A full-size whisk is awkward in a mug. Its head hits the rim, its handle tips the cup, and you end up stirring a spoonful of dressing with a tool built for a mixing bowl. A mini whisk, usually five to eight inches long, fits the small jobs: a lime vinaigrette in a jar, a single egg, a little cornstarch slurry, a mug of hot chocolate.
It is a cheap tool, so it is tempting to buy anything. The details still matter, because a short handle can be hard to hold and a chrome-plated wire does not behave like stainless steel. This guide sorts eight of them and says which ones an independent reviewer liked and which it did not.

Quick verdict: which mini whisk to buy
Buy the Kuhn Rikon 6-Inch Balloon Wire Whisk: stainless steel, a sealed handle, a stated lifetime warranty, and a Highly Recommended rating from America’s Test Kitchen. For nonstick pans or a quiet whisk in a ceramic mug, choose the silicone-coated Tovolo 6-Inch Silicone Mini Whisk. If you want two sizes, the Babish Tiny Whisk Set is the simplest stainless pair here.

Our picks for the best mini whisk
These eight include single whisks and small sets, stainless and chrome-plated wire, a coated model and two unusual shapes. OXO’s own mini whisk already appears on another of our guides, so we leave it out here.
1. Kuhn Rikon 6-Inch Balloon Wire Whisk – Reviewed Well, Built to Last

This is the mini whisk to buy if you only want one. It is heavy-duty stainless steel with a sealed, waterproof barrel handle, so water and egg cannot get inside it. A hanging loop keeps it close by, and the listing says it is dishwasher safe and carries a lifetime warranty.
America’s Test Kitchen rates the Kuhn Rikon Balloon Wire Whisk Highly Recommended in its mini whisk review. Its testers liked broad heads with plenty of wire loops and handles long and thick enough to hold comfortably, and they favored smooth, sealed handle bases because they are easy to clean. The review also slightly preferred handles without a loop, since a loop can dig into the palm, so that is the one small mark against the design.
At six inches it fits a mug, a jar with a wide mouth and a small bowl, and it is long enough that your knuckles stay out of the food.
Why we like it
- Highly Recommended by America’s Test Kitchen
- Sealed, waterproof handle
- Heavy-duty stainless steel
- Lifetime warranty, per the listing
Key specifications
| Model | 2300 |
|---|---|
| Style | Balloon |
| Material | Stainless steel |
| Length | 6 inches |
| Pieces | 1 |
| Safe on nonstick | No: bare metal |
| Care | Dishwasher safe |
| Warranty | Lifetime (listing) |
Why we recommend it
It has the best independent backing of any whisk we could buy new at the time of writing, plus a handle that is easy to keep clean. For eggs, dressings and small sauces, that is what matters.
Skip it if you only need a whisk for nonstick pans; bare steel wires are the wrong choice there.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Strong independent rating
- Sealed handle
- Dishwasher safe
- Lifetime warranty stated
Cons
- Bare wires are not for nonstick
- Hanging loop can press on the palm
- Too short for deep pots
2. Tovolo 6-Inch Silicone Mini Whisk – Coated Wires for Nonstick

A six-inch whisk with flexible silicone-coated wires on a stainless steel handle, in a cayenne red. The listing says the coating is gentle on nonstick surfaces, and it fits mugs, small bowls and narrow containers for marinades, a scrambled egg or a hot chocolate. It is dishwasher safe.
To be clear about the evidence: America’s Test Kitchen’s mini whisk winner is Tovolo’s stainless steel 6-inch whisk, not this silicone version, and we could not find that stainless model in stock. The review does not cover the coated one, so its praise does not transfer directly. What carries over is the size and maker. Coated wires are softer and less crisp in a thick mixture than steel.
Why we like it
- Silicone wires, gentle on nonstick per the listing
- Stainless steel handle
- Fits mugs and narrow containers
- Dishwasher safe
Key specifications
| Model | 1000520 |
|---|---|
| Style | Balloon, coated |
| Material | Silicone over wire; stainless handle |
| Length | 6 inches |
| Pieces | 1 |
| Safe on nonstick | Yes, per the listing |
| Care | Dishwasher safe |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
Choose it for a small nonstick saucepan, or to keep the noise and scrape down when whisking in a ceramic mug. It is the only fully coated single mini whisk on this list.
Skip it if you whisk thick mixtures; coated wires bend more than stainless ones.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Safe for coated pans
- Quiet in ceramic
- Dishwasher safe
Cons
- Not the model the review praised
- Softer wires
- Warranty not stated

