Undermount, Drop-In or Farmhouse: The Best Single Bowl Kitchen Sink

Undermount, drop-in, granite or fireclay: eight single-bowl sinks with room for a stockpot, and what to measure before you buy one.

Looking down into a deep, square stainless steel sink set into a white stone counter
One wide, deep bowl with no divider in the way.

In a Mexican kitchen the sink earns its keep on the big jobs. It is where the pozole pot gets scrubbed after a weekend batch, where the tall tamale steamer has to lie down to be rinsed, where a sheet pan of charred tomatoes and chiles goes to soak, and where dried chiles get a quick rinse before they go in the pan. A divided sink makes all of that harder, because the divider sits right where the pot needs to go.

That is the case for one wide, deep bowl. This guide names the single-bowl sinks worth considering, from undermount stainless to drop-in, granite composite and fireclay farmhouse, and explains what to measure so the sink you buy actually fits your largest pot and your cabinet.

Quick verdict: which single-bowl sink to buy

For most kitchens, the best single bowl kitchen sink is the Kraus Standart PRO 32-inch undermount sink: Kraus lists it as 16-gauge stainless steel with a 30 by 17-inch bowl that is 10 inches deep, sound-dampening pads, a bottom grid and a roll-up drying rack in the box. If you want to prep right over the bowl, choose the Ruvati 33-inch workstation sink. If you are replacing an old drop-in sink without changing the countertop, the Kohler Task 27-inch top-/undermount sink installs either way.

Whichever you choose, check your cabinet width first, and have a licensed plumber or installer fit it where local codes require one.

Our picks for the best single bowl kitchen sink

These eight sinks cover the main ways to fit one big bowl into a kitchen: undermount stainless, workstation sinks with sliding accessories, a dual-mount sink for drop-in replacements, granite composite, and fireclay and stainless farmhouse sinks. Every spec below is taken from the maker’s listing; where a listing does not state something, the table says so.

1. Kraus Standart PRO 32-inch Undermount Sink – Deep Bowl, Quiet Pads

Best overallKraus KHU100-32 Standart PRO 16 Gauge Undermount Single Bowl Stainless Steel Kitchen Sink

The Kraus Standart PRO is the plain, deep, square-ish bowl that most cooks picture when they say “single bowl.” Kraus lists the sink at 32 by 19 inches overall and 10 inches deep, with a bowl of 30 by 17 inches, and it needs a cabinet at least 36 inches wide. That bowl is long enough to lay a tall tamale steamer on its side and wide enough for a half sheet pan to sit flat at the bottom to soak.

This listing is a bundle: the sink comes with a drain assembly, a bottom grid and a towel, plus Kraus’s roll-up drying rack, which Kraus says is silicone-coated stainless steel and can hold a 12-quart stockpot full of water. Rolled across the bowl, it gives you a place to set a hot pot or drain blanched vegetables without taking up counter space.

Kraus describes the steel as 16 gauge with a satin finish and says the sink has its NoiseDefend sound-dampening pads. As an undermount sink, it sits below a solid-surface counter such as stone or quartz, so crumbs and masa scraps wipe straight into the bowl. That also means it is not a drop-in replacement for an old laminate countertop.

Why we like it

  • 10-inch-deep bowl, 30 by 17 inches inside, per Kraus
  • 16-gauge stainless steel, as stated in the listing
  • Sound-dampening pads included, per Kraus
  • Roll-up drying rack in the box, rated by Kraus for a full 12-quart stockpot

Key specifications

Model KHU100-32 (with KRM-10BLACK rack)
Material/gauge Stainless steel, 16 gauge
Size & depth 32 x 19 x 10 inches
Bowl 30 x 17 x 10 inches
Mount Undermount
Minimum cabinet 36 inches
Accessories included Drain assembly, bottom grid, towel, roll-up rack
Sound pads/coating NoiseDefend pads (per Kraus)

Why we recommend it

It suits a cook with a stone or quartz counter, a 36-inch sink base and a stockpot that never fits anywhere. It is the simplest big bowl here, with nothing to slide or store.

