A handheld wand makes foam. It does not heat anything. If what you really want is a mug of hot milk with a cap of foam on top, poured in one step while the coffee brews, you want a jug that heats and froths at the same time: a countertop milk frother and steamer. In our kind of kitchen that also means café con leche, warm milk with canela, and a pot of hot chocolate for the kids.
The best milk frother steamer for you depends on how much milk you heat at once and how much control you want over the temperature. This guide covers eight jugs from Instant, Smeg, Maestri House, Capresso, Secura, Nespresso, De’Longhi and Cuisinart, with the capacities, settings and care each maker states. It sits under our broader best milk frother guide and avoids repeating its picks.

Quick verdict: which milk steamer to buy
For most kitchens, the pick is the Instant Pot MagicFroth 9-in-1: it heats up to 17 ounces, and you choose the temperature (cold, warm or hot) separately from the amount of foam, including a setting that heats milk with no foam at all. If you want a temperature in degrees, choose the Maestri House DualFro 600; for hot chocolate, the Capresso froth Select.
Below, five standouts side by side, then all eight reviewed in full.

Our picks for the best milk frother steamer
Every jug here heats milk and froths it, and every one can heat milk without much foam for drinks that should stay smooth. They differ in three ways that matter: how much milk they hold, whether you can choose a temperature, and what the inside of the jug is made of. Two jugs from our main frother list, the Breville Milk Café and the small Instant 4-in-1, are still good steamers; we have left them out here so this list adds new options, and the Aeroccino 4 appears because it is a newer model than the Aeroccino 3 recommended there.
1. Instant Pot MagicFroth 9-in-1 Milk Frother, 17 oz – Three Temperatures, Three Foams

This is the jug to buy if you want a steamer more than a foam machine. Instant gives the MagicFroth three temperature settings (cold, warm and hot) and three froth levels (stir, foam and extra foam), which multiply out to the nine settings in the name. The stir setting matters most here: it heats milk without building foam, which is what you want for a café con leche, a mug of warm milk with canela or a hot chocolate that should stay smooth.
Capacity is generous for a countertop jug. Instant says the pitcher heats up to 17 ounces or froths up to 8.5 ounces, enough for two drinks. That is a different machine from the small Instant 4-in-1 frother on our main milk frother list, which holds 10 ounces; we include this larger model because the extra heating volume and the separate temperature choice are what a steamer buyer is after.
Instant describes four buttons and a large display, a cool-touch handle, a pouring spout and auto-off, and says the pitcher, lid and whisk are dishwasher safe. It does not give the wattage or warranty in the listing, so check the box before you buy if those matter to you.
Why we like it
- Three temperatures and three froth levels, set separately
- Heats up to 17 oz, per Instant
- Stir setting heats without foaming
- Dishwasher-safe pitcher, lid and whisk
Key specifications
| Model | Instant MFM-2000 |
|---|---|
| Heating capacity | Up to 17 oz |
| Frothing capacity | Up to 8.5 oz |
| Settings | 9 (3 temperatures x 3 froth levels) |
| Heating method | Not stated |
| Jug interior | Not stated |
| Cleaning | Pitcher, lid and whisk dishwasher safe |
| Warranty | Not stated in listing |
Why we recommend it
It suits a household that wants two hot drinks at once and likes to choose between steamed milk and foam, without paying for an induction jug.
Skip it if you want a temperature in degrees; Instant gives cold, warm and hot, not numbers.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Separate temperature and foam choice
- Large heating volume
- Display and cool-touch handle
Cons
- Wattage not stated in listing
- Warranty not stated in listing
- Froths only half the heating volume
2. Smeg Retro 50’s Style Milk Frother – Induction Heat in a Steel Jug

Smeg builds this frother around induction heating: the base heats the removable stainless-steel jug directly, rather than warming a plate under it. Smeg’s listing says that heats milk quickly to the temperature you choose, with six preset programs for hot or cold milk and light or thick foam, picked with a backlit knob.
The jug holds up to 20 fluid ounces, according to the listing. Retailer spec sheets for the MFF11 list 600 ml (about 20 ounces) for heating and 250 ml (about 8.5 ounces) for frothing, and a 500-watt rating; Smeg’s own US listing does not repeat those split figures, so treat them as a guide. Two discs come in the box, one for heating and one for frothing.
The rest is practical detail: a Tritan lid with a built-in measuring cup, anti-slip feet and a cord wrap. The size is 7 by 6 by 10 inches, per the listing, so it takes a little more counter space than a slim jug. It comes in several colors; the pastel blue was the one in stock when we checked.
Why we like it
- Induction heating of a removable steel jug
- Six presets for hot or cold, light or thick foam
- Holds up to 20 fl oz
- Lid doubles as a measuring cup
Key specifications

| Cleaning | Removable jug; dishwasher use not stated |
| Warranty | Not stated in listing |
Why we recommend it
It suits a cook who wants the jug to come off the base and pour like a pitcher, and who will keep it out on the counter.
Skip it if counter space is tight; it is the bulkiest jug here.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Induction-heated steel jug
- Clear hot and cold presets
- Large capacity
Cons
- Bulky on the counter
- Split heat and froth figures come from retailers, not the listing
- Most colors were low in stock
3. Maestri House DualFro 600 Milk Frother and Steamer, 21 oz – Pick 120, 140 or 160°F

