How to Choose the Best Budget Vacuum Sealer: Eight Entry Machines

Entry edge sealers from FoodSaver, Nesco, Weston, Cuisinart and more, what you give up for less, and why vacuum sealing is not preservation on its own.

Overhead view of dumplings in a metal tray beside clear plastic containers of noodles and other prepared foods
Prepared food portioned into trays and containers.

A vacuum sealer earns its place when you buy meat in bulk, portion a big pot of beans or freeze a batch of chile sauce. You do not need a large machine with a liquid sensor and a fan-cooled motor for that. The small edge sealers at the bottom of each maker’s range pull air out of a textured bag and melt a seal across the top, which is the job most home freezers need done.

This guide covers only the entry tier: compact edge sealers from FoodSaver, Nesco, Weston, Cuisinart and NutriChef, plus two Amazon-first brands, Bonsenkitchen and Mesliese. We do not quote prices, because they change daily. Instead each pick explains what you get, what you give up against the machines in our main best vacuum sealer guide, and what the warranty says.

Quick verdict: which budget vacuum sealer to buy

For most kitchens, the best budget vacuum sealer is the FoodSaver PowerVac Compact: it has dry and moist settings, stands on end to save counter space and works with every FoodSaver bag, roll and handheld accessory. If you want a roll and cutter built in, the Nesco VS-02 stores both inside the machine and has a seal-only switch for soft foods. For the most control at the entry level, the Weston 65-3001-W adds two vacuum levels, an extended seal and a pulse button.

The table compares the five standouts, one for each kind of buyer. All eight picks are reviewed in full below it.

Our picks for the best budget vacuum sealer

These eight are all edge sealers: the open end of a textured bag sits in a channel, the pump pulls the air out and a heated strip melts the seal. They cover the ways people save money on vacuum sealing: the entry machine from a big bag-and-accessory system, plain one-touch machines, a model with more settings than its size suggests, drawer-sized sealers and two Amazon-first brands that lead on warranty. Each pick ends with one honest reason to skip it.

1. FoodSaver PowerVac Compact Vacuum Sealer – Stands Upright, Fits the FoodSaver System

Best overallFoodSaver PowerVac Compact Vacuum Sealing Machine Stainless Steel & Black Vertical Storage VS0150

The PowerVac Compact is the small, upright machine in FoodSaver’s countertop range. According to the listing it stores vertically to save counter space, has separate dry and moist settings, and has a built-in alignment tray that helps you place the bag correctly before the lid closes.

The value argument is the system around it. FoodSaver says the machine works with all of its bags, rolls and accessories, and it can connect to a FoodSaver handheld sealer (sold separately) for zipper bags and containers. FoodSaver bags and rolls are some of the easiest to find, which matters more over the life of a sealer than the machine itself. The listing also says the design seals with 35 percent less bag waste than earlier FoodSaver models, which means less roll trimmed off and thrown away each time.

What you give up compared with the FoodSaver FM2100 in our main guide is the built-in roll storage and cutter. You cut bags from the included 11-inch roll with scissors and seal one end first. FoodSaver also sells the same machine in white as the Compact VS0100; the black stainless PowerVac is the one we link because the listing describes it more fully.

Why we like it

  • Dry and moist settings, per the listing
  • Stores upright to save counter space
  • Works with all FoodSaver bags, rolls and accessories
  • Comes with an 11-inch roll plus quart and gallon bags

Key specifications

Model VS0150 PowerVac
Bag width Takes 11-inch FoodSaver rolls
Suction Not stated
Modes Dry, moist
Cutter and roll storage No
Accessory port Connects to FoodSaver handheld sealer (sold separately)
In the box One 11-inch x 8-foot roll, 3 quart bags, 2 gallon bags
Warranty Not stated in listing

Why we recommend it

It suits a home cook who wants a dependable, small sealer from the brand with the widest choice of bags, rolls and add-ons, and who seals a few bags at a time rather than a whole deer.

