Pancakes Without the Splurge: The Best Value Electric Griddle

Eight entry-level electric griddles from Presto, Chefman, Hamilton Beach and more, and how to tell real value from a false economy.

A tall stack of pancakes topped with butter, blueberries and syrup on a white plate
A stack of pancakes with blueberries and syrup.

A plug-in griddle is one of the cheapest ways to add cooking space to a kitchen. A standard model, roughly 10 x 16 to 10 x 20 inches, cooks pancakes and eggs for a family, keeps a stack of tortillas warm, and turns quesadilla night into one batch instead of four. The basic design has barely changed in decades: a heated aluminum plate, a nonstick coating, a thermostat and a tray for grease.

That is why the entry models from established makers are often all a home kitchen needs. The extra you pay for in a premium griddle is usually size, a second heat zone, a lid or a heavier plate. This guide covers only the standard-size, entry-level griddles from identifiable brands, explains what you give up against the bigger models, and how to tell good value from a false economy. We do not list prices, because they change.

Quick verdict: the value griddle to buy

The best value electric griddle for most kitchens is the Presto 20-inch Cool Touch Electric Griddle: a 10 1/2 x 20-inch PFAS-free ceramic surface, a cool-touch base on three sides, a slide-out drip tray, and a plate you can immerse in the sink once the heat control is out. If you want a stated temperature range on the dial, the Chefman 10 x 16-inch griddle gives 200 to 420°F. If you want a grill and a griddle with two heat zones, choose the Hamilton Beach 3-in-1.

If you are cooking for a crowd, our guides to the best electric griddles and the best XL electric griddle cover the bigger and better-equipped models. None of the eight griddles below repeat their picks.

Our picks for the best value electric griddle

Every griddle here is a standard-size or entry model from a brand you can identify, plugs into a regular kitchen outlet and was in stock on Amazon when we checked. They differ in the coating, how the temperature is set, where the grease goes and how the plate gets clean, and each review ends with one honest reason to skip it.

1. Presto 20-inch Cool Touch Electric Griddle – Full Size, Cool Sides, Easy to Wash

Best overall valuePresto 07030 20-Inch Cool Touch Electric Griddle

Presto’s 07030 has been listed on Amazon since 2008 and is still the plain, dependable way into a full-size griddle. It gives you a 10 1/2 x 20-inch cooking surface, enough for a family breakfast or a row of quesadillas with tortillas warming at one end.

The surface is ceramic nonstick that Presto describes as PFAS-free. The base stays cool to the touch on the front and both sides, which matters on a crowded counter or a buffet table, and the low profile is designed for serving straight from the griddle. A backstop ledge helps when you slide a spatula under pancakes, and a slide-out drip tray catches grease.

Presto’s Control Master heat control holds the temperature you set automatically; the listing does not state the wattage or range. With the control removed, the whole griddle can be immersed in the sink. What you give up against Presto’s 22-inch models in our main guide is about two inches of length and removable handles.

Why we like it

  • 10 1/2 x 20-inch cooking surface (Presto)
  • PFAS-free ceramic nonstick (Presto)
  • Cool-touch base on three sides
  • Slide-out drip tray
  • Immersible with the control removed

Warranty Not clearly stated in listing

Why we recommend it

It suits a family that wants a full-size griddle from a maker with a long record, and plans to wash it in the sink.

Skip it if you want a numbered temperature dial. Presto’s control is marked for cooking tasks rather than giving a stated range in the listing.

  • Full 20-inch surface
  • Cool-touch base
  • Easy to wash
  • Long-running model

Cons

  • Wattage and range not stated

2. GreenLife 20-inch Ceramic Electric Griddle – PFAS-Free Coating, 1,500 Watts

Best ceramic coatingGreenLife 20" Extra Large Electric Griddle

GreenLife is a ceramic nonstick cookware brand, and its electric griddle brings that kind of coating to a plug-in plate. The cooking surface is 10.5 x 20 inches, heated by a 1,500-watt element, according to the listing.

GreenLife says the coating is made from sand and free of PFAS, PFOA, lead and cadmium, the most complete statement about the coating of any griddle here. A removable probe sets the temperature, stay-cool handles let you move it, and a removable drip tray slides out and goes in the dishwasher.

The listing does not state a temperature range or a warranty, and it does not say the plate itself can be immersed, so plan to wipe it clean. Ceramic coatings release food well when new and last longest with medium heat, a little oil, and wooden or silicone tools.