Skip it if you want cutting boards and colanders that ride on a ledge over the bowl; this is a plain sink, not a workstation.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Deep, long bowl for pots and sheet pans
  • Heavy 16-gauge steel, per the listing
  • Bottom grid and rack included

Cons

  • Undermount only, so it needs a solid-surface counter
  • Needs a 36-inch cabinet
  • No ledge for workstation accessories

2. Ruvati 33-inch Undermount Workstation Sink – Prep Right Over the Bowl

Best workstationRuvati 33-in 16-Gauge Undermount Workstation Kitchen Sink - RVH8222

A workstation sink has ledges along the inside edge so boards, colanders and racks can slide across the bowl. Ruvati’s RVH8222 has two tiers of ledges, front and back, which Ruvati says lets accessories sit at two heights. In practice that means you can chop onions and cilantro on the board, push the trimmings into the bowl, and rinse a colander of tomatillos below without moving anything to the counter.

The box is generous. Ruvati lists a hardwood cutting board that is flat on one side and a tray on the other, a wood platform with a mixing bowl and a colander, a three-bowl serving board, a foldable drying rack, a bottom rinse grid, a basket strainer drain and a decorative drain cover. The three-bowl board is the kind of thing you set salsa and garnishes on.

Ruvati lists 16-gauge T-304 stainless steel, exterior dimensions of 33-1/2 by 19 inches, and a bowl 31-7/8 inches wide, 14-5/8 inches front to back and 10 inches deep, for a 36-inch base cabinet. The bottom slopes an inch toward the drain, and the drain is offset so it can go on the left or right, which leaves more room under the sink. The listing says the sink is cUPC certified by IAPMO.

Why we like it

  • Dual-tier ledges for accessories at two heights, per Ruvati
  • Board, colander, mixing bowl, drying rack and grid included
  • 10-inch-deep bowl with a sloped bottom
  • Offset drain frees space in the cabinet below

Key specifications

Model RVH8222
Material/gauge T-304 stainless steel, 16 gauge
Size & depth 33-1/2 x 19 inches, 10 inches deep
Bowl 31-7/8 x 14-5/8 x 10 inches
Mount Undermount
Minimum cabinet 36 inches
Accessories included Cutting board, platform with bowl and colander, 3-bowl board, drying rack, grid, drain
Sound pads/coating Not stated in this listing

Why we recommend it

It suits a cook who preps a lot at the sink, such as washing and cutting produce for salsa or pico, and wants the accessories to stay with the sink.

Skip it if you have a shallow front-to-back counter area; the 14-5/8-inch bowl is narrower than the Kraus’s, so check your widest pan.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • The most complete accessory set here
  • Two ledge levels for working over the bowl
  • Sloped bottom and offset drain

Cons

  • Narrower bowl front to back than our top pick
  • Sound padding not mentioned in this listing
  • More accessories to store and clean

3. Kohler Task 27-inch Top-/Undermount Workstation Sink – Fits Old or New Counters

Best drop-inKOHLER 80086-1PC-NA Task™ 27" Top-/Undermount Workstation Stainless Steel Kitchen Sink

Most of the sinks here are undermount only, which works with stone and quartz but not with a laminate counter that already has a drop-in sink cut into it. Kohler’s Task sink is sold as top-mount or undermount, so it can drop into an existing opening from above or sit below a new solid-surface counter. That makes it the practical choice when you are replacing a sink, not the whole kitchen.

Kohler lists a 27-inch sink with a 9-inch depth that needs a 30-inch base cabinet, with one faucet hole. It is a workstation design, and the kit includes a two-piece colander set, a bamboo cutting board, a silicone sink mat, a drain and strainer, and installation hardware. Kohler says the tightly angled corners give the bowl more usable space.

At 27 inches it is the smallest sink in our comparison table, and the listing does not give the inside bowl dimensions or the steel gauge. Measure your largest pot before you choose it, and check the cut-out size against your existing opening; a drop-in replacement only works if the new rim covers the old hole.

