Pull-Outs, Risers and Pan Racks: The Best Cabinet Organizers

Nine kitchen cabinet organizers compared: pull-out baskets, no-drill drawers, shelf risers, pan and lid racks, with fit and weight ratings as stated.

Plates, bowls and mugs stacked on the shelves of an open cupboard.

The lower cabinets in a Mexican kitchen carry the heavy things: a cast iron comal, a skillet or two, the olla for frijoles, the big pot for pozole or tamales, a tortilla press and a tangle of lids. Stacked on a fixed shelf, they turn every meal into a lifting session, and whatever is at the back gets forgotten.

This guide covers nine cabinet organizers that fix that in different ways: pull-out baskets that bring the back of the cabinet to you, slide-out drawers for under the sink, a shelf riser, racks that stand pans and lids on edge, and a basket that hangs on the door. We used the makers’ specifications as stated on each Amazon listing, and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension’s guidance on where food should and should not be stored. Where a listing gives no weight limit or fitting method, we say so.

Quick verdict: which cabinet organizers to buy

For most kitchens, start with the LYNK Professional 14 x 21-inch Pull-Out Cabinet Organizer. It slides on ball-bearing glides mounted underneath, so it gives up little width, and it carries a lifetime limited warranty. For a full two-level pull-out, choose the Rev-A-Shelf Two-Tier Pullout, rated at 100 pounds per basket. If you rent and cannot drill, the Vtopmart 2-Tier Pull-Out Organizers need no tools. For cast iron, the Simple Houseware 5-Compartment Pan Organizer, and for lids, the YouCopia StoreMore Expandable Pan + Lid Rack.

If your pots would be better on the wall than in a cabinet, our guide to the best pot rack covers wall and ceiling racks.

Our picks for the best cabinet organizers

These nine organizers cover the main cabinet problems: pots buried at the back of a base cabinet, the awkward space under the sink, wasted height above short stacks, pans and lids that slide over each other, and an empty cabinet door. Each pick explains who it suits and gives one honest reason to skip it.

1. LYNK Professional 14 x 21-inch Pull-Out Cabinet Organizer – Glides Underneath, Not on the Sides

Best overallLYNK PROFESSIONAL® Pull Out Cabinet Organizer

A pull-out drawer is the single biggest change you can make to a base cabinet. Instead of kneeling to reach the pozole pot behind the skillets, you pull the whole shelf out. LYNK’s chrome wire pull-out is 14 inches wide and 21 inches deep, and LYNK sells it in other widths and depths if your cabinet is different.

The glides are the point of difference. LYNK says its ProGlide system uses commercial ball-bearing glides mounted underneath the basket, with reinforced cross bars, and that putting the glides below rather than on the sides keeps more of the cabinet’s width usable. LYNK describes the system as built for heavy loads without sagging or bending, but the listing does not give a weight rating in pounds.

LYNK says its Easy Mount design uses an alignment guide, needs no measuring and installs in minutes; the listing does not describe the fixing hardware. The finish is polished chrome over metal wire, and the organizer has a lifetime limited warranty from LYNK.

Why we like it

  • Ball-bearing glides mounted underneath, per LYNK
  • Reinforced cross bars to prevent sagging
  • Lifetime limited warranty
  • Sold in several widths and depths

2. Rev-A-Shelf Two-Tier Pullout, 14.5-inch Opening – 100 Pounds per Basket

Best two-tierRev-A-Shelf Pullout Organizer for Cabinets

Rev-A-Shelf makes cabinet hardware, and this two-tier pullout is closer to a built-in than a basket. It has two chrome steel wire baskets on full-extension, zinc-plated ball-bearing slides, and Rev-A-Shelf rates each basket at 100 pounds. That is the clearest weight rating of any organizer here, and enough for a Dutch oven, a cast iron tortilla press and a stack of comales.

The unit measures 14.75 inches wide, 22 inches deep and 19 inches high, with a frame height that adjusts from 16.25 to 19 inches; the top basket sets at three heights for tall bottles or a small appliance. Rev-A-Shelf is specific about fit: a face-frame cabinet opening must be at least 14.5 inches wide, 22.25 inches deep and 19.5 inches high (14.75 inches wide for frameless cabinets). Check hinge clearance too.

