Shopping for a Zwilling knife set is confusing for one simple reason: the company sells two brands of knives under almost the same name. ZWILLING, with the twin logo, is the premium line, whose knives the company says are made in Solingen, Germany. HENCKELS, sometimes still shown as J.A. Henckels International, is the company’s everyday line, which it describes in terms of quality and affordability. On Amazon, both often appear under “Zwilling J.A. Henckels”, and the price gap between them is large.
This guide sorts the sets from that one company by brand and by line, so you know which is which before you buy. Every set below was in stock and sold by Amazon itself when we checked. We take the details from Zwilling, Henckels and the Amazon listings, and say “not stated” where they are silent.

Quick verdict: which Zwilling set to buy
For a true ZWILLING-brand set made in Germany, buy the ZWILLING Twin Signature 7-Piece Knife Block Set: chef’s, paring, peeling and serrated utility knives, shears, a sharpening steel and a block. On a tighter budget, the HENCKELS-brand Henckels Forged Premio 3-Piece Starter Set gives you three knives with a forged bolster, and the Henckels Solution 3-Piece Set is the simplest stamped starter. Zwilling’s Four Star self-sharpening block and the ZWILLING Pro 14-piece block are already reviewed in our best knife set and best knife block set guides.
Below, five standout sets side by side, then all seven in full, a guide to which lines are ZWILLING and which are HENCKELS, and how to buy a genuine set.

Our picks for the best knife set Zwilling sells
The first two sets are ZWILLING-brand; the other five are HENCKELS-brand. That split reflects what Amazon itself had in stock when we checked: most ZWILLING Pro, Four Star and Professional S sets were either low in stock or sold only by third-party sellers, and we left those out rather than send you to a seller we cannot vouch for. Each review lists the brand clearly in the name.
1. ZWILLING Twin Signature 7-Piece Knife Block Set – German-Made Knives Without the Filler

Twin Signature is ZWILLING’s lighter, stamped line, and this seven-piece block (model 30707-000) is the most useful size of it. The listing names a 2.75-inch bird’s beak peeling knife, a 4-inch paring knife, a 5-inch serrated utility knife, an 8-inch chef’s knife, kitchen shears, a 9-inch sharpening steel and a 10-slot birch wood block.
The chef’s knife does the onions, chiles, cilantro and meat for tacos. The paring knife seeds jalapeños; the curved bird’s beak knife peels and shapes small fruit; the serrated utility knife slices tomatoes and limes. The empty slots leave room to add a bread knife later, which is the one thing this set lacks.
ZWILLING says the knives are manufactured in Germany from its special formula high-carbon NO STAIN steel, with a one-piece precision-stamped blade for a lighter knife, an ice-hardened FRIODUR blade and a hardness of 57 Rockwell. The polymer handle is bonded to a full tang with the traditional three rivets. The listing title calls the set dishwasher safe, and the warranty is a lifetime warranty against manufacturer’s defects. Our best steak knife block set guide reviews the 19-piece Twin Signature block with eight steak knives; this smaller set is the kitchen-only version.
Why we like it
- ZWILLING brand, manufactured in Germany
- FRIODUR ice-hardened blades, 57 Rockwell
- Sharpening steel and shears included
- Lifetime warranty against defects

Why we recommend it
It is the most direct way to get ZWILLING-brand, German-made knives from Amazon’s own stock, in a set without steak knives or duplicate utility knives.
Skip it if you want a bread knife in the box or the heavier feel of a forged knife.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Made in Germany
- Light, balanced stamped blades
- Room to grow in the block
Cons
- No bread knife
- Not forged
2. ZWILLING Gourmet 7-Piece Self-Sharpening Block Set – Ceramic Sharpeners in Every Slot