Why we like it

  • Installs as top-mount or undermount, per Kohler
  • Fits a 30-inch base cabinet
  • Colanders, bamboo board and silicone mat included
  • Single faucet hole for a modern pull-down faucet

Key specifications

Model 80086-1PC-NA
Material/gauge Stainless steel; gauge not stated
Size & depth 27 inches wide, 9 inches deep
Bowl Not stated
Mount Top-mount (drop-in) or undermount
Minimum cabinet 30 inches
Accessories included Two-piece colander set, bamboo board, silicone mat, drain and strainer
Sound pads/coating Not stated

Why we recommend it

It suits a kitchen with a 30-inch sink base or a drop-in counter, where most undermount sinks will not fit without new stone.

Skip it if you wash a very large stockpot often; a 27-inch, 9-inch-deep sink is the tightest fit here.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Works with drop-in or undermount installs
  • Smaller cabinet requirement
  • Workstation accessories included

Cons

  • Gauge and bowl dimensions not stated in the listing
  • Shallower and shorter than the 32- and 33-inch picks

4. Kraus Quarza 31-inch Granite Composite Sink – Stone Look, Dual Mount

Best granite compositeKraus KGD-412B Quarza Granite Kitchen Sink

Granite composite is a cast material of crushed stone and resin. Kraus says its Quarza sinks are made from 80 percent natural quartz and are non-porous, which it says makes them resistant to dirt and easy to wipe clean. The sink comes in black here, and the listing bundles it with the same roll-up drying rack, colander and trivet set as our top pick.

Kraus gives the overall size as 30.75 by 20.12 inches and 8.63 inches deep, with a bowl of 28.37 by 14.5 inches, a 3-1/2-inch drain opening and a 33-inch minimum cabinet. Note that the listing title says 31.5 inches while the dimension line says 30.75; go by the dimension line and the installation template when you plan the cut-out.

Like the Kohler, it is dual mount, so it can go in as an undermount or a drop-in sink. At 8.63 inches deep it is shallower than the 10-inch stainless bowls, which matters if you often soak a tall pot upright. Lay it on its side instead, and the 28-inch length has room.

Why we like it

  • Granite composite of 80 percent natural quartz, per Kraus
  • Installs as undermount or drop-in
  • Fits a 33-inch cabinet
  • Roll-up rack, colander and trivet bundled in this listing

Key specifications

Model KGD-412B (with KRM-10BLACK)
Material/gauge Granite composite (80% quartz); gauge not applicable
Size & depth 30.75 x 20.12 x 8.63 inches
Bowl 28.37 x 14.5 x 8.63 inches
Mount Undermount or drop-in
Minimum cabinet 33 inches
Accessories included Roll-up rack, colander, trivet
Sound pads/coating Not stated

Why we recommend it

It suits a kitchen that wants a dark, stone-colored sink instead of steel, and the flexibility to drop it in or mount it under.

Skip it if depth matters most; it is the shallowest sink in our comparison table.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Dual-mount installation
  • Non-porous composite, per Kraus
  • Smaller cabinet requirement than the 33-inch steel sinks

Cons

  • 8.63-inch depth
  • Listing title and dimension line disagree on width

5. ALFI 30-inch Fireclay Farmhouse Sink – Classic Apron, Made in Italy

Best fireclayALFI brand AB3018SB-W Smooth Solid Thick Wall Fireclay Single Bowl Farm Sink

Fireclay is clay fired at high temperature with a glaze, and it is the material behind the traditional white apron-front sink. ALFI says this one is made from high-grade fireclay that resists acids, alkalis, scratches and chipping, and that it is designed and made in Italy.

ALFI lists the sink at 30 by 18-1/8 by 10 inches, with an inner bowl of 27-1/8 by 15-3/8 inches and 8-1/2 inches deep, and a standard 3-1/2-inch center drain that ALFI says works with a garbage disposal. The warranty is one year against manufacturing defects and ten years against fading or staining of the glaze, per the listing.

A fireclay farmhouse sink is usually heavy, and the cabinet usually has to be built or modified to carry it and to frame the apron. Treat this as a job for a cabinet installer and a licensed plumber rather than a weekend swap. The listing does not include accessories, so plan on a bottom grid if you want to protect the glaze from cast iron and heavy pots.

