A spit turning slowly over a fire does something a grate cannot: the meat bastes itself as it turns, the skin browns evenly all the way round, and fat drips away instead of pooling. It is how pollo rostizado gets its crackling skin, and it is the idea behind the trompo that roasts al pastor. At home, the same principle gives you a whole chicken, a pork shoulder for tacos or a leg of lamb that cooks evenly with very little attention.
There are three ways to get a rotisserie at home: buy a grill that comes with one, add a rotisserie kit to the grill you already own, or use a countertop rotisserie oven in the kitchen. This guide covers all three. For each we list the type, what it fits, the motor, the spit, the forks and, most important, the maximum load the maker states, and we write “Not stated” when neither the maker nor the Amazon listing gives a figure.

Quick verdict: which rotisserie grill to buy
For the best rotisserie grill with everything built in, choose the Everdure HUB II charcoal grill: its motorized rotisserie has electric height adjustment, four clip-lock forks and a stated capacity of 85 pounds on the listing (88 on Everdure’s page), and the charcoal lights at the push of a button. For a folding charcoal grill with its own motorized spit, take the BRANDMAN 21-inch portable. To add a spit to a grill you already own, the onlyfire universal kit fits most gas grills up to 39 inches wide and the onlyfire kettle ring kit fits 22-inch kettles. For the kitchen counter, the Ronco Showtime takes a 12-pound turkey or two chickens.

Our picks for the best rotisserie grill
The first two are complete grills with a rotisserie. The next three are kits that add a spit to a grill or a fire you already have. The last three cook in a different way: a portable charcoal grill with its own spit, and two electric rotisserie ovens for the kitchen. Each review says what the setup fits, what it can carry and one honest reason to skip it.
1. Everdure HUB II 54-inch Charcoal Grill – The Rotisserie Is Built In

Most rotisseries are an add-on. On the Everdure HUB II the rotisserie is part of the grill: a motor, a rod and four of Everdure’s CLIPLOCK forks are built in and stored inside the cart. Everdure’s page lists a rotisserie capacity of 88.18 pounds and the Amazon listing says up to 85 pounds, the highest stated load in this guide by a wide margin. The listing mentions everything from small chickens to suckling pigs.
The spit has three height settings, and Everdure says the height is adjusted electronically, so you can lower a pork shoulder toward the coals to brown it and raise it again to finish slowly. The charcoal lights with what Everdure calls the Fast Flame Ignition System, a heating element of 1,450 watts on Everdure’s page, which brings the charcoal up in about 10 minutes at the push of a button. That means the grill needs a power outlet within reach of its retractable cord.
The cooking area is 506.85 square inches on two removable chrome grills with cool-to-touch handles, the firebox is porcelain enameled, and the charcoal tray lifts out for cleaning. A double-lined cupboard below doubles as a warming area. The listing gives ten years on the outer body, burners, hood and cart against rust or burn-through, and five years on the exterior paint. Everdure does not publish the spit length.
Why we like it
- Built-in motorized rotisserie with three heights
- Highest stated load here: 85 lb (listing), 88.18 lb (Everdure)
- Four CLIPLOCK forks hold food tight
- Push-button charcoal ignition
- 10-year warranty on body, hood and cart (listing)
Key specifications
| Model | HBCE3BUS |
|---|---|
| Type | Charcoal grill with built-in rotisserie and electric ignition |
| Fits/capacity | 506.85 sq in cooking area |
| Motor | Built-in electric motor; electric height adjustment |
| Spit length | Not stated |
| Forks | 4 CLIPLOCK forks |
| Max load (stated) | 85 lb (listing); 88.18 lb (Everdure) |
| Warranty | 10 years body, burners, hood, cart; 5 years paint (listing) |
Why we recommend it
It suits cooks who want rotisserie to be an everyday option rather than a project: whole chickens for pollo rostizado-style tacos, a pork shoulder, a leg of lamb, with charcoal flavor and no kit to fit.
Skip it if your grill has to live far from an outlet. Both the ignition and the rotisserie are electric, and the grill is large and heavy.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Nothing to fit or align
- Very high stated load
- Long body warranty
Cons
- Needs mains power
- Spit length not published
- Large footprint