3. Babish Tiny Whisk Set, 2 Pieces – Two Stainless Sizes

If you would rather have two sizes, this set gives you a smaller whisk for a mug or a jar and a larger one for a small bowl. Both are stainless steel and dishwasher safe. Babish warns against using them on nonstick and against leaving them in hot cookware, since they get very hot.
One thing to check: the title says 5 and 7 inches, while the listing’s feature line says 6.5 and 5.5 inches. Assume the smaller figures to be safe, and measure against your jars if the fit matters. We did not read a review of this set.
Why we like it
- Two whisks for different vessels
- Stainless steel
- Dishwasher safe
- Clear warnings about nonstick and heat
Key specifications
| Model | 131288.02R |
|---|---|
| Style | Balloon |
| Material | Stainless steel |
| Length | 5 and 7 inches in title; 5.5 and 6.5 in features |
| Pieces | 2 |
| Safe on nonstick | No, per the listing |
| Care | Dishwasher safe |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
Worth buying if you do small whisking at both the mug and bowl scale. A set makes sense here, because the two sizes cover different jobs.
Skip it if you want a single tool with strong outside backing; the Kuhn Rikon is the one for that.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Two useful sizes
- Stainless, not plated
- Dishwasher safe
Cons
- Listing sizes do not agree
- No named review we could read
- Warranty not stated
4. Mrs. Anderson’s Baking 6-Inch Mini Whisk – Simple, With a Reviewer Caveat

A straightforward six-inch whisk in 18/8 stainless steel, sold for hot chocolate, protein powders, sauces, dressings and a beaten egg in a cup or small bowl. It hangs for storage and is dishwasher safe.
America’s Test Kitchen lists the Mrs. Anderson’s Baking Mini Whisk as Recommended with Reservations, below the Kuhn Rikon. So this is a plain choice rather than the first one to reach for. It does the same small jobs in solid 18/8 steel, with no plating to chip.
Why we like it
- 18/8 stainless steel
- Six-inch size for cups and small bowls
- Hangs for storage
- Dishwasher safe
Key specifications
| Model | 43623 |
|---|---|
| Style | Balloon |
| Material | 18/8 stainless steel |
| Length | 6 inches |
| Pieces | 1 |
| Safe on nonstick | No: bare metal |
| Care | Dishwasher safe |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits someone who wants a plain stainless whisk for short jobs. The reviewer’s lower rating is the reason it sits below our top three.
Skip it if you can get the Kuhn Rikon instead; the reviewer rated that one higher.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Solid 18/8 steel
- Dishwasher safe
- Hangs up
Cons
- Rated below other models by a reviewer
- Warranty not stated
- Sold by a third-party seller at last check

5. Ludwig Small Scandinavian-Type Whipper – Made in the USA, Unusual Shape

Something different. This is a Scandinavian-type whipper in food-contact-grade stainless steel, which the listing says better fits the contours of mixing bowls, sports bottles and cups than an ordinary whisk. It is dishwasher safe and made in the USA, the only pick here that says so.
The trade-off is information. The listing gives no length or head size, only “small whipper”, and we could not find an independent review. Look at the photos and check it against the vessels you want to use it in. The lead seller is a third party, Badger Wholesale eCommerce.
Why we like it
- Made in the USA, per the listing
- Food-contact-grade stainless steel
- Shape follows bowl and cup contours
- Dishwasher safe
Key specifications
| Model | Whipper |
|---|---|
| Style | Scandinavian-type whipper |
| Material | Stainless steel |
| Length | Not stated |
| Pieces | 1 |
| Safe on nonstick | No: bare metal |
| Care | Dishwasher safe |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
Choose it if US manufacture matters to you, or you want a shape that follows a bottle or cup better than a round balloon.
Skip it if you need an exact size; the listing does not give one.
Pros and cons
Pros
- US-made
- Unusual shape reaches bowl contours
- Dishwasher safe
Cons
- Length not stated
- Less familiar shape
- No review we could read
6. Norpro 7-Inch Mini Whisk – Basic Chrome-Plated Choice