It mounts to the cabinet floor, rear and face frame with the hardware included. Door-mount brackets that let it open with the cabinet door are sold separately. The warranty is limited lifetime.

Why we like it

  • 100 pounds per basket, per Rev-A-Shelf
  • Full-extension ball-bearing slides
  • Top basket adjusts to three heights
  • Exact minimum opening sizes given

3. Simple Houseware Under Cabinet Pull-Out Sliding Shelf – A Simple Pull-Out Rated at 30 Pounds

Budget pull-outSimple Houseware Under Cabinet Pull Out Sliding Shelf

If the LYNK and Rev-A-Shelf are more than you need, Simple Houseware’s sliding shelf is a plainer pull-out. It measures 21 inches deep, 11 inches wide and 4 inches high, runs on what the maker calls a heavy-duty ball sliding system, and is rated to hold up to 30 pounds.

Simple Houseware says it installs with a few screws and no measuring. At 11 inches wide it suits a narrow base cabinet or one half of a wider one, where two of them side by side can hold canned chipotles, tomatillos and beans on one and cleaning supplies on the other.

Thirty pounds is enough for pantry cans, bottles and a few pans, but not for a full set of cast iron, so plan the heavy pieces for a stronger pull-out or a pan rack.

Why we like it

  • Ball-bearing slides, per Simple Houseware
  • Rated to 30 pounds
  • Installs with a few screws
  • Narrow 11-inch width

Key specifications

Best for Cans, bottles and light pans

Why we recommend it

Choose it if you want a basic pull-out for a narrow cabinet and your load is cans and bottles rather than cast iron.

Skip it if you plan to load it with heavy cookware; 30 pounds goes quickly.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Clear weight rating
  • Easy screw installation
  • Fits narrow cabinets

Cons

  • 30-pound limit
  • Low 4-inch sides
  • No warranty stated

4. Vtopmart 2-Tier Pull-Out Organizers, 2-Pack – Slide-Out Drawers With No Tools

Best no-drillVtopmart 2 Pack Pull Out Bathroom Under Sink Organizer (S-Standard)

Under the sink is the hardest cabinet to organize: pipes run through the middle and nothing can be screwed down where water might reach it. Vtopmart’s organizers are freestanding two-tier units with clear pull-out drawers, and each measures 11.8 inches long, 7.5 inches wide and 10 inches high, according to the listing, narrow enough to sit beside the drain pipes.

They are made of PET plastic joined by four stainless steel tubes, which Vtopmart says will not rust under a sink. The drawers run on tracks to keep them from swaying, eight silicone pads hold the unit steady, and the top drawer supports up to 15 pounds. Setup takes no tools; Vtopmart warns to take care not to scratch your hands when pushing the steel tubes into the frame.

Under the sink is for cleaning supplies, sponges and trash bags, not food. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension says pantry food belongs in the coolest cabinets, away from the dishwasher and hot pipes, and that “the area under the sink is not a good place to store potatoes or onions.”

Why we like it

  • No tools or drilling, per Vtopmart
  • Stainless steel tubes that will not rust
  • Top drawer holds up to 15 pounds
  • Two units in the pack

Key specifications

Skip it if you need to store heavy items; the stated limit is 15 pounds for the top drawer.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Removable, no damage to cabinets
  • Clear drawers
  • Narrow footprint

Cons

  • Light loads only
  • Assembly can scratch hands, per Vtopmart

5. Simple Houseware Expandable Cabinet Shelf Organizer, Set of 2 – A Second Shelf for Short Stacks

Best shelf riserSimple Houseware Cabinet Counter Shelf Organizer w/Steel Surface

Most cabinet shelves are spaced for tall things, so a stack of plates or a row of cans leaves half the height empty. A shelf riser adds a second level. Simple Houseware’s set has a large shelf (9 inches deep, 12.75 inches wide, 5.9 inches high) and a small one (7.9 by 11.25 by 5.4 inches) that can be used separately, stacked, placed side by side or overlapped to extend the width.

The tops are perforated steel on a metal frame, and Simple Houseware rates each shelf at up to 30 pounds. That is enough for dinner plates on top and bowls underneath, or cans of tomatillos and chipotles above a row of jarred salsas. On the counter, the same riser can hold the spices and dried chiles you reach for every day.