2. onlyfire Universal Rotisserie Kit for Gas Grills – A Spit for the Grill You Own

A universal kit is the simplest way to add a rotisserie to an existing gas grill, and onlyfire’s 6012 kit is clear about what it fits. The spit is a 45-inch, 1/2-inch hexagon rod made of two sections, and onlyfire says the kit fits most gas grills with a cooking box up to 39 inches wide. It does not fit any Weber grill, which onlyfire states plainly; Weber owners should look for a model-specific kit.
The motor plugs into a 110-volt outlet, so there are no batteries to run flat halfway through a cook. Onlyfire rates it at 4 watts, turning at a steady rate, and says the kit holds up to 20 pounds of food, enough for a large turkey or two chickens, but is not recommended for whole lambs or pigs. A counterbalance is included, which helps the motor when a roast is lopsided.
The box also holds two heavy-duty four-prong forks, a spit handle, the rod bushing, brackets and screws. Measure the inside width of your firebox before you order, and check that your grill has a place to mount the motor bracket. Onlyfire’s listing does not state a warranty.
Why we like it
- Fits gas grills with cook boxes up to 39 in (onlyfire)
- Corded 110 V motor, no batteries
- Counterbalance included
- Two four-prong forks
Key specifications
| Model | 6012 |
|---|---|
| Type | Universal rotisserie kit for gas grills |
| Fits/capacity | Cook boxes up to 39 in wide; not Weber |
| Motor | 110 V electric, 4 W |
| Spit length | 45 in x 1/2 in hexagon, two sections |
| Forks | 2 four-prong |
| Max load (stated) | 20 lb |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits owners of a two- to four-burner gas grill from almost any brand except Weber who want to try rotisserie chicken without replacing the grill.
Skip it if you want to roast anything over 20 pounds, or if you own a Weber gas grill.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Clear fit and load limits
- Corded motor runs all day
- Counterbalance included
Cons
- Not for Weber grills
- 20 lb limit
- Warranty not stated
3. onlyfire Stainless Steel Rotisserie Ring Kit for 22-inch Kettles – Turns a Kettle Into a Roaster

A kettle grill’s dome is too low for a spit, so a kettle rotisserie adds a steel ring between the bowl and the lid. Onlyfire’s 6005-SS kit is a stainless steel ring that, according to the listing, replaces the Weber 2290 rotisserie and fits 22-1/2-inch charcoal kettles. Weber’s own kettle rotisserie was out of stock when we checked, which makes this the practical route for most kettle owners.
The kit includes the ring, a 5/16-inch square stainless spit, a 110-volt electric motor with bracket, a counterbalance and bushing kit, two four-prong forks and a handle. Onlyfire rates the motor to hold up to 20 pounds. Bank the charcoal on both sides of the bowl, or use charcoal baskets, with a drip pan in the middle under the meat.
Onlyfire is honest about the one weakness: the ring is not a tight fit, and there is a small gap between it and the kettle that can let a little heat escape, which the listing suggests sealing with foil or a high-heat gasket if it bothers you. It does not fit the Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker or the 22-inch SNS kettle. The spit length and a warranty are not stated.
Why we like it
- Fits 22-1/2 in kettles; replaces Weber 2290 (listing)
- Stainless ring, spit and forks
- 110 V motor rated to 20 lb
- Counterbalance included
Key specifications
| Model | 6005-SS |
|---|---|
| Type | Rotisserie ring kit for charcoal kettles |
| Fits/capacity | 22-1/2 in kettles; not Smokey Mountain or 22 in SNS |
| Motor | 110 V electric |
| Spit length | Not stated; 5/16 in square stainless rod |
| Forks | 2 four-prong stainless |
| Max load (stated) | 20 lb |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
Choose it if you already cook carne asada on a 22-inch kettle and want spit-roasted chicken or pork over charcoal without buying a second grill.
Skip it if a perfect seal matters to you; the listing itself warns of a small gap between ring and bowl.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Complete kit with motor
- Stainless construction
- Uses the kettle you own
Cons
- Small gap at the ring
- Kettle sizes only
- Warranty not stated
4. onlyfire Adjustable Spit Roaster with Cordless Motor – A Spit for Any Fire