Why we like it

  • 10.5 x 20-inch surface
  • Coating free of PFAS, PFOA, lead and cadmium (GreenLife)
  • 1,500-watt element
  • Dishwasher-safe drip tray
  • Stay-cool handles

3. Chefman 10 x 16-inch Electric Griddle – A Numbered Dial and a Dishwasher-Safe Plate

Best for small kitchensChefman Electric Griddle with Removable Temperature Control

Chefman’s RJ23-SM-V3 is the standard-size sibling of the Chefman XL that closes our XL griddle guide. We include it because it is Chefman’s entry model and a better fit for a small kitchen: the cooking surface is 9.8 x 15.7 inches, so it leaves room on the counter.

The removable control is marked from 200 to 420°F, which makes it easy to repeat what worked last time: low for warming tortillas, medium for eggs and pancakes, high for bacon or a quick sear. Power is 1,200 watts at 120 volts, according to Chefman.

With the control removed, the griddle is fully immersible and dishwasher safe, and a drip tray collects grease. Chefman states UL approval and a one-year warranty. The 420°F top setting is lower than the hottest griddles, which matters for steak but not for breakfast or quesadillas.

Why we like it

  • Stated 200–420°F range
  • Immersible and dishwasher safe (Chefman)
  • Compact 9.8 x 15.7-inch surface
  • UL approved (listing)
  • One-year warranty

Key specifications

Model RJ23-SM-V3
Cooking surface 9.8 x 15.7 in
Power 1,200 W, 120 V
Heat control Removable control, 200–420°F
Coating Nonstick (type not stated)
Grease and serving Drip tray
Cleaning Immersible, dishwasher-safe
Warranty 1 year

Why we recommend it

It suits an apartment kitchen or a cook for two or three who wants a numbered dial and a plate that goes in the dishwasher.

Skip it if you cook for five or more. A 16-inch plate means cooking in batches.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Clear temperature range
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Small footprint
  • Stated warranty

Cons

  • Smaller surface
  • 1,200 W, lower than full-size models
  • Coating type not stated

4. Hamilton Beach 3-in-1 Grill and Griddle – Two Zones, Reversible Plates

Best two-zoneHamilton Beach 3-in-1 Electric Indoor Grill + Electric Griddle

Hamilton Beach’s 38546 is two appliances for the price of one plug. It has two reversible plates, smooth on one side for griddling and ridged on the other for grilling, so you can set it up as a full griddle, a full grill, or half and half.

Each half is its own cooking zone with its own heat control, adjustable up to 425°F, powered by 1,400 watts in total. That makes it the only griddle here that can hold two temperatures at once: eggs and tortillas gently on one side, chorizo or steak for fajitas hotter on the other.

The total cooking surface is 180 square inches, smaller than a 10 x 20 griddle, and the plates are PFAS-free nonstick, according to the listing. Both plates are dishwasher safe and the drip tray goes on the top rack. Hamilton Beach gives a one-year warranty.

Why we like it

  • Two independent heat zones
  • Reversible grill and griddle plates
  • Up to 425°F (Hamilton Beach)
  • Dishwasher-safe plates and drip tray
  • PFAS-free nonstick (listing)

Key specifications

Model 38546
Cooking surface 180 sq in
Power 1,400 W
Heat control Two zones, each adjustable up to 425°F
Coating PFAS-free nonstick (listing)
Grease and serving Drip tray
Cleaning Plates dishwasher-safe; tray top rack
Warranty 1 year

Why we recommend it

It suits a cook who wants grill marks on fajita meat and a flat surface for tortillas without buying two appliances.

Skip it if you mostly make pancakes for a crowd. At 180 square inches it holds less than a full 10 x 20 griddle.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Two temperatures at once
  • Grill and griddle in one
  • Dishwasher-safe plates
  • Stated warranty

Cons

  • Smaller total surface
  • More parts to store
  • Lower wattage than full-size griddles

5. Amazon Basics 10 x 20-inch Electric Griddle – Plate Lifts Off for the Dishwasher

Best dishwasher-safe plateAmazon Basics Electric Griddle with Nonstick Ceramic Coating

Amazon’s own griddle, model AB-203GR, gives you a 10 x 20-inch flat ceramic-coated surface. Its selling point is cleanup: the cooking plate detaches from the base, and both the plate and the drip tray are dishwasher safe, according to the listing.

A removable probe sets the temperature from 200 to 400°F, and deep channels around the plate steer grease into the removable tray. The listing does not state the wattage or the warranty.

It is a newer model, released in late 2025, so it has a shorter record than the Presto, and Amazon Basics is a house brand rather than an appliance maker with its own parts and service network. If cleanup is what puts you off using a griddle, though, a plate that goes straight in the dishwasher is a real advantage.

Why we like it

  • Detachable, dishwasher-safe plate
  • 10 x 20-inch surface
  • Stated 200–400°F range
  • Grease channels to the drip tray

Key specifications

Model AB-203GR
Cooking surface 10 x 20 in
Power Not stated
Heat control Removable probe, 200–400°F
Coating Ceramic nonstick
Grease and serving Grease channels; removable drip tray
Cleaning Plate and tray dishwasher-safe
Warranty Not stated

Why we recommend it

It suits a busy household that wants a full-size griddle and the easiest possible washing up.

