Fibrox, Swiss Classic or Wood? The Best Knife Set Victorinox Makes

Seven Victorinox knife sets sorted by line: Wood, Swiss Classic and Fibrox, with what is in each box, handles, care and how to buy a genuine set.

A kitchen knife and a round cutting board with fresh vegetables.

Victorinox is the company behind the Swiss Army Knife, and in many restaurant kitchens it is also the name on the black-handled chef’s knife hanging on the magnetic strip. That reputation makes it easy to buy a Victorinox set without thinking, but the brand sells several kitchen lines that feel quite different in the hand: Fibrox with its grippy non-slip handle, Swiss Classic for home kitchens, the wood-handled sets, the forged Grand Maître and the design-led Swiss Modern.

This guide stays inside that one maker. It sorts the Victorinox sets that were in stock and sold by Amazon itself when we checked, by line and by the kind of cook each one suits, using what Victorinox and the Amazon listings state. Where Victorinox does not publish a detail, we say so.

Quick verdict: which Victorinox set to buy

If you want the three knives that do almost everything, buy the Victorinox Rosewood 3-Piece Knife Set: an 8-inch chef’s knife, an 8-inch serrated bread knife and a paring knife with wood handles. If you want a block on the counter, the Victorinox Swiss Classic 7-Piece Block Set adds a honing steel and a waiter’s pocket knife. If you break down meat or fish, the Fibrox-handled Victorinox Field Dressing Kit rolls up in its own case. For Victorinox’s best-known Fibrox block, see our main best knife set guide, where it is already reviewed.

Below, five standout sets side by side, then all seven in full, a plain explanation of how the Victorinox lines differ, and how to make sure you are buying the real thing.

Our picks for the best knife set Victorinox makes

All seven sets below were in stock and sold by Amazon.com when we checked. They run from a wood-handled trio to a counter block, a roll-up meat kit and small sets that fill a gap. Victorinox’s two best-known Fibrox sets, the 8-piece block and the blockless 4-piece, are already reviewed in our best knife set guide, and the 14-piece Swiss Classic swivel block is covered in our best knife block set guide, so we do not repeat them here.

1. Victorinox Rosewood 3-Piece Knife Set – Three Core Knives with Wood Handles

Best overallVictorinox Rosewood 3-Piece Flat Knife Set

This is the set we would point most home cooks to first, because it holds only the knives that earn their keep. The listing names an 8-inch chef’s knife, an 8-inch serrated bread knife and a 3 1/4-inch spear point paring knife, and calls them the top three knives used in the home kitchen. In a Mexican kitchen that means the chef’s knife for onions, chiles, cilantro and meat for tacos, the paring knife for seeding jalapeños and coring tomatoes, and the bread knife for bolillos, telera rolls for tortas and ripe tomatoes.

The blades share their shapes with Victorinox’s working-kitchen knives; what changes is the handle. The Amazon listing calls the handles rosewood, while Victorinox’s own page for the same item number (5.2060.20R.3US3) names it the 3-Piece Wood Flat Set and lists modified maple. Either way the handles are wood, and Victorinox lists the set as not forged and made in Switzerland.

Wood changes the care. Victorinox’s knife-buying guide says wood-handled knives should never go in the dishwasher, because heat and chemicals dry them out and can crack them, and suggests hand-washing and an occasional rub of cooking oil. There is no block or sheath in the box, so plan on a magnetic strip, a drawer insert or edge guards.

Why we like it

  • Chef’s, bread and paring knives, nothing extra
  • Wood handles on Victorinox’s working-kitchen blade shapes
  • Made in Switzerland, per Victorinox
  • Lifetime guarantee against defects, per the listing

Handle Wood: rosewood per listing, modified maple per Victorinox
Construction (forged/stamped) Not forged, per Victorinox
Storage None included
Dishwasher safe No; Victorinox says hand-wash wood handles

Why we recommend it

It suits a cook who wants the essential three knives with a warmer look than black synthetic handles and who already has somewhere to store them.