This onlyfire kit is not tied to one grill. It is a free-standing spit with a support rod and an adjustable motor bracket, and onlyfire says it works over almost any open flame: a gas grill, a charcoal grill, a fire pit or a campfire. The bracket moves up and down, so you can set the meat at the right distance from the fire.
The motor is the clever part. Onlyfire’s listing calls it a 3-in-1 motor that runs on two D-cell batteries (not included), on the included power adapter, or from a power bank through the included USB cable. That makes it usable at a campsite or a ranch with no outlet. The stated capacity is 20 pounds, which onlyfire says covers chicken, ribs, pork and even lechon-style cuts.
Everything packs into the included carrying bag. The listing does not give a spit length, a fork count beyond “rotisserie fork set” or a warranty, and an open fire is much harder to control than a grill, so expect to tend the fire and adjust the height as it burns down.
Why we like it
- Works over grills, fire pits or campfires (onlyfire)
- Motor runs on D batteries, adapter or power bank
- Adjustable height bracket
- 20 lb stated capacity; carrying bag included
Key specifications
| Model | F-BRK6202-SS1 |
|---|---|
| Type | Free-standing spit roaster kit |
| Fits/capacity | Gas or charcoal grills, fire pits, campfires |
| Motor | Cordless; 2 D batteries, adapter or power bank |
| Spit length | Not stated |
| Forks | Fork set included; count not stated |
| Max load (stated) | 20 lb |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits campers and anyone with a fire pit who wants a spit-roasted chicken or pork away from the patio grill and away from an outlet.
Skip it if you want precise, hands-off cooking. Open fires need tending, and battery motors can run down on a long cook.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Three ways to power the motor
- Portable, with bag
- Height adjusts
Cons
- Spit length not stated
- 20 lb limit
- Batteries not included

5. BRANDMAN 21-inch Portable Charcoal Rotisserie Grill – Grill and Spit That Fold Up

The BRANDMAN BMROTIS is a folding charcoal grill with a motorized rotisserie built for it, so you can grill and spit-roast at the same time. The listing gives about 260 square inches of cooking area on porcelain-enameled grates, which BRANDMAN says feeds three to five people, and a weight under 25 pounds, light enough to fold into a car trunk.
The spit sits at three adjustable heights, which the listing says helps control the roasting temperature, and the spit forks have lockable tines to hold food in place. Eight adjustable air vents along the sides control the charcoal, from high heat for searing to lower heat for slow roasting. The listing gives a one-year limited warranty.
BRANDMAN does not state the motor’s power source, the spit length or a maximum load, so plan on whole chickens and smaller roasts rather than a big turkey. For a light charcoal grill that also turns a chicken, it is the most complete portable option we found in stock.
Why we like it
- Grill and motorized rotisserie in one (listing)
- Three spit heights
- Lockable fork tines
- Folds; under 25 lb
Key specifications
| Model | BMROTIS |
|---|---|
| Type | Portable folding charcoal grill with rotisserie |
| Fits/capacity | About 260 sq in; 3 to 5 people |
| Motor | Motor included; power source not stated |
| Spit length | Not stated |
| Forks | Spit forks with lockable tines |
| Max load (stated) | Not stated |
| Warranty | 1-year limited |
Why we recommend it
Choose it for tailgates, beach days and small patios where you want a whole chicken turning over charcoal with sausages or vegetables grilling below.
Skip it if you need a stated weight limit or plan to roast anything bigger than a chicken or two.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Light and foldable
- Adjustable spit height
- Eight air vents
Cons
- No stated max load
- Motor power source not stated
- Small cooking area
6. Ronco Showtime Modern Rotisserie Oven – Rotisserie Chicken on the Counter