Skip it if you want a maker with a long track record and stated warranty. Presto and Chefman state theirs more clearly.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Plate goes in the dishwasher
  • Full 20-inch length
  • Clear temperature range

Cons

  • New model
  • Wattage and warranty not stated
  • House brand, not an appliance maker

6. Presto 16-inch Cool Touch Electric Griddle – Compact and Warp-Resistant

Best compact PrestoPresto 07047 16-Inch Cool Touch Electric Griddle

The 07047 is the smaller sibling of our top pick: the same cool-touch base, PFAS-free ceramic surface and Control Master heat control, on a 10 1/2 x 16-inch cooking area. If the 20-inch model would crowd your counter, this is the one to look at.

Presto builds it on a heavy cast aluminum base that it describes as virtually warp-proof, which is worth having in a griddle you expect to keep for years. A backstop ledge helps with flipping, and the low profile works for serving at the table.

Like the bigger model, it is fully immersible once the heat control is removed. Presto states a one-year limited warranty for this model. The listing does not mention a drip tray, so check the product photos before you buy if that matters to you.

Why we like it

  • 10 1/2 x 16-inch surface
  • Heavy cast aluminum base (Presto)
  • PFAS-free ceramic nonstick (Presto)
  • Cool-touch base
  • One-year limited warranty

Key specifications

Cleaning Immersible with control removed
Warranty 1 year limited

Why we recommend it

It suits a small household that likes Presto’s design but needs a griddle that fits a smaller counter or cabinet.

Skip it if you cook for a family. The 20-inch Presto holds a full breakfast in one go.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Compact
  • Warp-resistant base
  • Easy to wash
  • Stated warranty

Cons

  • Smaller surface
  • Wattage and range not stated
  • Drip tray not mentioned

7. BELLA 10 x 16-inch Ceramic Copper Titanium Griddle – Seven Settings on a Small Plate

Best small ceramicbella Griddle Ceramic Copper TI

BELLA’s 14960C is the entry model in its ceramic griddle range and the 10 x 16-inch counterpart to the BELLA XL in our XL griddle guide; we include it because it is the small, entry-level size of that line. The surface is a ceramic coating reinforced with titanium that BELLA says contains no lead or cadmium.

An adjustable knob gives seven temperature settings, the handle stays cool, and four non-marking feet protect the counter. The drip tray is dishwasher safe, and the listing describes the cooking surface as submersible.

BELLA claims the coating is eight times more durable and cooks up to 30% faster than standard nonstick; those are the maker’s own comparisons. The listing does not state wattage, the temperatures behind the seven settings, or a warranty.

Why we like it

  • Ceramic coating, no lead or cadmium (BELLA)
  • Seven temperature settings
  • Dishwasher-safe drip tray
  • Stay-cool handle, non-marking feet

Key specifications

Model 14960C

Why we recommend it

It suits a small kitchen that wants a ceramic surface from an established small-appliance brand.

Skip it if you need to know exact temperatures. The seven settings are not tied to degrees in the listing.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Ceramic coating
  • Compact
  • Dishwasher-safe tray

Cons

  • Durability claims are BELLA’s own
  • Wattage and temperatures not stated
  • Warranty not stated

8. Starfrit The Rock 19 x 13-inch Electric Griddle – A Deeper Plate With a Grease Channel

Best for family sizeStarfrit The Rock Electric Griddle

Starfrit, a housewares brand, builds The Rock griddle on a 19 x 13-inch cast aluminum plate. That is deeper front to back than a typical 10 x 20 griddle, which makes it easier to cook two rows of food, say pancakes in front and bacon behind.

The plate has Starfrit’s Rock.Tec nonstick treatment, heated by a 1,500-watt element with variable temperature control. A grease channel leads to a removable drip tray, and cool-touch handles make it easy to carry to the table.

Starfrit states a one-year limited warranty with proof of purchase. The listing does not give the temperature range or say whether the plate can be immersed, so clean it by wiping once it has cooled.

Why we like it

  • 19 x 13-inch cast aluminum plate
  • 1,500-watt element
  • Grease channel and drip tray
  • Cool-touch handles
  • One-year limited warranty

Key specifications

Model 024402-002-0000

Grease and serving Grease channel; removable drip tray
Cleaning Not stated as immersible
Warranty 1 year limited, proof of purchase

Why we recommend it

It suits a family that wants a deeper plate and full 1,500-watt heat from a maker that states its warranty.

