Wide, Tall or Glass? How to Pick the Best Latte Mugs

The best latte mugs for home, all with handles: two US-made Fiesta mugs, double-wall glass in three sizes, and insulated steel and titanium.

A regular coffee mug is fine for coffee, but a latte has foam and a lot of milk, and a tall narrow mug makes both harder. The right cup gives you the volume you need, a surface you can pour on and enough sense about what it’s made of.

We kept this to latte-sized mugs and glasses in glass and glazed ceramic. If you just want everyday coffee mugs, our coffee mug guide is the broader starting point.

Quick verdict: which latte mug to buy

For most kitchens, buy the Fiesta 16 oz Stackable Mug: wide, tough, made in the USA, from a maker that publishes a lead statement. For a smaller drink in double-wall glass, get the Bodum Bistro 10 oz. If you want a steel mug with a lid that keeps a latte warm, get the Stanley Everyday Camp Mug.

The others cover a mid-sized double-wall glass, a very large glass, a classic ceramic shape and a light titanium mug. Every pick here is a mug with a handle.

1. Fiesta 16 oz Stackable Mug – Wide, Sturdy, US-Made

Best overallFiesta® 16oz Stackable Mug – Durable Ceramic

A latte wants room: a double shot, plenty of steamed milk, and a wide enough top for foam. Fiesta’s stackable mug holds 16 ounces and measures 3-7/8 inches across and 3-7/8 inches high, so it’s about as wide as it’s tall. That is the shape we’d look for in a home latte mug, and few ceramic mugs with a clear lead story offer it.

On lead, The Fiesta Tableware Company publishes a statement that its products have been made since 1986 “without the use of raw materials that were purchased for their lead content.” It calls them “lead safe,” and defines that against a limit of 0.02 percent in raw materials. The listing says made in Newell, West Virginia, and microwave, dishwasher and oven safe (up to 350 degrees).

The downside is simply that it’s sold singly, and this listing is for the Peony color. Other colors are sold under other listings. Stacking is a real bonus in a small cabinet. Glazed ceramic also holds up in a way double-wall glass doesn’t if somebody knocks it into the sink.

Why we like it

  • 16 ounces at nearly equal width and height
  • Stacks for storage
  • Made in West Virginia
  • Maker’s published statement on lead

2. Bodum Bistro 10 oz Double Wall Mug, Set of 2 – A Compact Double Wall

Best small latteBodum 10oz Bistro Double Wall Insulated Mug

Ten ounces is a proper smaller latte: one or two shots with less milk, closer to what many coffee bars serve in their smallest size. Bodum’s Bistro mug is mouth-blown, heat-resistant borosilicate glass with a double wall, so the outside stays cooler and the inside stays warmer longer than a single layer of glass.

It’s sold as a set of two and listed as dishwasher safe. The listing here doesn’t mention microwave use, so don’t assume it. The company has a large line of glass drinkware, and the larger 15-ounce Bistro is on our coffee mug guide.

A note, since it’s in the news: Bodum recalled glass-carafe French presses in 2026 under CPSC recall 27-055. That recall is about press carafes, not these mugs, and this page lists no Bodum press. Double-wall glass is thin and can be fragile, so it’s a mug to keep off a hard sink edge.

Why we like it

  • Mouth-blown borosilicate glass
  • Double wall for heat
  • Set of two
  • Compact size for smaller lattes

Key specifications

Model 10604-10US4
Material Borosilicate glass
Capacity 10 oz

Dishwasher Yes

Why we recommend it

It’s the one to get if your usual drink is on the small side and you like seeing the coffee.

Skip it if you need a big mug; 10 ounces leaves little room for a two-shot latte with lots of milk.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Good size for smaller drinks
  • Keeps the outside cooler
  • Two in the set

Cons

  • Thin glass can chip
  • Microwave use not on this listing
  • Holds less than others here

3. JoyJolt Savor Double Wall Glass Mugs, 13.5 oz, Set of 2 – A Diner Mug in Double-Wall Glass

Best mid-size glass mugJoyJolt Savor Double Wall Insulated Glasses - Coffee Mugs (Set of 2) - 13.5-Ounces

JoyJolt’s Savor is a double-wall glass mug cut in the shape of a diner mug, with a proper loop handle on each one. It holds 13.5 ounces and the listing gives it as 4.5 inches tall and 4 inches wide, which is a good middle size for a double shot and steamed milk with room for foam.

The listing calls it mouth-blown borosilicate and says it is safe in the fridge, freezer, dishwasher, microwave and oven. Because it is plain glass with no glaze, the lead question that applies to glazed mugs doesn’t arise here. It comes as a set of two in a gift box with a 12-month guarantee, and Amazon was the seller when we checked.

JoyJolt is a younger brand that sells mostly online, so it has less of a track record than Bodum. The recall database lists one JoyJolt recall, for the single-wall Declan glass mug, model JG10242, which CPSC says could break when filled with hot liquid (recall 24-272). The Savor is a different, double-wall model, JG10251, and isn’t part of that recall, but it’s a reason to treat any thin glass mug gently.

