Will It Fit? The Best Rotisserie Kit for Grill Owners

Seven rotisserie kits sorted by the grills they fit, from universal gas kits to kamado rings, plus the popular kits we left out and why.

Rows of skewers over glowing coals.

A rotisserie kit is a simple machine: a rod, two forks, a small motor and something to hold it all to the grill. The cooking is the easy part. A chicken turning slowly over steady heat bastes itself and browns all the way around. The hard part is finding a kit that actually fits the grill you own.

That is how this guide is built. Each of the seven kits below comes with a plain statement of which grills it fits, taken from the maker or listing. We also explain which popular kits we left out and why, including some you may have seen recommended elsewhere.

Quick verdict: which grill rotisserie to buy

For a regular gas grill, the best rotisserie kit for grill owners is the Dyna-Glo Universal Heavy Duty Kit, with a stated firebox limit of 32 inches and a 55-pound rating. If your grill maker sells its own kit, buy that one first: Broil King, Kamado Joe, Bull, recteq, Coyote and Summerset all do.

Before you buy anything, measure the inside width of the firebox and look for a place to mount the motor bracket. Those two details decide nearly everything.

1. Dyna-Glo Universal Heavy Duty Rotisserie Kit – Wide Fit for Most Gas Grills

Best overallDyna-Glo Universal Heavy Duty Rotisserie Kit for Grills

If you own an ordinary gas grill and its maker doesn’t sell a rotisserie, start here. Dyna-Glo lists a fit for most gas grills with a firebox up to 32 inches wide, and says its two-piece universal bracket is designed for most gas and charcoal grills.

The kit has a 34.4-inch chrome-plated spit rod with a 6.6-inch extension, two heavy-gauge four-prong forks and a 9-watt motor with an on/off switch and a 6-foot cord. Dyna-Glo rates it for well-balanced loads up to 55 pounds. That word balanced matters: a lopsided bird loads a motor far harder than a neat roast.

Our review search for universal kits returned affiliate lists rather than real comparisons, so this pick rests on the listing and maker details. Those are unusually complete, and that is part of why it leads the page. Measure the firebox and check where a bracket can mount before you order.

Why we like it

  • Listing gives a clear firebox limit of 32 inches
  • Rod extension adds range for wider grills
  • Stated load limit of 55 pounds for balanced food
  • One-year warranty on the listing

Key specifications

Model DG9WB
Fits Most gas grills with firebox up to 32 in; bracket for most gas and charcoal grills
Motor 9W, on/off switch, 6-ft cord
Load limit 55 lb, well balanced
Spit rod 34.4 in chrome-plated, 6.6 in extension
Forks 2, four-prong
Counterbalance Not stated
Warranty 1 year

Why we recommend it

Buy it for a standard three or four-burner gas grill. You get a stated fit and a stated load limit from an established grill brand.

Skip it if your grill’s firebox is wider than 32 inches, or the side wall leaves no room for a bracket.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Broad stated fit
  • Stated load limit
  • Listing says dishwasher safe

Cons

  • Chrome plating, not stainless
  • A 6-foot cord may need an outdoor-rated extension
  • Counterbalance not stated

2. Broil King Deluxe Universal Rotisserie Kit – Brackets for Four Grill Brands

Best for Broil KingBroil King 66009 Deluxe Universal Rotisserie Kit

If your grill says Broil King, Broil-Mate, Sterling or GrillPro on the lid, this is the kit to check first. The listing says it comes with OEM brackets for those brands, which takes much of the guesswork out of mounting.

It includes a motor with an on/off switch, heavy-duty spit forks and a counterbalancing kit. The spit rod is 33.5 inches, plus a 6-inch extension if you need it. The listing does not give motor wattage or a load limit, so for a heavy cut, ask the seller or check Broil King’s manual.

The word universal is in the name, and the kit may fit other grills, but the listing only promises those four brands. We found no independent review of it, so the pick rests on the listing and maker details.