Skip it if you want to cut bags from a roll inside the machine; the Nesco VS-02 and the Weston below both store a roll and a cutter.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Small upright footprint
  • Separate dry and moist settings
  • Large range of compatible FoodSaver bags and accessories

Cons

  • No built-in roll storage or cutter
  • Suction and warranty not stated in the listing
  • Handheld accessory sealer sold separately

2. Nesco VS-02 Vacuum Sealer – Roll Storage and Cutter Built In

Best with roll storageNESCO VS-02 Food Starter Kit with Automatic Shut-Off and Vacuum Sealer Bags

The VS-02 is the long-running starter model in Nesco’s vacuum sealer line, and it includes the feature most cheap machines leave out: the listing describes built-in storage for rolls and bags and a bag cutter, so you can pull out the length you need, cut it and seal it without hunting for scissors.

Nesco gives it a 110-watt piston pump, fully automatic one-touch operation and automatic shut-off. A separate seal-only switch lets you stop the vacuum early so it does not crush bread, tortillas or soft fruit, then seal the bag by hand. The vacuum channel takes bags up to 11.8 inches wide.

The kit is generous for an entry machine: two 7.9-inch rolls, five quart bags and five gallon bags, per the listing. Nesco states a one-year warranty. What you give up against the Nesco Deluxe VS-12 in our main guide is the double pump, the gentle and moist settings and the viewing lid; the VS-02 does one job with one button and a seal-only switch.

Why we like it

  • Built-in roll and bag storage with a cutter
  • Seal-only switch to avoid crushing soft foods
  • Automatic shut-off
  • Rolls, quart and gallon bags included

Key specifications

Model VS-02
Bag width Up to 11.8 inches
Suction 110 W piston pump (vacuum level not stated)
Modes Vacuum and seal, seal only
Cutter and roll storage Yes, both
Accessory port Not stated
In the box Two 7.9-inch x 9.8-foot rolls, 5 quart bags, 5 gallon bags
Warranty 1 year

Why we recommend it

It suits anyone who wants to make custom-length bags from a roll, which is the cheapest way to buy bags over time, without stepping up to a bigger machine.

Skip it if you seal a lot of wet food; it has no moist setting, so you will need to pre-freeze soups and marinades first.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Roll storage and cutter in the machine
  • Simple one-touch operation with auto shut-off
  • Large starter kit

Cons

  • No moist or pulse mode
  • Included rolls are the narrower 7.9-inch width
  • Larger footprint than the drawer-sized picks

3. Weston 11-Inch Vacuum Sealer with Roll Storage – Five Settings in a Small Body

Most settingsWeston Vacuum Sealer Machine for Food With Powerful 22.5" Hg Pump

Weston is better known for its large Pro-series sealers, and this 11-inch model (65-3001-W) is near the bottom of its range. It still gives you more control than anything else on this page. The listing describes digital controls for vacuum and seal or seal only, high and low vacuum levels, normal and extended seal times, and a pulse button for delicate items such as pretzels or cookies.

The low vacuum level and pulse matter for a Mexican kitchen: they let you seal stacked tortillas, bolillos or a tray of tamales before freezing without pressing them flat. The extended seal time helps when the bag mouth is slightly damp.

Weston builds roll storage into the machine with a built-in cutter, and the lid locks in place to keep the roll clean. The pump is rated at 22.5 inches of mercury (Hg) and 110 watts, and the machine seals bags up to 11 inches wide. What you give up against the Weston Pro-2300 in our main guide is the extra-wide 15-inch bar, the fan-cooled motor and the ability to seal bag after bag without a rest.

Why we like it

  • High and low vacuum levels, per the listing
  • Normal and extended seal times
  • Pulse button for delicate foods
  • Roll storage with a built-in cutter and locking lid

Key specifications

Model 65-3001-W
Bag width Up to 11 inches
Suction 22.5 in Hg, 110 W
Modes Vacuum and seal, seal only, high/low vacuum, normal/extended seal, pulse
Cutter and roll storage Yes, both
Accessory port Not stated
In the box Starter pack (contents not stated)
Warranty Not stated in listing

Why we recommend it

It suits a cook who seals a mix of sturdy and fragile foods and wants to adjust the vacuum and seal instead of trusting one automatic cycle.