Gourmet is ZWILLING’s stamped everyday line, and this set (36133-000-0, listing model 1002451) puts it in an ash wood SharpBlock with ceramic sharpening compartments, so the knives are honed as you pull them out and put them back. It is sold on Amazon’s US site by Amazon’s German store, so the listing gives blade lengths in centimeters: a 10 cm (about 4-inch) larding and garnishing knife, a 13 cm (about 5-inch) utility knife, a 16 cm (about 6-inch) meat knife, a 20 cm (about 8-inch) chef’s knife, a 20 cm bread knife and 20 cm multi-purpose scissors.
That is a complete kitchen set: chef’s knife for prep, bread knife for bolillos, a slicing knife for roast meat, a small knife for trimming and scissors for herbs and dried chiles. The self-sharpening block suits cooks who never get around to a honing steel.
The listing says the knives are made in Germany, punched from special stainless steel, ice-hardened with FRIODUR, with a seamless transition from handle to blade, finger protection and a three-rivet handle. It recommends washing by hand and says the block is suited to smooth-edged ZWILLING Gourmet knives. A warranty is not stated on this listing. Zwilling’s Four Star self-sharpening block, a forged line, is the self-sharpening pick in our best knife set guide; this Gourmet set is the lighter, stamped alternative from the same brand.

3. Henckels Forged Premio 3-Piece Starter Set – Forged Bolsters for Less

This is a HENCKELS-brand set, not ZWILLING, and the clearest way to get a forged-style knife from the company on a small budget. The three-piece starter (model 16930-000) includes a 3-inch paring knife, a 5-inch serrated utility knife and a 7-inch hollow edge santoku, according to the listing.
The santoku is the all-purpose knife here: flat, wide and good for chopping onions, peppers and cilantro, with hollows ground into the blade to help slices fall away. The serrated utility knife handles tomatoes, limes and sandwiches, and the paring knife takes care of small trimming.
The listing says the blades are high-quality German stainless steel with a forged bolster for a seamless transition from blade to handle, a satin finish, a curved triple-rivet handle and a stainless steel end cap. It lists the set as dishwasher safe, with a lifetime warranty against manufacturer’s defects. The listing does not say where the knives are made.
Why we like it
- Forged bolster construction, per the listing
- Santoku, serrated utility and paring knives
- Dishwasher safe
- Lifetime warranty against defects
Key specifications
| Brand and line | HENCKELS Forged Premio |

Cons
- No chef’s or bread knife
- Country of origin not stated
4. Henckels Modernist 13-Piece Knife Block Set – Kitchen Knives and Steak Knives Together

Modernist is a HENCKELS line with a one-piece look and a bolster. This 13-piece block (model 17500-000) includes 3-inch and 4-inch paring knives, a 5-inch serrated utility knife, a 7-inch hollow edge santoku, an 8-inch chef’s knife, an 8-inch bread knife, four 4.5-inch steak knives, kitchen shears, a 9-inch sharpening steel and a black hardwood block, according to the listing.
That covers the whole kitchen, from tomato prep to bread for tortas, and puts four steak knives on the table for carne asada night. It is the set to buy if you are furnishing a new kitchen in one go and want everything to match.
The listing describes fully forged bolster construction, satin-finished blades and cleanup in the dishwasher or by hand, with stain- and rust-free blades. Neither the warranty nor the country of origin is stated in the listing data we saw.
Why we like it
- Chef’s, bread, santoku and utility knives
- Four steak knives included

Skip it if counter space is tight or you already own steak knives; the block is large.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Complete set
- Steak knives included
- Dishwasher safe
Cons
- Large block
- Steel grade and origin not stated
- Two paring knives
5. Henckels Solution 3-Piece Knife Set – Chef’s, Utility and Paring Knives