Most jugs give you hot or cold. Maestri House gives you numbers: the DualFro 600 lets you choose ordinary temperature, 120, 140 or 160°F, and three froth thicknesses, and the listing says it remembers your last choice. If you have ever scalded milk for a latte, or want it just warm for a child’s hot chocolate, a temperature you can name is useful.
It is also the largest jug in this guide. Maestri House gives 21 ounces (600 ml) for heating, 17 ounces for hot chocolate and 10.1 ounces for frothing. The touch panel offers six functions: cold froth, cold airy froth, hot froth, hot airy froth, hot milk and hot chocolate.
The jug is 304 stainless steel and dishwasher safe, according to the maker, and a sponge brush comes in the box. The listing does not state a warranty or wattage. Maestri House is a smaller brand than Instant or Smeg, but it sells under its own name with its own site, and this model was in stock when we checked.
Why we like it
- Four temperature choices, three in degrees
- Largest heating capacity here, 21 oz
- Six functions including hot chocolate
- Dishwasher-safe 304 steel jug
Key specifications
| Model | Maestri House MMF-9304S |

Why we recommend it
It suits anyone who wants to set a real temperature, or who heats milk for three or four mugs at a time.
Skip it if you prefer a long-established brand with a stated warranty; the listing gives none.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Temperature in degrees
- Biggest capacity here
- Memory for your last setting
Cons
- Warranty not stated
- Wattage not stated
- Many buttons to learn
4. Capresso froth Select Milk Frother and Hot Chocolate Maker, 20 oz – Melts Chocolate While It Heats

Capresso designed the froth Select with hot chocolate in mind. The listing says it melts chocolate chips or chunks while it heats and froths dairy or non-dairy milk. In a Mexican kitchen that brings to mind a tablet of Mexican chocolate; Capresso does not mention tablets, so chop the tablet into small pieces, as you would for the stove, and keep within the fill lines.
The capacity is the largest frothing volume here: 16 ounces of froth or 20 ounces of milk heated without froth, according to Capresso. Four illuminated settings cover cold froth, hot froth, hot milk and hot chocolate, all from one button.
The pitcher is stainless steel, removable and dishwasher safe, per the listing. Capresso does not list a wattage or warranty on Amazon. For proper chocolate recipes and the brands worth buying, see our guide to the best Mexican hot chocolate.
Why we like it
- Melts chocolate chips or chunks as it heats, per Capresso
- Froths up to 16 oz
- Heats up to 20 oz
- Removable, dishwasher-safe steel pitcher
Key specifications
| Model | Capresso 209.05 |

| Heating method | Not stated |

| Cleaning | Pitcher dishwasher safe |
| Warranty | Not stated in listing |
Why we recommend it
It suits a family that drinks more hot chocolate than lattes, or that wants froth for four cups at once.
Skip it if you want to choose a temperature; it has one hot setting for each drink.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Built for hot chocolate
- Largest froth volume here
- One-button operation
Cons
- No temperature choice
- Wattage and warranty not in listing
- Mexican chocolate tablets need chopping
5. Secura 8-in-1 IH Milk Frother, 20 oz Stainless Steel – Plain Steel Inside, No Coating