Skip it if you want the simplest machine possible; five settings mean more buttons to learn than the one-touch picks.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Most adjustable machine on this page
  • Stated pump strength
  • Roll storage and cutter

Cons

  • Starter pack contents and warranty not stated in the listing
  • No accessory port mentioned
  • 11-inch maximum bag width

4. Cuisinart Compact Vacuum Sealer – Fits in a Kitchen Drawer

Best for small kitchensCuisinart Compact Vacuum Sealer Machine

Cuisinart’s compact sealer (VS-1314) is built around one idea: it should disappear when you are not using it. The listing says it is 15 inches wide and fits in a standard silverware or kitchen drawer, which is the main reason to choose it over a machine that has to live on the counter.

It still covers the basics. Push buttons give you Vacuum and Seal, Seal, and Pulse, and the built-in cutter lets you make custom-length bags from a roll. Cuisinart’s advice for moist foods is to use Pulse and stop before liquid reaches the machine, which is the same approach any edge sealer needs.

The starter kit is useful: ten pre-cut 11 x 11-inch bags and one 11-inch x 20-foot roll, which Cuisinart says are reusable and suitable for the freezer, refrigerator, microwave reheating and sous vide. What you give up is roll storage (the cutter is there, but the roll is not stored in the machine), and the listing does not state vacuum strength or a warranty term.

Why we like it

  • 15 inches wide, sized for a drawer, per the listing
  • Vacuum and Seal, Seal and Pulse controls
  • Built-in bag cutter
  • Ten bags and a 20-foot roll included

Key specifications

Model VS-1314
Bag width Takes 11-inch bags and rolls
Suction Not stated
Modes Vacuum and seal, seal, pulse
Cutter and roll storage Cutter; roll storage not stated
Accessory port Not stated
In the box 10 pre-cut 11 x 11-inch bags, one 11-inch x 20-foot roll
Warranty Not stated in listing

Why we recommend it

It suits apartment kitchens and anyone who seals now and then and wants the machine out of sight between uses.

Skip it if you seal large batches; a drawer-sized sealer is not built for long sessions, and the listing gives no pump or duty details.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Small enough to store in a drawer
  • Pulse control for soft or moist foods
  • Generous bag and roll starter kit

Cons

  • Suction and warranty not stated
  • No moist setting beyond manual pulse
  • New listing with little buyer history so far

5. Nesco VS-74S Vacuum Sealer – A Soft Vacuum for Fragile Foods

Best for delicate foodsNESCO VS-74S Vacuum Sealer Machine – 3 Modes

The VS-74S is Nesco’s newer compact model, and its standout is a soft vacuum mode. The listing describes three settings: vacuum seal, soft vacuum for fragile or delicate foods, and seal only. Where the VS-02 asks you to watch the bag and press a switch, the soft mode does the gentler pull for you.

Nesco is unusually specific about the numbers. It states 60 kPa of suction (plus or minus 5) at 3.8 liters per minute, and a 30-centimeter (about 11.8-inch) sealing strip that takes bags 0.1 to 0.19 mm thick. There is a built-in cutter, an external port for vacuum canisters and cord storage in the slim plastic housing.

The kit includes 20 bags in two sizes, ten medium and ten large. What you give up is pump strength: 60 kPa is lower than the figures quoted for some machines on this page, so expect slower, gentler vacuuming. The listing does not state a warranty term.