Why we like it

  • OEM brackets for four named grill brands
  • Counterbalance kit included
  • Rod extension for wider grills

Key specifications

Model 66009
Fits Broil King, Broil-Mate, Sterling and GrillPro grills
Motor Electric, on/off switch; watts not stated
Load limit Not stated
Spit rod 33.5 in, 6 in extension
Forks Heavy-duty; count not stated
Counterbalance Yes
Warranty Not stated

Why we recommend it

This is the straightforward choice for an owner of one of those four brands, since the brackets are made for them.

Skip it if you own a different brand and want a promise of fit. The Dyna-Glo states a firebox limit instead.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Brand-specific brackets
  • Counterbalance in the box
  • From a named grill maker

Cons

  • No load limit on the listing
  • Motor watts not stated
  • No independent review found

3. Kamado Joe JoeTisserie for 24-inch Big Joe – A Wedge That Seals the Dome

Best for kamadosKamado Joe JoeTisserie Rotisserie Accessory Attachment for 24-inch Big Joe Grills with Stainless Steel Spit Rods up to 50 lbs of Food

Kamados have a heavy domed lid and no side walls for a bracket, so a normal kit is useless on one. The JoeTisserie solves this with a wedge-shaped ring that sits between the base and the dome, holding the spit while the lid closes down on it to keep the heat in.

Kamado Joe lists a 304 stainless spit rod, quickly adjustable forks, a 120V motor and a capacity of up to 50 pounds. It names the Big Joe series, the XL Big Green Egg and other round 24-inch charcoal grills. BBQGuys warns that on non-Kamado Joe grills there could be gaps around the ring or trouble closing the lid, so check before you buy for another brand.

The 18-inch Classic version appears in our Kamado Joe accessories guide. This is a separate listing for a different size of grill, which is why we include it here. We searched for a professional review and found only owner reviews on retailer sites. Those are mostly positive, with reports of whole chickens, turkey and prime rib, though a few complain of damage in shipping.

Why we like it

  • Sold in a size for 24-inch kamados
  • Listing states a 304 stainless spit rod
  • Wedge shape seals the dome, per the maker
  • Load rating of up to 50 pounds in the title

Key specifications

Why we recommend it

Buy it if you own a Big Joe or an XL Egg and want a large bird or roast turning over charcoal, with the lid shut.

Skip it if your kamado is 18 inches. This listing is the 24-inch size.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Lid stays closed during the cook
  • Stainless spit rod
  • Named fit for XL Big Green Egg too

Cons

  • Only for round 24-inch grills
  • Possible gaps on other brands, per BBQGuys
  • No professional review found

4. Bull Outdoor 30-inch Stainless Rotisserie Kit – For a Built-In Drop-In Grill

Best for built-insBull Outdoor Products Stainless Steel Rotisserie Kit

Built-in grills often need a rod that matches the exact width of the firebox, and a 30-inch drop-in is one of the common sizes. Bull’s kit comes with a stainless steel motor, a stainless steel cage and a chrome-plated, single-piece spit.

Bull says it is designed to fit most 30-inch drop-in grills. A single-piece rod has no joint to loosen, which is a plain advantage over an extension rod if your grill suits it. The listing gives no wattage or load limit, and says the product is made in China.

If you own Bull’s 38-inch grill, it sells a separate 38-inch kit. We found no independent review of either, so the pick rests on the listing and maker details.

Why we like it

  • Single-piece chrome-plated spit
  • Stainless motor and cage, per the listing
  • One-year warranty, per the listing

Key specifications

Model 46000
Fits Most 30-inch drop-in grills
Motor Stainless, electric; watts not stated
Load limit Not stated
Spit rod Chrome-plated, single piece
Forks Not stated
Counterbalance Not stated
Warranty 1 year on residential use

Why we recommend it

This suits an outdoor kitchen with a 30-inch Bull or similar drop-in grill, when the width is confirmed.

Skip it if your grill isn’t a 30-inch drop-in. A one-piece rod cannot be adjusted for a wider firebox.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • No rod joint to loosen
  • Stainless motor housing
  • From an outdoor kitchen brand

Cons

  • No load limit on the listing
  • Fork details not stated
  • Fixed length

5. recteq Rotisserie Kit for X-Fire Pro – Rotisserie on a Pellet Grill

Best for pellet grillsrecteq Rotisserie Kit

Most pellet grills don’t have a rotisserie option at all. recteq’s X-Fire Pro does, and this is the maker’s own kit for it, with stainless spikes, a spit rod, stabilizing inserts and a high-torque motor.