Skip it if your knives go in the dishwasher; wood handles need hand-washing.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • No filler knives
  • Light, easy-to-sharpen blades
  • Swiss made

Cons

  • Hand-wash only
  • No block or edge guards

2. Victorinox Swiss Classic 7-Piece Block Set – A Small Block with a Pocket Knife

Best block setVictorinox Swiss Classic Knife Block - Kitchen Knife Set with Block for Home Essentials - Includes Chef's Knife

Swiss Classic is the line Victorinox says is chiefly intended for home kitchens. It uses the same European stainless steel and polished finish as Fibrox, with what Victorinox calls an ergonomic, lightweight handle in place of Fibrox’s textured non-slip grip, and a stated hardness range of 54 to 57.5 HRC.

This seven-piece block set (model 6.7600.7US1R) is named on Amazon as including a chef’s knife, a bread knife, a honing steel and a Swiss Army pocket knife, in a block. The Amazon listing does not itemize the remaining knives. A Canadian retailer lists the same model as an 8-inch chef’s knife, 8-inch bread knife, 3.25-inch paring knife, 4.5-inch utility knife, 10-inch honing steel, hardwood block and a waiter’s pocket knife; check the listing photos to confirm before you buy.

The pocket knife is a waiter’s model with a corkscrew and bottle opener, which is handy at a party table. The listing says the knives are dishwasher safe but that hand-washing is recommended. Warranty is a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.

Why we like it

  • Swiss Classic is Victorinox’s home-kitchen line
  • Honing steel included
  • Dishwasher safe, per the listing
  • Limited lifetime warranty

Key specifications

Pieces 7 (maker’s count)

Dishwasher safe Yes; hand-washing recommended
Warranty Limited lifetime

Why we recommend it

It suits a cook who wants Victorinox knives in a block but does not need the 14 pieces of the swivel block or the boning and slicing knives of the Fibrox block.

Skip it if you want every knife named before you buy; the Amazon listing leaves part of the contents to the photos.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Compact block
  • Steel for honing
  • Easy cleanup

Cons

  • Contents not fully listed
  • Pocket knife is an extra, not a kitchen tool

3. Victorinox Field Dressing Kit, 7 Pieces – Meat and Fish Knives in a Roll

Best for meat and fishVictorinox Knife Set - Swiss Army Field Dressing Kit

This is the Fibrox set for people who cut up whole animals, not just vegetables. The listing names a 3 1/4-inch paring knife, a Fibrox boning knife (5.6413.15), a Fibrox filleting knife (5.3763.20), a Fibrox slaughter knife (5.7203.20), a Fibrox cimeter steak knife (5.7303.25), a 10-inch sharpening steel and a black nylon roll to carry them. Victorinox pitches it for hunting, fishing trips and barbecue.

At home, that line-up works for big cooking projects. The boning knife trims a pork shoulder for carnitas or bones chicken thighs for tinga, the cimeter, a long curved butcher’s knife, portions a brisket or a beef clod for barbacoa, and the filleting knife handles a whole red snapper for pescado a la talla. The steel keeps all of them aligned. It is not a general kitchen set: there is no chef’s knife or bread knife.

Fibrox is the line Victorinox says is designed by professionals for professionals, with non-slip handles, and it is NSF-certified according to Victorinox. The listing calls the kit Swiss made and dishwasher safe, says the knives are hand-finished, and gives a lifetime guarantee against defects in material and workmanship. The roll is a practical answer to carrying knives to a cookout without a block.

Why we like it

  • Boning, filleting and butcher’s knives in one kit
  • Fibrox non-slip handles, NSF-certified per Victorinox
  • Sharpening steel and roll case included
  • Lifetime guarantee against defects

Key specifications

Pieces 7 (maker’s count)

Line Fibrox
Handle Fibrox, non-slip

Storage Nylon knife roll
Dishwasher safe Yes, per the listing
Warranty Lifetime, against defects

Why we recommend it

It suits barbecue cooks, hunters, anglers and anyone who buys meat in big cuts and wants the right knife for each job, in a case they can carry.