Why we like it

  • Soft vacuum mode for delicate foods
  • Stated suction and airflow figures
  • External canister port
  • 20 bags in two sizes included

Key specifications

Model VS-74S
Bag width Up to 30 cm (about 11.8 inches)
Suction 60 ±5 kPa, 3.8 L/min
Modes Vacuum seal, soft vacuum, seal only
Cutter and roll storage Cutter; roll storage not stated
Accessory port Yes, for canisters
In the box 10 medium (22 x 30 cm) and 10 large (28 x 40 cm) bags
Warranty Not stated in listing

Why we recommend it

It suits cooks who freeze bread, tortillas, berries or cooked tamales and want a gentle setting without timing a pulse button by hand.

Skip it if you mostly seal raw meat in bulk; a stronger pump such as the Weston’s will draw tighter bags faster.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Automatic soft vacuum
  • Clear, stated specifications
  • Canister port and cord storage

Cons

  • Lower stated suction than some picks
  • No moist setting
  • Warranty not stated

6. NutriChef Automatic Vacuum Sealer – One Button and a Wine Stopper

Simplest controlsNutriChef Automatic Vacuum Air Sealing System for Food Preservation with Starter Kit

NutriChef’s PKVS18BK is about as plain as a vacuum sealer gets. The listing describes a fully automatic, one-button design with soft-touch LED controls and a switch between dry and moist modes. Place the bag, close the lid, press the button.

The housing is slim, at 14.1 x 6.0 x 3.0 inches according to the listing, and the smooth plastic wipes clean. The starter kit includes reusable seal bags, an air suction hose and a wine stopper, so you can also pull air out of compatible canisters and an opened bottle of wine.

NutriChef states a one-year manufacturer warranty. What you give up against larger machines is any roll storage or cutter, a pulse control and stated suction. Bag size and count in the kit are not listed, so plan on buying bags or a roll separately.

Why we like it

  • One-button automatic operation
  • Dry and moist modes
  • Hose and wine stopper included
  • One-year warranty stated in the listing

Key specifications

Model PKVS18BK
Bag width Not stated (body 14.1 inches long)
Suction Not stated
Modes Dry, moist
Cutter and roll storage No
Accessory port Yes, with air suction hose
In the box Reusable bags (count not stated), hose, wine stopper
Warranty 1 year

Why we recommend it

It suits occasional sealers who want the fewest decisions possible and like the idea of using the same machine for canisters and wine.

Skip it if you seal soft foods often; there is no pulse or gentle setting to stop the vacuum early.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Very simple to use
  • Slim body
  • Accessory hose included

Cons

  • No pulse or seal-only control mentioned
  • No cutter or roll storage
  • Bag width and kit contents not fully stated

7. Bonsenkitchen Compact Vacuum Sealer – Small Body, Three-Year Commitment

Most compactBonsenkitchen Vacuum Sealer Machine for Food Storage

Bonsenkitchen is an Amazon-first brand, and the VS1800 is the entry machine in its sealer range. The listing gives it a 12.99 x 4.67-inch footprint, the smallest stated on this page, with built-in cord storage so it fits easily in a cabinet.

It has four modes: Vac Seal for dry foods, Pulse to control suction by hand for bread and juicy fruit, Seal Only, and Accessory for jars and canisters. Bonsenkitchen states 65 kPa of suction and a heating element 0.14 inches wide and 11.8 inches long. The kit includes five 8 x 12-inch bags, an accessory hose and two external interfaces.

The value case is the service promise: Bonsenkitchen offers what it calls a three-year quality commitment, with refund or replacement. That is a seller commitment rather than a long-established maker’s warranty, so keep your order details. What you give up is a cutter and roll storage, and the five-bag kit is small.

Why we like it

  • Smallest stated footprint on this page
  • Pulse, seal-only and accessory modes
  • Stated 65 kPa suction
  • Three-year quality commitment, per the listing

Key specifications

Model VS1800-V1
Bag width 11.8-inch heating element
Suction 65 kPa
Modes Vac seal, pulse, seal only, accessory
Cutter and roll storage No
Accessory port Yes, hose and 2 interfaces
In the box 5 pre-cut 8 x 12-inch bags
Warranty 3-year quality commitment

Why we recommend it

It suits small kitchens, RVs and anyone who wants pulse control in the smallest body possible.