Skip it if you want to wash the whole griddle in the sink. The listing does not say it is immersible.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Deep plate
  • Full 1,500 W
  • Grease channel
  • Stated warranty

Cons

  • Range not stated
  • Not stated as immersible
  • Coating type not detailed

How to tell a good value griddle from a false economy

An entry-level griddle is good value when it heats reliably, cleans easily and lasts. These are the points worth checking before you buy.

1. What you give up against the premium models

The griddles in our main electric griddle guide add things like a lid, a cast iron plate, a 22-inch surface or a tilting base. Most entry models give you a single heat zone and a coated aluminum plate. For pancakes, eggs, quesadillas and warming tortillas, that is all you need; for a hard sear or a crowd, it may not be.

2. Size against your counter and your family

A 10 x 16-inch plate suits two or three people and stores easily. A 10 x 20-inch plate suits a family of four or five. Measure the counter and the cabinet before you buy; the griddle is wider than its cooking surface once you add handles and the control.

3. Power and temperature control

Full-size griddles usually run about 1,500 watts; smaller ones, like the Chefman at 1,200, heat a smaller plate. A dial with stated temperatures (Chefman, Amazon Basics, Hamilton Beach) is easier to repeat than one marked by task. Whatever you buy, preheat fully and test with one small pancake first.

4. Cleaning

Cleaning decides whether a griddle gets used. Check whether the plate is immersible once the control is out (Presto, Chefman), dishwasher safe (Chefman, Amazon Basics, Hamilton Beach), or wipe-clean only. A slide-out drip tray is easier to empty than a ledge.

5. Warranty, parts and the maker

A griddle with a stated warranty from an established maker, such as Presto, Hamilton Beach, Chefman or Starfrit, is easier to get help with than one from an unknown seller. The heat control or probe is a small, separate part that is easy to misplace, so it is worth checking whether the maker sells replacements before you buy.

6. The coating

Most entry griddles are ceramic nonstick, and several makers describe theirs as PFAS-free. Ceramic releases food well when new but wears faster under high heat and metal tools. Use wooden, silicone or nylon utensils and medium heat to make any of them last.

How we picked these eight value griddles

We looked for the entry or standard-size model in each identifiable maker’s plug-in griddle range, in stock on Amazon when we checked, and left out every model already reviewed in our main electric griddle guide and our XL griddle guide. Two picks, the Chefman 10 x 16 and the BELLA 10 x 16, are smaller sizes of lines that appear in the XL guide, chosen because they are the entry sizes of those ranges. We included one Amazon-first brand (Amazon Basics) and skipped little-known sellers and models in short supply, such as BLACK+DECKER’s GD1810BC and Elite Gourmet’s 10 x 20 griddle. Specifications come from the makers’ Amazon listings, and we mark makers’ own claims as theirs. We have not cooked on these griddles, and we do not state prices. We checked the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall listings for these brands and found no recall of any griddle on this page.

Value griddle questions, answered

What is the best electric griddle on a tight budget?

For a full-size plate, the Presto 20-inch Cool Touch. For a small kitchen, the Chefman 10 x 16, which also gives you a numbered temperature dial and a dishwasher-safe plate.

What do you give up with a cheaper electric griddle?

Usually size, a second heat zone, a lid and a heavier plate. The cooking itself, for pancakes, eggs, bacon and quesadillas, is much the same. The Hamilton Beach 3-in-1 is the exception on this page, with two zones at an entry-level position in its maker’s range.

Is a ceramic griddle worth choosing over standard nonstick?

Ceramic coatings are often described as PFAS-free and release food well, but they tend to wear faster if overheated. If a clearly stated coating matters to you, GreenLife gives the most complete statement here. Either way, avoid metal utensils.

Can you warm tortillas on an electric griddle?

Yes. Set it to medium, lay the tortillas flat and turn them once they puff or show light spots. A griddle holds more at once than a single comal. For the real thing on the stove, see our guide to the best comal for tortillas.

Will an electric griddle trip a breaker?

A 1,200 to 1,500-watt griddle is within what a standard 120-volt kitchen outlet supplies, but running a kettle or toaster on the same circuit at the same time can trip it. Give the griddle its own outlet while it heats.

Our final pick for an everyday griddle

Choose the Presto 20-inch Cool Touch for the most dependable full-size value, the GreenLife if the coating matters most, the Chefman for a small kitchen and a clear temperature dial, and the Hamilton Beach 3-in-1 for two zones and grill plates. The Amazon Basics is the easiest to clean, the Presto 16-inch and BELLA suit small households, and the Starfrit gives you a deeper plate.

For a griddle that sits across two burners instead of plugging in, see the best pancake griddle pan; for a restaurant-grade flat-top, the best commercial griddle. Our guide on how to eat fajitas covers what to cook on it.