Not everyone has a grill, and a countertop rotisserie oven gives you spit-roasted chicken in the kitchen. Ronco’s Showtime Modern Edition, the ST5500 in black, holds up to a 12-pound turkey or two whole chickens, according to Ronco, while standing 13 inches tall and 17.75 inches wide so it fits under wall cabinets.
There are three switch settings: Roast, which turns the spit in front of the heating element; Sear, which stops the spit so one side browns; and No Heat Rotation, which keeps the juices moving without cooking. An adjustable three-hour timer shuts the oven off when time is up. A removable heat reflector helps brown the meat, and an included multipurpose basket handles fish, vegetables, burgers and sausages.
Ronco says the interior wipes clean with a damp cloth and the removable glass door and drip pan are dishwasher safe. The box includes the rotisserie spit, a carving platform, oven gloves and food ties. Ronco does not publish the wattage, spit length or warranty on its product page; a stainless version of the same oven is listed on Amazon with a 15-pound figure, so go by the 12 pounds Ronco gives for this model.
Why we like it
- 12 lb turkey or two whole chickens (Ronco)
- Roast, Sear and No Heat Rotation settings
- Three-hour timer with auto shut-off
- Dishwasher-safe glass door and drip pan
Key specifications
| Model | ST5500BLGEN |
|---|---|
| Type | Electric countertop rotisserie oven |
| Fits/capacity | 12 lb turkey or 2 whole chickens; 13 in tall x 17.75 in wide |
| Motor | Built-in; preset rotation speed |
| Spit length | Not stated |
| Forks | Spit included; food ties included |
| Max load (stated) | 12 lb turkey |
| Warranty | Not stated |
Why we recommend it
It suits apartment cooks and anyone who wants pollo rostizado-style chicken on a weeknight without lighting a grill, with a timer that turns the oven off.
Skip it if you want smoke or char. An electric oven browns the skin but gives none of the flavor of charcoal or wood.
Pros and cons
Pros
- No grill needed
- Auto shut-off timer
- Easy-clean parts
Cons
- No smoky flavor
- Wattage not published
- Capacity figures differ by listing
7. NutriChef Vertical Countertop Rotisserie Oven – A Small Vertical Spit