Be clear about the fit. The listing says it is compatible with the X-Fire Pro, and retailers note it may not work on other models or brands. If you own a different recteq, it isn’t the kit for you, and our pellet grill guide covers that wider market.

We searched for a review of the kit and found none. Tom’s Guide has written about a year with the X-Fire Pro 825, but that review covers the grill, so the pick rests on the listing and maker details.

Why we like it

  • Made by the grill’s maker
  • Stainless spikes and spit rod
  • Stabilizing inserts included

Key specifications

Model RT-RTSSRKT
Fits recteq X-Fire Pro only
Motor High-torque; watts not stated
Load limit Not stated
Spit rod Stainless
Forks Stainless spikes; count not stated
Counterbalance Stabilizing inserts

Why we recommend it

If you own an X-Fire Pro and like cooking whole birds, this is the simple answer, since the kit is made for that one grill.

Skip it if you own anything other than an X-Fire Pro.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Purpose-made for one grill
  • Stainless parts
  • No fit guesswork on that grill

Cons

  • Fits one grill line only
  • No load limit on the listing
  • No review of the kit found

6. Coyote 30-inch Rotisserie Kit – All Stainless for Coyote Gas Grills

Best stainless kitCoyote Rotisserie Kit for 30 in Gas Grills

Coyote’s kit is a tidy package for its 30-inch gas grills: motor, spit rod, two forks and a counterbalance, with 304 stainless steel construction. The listing also mentions a newly designed tray that it says improves function and ease of use.

The title says 30-inch gas grills without naming models, so confirm the fit against your Coyote manual before ordering, and treat use on another brand as unconfirmed. The listing doesn’t state the motor’s wattage or a load limit.

We found no independent review of this kit, and the pick rests on the listing and maker details.

Why we like it

  • Listing states 304 stainless construction
  • Includes a counterbalance
  • Complete kit in one box

Key specifications

Model C3ROT30
Fits 30-inch gas grills; models not named
Motor Included; watts not stated
Load limit Not stated

Skip it if your grill isn’t a 30-inch Coyote and you can’t confirm the mount.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • 304 stainless, per the listing
  • Counterbalance included
  • Complete kit

Cons

  • Models not named on the listing

7. Summerset 32-inch Sizzler Rotisserie Kit – A Named Fit for Sizzler Grills

Best for SummersetSummerset Professional Grills Complete Rotisserie Kit for 32" Sizzler & Sizzler Pro Series Grills - ROTKIT-SIZ32

This is a kit for one job: a 32-inch Summerset Sizzler or Sizzler Pro. The listing states 304 stainless steel construction and a capacity of up to 25 pounds, which covers a couple of chickens or a good-sized roast.

A rotisserie that shares a maker with the grill removes most of the guesswork about rod length and bracket holes. The trade-off is that it’s no use on anything else. The listing doesn’t state the motor’s wattage, and Summerset sells a separate kit for its 26-inch Sizzler.

We ran no review search for this kit, so the pick rests on the listing and maker details.

Why we like it

  • Named fit for two Summerset lines
  • Listing states 304 stainless steel
  • Stated load of up to 25 pounds

Key specifications

Model ROTKIT-SIZ32
Fits Summerset 32-inch Sizzler and Sizzler Pro
Motor Complete kit, per the title; watts not stated
Load limit Up to 25 lb
Spit rod Stainless; size not stated
Forks Not stated
Counterbalance Not stated
Warranty Not stated

Why we recommend it

Buy it if you own that exact 32-inch grill. For an owner of that grill it is the obvious first check.