Skip it if you want an everyday kitchen set; it has no chef’s or bread knife.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Specialist meat and fish knives
  • Grippy when wet
  • Portable roll

4. Victorinox Swiss Classic 2-Piece Santoku Starter Set – Two Knives for a Small Kitchen

Best two-knife starterVictorinox Swiss Classic 2-Piece Kitchen Starter Set

Two knives is a real kitchen if they are the right two. This Swiss Classic starter set pairs a 7-inch Granton edge santoku with a 3 1/4-inch serrated paring knife, according to the listing. The santoku is a flat, wide all-purpose knife that chops and slices; the Granton edge has scallops ground into the side of the blade to help food fall away. The small serrated knife cuts tomato skins, limes and citrus cleanly, and handles small trimming jobs.

For a first apartment, a dorm-style kitchen or a second set at a cabin, that covers salsa, guacamole, fajita vegetables and most taco prep. What it does not cover is crusty bread; add a bread knife later if you make tortas often.

The listing calls the set Swiss made and dishwasher safe, with ergonomic handles, and says all Victorinox cutlery carries a lifetime warranty against manufacturer’s defects. Swiss Classic handles are thermoplastic elastomer, according to Victorinox’s buying guide.

Why we like it

  • Santoku and serrated paring cover most prep
  • Granton edge on the santoku
  • Swiss made and dishwasher safe, per the listing
  • Lifetime warranty against defects

Key specifications

Pieces 2
What’s included 7″ Granton edge santoku, 3.25″ serrated paring
Line Swiss Classic
Handle Synthetic (TPE, per Victorinox’s buying guide)
Construction (forged/stamped) Not stated
Storage None included
Dishwasher safe Yes, per the listing
Warranty Lifetime, against defects

Why we recommend it

It suits a cook starting from nothing, or anyone who prefers a santoku’s shorter, flatter blade to a long chef’s knife.

Skip it if you slice a lot of bread or big roasts; neither knife is long enough.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Small and simple
  • Serrated paring for tomatoes and limes
  • Dishwasher safe

Cons

  • No bread knife
  • No storage

5. Victorinox Swiss Classic Tomato and Table Knife Set of 6 – Wavy Edges for the Table

Best for the tableVictorinox Swiss Classic Tomato and Table Knife Set Serrated Blade

Victorinox’s small tomato and table knife is one of its simplest products and one of the most useful. This set of six (model 6.7833.6) has wavy-edge stainless steel blades and polypropylene handles, according to the listing, which calls them durable, lightweight and moisture resistant. The blade length is not stated on this listing.

A wavy edge bites into tomato skin and lime rind without crushing, so these are the knives to put out at a taco bar for limes and tomatoes, or at the table for tortas, grilled chicken and fajitas. They are also cheap enough to hand to guests or pack for picnics without worrying about the good knives.

The listing says they are Swiss made and dishwasher safe, and Victorinox guarantees its knives against defects in material and workmanship for life, excluding normal wear and tear, misuse or abuse. Our best cheap steak knife set guide covers dedicated steak knives if that is what you need; this set is lighter and more general.

Why we like it

  • Six knives for the table or a taco bar
  • Wavy edges for tomato skins and limes
  • Polypropylene handles, dishwasher safe
  • Swiss made, per the listing

Key specifications

Pieces 6
What’s included Six wavy-edge tomato and table knives
Line Swiss Classic
Handle Polypropylene, per the listing
Construction (forged/stamped) Not stated
Storage None included
Dishwasher safe Yes, per the listing
Warranty Lifetime, against defects in material and workmanship

Why we recommend it

It suits a household that hosts, or anyone who wants a stack of small sharp knives for everyday cutting at the table.

Skip it if you want a prep knife; these are small table knives, not a kitchen set.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Six at once
  • Good on tomatoes and citrus
  • Dishwasher safe

Cons

  • Blade length not stated
  • Not a prep set

6. Victorinox Swiss Classic Kitchen Set, 5 Pieces – Blockless Swiss Classic Knives

Best blockless fiveVictorinox Swiss Classic Kitchen Set

If you want more than three knives but no block, this five-piece Swiss Classic set (model 6.7133.5G) is the middle step. The Amazon listing describes it as paring, carving and bread knives with black handles; Victorinox’s own product page describes a versatile range of knives with professional sharp stainless steel blades, with straight and wavy edges, but does not name each of the five.