Solution is one of the simplest HENCKELS lines, and this three-piece set (model 17552-000) is the cheapest sensible way into the company’s knives. It includes a 4-inch paring knife, a 5-inch serrated utility knife and an 8-inch chef’s knife, according to the listing.
The 8-inch chef’s knife is the one to have for most taco prep, and the serrated utility knife handles tomatoes and limes. Add a bread knife later if you need one.
The listing describes single-piece, precision-stamped blades with a satin finish, a traditional triple-rivet handle curved for comfort, lightweight knives and cleanup in the dishwasher or by hand, with stain- and rust-free blades. It gives a lifetime warranty against manufacturer’s defects and calls the knives German engineered, without saying where they are made. Our best cheap steak knife set guide already reviews the Solution steak knives, set of eight; this is the kitchen set from the same line.
Why we like it
- Includes an 8-inch chef’s knife
- Light stamped blades
- Dishwasher safe, per the listing
- Lifetime warranty against defects

6. Henckels Dynamic 7-Piece Knife Block Set – Five Knives, Shears and a Block

Dynamic is another HENCKELS line, and this seven-piece set (model 17571-007) is a plain block set with no steak knives. Henckels lists a 4-inch paring knife, a 5-inch serrated utility knife, a 6-inch utility knife, an 8-inch chef’s knife, an 8-inch bread knife, kitchen shears and a 6-slot rubberwood block.
Two utility knives, one straight and one serrated, cover tomatoes and small jobs between the chef’s and paring knives. The bread knife takes care of bolillos and crusty loaves. There is no santoku in this set.
Henckels describes single-piece, precision-stamped blades in high-quality stainless steel and says the knives are dishwasher safe. It names no steel grade or country of origin. Henckels’ site lists a lifetime warranty; see the notes on buying a genuine set below.

7. Henckels Statement 12-Piece Knife Block Set – Six Steak Knives in a Smaller Block

Statement is a stamped HENCKELS line, and our best knife set guide already reviews its 15-piece block. This 12-piece block (model 35309-000) is the smaller version, for cooks who want the six steak knives but not the extra utility knife and shears. It includes a 3-inch paring knife, a 7-inch hollow edge santoku, an 8-inch bread knife, an 8-inch chef’s knife, six 4.5-inch steak knives, a 9-inch honing steel and a hardwood block, according to the listing.
Six steak knives is enough for most family dinners, from carne asada to grilled chicken, and the four kitchen knives cover prep. It has no serrated utility knife, so the bread knife doubles for tomatoes.
The listing describes single-piece, precision-stamped blades, lightweight knives, cleanup in the dishwasher or by hand, and a lifetime warranty against manufacturer’s defects. It calls the knives German engineered without stating where they are made.
Why we like it

ZWILLING or HENCKELS: which line is which
Zwilling J.A. Henckels is one company with two knife brands. Zwilling’s own magazine describes ZWILLING as delivering German-made engineering, with cutlery crafted in Solingen since 1731, and HENCKELS as a brand dating to 1895, rooted in German engineering and known for quality and affordability. HENCKELS now has its own website. Several independent reviewers note that the ZWILLING logo shows two figures (Zwilling means twin in German) and the HENCKELS logo shows one; that is the quickest way to tell the boxes apart.
ZWILLING lines. Pro, Four Star, Professional S, Twin Signature and Gourmet carry the ZWILLING name, and the ZWILLING listings we checked state that the knives are made in Germany. The Pro and Four Star listings describe SIGMAFORGE knives forged from a single piece of steel. Twin Signature and Gourmet are stamped, which makes them lighter and less expensive. KRAMER by ZWILLING is a separate collection sold under the ZWILLING name; none was in stock from Amazon itself when we checked.