Why we like it

  • A real handle on a double-wall glass
  • 13.5 ounces at about 4 inches wide
  • Microwave and dishwasher safe, per the listing
  • Amazon was the seller when we checked

Key specifications

Model JG10251
Material Borosilicate glass
Capacity 13.5 oz
Form Mug with handle
Wall Double
Microwave Yes
Dishwasher Yes
Sold by when checked Amazon.com

Why we recommend it

It suits someone who wants to see the layers of a latte but still wants a handle and a mug shape.

Skip it if you would rather buy from a long-established glassmaker; the Bodum above is the safer name.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Handle and double wall together
  • Good everyday latte size
  • Two in the set

Cons

  • Younger, online-first brand
  • Thin glass needs care
  • Wider than the Bodum to store

4. De’Longhi Double Wall Glass Mug, 16.9 oz, Set of 2 – The Biggest Glass Here

Best large glassDe'Longhi Double Wall Glass Mug

At 500 ml, or 16.9 ounces, this is for people who want a lot of milk in their coffee. De’Longhi is best known for home espresso machines, and it also sells glassware for them. These are hand-blown borosilicate double-wall glasses, and the maker says they’re comfortable to hold and condensation free.

Dishwasher safe, per the listing, in a set of two. It says nothing on microwaving. With a big double-wall glass like this, you get plenty of room for a double shot with enough steamed milk for two minutes of pouring. If you already have a home espresso machine this is a natural pairing.

The listing is brief, and the seller was a third party when we checked. It calls these “mugs” in the title and “glasses” in the text; the listing photo shows each with a handle, so check the pictures to be sure the shape is what you want. We’ve kept it on this list for size.

Why we like it

  • 16.9 ounces, the largest here
  • Hand-blown borosilicate, per the maker
  • Double wall
  • From a major espresso machine brand

5. Fiesta Tapered Mug, 15 oz – The Classic Fiesta Shape

Best classic ceramic mugFiesta Tapered Mug

If you like the idea of Fiesta but want a more traditional mug shape than the stackable, the tapered mug is the one. It holds 15 ounces, flares out toward the rim for a wide foam surface, and has a full loop handle.

The listing says made in the USA, vitrified ceramic, lead-free glaze, and dishwasher, microwave and oven safe, with a five-year chip-resistance warranty. The lead statement we rely on is the maker’s own, the same Fiesta Tableware Company statement described under the stackable mug above, not the seller’s line.

This listing is the Shamrock green, sold by a third party when we checked. The same tapered mug in Paprika is on our hot chocolate mug guide; we list a different color here because this one was in stock and it is the classic mug shape many latte drinkers want.

Why we like it

  • 15 ounces with a flared rim
  • Full loop handle
  • Made in the USA
  • Maker’s published statement on lead

Key specifications

Model 1475-324
Material Glazed vitrified ceramic

Why we recommend it

It suits a daily latte drinker who wants a tough ceramic mug with a classic look.

Skip it if you need mugs that stack; the Fiesta stackable is the space saver.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Wide, flared rim for foam
  • Made in the USA
  • Chip-resistance warranty on the listing

Cons

  • Sold singly
  • Third-party seller when we checked
  • Heavier than glass

6. Snow Peak Double Wall Titanium Mug, 450 ml – Light, Insulated, Folding Handles

Best lightweight insulated mugSnow Peak Double Wall Insulated Mug

Snow Peak’s double-wall mug is titanium rather than glass or ceramic, and it is vacuum insulated, so a latte stays warm while the outside stays comfortable. At 450 ml, about 15.2 ounces, it has room for a double shot and plenty of milk, and the maker says the handles collapse for storage.

The maker says it is made in Tsubame-Sanjo, Japan, and Snow Peak USA was the seller when we checked. Titanium has no glaze, so the lead question doesn’t apply, and it won’t shatter if it is knocked off the counter. It is a mug for both the kitchen and the campsite.

The trade-offs are plain: you can’t microwave metal, and you can’t see the drink. The listing doesn’t state dishwasher use, so hand washing is the safe choice.

Why we like it

  • Vacuum-insulated titanium
  • About 15 ounces
  • Collapsible handles
  • Sold by Snow Peak USA when we checked

Key specifications

Model MG-053R
Material Titanium
Capacity 450 ml (about 15.2 oz)

7. Stanley Everyday Camp Mug, 12 oz – A Steel Mug With a Lid

Best with a lidSTANLEY Everyday Camp Mug

Stanley’s Everyday Camp Mug is a squat 12-ounce stainless steel mug with a handle and a press-fit Tritan drink-through lid. Stanley says its double-wall vacuum insulation keeps drinks hot for up to 1.5 hours, which is long enough for a slow weekend latte.

The listing calls it 18/8 stainless steel and dishwasher safe, with a wide mouth that’s easy to clean. The lid also stops splashes if you carry the mug from the kitchen to a desk or the porch. Amazon was the seller when we checked, and Stanley backs it with its satisfaction guarantee.