A simple seven-inch whisk from a long-established housewares maker, made of chrome-plated wire. Norpro sells it for a quick whip or stir of salad dressing or dipping sauce, and that is about the right ambition for it.
Chrome plating is the thing to think about. It is not the same as solid stainless steel, and the listing does not state care or give a warranty. Hand wash it and dry it promptly as a sensible precaution, and retire it if the plating starts to chip. The lead seller was a third party, Handy Housewares.
Why we like it
- Seven inches, the longest single whisk here
- Sold for dressings and dipping sauces
- From an established maker
Key specifications
| Model | 2366D |
|---|---|
| Style | Balloon |
| Material | Chrome-plated wire |
| Length | 7 inches |
| Pieces | 1 |
| Safe on nonstick | No: bare metal |
| Care | Not stated; hand washing is the cautious choice |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits a kitchen that only needs a small whisk now and then for a dressing, and wants a known maker rather than an unbranded one.
Skip it if you will use it daily or want it to go in the dishwasher; a stainless model will age better.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Longer reach than a 6-inch whisk
- Known maker
- Plain and simple
Cons
- Chrome-plated wire, not stainless
- Care not stated
- Third-party seller at last check

7. Fox Run Mini Whisks, Set of 4 – Four Sizes, One Flat

If you want a range, this set has four whisks at 5, 7, 7.25 and 8 inches, made of chrome-plated steel. Three are balloon-shaped for rounded bowls, and one is a flat whisk for a small pan of sauce or a beverage. That flat one is the feature: most mini sets give you only balloons.
As with any plated wire, this is a set for light jobs rather than daily hard use. The listing does not state care or a warranty, so hand wash and dry it. Four is also more than many kitchens need, so buy it only if you will really use the range.
Why we like it
- Four sizes from 5 to 8 inches
- Includes one small flat whisk
- Balloon shapes for rounded bowls
- Sold by Amazon.com at last check
Key specifications
| Model | 16607 |
|---|---|
| Style | Three balloon, one flat |
| Material | Chrome-plated steel |
| Length | 5, 7, 7.25 and 8 inches |
| Pieces | 4 |
| Safe on nonstick | No: bare metal |
| Care | Not stated; hand washing is the cautious choice |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It is good value in variety, and useful for a cook who makes small sauces, dressings and drinks and likes having the right size to hand.
Skip it if you want stainless steel, or just one good whisk.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Covers every small job
- Includes a flat whisk
- Easy to share across a kitchen
Cons
- Chrome-plated, not stainless
- Care not stated
- More whisks than many cooks need
8. Mrs. Anderson’s Baking Mini French Coil Whisk – A Spring Coil for Small Sauces

This is an 8-inch coil whisk rather than a balloon, at the long end of what we would call mini. You press down to flatten the spring and scrape the sides and bottom of a pan, then use an up-and-down motion to work in liquid. The listing suggests it for gravy in a roasting pan and for blending thickening agents.
A coil has more places for food to hide, and the maker asks for hand washing in warm, soapy water, unlike the dishwasher-safe balloon from the same brand. So the extra scraping ability comes with a little more cleanup.
Why we like it
- Spring coil flattens against the pan
- Stainless steel
- Reaches a small pan base and sides
- Hangs for storage
Key specifications
| Model | 43627 |
|---|---|
| Style | French coil |
| Material | Stainless steel |
| Length | 8 inches |
| Pieces | 1 |
| Safe on nonstick | No: bare metal |
| Care | Hand wash |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
Pick it if your small whisking is mostly sauces in a pan rather than eggs in a cup. It does what a balloon does poorly, reaching the corner of a small saucepan.
Skip it if you want easy cleaning; a sealed balloon whisk is simpler to wash.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Good contact with the pan base
- Stainless steel
- Long enough for a saucepan
Cons
- Hand wash only
- Food can catch in a coil
- Longer than most mini whisks