Most frothers line the jug with a nonstick coating so milk wipes out easily. This Secura goes the other way: the listing says the 20-ounce (600 ml) jug is 304 stainless steel with a Teflon-free interior and no nonstick coating to wear or peel. Some buyers prefer that for durability; the trade is that scorched milk needs a soak rather than a wipe.
The jug is heated by induction, which Secura says gives fast, even heat around the jug and helps reduce hot spots and scorching. An LED display shows the milk temperature as it rises. There are eight programs: cappuccino, latte, flat white, hot chocolate, hot milk, cold foam, plant milk and a 110°F mode for mixing protein shakes. The jug lifts off its base and goes in the dishwasher.
Secura sells several frothers with similar names, including 17-ounce steel jugs and a glass version; this one is the 8-in-1 IH model, MMF-9105A. The listing gives the jug size but not separate heating and frothing amounts.
Why we like it
- 304 stainless jug with no nonstick coating
- 20 oz (600 ml) jug
- Induction heating with a live temperature display
- Detachable, dishwasher-safe jug
Key specifications
| Model | Secura MMF-9105A |
|---|---|
| Heating capacity | 20 oz (600 ml) jug; separate heating and frothing amounts not stated |
| Frothing capacity | Not stated |
| Settings | 8: cappuccino, latte, flat white, hot chocolate, hot milk, cold foam, plant milk, protein (110°F) |
| Heating method | Induction (IH) |
| Jug interior | Uncoated 304 stainless steel |
| Cleaning | Jug dishwasher safe |
| Warranty | Not stated in listing |
Why we recommend it
It suits someone who wants a large, uncoated steel jug that can go straight in the dishwasher, with a program for plant milk as well as dairy.
Skip it if you want to set an exact temperature; the listing describes eight fixed programs and a display that shows the temperature, not a target you choose.
Pros and cons
Pros
- No coating to wear off
- Large jug
- Induction heating
Cons
- Milk can stick to bare steel
- No heating or frothing amounts given
- Several similar Secura models to sort through
6. Nespresso Aeroccino 4 Milk Frother – Four Milk Styles, Dishwasher Safe

Our main milk frother guide recommends the Aeroccino 3 for cold foam. The Aeroccino 4 is the newer jug, and the difference that matters for a steamer buyer is control: Nespresso says its circular whisk makes four preparations, hot or cold, airy or dense foam, or simply hot milk, chosen with buttons rather than by swapping whisks.
It is a small jug. Nespresso’s regional product pages give 120 ml (about 4 ounces) for foam and 240 ml (about 8 ounces) for hot milk, which covers one large latte or two small cappuccinos. Some of the same pages give a power draw of 380 to 505 watts.
The Amazon listing says the Aeroccino 4 is dishwasher safe, has a polished stainless exterior and nonstick interior, an energy-saving mode and a one-year limited warranty. It works on its own with any coffee, not only with Nespresso machines.
Why we like it
- Four preparations, hot or cold
- Dishwasher safe, per the listing
- Nonstick interior
- One-year limited warranty
Key specifications
| Model | Nespresso 4194-US-SI-NE |
|---|---|
| Heating capacity | 240 ml (about 8 oz), per Nespresso |
| Frothing capacity | 120 ml (about 4 oz), per Nespresso |
| Settings | 4: cold foam, airy hot foam, dense hot foam, hot milk |
| Heating method | Not stated |
| Jug interior | Nonstick |
| Cleaning | Dishwasher safe (listing) |
| Warranty | 1-year limited |
Why we recommend it
It suits a Nespresso household, or anyone making one milk drink at a time who wants the jug to go in the dishwasher.
Skip it if you heat milk for more than one or two mugs; the capacity is small.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Simple button choices
- Small footprint
- Stated warranty
Cons
- Small capacity
- No temperature choice
- Nonstick lining needs gentle cleaning
7. De’Longhi LatteMix Cold and Hot Milk Frother – A Spout Made for Latte Art

De’Longhi’s LatteMix is shaped like a barista’s pitcher: a pointed spout and an ergonomic handle, which De’Longhi says give you control over your pour and make latte art easier. Most jugs here pour from a short lip; this one is the closest to a steam pitcher.
The listing describes hot and cold froth at the touch of a button, with variable froth and temperature so you can match the setting to dairy or plant-based milk. De’Longhi does not give capacities on the Amazon listing, and retailer figures disagree, so we have not quoted one; expect a one or two cup jug rather than a family-size one.
The body is brushed stainless steel with a removable lid and a plastic gasket. The listing does not say whether the jug is dishwasher safe or state a warranty, so check De’Longhi’s manual for care before you put it near water.
Why we like it
- Pointed spout for a controlled pour
- Settings for dairy or plant-based milk
- Brushed stainless finish
- Hot and cold froth
Key specifications
| Model | De’Longhi EMF3M |
|---|---|
| Heating capacity | Not stated in listing |
| Frothing capacity | Not stated in listing |
| Settings | Hot and cold froth; variable froth and temperature |
| Heating method | Not stated |
| Jug interior | Not stated |
| Cleaning | Not stated in listing |
| Warranty | Not stated in listing |
Why we recommend it
It suits someone who wants to pour shapes on a latte and uses oat or almond milk as often as dairy.
Skip it if you want firm capacity and care details before buying; the listing leaves them out.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Best spout here for pouring
- Plant-milk settings
- Well-known maker
Cons
- Capacity not stated
- Cleaning not stated
- Newer model with little buyer history
8. Cuisinart Hot and Cold Foam Milk Frother – Small Jug, Three-Year Warranty