Why we like it

  • Fireclay that ALFI says resists acids, scratches and chipping
  • Made in Italy, per ALFI
  • 10-year glaze warranty against fading or staining
  • Center drain compatible with a disposal

Key specifications

Model AB3018SB-W
Material/gauge Fireclay; gauge not applicable
Size & depth 30 x 18-1/8 x 10 inches
Bowl 27-1/8 x 15-3/8 x 8-1/2 inches
Mount Farmhouse (apron front)
Minimum cabinet Not stated
Accessories included Not stated
Sound pads/coating Glazed fireclay; no pads stated

Why we recommend it

It suits a kitchen planned around a white apron-front sink, where the look matters as much as the bowl.

Skip it if you want a simple swap; fireclay is heavy and the cabinet usually needs work before it goes in.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Classic glazed white fireclay
  • Long glaze warranty
  • Standard center drain

Cons

  • Heavy; needs cabinet support and professional fitting
  • No accessories listed
  • Bowl is 8-1/2 inches deep inside

6. Kraus Kore 33-inch Farmhouse Workstation Sink – Stainless Apron, Deep Bowl

Best stainless farmhouseKraus Kore 33-Inch Farmhouse Workstation with In Sink Dish Drying Rack

If you like the apron front but would rather have steel than fireclay, the Kraus Kore combines a flat stainless apron with a workstation ledge. Kraus lists the outside at 32-7/8 by 20-1/4 by 10-1/2 inches and the bowl at 31 by 16 by 10 inches, for a 36-inch cabinet.

The kit includes a bamboo cutting board, a roll-up dish rack, a protective bottom grid, a drain assembly with cover, hardware and a cut-out template. Kraus describes the steel as TRU16 16-gauge stainless with a satin finish, rounded bottom corners, a sloped bottom and channel grooves to move water to the drain. It installs as an undermount farmhouse sink, and Kraus lists a limited lifetime warranty.

With a 16-inch front-to-back bowl and 10 inches of depth, it is one of the roomiest bowls here, and the long 31-inch run takes a tamale steamer on its side with room to spare.

Why we like it

  • 31 by 16-inch bowl, 10 inches deep, per Kraus
  • 16-gauge stainless with a satin finish
  • Workstation ledge with board and roll-up rack
  • Limited lifetime warranty, per the listing

Key specifications

Model KWF410-33
Material/gauge Stainless steel, 16 gauge
Size & depth 32-7/8 x 20-1/4 x 10-1/2 inches
Bowl 31 x 16 x 10 inches
Mount Undermount farmhouse (apron front)
Minimum cabinet 36 inches
Accessories included Cutting board, roll-up rack, bottom grid, drain with cover, template
Sound pads/coating Not stated in this listing

Why we recommend it

It suits a farmhouse layout where you want a big steel bowl and a ledge for working over it.

Skip it if your cabinet is not built for an apron-front sink; retrofitting a standard base takes carpentry.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Large, deep bowl
  • Workstation ledge and accessories
  • Sloped bottom with drain grooves

Cons

  • Apron front needs a farmhouse cabinet
  • Sound padding not mentioned in this listing

7. Ruvati 28-inch Undermount Workstation Sink – Workstation for a 30-inch Base

Best for smaller cabinetsRuvati 28-in Stainless Steel Undermount Workstation Kitchen Sink - RVH8309

Not every kitchen has a 36-inch sink base. Ruvati’s RVH8309 fits a 30-inch cabinet and still gives a 10-inch-deep bowl. Ruvati lists the exterior at 28 by 19 inches and the bowl at 26-3/8 inches wide, 16 inches front to back and 10 inches deep, so it is shorter than the 33-inch sinks but just as deep and roomier front to back than its bigger sibling.

It is a single-tier workstation with ledges front and back. The box includes a solid sapele wood cutting board, a stainless steel colander, a foldable drying rack, a bottom rinse grid, a basket strainer drain, a decorative drain cover, a cut-out template and mounting brackets. Ruvati lists 16-gauge T-304 stainless steel and what it calls a soundproof coating of thick rubber padding, which it says also reduces condensation.