A vertical rotisserie stands the food upright and turns it in front of the heat, the arrangement used for shawarma and, in Mexico, for the trompo that cooks al pastor. The NutriChef PKRT16BK brings a small version of that idea to the counter. NutriChef lists 700 watts from dual heating elements, a rotary timer up to two hours, a see-through window and a swing door.
It comes with several racks: a poultry tower for a whole chicken, a skewer rack with eight skewers, a basket tower, a roasting rack and a nonstick drip tray, and fat drains into the tray by gravity. NutriChef says the parts are dishwasher safe, and the listing gives a one-year limited warranty.
Be realistic about size and power. NutriChef lists the oven at 9.1 by 9.1 by 10.2 inches, and it does not state a maximum load, so think small chickens, kebabs and chicken pieces rather than a turkey. It will not make true al pastor, which needs a tall stack of marinated pork turning beside a strong side heat; it is a compact oven for upright roasting.
Why we like it
- Vertical spit with poultry tower and 8 skewers (NutriChef)
- Dual heating elements, 700 W
- Two-hour timer
- Dishwasher-safe parts
Key specifications
| Model | PKRT16BK |
|---|---|
| Type | Electric vertical countertop rotisserie oven |
| Fits/capacity | 9.1 x 9.1 x 10.2 in (NutriChef); capacity not stated |
| Motor | Built-in, continuous rotation; 700 W heating |
| Spit length | Not stated |
| Forks | Poultry tower, skewer rack with 8 skewers |
| Max load (stated) | Not stated |
| Warranty | 1-year limited (listing) |
Why we recommend it
Choose it if counter space is tight and you mostly roast chicken pieces, small birds and kebabs for one to three people.
Skip it if you want a family-size bird; the Ronco holds far more, and NutriChef gives no weight limit.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Small footprint
- Several racks included
- Dishwasher-safe parts
Cons
- Low power, small interior
- No stated max load
- Two-hour timer limit
How to choose a rotisserie for your grill
A rotisserie is only as good as its fit and its motor. These five points decide whether a setup will turn your chicken smoothly or leave it lurching over the fire.
1. Built in, add-on or countertop
A grill with a built-in rotisserie, like the Everdure, has nothing to align and is ready whenever you are. An add-on kit makes sense if your grill already suits you, but it has to match the grill exactly. A countertop oven skips the fire altogether: convenient and indoor, but without smoke or char.
2. Fit: measure before you buy
For a gas grill, measure the inside width of the firebox and check where the motor bracket mounts. The onlyfire 6012 fits cook boxes up to 39 inches but no Weber grills. For a kettle, the ring must match the bowl: the onlyfire ring fits 22-1/2-inch kettles, not the Smokey Mountain or the 22-inch SNS. The lid also has to close over the meat, which is the whole point of a kettle ring.

3. Stated load and balance
Every motor has a limit, and the makers here state them: 20 pounds for the onlyfire kits, 85 to 88 pounds for the Everdure, a 12-pound turkey for the Ronco. Stay under it, and balance the load. A chicken or roast that sits off-center makes the motor work hard on the way up and lurch on the way down; center the meat on the spit, truss it tightly, and use a counterbalance if your kit includes one.
4. Motor and power
Corded 110-volt motors, like those in the onlyfire 6012 and kettle kits, run as long as you need. Battery motors go anywhere but can slow as the batteries fade on a long cook. The Everdure’s motor and ignition both need mains power. Plan where the cord will run so no one trips over it and it stays clear of the hot grill.
5. Spit and forks
A longer, thicker spit carries more weight without bending. Four-prong forks, used in pairs, grip better than two-prong ones; Everdure’s CLIPLOCK forks and BRANDMAN’s lockable tines are designed to stop the meat slipping as it turns. Where a maker does not publish the spit length, as several here do not, measure your grill and ask the seller before you buy.
How we picked these seven rotisseries
We started from what a restaurant kitchen wants from a spit: steady rotation, a motor that will not stall under a whole bird or a pork shoulder, a solid grip on the meat and a fit that does not need improvising. We then looked for grills with rotisseries, rotisserie kits and countertop rotisserie ovens sold on Amazon in the United States and showing as in stock when we checked, and confirmed each specification on the maker’s own page or the brand’s Amazon listing. Where they disagree, as with the Everdure’s maximum load or the two Ronco listings’ turkey sizes, we say so. Several familiar names were not available in stock when we checked, including Weber’s kettle rotisserie, Char-Broil’s universal rotisserie and Nexgrill’s Deluxe 6-burner gas grill with its rotisserie kit, so they are not here; we found no in-stock Napoleon or Cuisinart rotisserie kit on Amazon either. We have not cooked on these grills or kits for this guide, and we did not use outside reviews such as Wirecutter, Serious Eats or America’s Test Kitchen for it, so everything here comes from the makers, the listings and our own kitchen’s view of what a rotisserie has to do.
Rotisserie safety outdoors
Follow the manual for your grill and your kit first. On top of that, these points come from the U.S. Fire Administration’s outdoor fire and grilling safety page:
- Outdoors only. USFA says to use propane, charcoal and wood pellet grills only outside, because indoor use can cause a fire or carbon monoxide poisoning. Countertop rotisserie ovens like the Ronco and NutriChef are electric kitchen appliances; use them as their makers direct.
- Give it space. Place the grill well away from siding and deck railings and out from under eaves and overhanging branches, and do not store or use a grill on a porch or balcony.
- Keep a safe zone. USFA advises a three-foot safe zone around the grill to keep children and pets away. A turning spit and a dangling motor cord are both easy to catch.
- Light gas grills with the lid open, as USFA advises, and never walk away from a lit grill. Rotisserie cooks are long, so stay nearby.
- Clean after each use. USFA says cleaning the grill after each use removes grease that can start a fire. Empty the drip pan under the spit, too.