Cuisinart’s FR-16 is a compact frother that also heats milk on its own. Cuisinart says it makes up to 4 ounces of hot or cold froth, or heats up to 8 ounces of milk for warm drinks, at the touch of a button. That is about the same size as the Aeroccino 4.
The details are sensible for daily use: an Easy Grip handle and an integrated spout for pouring, and a Cool Touch exterior so you can hold it while the milk is hot. The tank is stainless steel with a nonstick lining; the lid is dishwasher safe and the outside wipes clean.
What sets it apart is the paperwork. Cuisinart gives a limited three-year warranty, the longest stated for any jug in this guide, and includes an instruction and recipe book.
Why we like it
- Heats up to 8 oz, froths up to 4 oz
- Cool Touch exterior
- Spout and grip handle for pouring
- Limited 3-year warranty
Key specifications

Skip it if you heat milk for the whole table; 8 ounces is the limit.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Longest stated warranty
- Cool exterior
- Compact
Cons
- Small capacity
- Only the lid is listed as dishwasher safe
- No temperature choice
How to choose a milk frother steamer
Heating capacity, not frothing capacity. Most makers give two numbers, and the frothing figure is always smaller because foam takes up room. If you mostly want hot milk, look at the heating figure: about 8 ounces (Aeroccino 4, Cuisinart) is one large mug, 17 to 21 ounces (Instant, Secura, Smeg, Maestri House, Capresso) is two to four.

Temperature control. Most jugs heat to one fixed temperature. The Maestri House lets you choose 120, 140 or 160°F, and the Instant gives cold, warm and hot. That matters if you heat milk for children, or if you find a jug’s single hot setting too hot or not hot enough for plant-based milk. The De’Longhi adjusts temperature too, but does not publish the figures on Amazon.
A setting with no foam. For café con leche, warm milk with canela or hot chocolate you often want heat without a head of foam. Instant calls it stir, Capresso and Secura list hot milk, and Nespresso and Cuisinart list heated milk. Check that the jug you choose has one.
Coated or bare steel. A nonstick lining (Nespresso, Cuisinart) wipes clean but needs gentle cleaning to keep the coating intact. Bare 304 stainless (Secura, Maestri House) can take a scrub but milk can stick if it scorches. Smeg and the Secura 8-in-1 heat their steel jugs by induction.
Cleaning. Milk left in a jug sours quickly, so wash it after every use. A jug that lifts off its base and goes in the dishwasher (Instant, Secura, Maestri House, Capresso, Aeroccino 4) is easiest. Never put a base with electrical parts in water.

How we chose these eight jugs
We looked for standalone electric jugs that heat milk as well as froth it, from makers that sell under their own name, and we checked that each was in stock on Amazon in the United States when we wrote this. Capacities, settings, materials, care and warranties come from each maker’s Amazon listing, with Nespresso’s own product pages and retailer spec sheets for the Aeroccino 4 and Smeg figures; we wrote “not stated” where a maker gives no detail. We searched the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall pages for these brands’ milk frothers and found no recall. We left out the picks on our main frother list, unbranded jugs sold under changing names, and the Philips Baristina frother, which was out of stock. We have not used these products ourselves.
Milk steamer questions, answered
What is the best milk frother and steamer?
For most kitchens, the Instant Pot MagicFroth 9-in-1: a large jug with separate temperature and foam settings. The Maestri House DualFro 600 is the choice if you want to set a temperature in degrees.
Is a milk frother the same as a milk steamer?
Not quite. A handheld frother whisks air into milk you have already heated. A countertop frother and steamer heats the milk and whisks it at the same time, and most can heat without foaming. An espresso machine’s steam wand uses steam instead; for those, see our guide to the best espresso machine for beginners.
Can these jugs heat plant-based milk?
Several makers say so. Capresso lists non-dairy milk, Nespresso says to use any variety of milk you prefer, and De’Longhi has settings meant for plant-based milk. How well a plant milk foams depends on the milk itself.
Can I make Mexican hot chocolate in a milk steamer?
Capresso says its froth Select melts chocolate chips or chunks as it heats. It does not mention tablets, so chop Mexican chocolate small and stay within the fill line. Other jugs have a hot chocolate setting for cocoa powder or syrup.
How do I clean a milk frother steamer?
Rinse the jug and whisk as soon as you finish, then wash them. Put only the parts the maker lists as dishwasher safe in the dishwasher, and keep the base dry.

The steamer we would put on the counter
Start with the Instant MagicFroth if you want one jug that heats enough milk for two and lets you choose the temperature and the foam. If you only need foam on a single cup, a wand costs less; see our best handheld milk frother guide, and for the full range of frothers, our main best milk frother guide. For mugs to pour into, see the best coffee mugs.