How to choose a mini whisk for small jobs
The right small whisk depends less on brand than on four plain details.
1. Head and handle
America’s Test Kitchen’s mini whisk review found head design decisive, favoring broader heads with more wire loops. It preferred handles of about 2.5 to 3 inches and said that much shorter leaves too little room to hold the whisk comfortably. Thicker handles were easier to hold and less likely to cramp your hand.
2. Stainless, chrome or silicone
Stainless steel is the safest all-round choice. Chrome-plated wire needs more care, so keep it dry and retire it if the plating flakes. Silicone-coated wire protects nonstick pans and is quieter in a mug, but it bends more in a thick mixture.
3. How you will clean it
The same review preferred smooth, fully sealed handle bases to coiled or open ones, because there is nowhere for egg to collect. A small whisk gets used with sticky things, so this matters more than it sounds.
4. What you will whisk in
Measure your jars. A six-inch whisk with a wide head may not pass the neck of a narrow bottle, while a tall thin jar may call for something longer. For anything bigger than a small bowl, a small whisk is the wrong tool, and our whisk reviews cover the full-size ones.
How we picked these eight mini whisks
We looked at small whisks sold on Amazon in the United States from identifiable makers, in stock as new, and read each listing for material, size, care and warranty. We read one independent comparison, America’s Test Kitchen’s mini whisk review, published in June 2020, and we say where it names one of our picks, including its lower rating for the Mrs. Anderson’s whisk. Its winner, Tovolo’s stainless model, and its runner-up from Prepworks were not available in stock when we checked, so we did not substitute a similar product and imply it had the same result. Picks without a review we could read rest on the maker’s listing, and the write-up says so. We left out multi-packs from sellers with no clear maker, and OXO’s mini whisk because it already appears on another of our guides. We have not used these whisks ourselves.
What a mini whisk is good for
- Dressings and vinaigrettes: oil, lime and salt in a small bowl or a wide jar, mixed in seconds.
- A single egg: a small whisk in a small bowl beats one or two eggs without needing a big bowl to wash.
- Slurries: cornstarch or flour with a little cold water, smooth before it goes into a hot sauce.
- Drinks in a mug: cocoa, instant coffee or matcha, where a spoon leaves lumps behind.
- Marinades: a small batch of citrus, garlic and spices before it goes over the meat.
- Finishing a small sauce: a few spoonfuls in a little pan, where a large whisk would splash.
It will not whip a bowl of cream efficiently, and it is too short for a deep pot. Those are full-size jobs. If your salsa is the small batch in question, our guide to salsa roja and salsa verde has the background.
Mini whisk questions, answered
What is a mini whisk used for?
Small quantities in small vessels: dressings, an egg or two, slurries, marinades and drinks in a mug or cup. It gives you the action of a whisk where a full-size one will not fit.
What size is a mini whisk?
Most run about 5 to 8 inches long. Six inches is the most common size and a good place to start. The picks here go from a 5-inch whisk in the Fox Run set to the 8-inch Mrs. Anderson’s coil.
Is a small sauce whisk different from a mini whisk?
Sometimes. A small balloon is best in a cup or bowl, while a small coil or flat whisk reaches the base of a small saucepan better. If you mostly make sauces, consider the coil, or the flat whisk in the Fox Run set.
Can you use a mini whisk on nonstick?
Use a silicone-coated one such as the Tovolo here. Babish specifically warns against using its metal whisks on nonstick, and the same caution makes sense for any bare wire.
Is chrome-plated wire all right for a whisk?
It is common on inexpensive whisks, and the Norpro and Fox Run here use it. It needs a little more care than stainless: dry it after washing, and stop using it if the plating chips. If you would rather not think about that, choose stainless.
Our final pick for small whisking
Buy the Kuhn Rikon 6-inch for a tool that does nearly every small job and cleans up easily. Add the Tovolo silicone model if you use small nonstick pans, or take the Babish set if you want two sizes. For full-size options, read our whisk reviews, and when the sauce is ready to serve, see our gravy boat guide.
And if you would rather someone else did the whisking tonight, see the menu or call to order.