Victorinox’s page lists the set as not forged, made in Switzerland and dishwasher safe, with a blade length of 8.3 inches for the longest knife and a total weight of 8.8 ounces. The feature notes mention peeling, dicing, precision cuts, slicing crusty bread and mincing. Victorinox’s page also lists its lifetime warranty, while the Amazon listing data says one year; keep your receipt either way.

Because the five knives are not itemized, check the listing photos before you buy, and expect lighter Swiss Classic knives rather than a heavy forged set. The listing points to Victorinox sharpeners sold separately.

Why we like it

  • Five knives with no block to find room for
  • Straight and wavy edges
  • Made in Switzerland and dishwasher safe, per Victorinox
  • Light at 8.8 ounces for the set, per Victorinox

Key specifications

Dishwasher safe Yes, per Victorinox
Warranty Lifetime per Victorinox; 1 year per listing data

Why we recommend it

It suits a cook with a magnetic strip or knife drawer who wants a matching Swiss Classic set larger than a starter pair.

Skip it if you want to know exactly which five knives you are getting from the listing text alone.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • No block needed
  • Swiss made
  • Dishwasher safe

Cons

  • Contents not itemized
  • Warranty described two ways

7. Victorinox Swiss Classic 2-Piece Paring Knife Set – A Straight and a Wavy Parer

Best paring pairVictorinox Swiss Classic 2-Piece Paring Knife Set

Paring knives are the most-used small knives in a busy kitchen, and the ones that tend to go missing. This Swiss Classic pair (model 6.7113.2) gives you one straight-edge and one wavy-edge paring knife with 4-inch blades, per the listing title, for peeling, trimming, slicing and coring.

The straight edge is for seeding jalapeños, trimming garlic and hulling strawberries; the wavy edge is for tomatoes, limes and anything with a skin. Both make good partners for a single chef’s knife you already own, and they are a cheap way to add Victorinox knives to a mixed kit.

The listing gives polypropylene handles, stainless steel blades, a net weight of 48 grams for the pair and dishwasher-safe care, and calls them Swiss made. A warranty is not stated on this listing, though Victorinox’s general cutlery guarantee covers defects in material and workmanship.

Why we like it

  • Straight and wavy edge in one pair
  • Very light, 48 grams for both
  • Dishwasher safe, per the listing
  • Good add-on to any chef’s knife

Key specifications

How the Victorinox knife lines differ

Victorinox sells many sets, and the line name matters more than the piece count. Here is what Victorinox itself says about each.

Fibrox (Fibrox Pro). The professional line. Victorinox says Fibrox is designed by professionals for professionals, with non-slip handles, a hardness of 54 to 56 HRC, and NSF certification. Its Fibrox Pro chef’s knife page lists it as not forged and dishwasher safe. These are the black textured handles seen in many commercial kitchens. Our best knife set guide reviews the Fibrox 8-piece block and the 4-piece starter set.

Swiss Classic. The home-kitchen line. Victorinox describes it as chiefly intended for home kitchens, with the same European stainless steel and polished finish as Fibrox, a hardness of 54 to 57.5 HRC and an ergonomic, lightweight handle made of thermoplastic elastomer. Many Swiss Classic pieces come in bright colors as well as black. Victorinox lists Swiss Classic as dishwasher safe.

A cleaver and two knives on a dark table with herbs and garlic.

Wood and Rosewood. Wood handles on the same light, not-forged blade shapes. Victorinox’s current buying guide describes its Wood Collection with modified maple handles; older listings, including the set above, still say rosewood. Victorinox says wood handles must be washed by hand and oiled now and then.

Grand Maître. Victorinox’s forged line, with forged steel blades and, per Victorinox’s buying guide, modified maple handles on the wood versions. It is heavier and more like a German forged knife. Every Grand Maître set we found was either low in stock or sold only by third-party sellers when we checked, so none is reviewed here.