Skip it if you prefer buying from a long-established appliance maker with a parts network; pick the FoodSaver or Nesco instead.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Very compact with cord storage
  • Four modes including pulse
  • Three-year commitment stated

Cons

  • Amazon-first brand
  • No cutter or roll storage
  • Only five bags included

8. Mesliese Compact Vacuum Sealer – A Five-Year Warranty

Longest stated warrantyMesliese Vacuum Sealer Machine Compact One-Touch Automatic

Mesliese is the second Amazon-first brand here, and its compact VS2209 stands out on paper for the warranty: the listing states a five-year warranty with 24/7 customer support, longer than any other machine on this page.

The specifications are clear. Mesliese states 75 kPa of suction, 110 watts of rated power and a sealing time of 4 to 11 seconds. There are four modes: Vac and Seal, Pulse, External Vacuum System and Seal. A built-in steel cutter and a bag stopper inside the vacuum channel help you line up bags quickly, and Mesliese says the curved channel is easy to wipe clean.

The body measures 15.94 x 3.94 x 2.42 inches, so it stores in a cabinet or deep drawer. The kit includes a vacuum hose and ten bags in two sizes. What you give up is roll storage and a stated moist mode beyond Pulse, and as with any Amazon-first brand, a long warranty is only as useful as the seller’s support behind it.

Why we like it

  • Five-year warranty stated in the listing
  • Stated 75 kPa suction and 110 W
  • Built-in steel cutter and bag stopper
  • External vacuum for jars and canisters

Key specifications

Model VS2209
Bag width Not stated
Suction 75 kPa, 110 W
Modes Vac and seal, pulse, external vacuum, seal
Cutter and roll storage Cutter; no roll storage
Accessory port Yes, hose included
In the box 5 bags 6 x 8 inches, 5 bags 8 x 12 inches, hose
Warranty 5 years

Why we recommend it

It suits buyers who weigh the warranty above the brand name and want a compact machine with a cutter and pulse control.

Skip it if you want a machine whose bags and parts you can find in any store; FoodSaver and Nesco are easier to support long term.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Longest stated warranty here
  • Clear suction and power figures
  • Cutter and external vacuum

Cons

  • Amazon-first brand
  • Maximum bag width not stated
  • No roll storage

How to judge value in a cheap vacuum sealer

The cheapest machine is not always the best value. A sealer you can buy bags for anywhere, that seals your common foods without fuss and that the maker will stand behind, will cost less over its life than one that fails or needs special bags. These are the points that matter.

Bags and rolls cost more than the machine over time

Every edge sealer on this page needs textured, embossed vacuum bags; smooth zipper bags will not vacuum. Rolls you cut to length waste less than pre-cut bags, which is why a built-in cutter, like the Nesco VS-02’s and the Weston’s, pays off. Check that the machine takes standard 11-inch rolls so you are not tied to one brand. Our vacuum seal bags guide covers rolls and pre-cut bags in detail.

A way to stop the vacuum

A pulse button, seal-only switch or soft mode lets you stop before the pump crushes tortillas, bread, cooked tamales or berries. Machines without one, like the NutriChef, will press everything as flat as the pump can manage.

Moist settings help, but only a little

A moist mode lengthens the seal so a damp bag mouth still closes, but an edge sealer still pulls liquid toward the pump. For salsas, soups, mole and marinades, freeze them flat in the bag first, or see our vacuum sealer for wet foods guide.

Warranty and who stands behind it

Established makers such as Nesco and NutriChef state a one-year warranty in their listings; Bonsenkitchen and Mesliese offer longer commitments as Amazon-first sellers. A long promise from a seller is worth something, but so is a maker with replacement gaskets, bags and service that will still be around in five years. Where a listing does not state a warranty, we say so.

Size and storage

If the sealer will live in a drawer, the Cuisinart, Bonsenkitchen and Mesliese are the smallest here. If it stays out on the counter, a machine with roll storage saves more time than it costs in space.

