listing per size and lid. We did not test these cups. Where no review we read covers a model, we say so, and we attribute every leak or temperature claim to whoever made it. We left out the 42 oz Straw Mug because America’s Test Kitchen marked it Not Recommended, and we left out the ceramic-lined Rambler cups because we did not review YETI’s statements on that lining for this page.
YETI tumbler questions, answered
Which YETI tumbler size is best?
For most people, 20 ounces. It fits most cup holders, takes hot or cold drinks and doesn’t get too heavy. Choose 16 oz if you like small cups, or 30 oz and up if refills bother you.
Is the YETI Rambler leakproof?
The MagSlider lid isn’t, as YETI says on the listing. The Flip Straw lids are listed as leakproof when closed, which is YETI’s claim. We read no independent test of that lid. The Straw Lid 2.0 is splash-resistant but not sealed when inverted.
How long does a Rambler keep coffee hot?
Consumer Reports measured 4½ hours for the 20 oz Rambler in 2021, and it noted that was far from the best in its tests.
Can I put hot drinks in a YETI straw tumbler?
No. The Straw Lid tumblers and the Straw Mug 2.0 on this page are listed for cold drinks only. The straw tumbler listings also rule out carbonated and pulp drinks.
YETI or Stanley?
For a big straw cup, independent testers leaned toward Stanley: America’s Test Kitchen named the Quencher 40 oz its winner, and CBS’s reviewer preferred it. YETI’s case is its build and its range of smaller classic cups.