Skip it if you own the 26-inch Sizzler or any other grill. Buy the kit sold for your size.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Clear fit for a named grill
  • 304 stainless steel
  • Stated load limit

Cons

  • Fits one grill line only
  • Few details on the listing
  • Rests on the listing alone

If you own a Weber or a charcoal kettle

Weber owners may wonder why their brand isn’t above. Weber’s kit for Spirit and pellet grills is already in our Weber grill accessories guide, and we don’t repeat a product on two pages. Its Genesis II kit was low in stock when we checked. Its 22-inch kettle kit, the winner of America’s Test Kitchen’s review of kettle rotisseries, was out of stock.

That same review is why we left out the onlyfire ring kit, even though it was named a best buy. The reviewers made great food with it, but reported a thin motor bracket that sagged when hot and may have let the spit come out of the motor while roasting lamb. They also had to stop and adjust a bushing while the grill was red hot. We would rather name no kettle kit than recommend one with that report behind it. Our rotisserie grill guide looks at grills with a spit built in, for readers starting from scratch.

We also left out the OneGrill and ROTO-Q 360 kits. Both turn up in plenty of affiliate lists, but we searched for independent reviews of both and didn’t find any we could rely on. For gear that holds your dinner and turns it over a live fire, we want more than that from a smaller brand.

How to choose a grill rotisserie

Measure the firebox. A kit’s rod must span the grill, with room left for the bracket and handle. Fit claims like “most grills” are only a starting point. If you are still picking a grill, our gas grill guide is the place to begin.

Find the mounting point. Many gas grills have pre-drilled holes for a motor bracket, and many don’t. Check your manual before you buy, and don’t drill a grill unless the maker’s instructions allow it.

Read the load limit carefully. A rating usually assumes a balanced load. America’s Test Kitchen found motor strength mattered most with heavy, uneven cuts, and that a snug spit-to-motor connection counts for a lot. A counterbalance helps when the food isn’t even.

Look at forks and rod. The same review preferred two-prong forks, because they spear food evenly and firmly, and sturdy brackets with screws that are easy to grip. Stainless parts suit a grill that lives outdoors, while chrome-plated parts should be handled and cleaned according to the maker’s instructions.

Plan the power. Electric motors need an outlet near the grill. Cord lengths vary, so use an outdoor-rated extension cord if you need one, and keep it away from heat.

How we picked these seven rotisserie kits

We have not used these products ourselves. We started from Amazon listings and kept only kits in stock as new from established grill makers. We read each maker’s stated fit, motor and load details, and we say “not stated” where a listing gives nothing. The only independent comparison we could find covers kettle rings, from America’s Test Kitchen, and it shaped our buying advice. Where we searched for a review of a kit and found none, the pick says so.

Every pick is a full rotisserie kit with a spit and a motor, not a basket, a skewer set or a replacement part. Rods and forks touch your food and motors run beside a fire, so we held smaller brands to a higher bar. We checked the CPSC recall database by brand on the day of writing, and it showed no recall for any kit here. Records change, so check again before you buy.

Grill rotisserie questions, answered

Will a universal grill rotisserie fit my grill?

It might. Check three things: firebox width, a mounting point for the bracket, and lid clearance. Dyna-Glo states a 32-inch firebox limit, which is more useful than the words “most grills” on their own.

Can I put a rotisserie on a charcoal grill?

Yes, but kits differ. Dyna-Glo says its bracket is designed for most gas and charcoal grills, and the JoeTisserie is made for round 24-inch charcoal kamados. Kettles usually need a ring kit that sits on the bowl.

How much weight can a rotisserie kit hold?

It varies, and many listings don’t say. Here, Dyna-Glo lists 55 pounds balanced, Kamado Joe up to 50 and Summerset up to 25. Stay well under a limit with uneven food, like a bone-in leg of lamb.

How do I balance a chicken on the spit?

Truss it tightly, run the rod through the center, and set the forks firmly. Rotate the rod by hand before lighting the fire. If one side keeps dropping, adjust the counterbalance or reposition the bird. A meat thermometer tells you when it’s done; see our instant-read thermometer guide.

Do I need a drip pan?

A pan under the food catches fat and helps limit flare-ups. Follow your grill maker’s advice on burners and heat settings.

Our last turn at the spit

Start with the kit your grill maker sells. If there isn’t one, the Dyna-Glo is the one to measure against. Either way, fit comes before features.