The 3-1/2-inch drain opening fits a standard garbage disposal, though Ruvati notes the disposal flange is not included. Ruvati says the sharp inside corners give the bowl a more modern look.

Why we like it

  • Fits a 30-inch base cabinet, per Ruvati
  • Bowl 16 inches front to back and 10 inches deep
  • Rubber sound padding stated in the listing
  • Board, colander, drying rack and grid included

Key specifications

Model RVH8309
Material/gauge T-304 stainless steel, 16 gauge
Size & depth 28 x 19 inches, 10 inches deep

Mount Undermount
Minimum cabinet 30 inches
Accessories included Wood board, colander, drying rack, grid, drain, cover
Sound pads/coating Thick rubber padding (per Ruvati)

Why we recommend it

It suits a smaller kitchen with a stone counter that still wants a deep, undivided bowl and a workstation ledge.

Skip it if your counter is laminate with an existing drop-in opening; this is undermount only.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Deep bowl for a 30-inch base
  • Sound padding stated
  • Useful accessory set

Cons

  • Shorter bowl than the 32- and 33-inch sinks
  • Disposal flange not included

8. Logmey 33-inch Farmhouse Workstation Sink – Shorter Apron for Retrofits

Short-apron farmhouseLogmey 33" Farmhouse Kitchen Sink Stainless Steel

Logmey’s farmhouse sink has an apron only 8 inches tall, which the listing points out is an inch shorter than the bowl. A shorter apron can make it easier to fit an apron-front sink into an existing cabinet, though you should still have an installer confirm the cut.

Logmey lists the sink at 33 by 21 by 9 inches overall, with a bowl of 31 by 17 by 8-3/4 inches, a rear 3-1/2-inch drain and a 36-inch minimum cabinet. It describes the steel as 16 gauge with a brushed finish, full-coverage sound-absorbing pads and a sloped bottom. The kit includes a drain assembly, bottom grid, drying rack, cutting board, colander, cut-out template and mounting hardware.

Logmey is a smaller brand than Kraus or Ruvati and publishes less detail about the steel grade, so it sits last here. On paper, though, its 17-inch front-to-back bowl ties our top pick for the widest here.

Why we like it

  • 8-inch apron for easier retrofits, per Logmey
  • 31 by 17-inch bowl
  • Sound-absorbing pads stated
  • Full workstation kit included

Key specifications

Model LMAS33219A1-1
Material/gauge Stainless steel, 16 gauge; grade not stated
Size & depth 33 x 21 x 9 inches
Bowl 31 x 17 x 8-3/4 inches
Mount Farmhouse (apron front), 8-inch apron
Minimum cabinet 36 inches
Accessories included Drain, grid, drying rack, cutting board, colander, template
Sound pads/coating Sound-absorbing pads (per Logmey)

Why we recommend it

It suits a cook who wants a stainless apron-front workstation and a wide bowl, and who is fitting it into an existing cabinet.

Skip it if you want a long-established brand with detailed published specs; Kraus and Ruvati document theirs more fully.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • 17-inch bowl front to back
  • Short apron height
  • Complete accessory kit

Cons

  • Steel grade not stated
  • Bowl is under 9 inches deep
  • Less maker detail published than for Kraus or Ruvati

How to choose a single-bowl sink for a busy kitchen

A sink is the one fixture you cannot return once it is cut into stone, so measure before you look at finishes. These are the factors that matter most.

Measure your biggest pot and your sheet pan

Write down the diameter and height of your largest stockpot, handles included, and the size of your sheet pan. A pozole pot or tamale steamer is usually too tall to stand upright under the faucet, so you will be washing it on its side; that needs bowl length more than depth. Compare those numbers with the inside bowl dimensions in each listing, not the outside size.

Depth: 9 to 10 inches is the useful range

A 10-inch bowl hides a stack of dishes and keeps splashing down when you rinse a big pot. Deeper is not always better if you are tall or short; a very deep bowl means more bending. The sinks here run from 8-1/2 to 10 inches inside.

A single stainless steel sink set into a gray stone counter with jars and bottles behind it
Stone and quartz counters suit undermount sinks.