Spit-roasting the Mexican way
Rotisserie cooking already has a place in Mexican food. Here is how a kitchen would put a new spit to work.
- Pollo rostizado: rub a whole chicken with a paste of dried chiles, garlic, oregano and citrus, truss it tightly, and roast it over indirect heat until the skin is deep brown. The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service’s safe minimum internal temperature chart lists 165°F for poultry; check the thickest part of the thigh with a thermometer, and see our best grill thermometer guide for one that reads fast.
- Pork for tacos: a marinated pork shoulder or loin on the spit makes excellent tacos. FSIS lists 145°F with a three-minute rest for whole cuts of pork; a shoulder you want to shred needs to go much further for tenderness.
- About al pastor: true al pastor is cooked on a vertical trompo with heat from the side, as our what is al pastor guide explains. A horizontal spit will not reproduce it, but achiote-and-chile pork turned over the coals, sliced thin and served with pineapple, onion and cilantro, comes close in spirit.
- Use the drippings: set a pan of onions, chiles and potatoes under the spit to catch the fat and juices as the meat turns.
Rotisserie grill questions, answered
What is the best grill with rotisserie?
For a built-in system, the Everdure HUB II charcoal grill, with a motorized spit, electric height control, four CLIPLOCK forks and a stated load of 85 to 88 pounds. For a gas grill, add a spit with a universal kit such as onlyfire’s, which fits cook boxes up to 39 inches wide.
What is the best rotisserie for a grill I already own?
Match the kit to the grill. For most non-Weber gas grills with a cook box up to 39 inches, the onlyfire 6012 universal kit; for a 22-1/2-inch kettle, the onlyfire stainless ring kit. Both are rated to hold 20 pounds.
How much weight can a rotisserie hold?
Only what its maker states. Kits in this guide are rated at 20 pounds, the Everdure at 85 to 88 pounds and the Ronco oven at a 12-pound turkey. Balance matters as much as weight: an off-center load strains any motor.
Is a countertop rotisserie oven as good as a grill rotisserie?
It is easier and works indoors, and it browns chicken well. It does not add the smoke and char of charcoal or wood, so choose it for convenience and a grill rotisserie for flavor.
Can I use a rotisserie on a charcoal kettle?
Yes, with a ring kit that raises the lid to clear the spit, such as the onlyfire ring for 22-1/2-inch kettles. Bank the coals on both sides and put a drip pan underneath.
Did you rely on any outside reviews?
No. We did not read or rely on Wirecutter, Serious Eats or America’s Test Kitchen for this page. Our picks come from maker specifications, Amazon listings and what a restaurant kitchen needs from a rotisserie.
Our final pick for spit-roasting at home
Buy the Everdure HUB II if you want the best rotisserie grill with nothing to fit: a built-in motorized spit that carries a very large load over charcoal. Choose an onlyfire kit to add a spit to the gas grill or kettle you already have, the BRANDMAN for a portable charcoal grill with its own spit, and the Ronco Showtime for rotisserie chicken in the kitchen. Whatever you choose, stay under the stated load, balance the meat and keep the grill outdoors with a three-foot safe zone.