HENCKELS lines. Statement, Solution, Dynamic, Modernist, Graphite and Forged Premio are HENCKELS-brand. Their listings describe them as German engineered and generally do not say where they are made, so check the box if that matters to you. Some, like Forged Premio and Modernist, have a forged bolster; others, like Statement and Solution, are stamped.
The short version. If you want German-made knives, look for the ZWILLING twin logo and a listing that says made in Germany. If you want the lowest cost and dishwasher-friendly knives, the HENCKELS lines are where to look.
How to choose a Zwilling knife set
Brand first. Decide whether you want ZWILLING or HENCKELS. The names look alike on Amazon, but they are different lines at different prices.
Forged or stamped. Forged knives (ZWILLING Pro and Four Star) are heavier with a bolster. Stamped knives (Twin Signature, Gourmet, Statement, Solution) are lighter. Both cut well; choose by the weight you like in your hand.
Count the knives. Zwilling counts the block, steel and shears as pieces. A 7-piece block may hold four or five knives.
Steak knives or not. Bigger blocks often include six or more steak knives. If you already own them, a smaller kitchen set is better value. Our best steak knife block set guide covers sets built around them.
Care. Many Zwilling and Henckels listings say dishwasher safe, while some, like the Gourmet set above, recommend hand-washing. Washing by hand and drying right away is kinder to any edge.
Buy from an authorized seller. Zwilling’s US warranty says its products are legitimately sold only by authorized sellers, and that it may reject warranty claims for products bought from unauthorized sellers, including unauthorized internet sites. Henckels’ warranty says the same about Henckels products. Both warranties cover defects in material and workmanship for the initial purchaser, not normal wear and tear or misuse. On Amazon, check the “Sold by” line; every set on this page showed Amazon as the seller when we checked. Keep your proof of purchase, because a warranty claim needs it.
How we chose these seven Zwilling sets
We searched Amazon’s product data for ZWILLING and HENCKELS sets across the Pro, Four Star, Professional S, Twin Signature, Gourmet, Kramer, Statement, Solution, Dynamic, Modernist, Graphite and Forged Premio lines. We kept only sets that were in stock (not low stock) and sold by Amazon when we checked, because Zwilling and Henckels both tie their warranties to authorized sellers. We left out sets already reviewed on our main knife set pages, and many ZWILLING Pro, Four Star, Professional S and Kramer sets that were low in stock, not yet available or sold only by third parties. Contents, construction, steel and care come from the Amazon listings; brand positioning and warranty terms come from Zwilling’s and Henckels’ own websites. Where a detail is not published, we say so. We stopped at seven rather than pad the list. We also searched the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall database and found no recall of Zwilling or Henckels kitchen knives. We did not use these knives for this guide.
Zwilling knife set questions, answered
What is the best kitchen knife set Zwilling sells?
For ZWILLING-brand knives from Amazon’s own stock, the Twin Signature 7-piece block: German-made, with chef’s, paring, peeling and utility knives, shears and a steel. For forged ZWILLING knives, see the Four Star self-sharpening block in our best knife set guide and the Pro 14-piece in our best knife block set guide.
Is Henckels the same as Zwilling?
Same company, different brands. ZWILLING is the premium brand with the twin logo; HENCKELS is the company’s everyday brand, which Zwilling describes in terms of quality and affordability.
Are Zwilling knives made in Germany?
The ZWILLING-brand sets above are listed as made in Germany. The HENCKELS-brand listings say German engineered but do not state where they are made.
Can Zwilling knives go in the dishwasher?
Many listings say yes, including Twin Signature and most HENCKELS sets, while the Gourmet SharpBlock listing recommends hand-washing. Hand-washing and drying straight away is gentler on any blade.
Is the Zwilling warranty valid if I buy on Amazon?
Zwilling’s and Henckels’ warranties apply to products from authorized sellers. Buying a set sold by Amazon, and keeping your receipt, is the safest route; if in doubt, ask Zwilling’s customer service before you buy.

Our final pick from Zwilling
Buy the ZWILLING Twin Signature 7-piece block for German-made knives without filler, or the Gourmet SharpBlock if you want the block to keep them sharp. On the HENCKELS side, choose Forged Premio for a forged-style starter, Solution for the lowest-cost three, Dynamic for a plain block with no steak knives, and Modernist or Statement if you want steak knives in the block.