Small balls of dough sitting on sheets of plastic wrap on a stainless steel counter
Dough portioned and wrapped on a work counter.

What you give up compared with full-size sealers

The machines in our main guide cost more for clear reasons: stronger or double pumps, wider seal bars, fan cooling so you can seal many bags in a row, built-in liquid handling, and in the case of chamber machines, the ability to seal soups without freezing them first. Entry sealers usually need a short rest between bags and work best a few bags at a time. If you process a whole hog or a deer each year, a chamber vacuum sealer or a full-size edge sealer is the better buy. For freezing a week of meal prep, a brisket in portions or a big batch of beans, an entry machine does the same core job.

Vacuum sealing is not food preservation on its own

This is the most important thing to know before you buy any sealer. Taking the air out of a bag slows freezer burn and staling, but it does not make perishable food safe at room temperature. Oregon State University Extension says vacuum packaging “is also not a substitute for refrigerating or freezing food that would otherwise require it.” UConn Extension adds that perishable vacuum-packed foods “cannot be safely stored at room temperature” and that home vacuum sealers are not a substitute for the heat processing used in home canning.

The reason is that some harmful bacteria, including Clostridium botulinum, grow without oxygen, and Oregon State notes that the spoilage bacteria that would normally warn you are not active in a sealed bag, so unsafe food can look and smell fine. Keep vacuum-packed meat, cheese, cooked beans, salsas and leftovers in the refrigerator or freezer, and thaw frozen bags in the refrigerator. UConn recommends opening the package to let some air in before thawing. For reheating, our guide on how to reheat Mexican leftovers has the details.

How we chose these eight budget sealers

We started from each well-known maker’s sealer range and picked its entry machine or a basic compact model, then checked that each one was in stock on Amazon when we wrote this. We limited Amazon-first brands to two and chose the two with the clearest specifications and warranty terms. Specifications come from the makers’ Amazon listings. Food-safety guidance comes from Oregon State University Extension and UConn Extension. We did not repeat models from our main vacuum sealer guide or its sister pages, and we checked the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall list for each brand and found no vacuum sealer recalls. We did not seal food with these machines for this guide, and we do not quote prices, which change constantly.

Budget vacuum sealer questions, answered

What is the best vacuum sealer for the money?

For most homes, the FoodSaver PowerVac Compact, because it is small, has dry and moist settings and fits into the widest system of bags and accessories. If you want to cut your own bags from a roll in the machine, the Nesco VS-02 is the better value.

Are inexpensive vacuum sealers worth it?

Yes, for home freezing in small batches. An entry edge sealer prevents freezer burn on meat, tortillas and leftovers as well as a larger machine does for a few bags at a time. Where they fall short is long sessions, wide bags and liquids.

What is the best affordable vacuum sealer for a small kitchen?

The Cuisinart Compact, which the maker sizes for a kitchen drawer. The Bonsenkitchen VS1800 has the smallest footprint stated on this page if you do not mind an Amazon-first brand.

Can a budget vacuum sealer seal liquids?

Not directly. Edge sealers pull liquid toward the pump. Freeze soups, sauces and marinades flat in the bag first, then seal, or use the pulse button and stop early on moist foods.

Do I have to buy the same brand of bags?

Usually not. Most edge sealers take any textured vacuum bag that fits the seal width. FoodSaver says its machine works with all FoodSaver bags; check the width before buying another brand’s roll.

Does vacuum sealing make food last longer at room temperature?

No. University extension services are clear that vacuum packing is not a substitute for refrigeration, freezing or canning. Store sealed perishable foods cold.

Our final pick for vacuum sealing on a budget

Buy the FoodSaver PowerVac Compact for a small, dependable machine with the widest choice of bags. Choose the Nesco VS-02 if you want a roll and cutter inside the machine, the Weston 65-3001-W for the most settings, the Cuisinart Compact if it has to live in a drawer and the Mesliese if a long stated warranty matters most. For bigger machines and chamber sealers, see our full best vacuum sealer guide.