Twelve ounces is on the smaller side for a latte with a lot of milk, and a lid hides the foam. The same 12-ounce mug in another color is on our camping coffee mug guide; we list this color here because it’s the steel mug with a handle that fits a home latte routine.

Why we like it

  • Handle plus a splash-proof lid
  • Vacuum insulated
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Amazon was the seller when we checked

Key specifications

Model 100000104736
Material 18/8 stainless steel

It suits someone who takes a latte to a desk or the porch and wants it to stay warm and not spill.

Skip it if you want room for a big milky latte or like to see latte art.

  • Lid stops splashes
  • Keeps drinks warm
  • Tough steel

Cons

  • Only 12 ounces
  • No microwave
  • Lid hides the foam

How to choose wide latte cups

Latte buying is mostly about volume and shape. If your espresso machine gives you a double shot, you need enough room for that and the milk, with space at the top for foam.

Capacity

Guides disagree on the right size, and we read none that tested it. A practical way to decide is to measure your usual drink: pour your milk jug and shot into a measuring cup, then add a little headroom. For most home lattes, 10 to 16 ounces covers it.

Wide or tall

Wide tops give you more foam surface, and that’s what most people mean by a latte cup. Tall glasses show layers but are harder to pour into. Fiesta’s stackable mug is nearly as wide as it is tall, and the JoyJolt Savor is close to that too.

Single or double wall

Double-wall glass keeps your hand cooler and, according to its makers, keeps the drink warmer for longer. It’s lighter and more delicate. Vacuum-insulated steel and titanium hold heat well and won’t break, but you can’t microwave them or see the drink. Single-wall ceramic is simpler and easier to live with.

Glazed mugs and lead

The FDA reports that some pottery labeled “lead free” has turned out to have extractable lead comparable to lead-glazed pieces, and a hot drink sits against a mug’s surface for a while. So we hold glazed mugs to a higher bar: a statement from the maker itself. Only Fiesta made this list on that basis, with two mug shapes. Fellow’s Monty ceramic cups, which are popular for latte art, didn’t, because our search for a Fellow statement on lead found none. The glass, steel and titanium mugs here have no glaze.

Handles

All seven picks are mugs with handles. The JoyJolt, Snow Peak and Stanley listings describe the handle in the text; for the Bodum, De’Longhi and both Fiesta mugs, the listing photo shows it. The De’Longhi text calls them glasses, so check the pictures before you order. We left handleless latte glasses, such as Fellow’s Pirch and Villeroy and Boch’s Artesano, off this page for that reason.

How we picked these seven latte mugs

We counted glass, ceramic and insulated metal mugs in stock from identifiable makers, kept only mugs with handles, and read each listing’s capacity, material and care details. We searched for independent reviews; the results were mostly affiliate lists, and the one comparison we tried to open, from Coffeeness, was blocked, so we don’t use it. These picks rest on the listings and on what makers publish. We have not used these products ourselves, and we state no prices or ratings.

We left out Libbey’s glass mugs because their own listings warn against hot liquids, and porcelain mugs with no maker statement on lead that we could read. Villeroy and Boch’s lead statement could not be opened when we tried, so we skipped its porcelain, and its Artesano glasses have no handle. We checked the saferproducts.gov recall database by brand: Bodum’s listed recalls concern French presses and toasters; Stanley’s listed drinkware recall covers its Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs, not the camp mug; JoyJolt’s covers its Declan single-wall mug, not the Savor; Snow Peak’s concern stoves, a fireplace insert and an axe; and nothing turned up for De’Longhi or for Fiesta drinkware.

Latte mug questions, answered

What size are the best latte mugs?

Most home lattes fit in 10 to 16 ounces. The Bodum Bistro is the small end, the Fiesta and De’Longhi the large end.

Can you put double-wall glass in the microwave?

It depends on the maker. The JoyJolt Savor listing says yes; the Bodum and De’Longhi listings don’t say. Check the listing or the box first, and never microwave the steel or titanium mugs.

Is a glass or ceramic mug better for a latte?

Ceramic is tougher, and light interiors can show latte art well. Glass shows the drink. Choose ceramic for daily knocks, glass if you like to look at it, and insulated steel if you sip slowly.

Do wide latte cups keep coffee hot?

A wide top loses heat faster, by simple physics, which is the trade-off for more foam surface. Double-wall glass, a vacuum-insulated mug like the Snow Peak or Stanley, or a preheated mug helps. Fill a ceramic mug with hot water for a minute before you pour.

Do I need a special mug for latte art?

No, but a wide top helps, and both Fiesta mugs have one. Any wide mug will work once your milk is right; our milk frother guide covers that side.

Our last word on latte mugs

Start with the Fiesta stackable mug if you like a sturdy, wide cup. Pick Bodum or JoyJolt for double-wall glass with a handle, or the Stanley if you want a lid. For everyday coffee mugs, see our best coffee mugs and glass coffee mugs guides. If you’d rather let someone else make the food, call to order from Julia’s.