Swiss Modern. Victorinox’s design line, with walnut wood or colored polypropylene copolymer handles. The Swiss Modern block sets we found were sold only by third-party sellers, so we left them out.

How to choose a Victorinox knife set

Start with the handle. If your hands are often wet or greasy, Fibrox’s non-slip handle is the one Victorinox builds for professionals. Swiss Classic is smoother and lighter. Wood looks warmer but costs you the dishwasher.

Count the knives, not the pieces. Victorinox counts blocks, steels, rolls and pocket knives as pieces. The seven-piece block above includes a block, a steel and a pocket knife; the seven-piece Field Dressing Kit includes a steel and a roll. Read the list.

Decide on storage. A block keeps knives within reach. A roll is for carrying. Blockless sets need a magnetic strip, a drawer insert or edge guards, and loose knives in a drawer dull quickly.

Match the set to what you cook. Most home cooks need a chef’s knife, a paring knife and a bread or serrated knife. Add boning and slicing knives only if you regularly trim pork shoulders, brisket or whole chickens.

Light or heavy. Victorinox’s own buying guide explains the trade-off: stamped blades are lighter and easier to resharpen, while forged blades, like Grand Maître, have a bolster and stay sharp longer but are harder to sharpen. For long prep sessions many cooks prefer light.

Buy from a genuine seller. Victorinox’s cutlery FAQ says its kitchen knives are sold in Victorinox stores and by retailers, which you can find with its store finder, and its warranty covers defects in material and workmanship. On Amazon, every set on this page showed Amazon.com as the seller when we checked. Look at the “Sold by” line on the listing before you buy, and be wary of an unfamiliar seller or a set that does not match Victorinox’s own description.

How we picked these seven Victorinox sets

We searched Amazon’s product data for Victorinox kitchen sets across the Fibrox, Swiss Classic, Wood, Grand Maître and Swiss Modern lines, and kept only sets that were in stock (not low stock) and sold by Amazon.com when we checked. We took contents, handles, care and warranty from the Amazon listings and from Victorinox’s own product pages, its Swiss Classic versus Fibrox comparison and its knife-buying guide, and wrote “not stated” where neither says. Where a retailer filled a gap, we said so. We left out sets already reviewed on our main knife set pages, Grand Maître and Swiss Modern sets that were low in stock or sold only by third parties, and sets that were out of stock or not yet available to ship. We stopped at seven rather than pad the list. We also searched the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall database and found no recall of Victorinox kitchen knives. We did not use these knives for this guide.

Victorinox knife set questions, answered

What is the best kitchen knife set Victorinox sells?

For most home cooks, the three-knife Rosewood (Wood) set: chef’s, bread and paring knives with nothing extra. If you want dishwasher-safe knives in a block, the Fibrox 8-piece block in our best knife set guide or the Swiss Classic 7-piece block above.

What is the difference between Fibrox and Swiss Classic?

Victorinox says both use the same European stainless steel and finish. Fibrox has a non-slip handle, is built for professional kitchens and is NSF-certified; Swiss Classic has a lighter, ergonomic handle and is aimed at home kitchens.

Are Victorinox knives forged?

Most are not. Victorinox lists its Fibrox Pro chef’s knife, the Wood 3-piece set and the Swiss Classic 5-piece set above as not forged. The Grand Maître line is the forged one.

Can Victorinox knives go in the dishwasher?

Victorinox says synthetic-handled knives are dishwasher safe and wood-handled knives are not. Even so, its buying guide notes that knife experts do not really recommend dishwashers for knives, so hand-washing and drying right away is kinder to the edge.

Are Victorinox and Swiss Army knives the same company?

Yes. Victorinox makes the Swiss Army Knife, and the listings above describe its kitchen knives as Swiss made. One block set even includes a Swiss Army waiter’s pocket knife.

Our final pick from Victorinox

Buy the Rosewood 3-piece set if you want the three knives that do the work, and the Swiss Classic 7-piece block if you want them on the counter. Choose the Field Dressing Kit for meat, fish and barbecue, the Swiss Classic santoku pair for a small kitchen, and the six tomato knives for the table.