Undermount, drop-in or farmhouse

Undermount sinks sit under a solid counter such as granite, quartz or solid surface, so you can wipe straight into the bowl. Drop-in (top-mount) sinks rest on the counter from above and work with laminate; they are the usual choice when you replace a sink without replacing the counter. Farmhouse sinks have an exposed apron front and need a cabinet built or modified for them. Dual-mount sinks like the Kohler Task and Kraus Quarza can go either way. Plumbing and counter work is regulated in many places, so hire a licensed plumber or installer where your local code requires it.

Material and gauge

Stainless steel is light, forgiving with heavy pots and does not chip. Its thickness is given as a gauge, and a lower number means thicker steel, so 16 gauge is heavier than 18 gauge. Granite composite looks like stone and comes in dark colors; fireclay is glazed ceramic with the classic white farmhouse look but is heavy. Only trust the gauge and material a listing actually states; where a listing is silent, we say so above.

Cabinet width and drain position

Every listing gives a minimum base cabinet width. Measure the inside of yours. Then look at the drain: an offset or rear drain, like Ruvati’s and Logmey’s, leaves more room under the sink for a trash pull-out or an under-sink organizer, and a 3-1/2-inch opening fits standard disposals.

Workstation or plain bowl

A workstation ledge lets a board, colander or rack slide across the bowl, which is handy if you prep vegetables at the sink. A plain bowl is simpler and leaves nothing to store. If you go plain, a roll-up rack or a dish rack beside the sink covers drying.

How we picked these eight sinks

We started with the brands most often sold for single-bowl kitchen sinks and checked each listing on Amazon for stock, model number and the specifications that matter: material and gauge as stated, overall and bowl dimensions, mounting type, minimum cabinet width and what comes in the box. We kept only sinks that were in stock when we checked, and dropped listings from sellers with no identifiable brand or with renders instead of product photos.

We did not install or use these sinks. Every number above comes from the maker’s listing, and where a listing leaves something out, such as the Kohler’s gauge or the ALFI’s cabinet size, we say “not stated” rather than guess. Some well-known options, including several Kraus Kore sizes, Elkay workstation sinks and Blanco Silgranit single bowls, were out of stock, scarce or available only by lead time when we checked, so they are not listed.

Single-bowl sink questions, answered

Is a single-bowl sink better than a double bowl?

For cooks who wash large pots, sheet pans and roasting pans, usually yes. One bowl gives you the full length of the sink with no divider in the way. A double bowl is handier if you like to wash in one side and rinse in the other, but neither side will take a big stockpot flat.

What size single-bowl sink do I need?

Start from your cabinet. A 36-inch base takes the 32- and 33-inch sinks here; a 30-inch base takes the Ruvati 28-inch and Kohler Task 27-inch. Then compare the inside bowl length and width to your biggest pot and pan.

How deep should a kitchen sink be?

Most of our picks are 9 to 10 inches deep, which is deep enough to keep splashing in check and hide dishes. If you have back trouble, a 9-inch bowl may be more comfortable than a 10-inch one.

Can I install a single-bowl sink myself?

Swapping a drop-in sink into an existing opening is within reach for some handy homeowners, but undermount and farmhouse sinks involve counter cutting, support brackets and plumbing changes. Use a licensed plumber or installer, especially where local codes require one.

What faucet goes with a single-bowl sink?

A tall pull-down faucet with a long reach makes a big single bowl easier to rinse, since you can aim the spray into the corners and fill a stockpot standing in the bowl. Our guide to the best kitchen faucet covers the options.

Our final pick for one big bowl

Buy the Kraus Standart PRO 32-inch sink if you have a stone counter and a 36-inch base and want the simplest deep bowl. Choose the Ruvati 33-inch workstation if you prep at the sink, the Kohler Task if you are dropping a new sink into an existing counter, the Kraus Quarza for a granite composite look, and the ALFI fireclay sink if a white apron front is the plan. Measure the pot first, then the cabinet, then shop.

A big bowl pays off on the days you steam tamales. If you are shopping for the pot itself, see our tamale steamer guide, and our guide to tamales explains what goes into them. For sponges and brushes that live by the sink, see the sink caddy picks.