It assembles easily, according to the maker, and needs no fixing.

Why we like it

  • Up to 30 pounds per shelf, per the maker
  • Two sizes that stack or extend
  • Steel top, not wire, so small items stay put
  • No installation

Key specifications

Organizer Cabinet counter shelf organizer, 2 sizes (model CO-004-2)
Type Shelf riser, expandable and stackable
Dimensions/fit 9 x 12.75 x 5.9 in and 7.9 x 11.25 x 5.4 in
Install No drilling; freestanding

Material Perforated steel shelf, metal frame (bronze finish)
Warranty Not stated
Best for Plates, cans and jars in upper cabinets

Why we recommend it

Choose it if your cabinets have tall gaps above short stacks of dishes or cans.

Skip it if your cabinets are shallower than 9 inches; the large shelf will not fit.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Doubles usable shelf height
  • Solid perforated top
  • Flexible layout

Cons

  • Under 6 inches of clearance below
  • Only two pieces

6. Simple Houseware 5-Compartment Pan Organizer – Cast Iron Stored on Edge

Best for cast ironSIMPLE HOUSEWARE 5 Compartments Height Adjustable Pan Organizer

Stacking a cast iron comal on a skillet on another skillet scratches seasoning and makes the bottom pan the one nobody uses. Simple Houseware’s steel pan organizer holds up to five pans standing vertically or four lying horizontally, and the maker says it is designed to hold heavy cast iron skillets securely.

It measures 11 inches deep, 9.5 inches wide and 15 inches high, and the dividers move in 1.3-inch increments to fit pans of different thicknesses. Assembly needs no tools. Standing on edge, a round comal for tortillas, a 10-inch and a 12-inch skillet and a griddle each slide out on their own.

The listing does not give a weight rating, so keep the heaviest pieces low and check that your cabinet shelf can take the combined weight. Our guides to the best comal for tortillas and the best cast iron skillet cover what to store in it.

Why we like it

  • Five pans vertical or four horizontal
  • Designed for cast iron, per the maker
  • Dividers adjust in 1.3-inch steps
  • Tool-free assembly

Key specifications

Organizer 5-compartment height-adjustable pan organizer (model CO-05B-B)

Install No tools; freestanding
Weight capacity (as stated) Not stated; built to hold cast iron skillets
Material Steel, black finish
Warranty Not stated
Best for Comales, skillets and griddles

Why we recommend it

Choose it if you own several cast iron pieces and are tired of unstacking them to reach the one you want.

Skip it if your cabinet is under 15 inches tall inside; the rack will not stand upright.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Protects seasoning from stacking
  • Two orientations
  • Adjustable spacing

Cons

  • No weight rating
  • Holds only five pans

7. YouCopia StoreMore Expandable Pan + Lid Rack – Ten Dividers for Pans and Lids

Best for lidsYouCopia StoreMore Expandable Pan + Lid Rack

Lids are the hardest thing in a cabinet to keep in order: round, slippery and always one size off. YouCopia’s StoreMore rack has an expandable base that extends to 22 inches and holds ten adjustable dividers, so pans, lids, cutting boards and sheet pans stand on edge in a lower cabinet, deep drawer or pantry.

YouCopia says the dividers are coated steel that will not pop out or scratch cookware, the base is shaped to stop round pans and lids from rolling, and soft non-slip feet hold it in place. Setup is simple: expand the base, push in the dividers and load. For the lids from an olla, a Dutch oven and a stockpot, it is easier than a stack.

The listing does not give a weight rating or the base’s closed length. This is a different product from the YouCopia pot lid organizer in our pot rack guide and from the bakeware rack in our baking pan organizer guide.

Why we like it

  • Expands to 22 inches with ten dividers
  • Coated steel dividers, per YouCopia
  • Base stops round lids from rolling
  • Non-slip feet

Key specifications

Organizer StoreMore expandable pan + lid rack (model 50944)
Type Expandable divider rack
Dimensions/fit Expands to 22 in; closed size not stated
Install No tools; freestanding
Weight capacity (as stated) Not stated
Material Plastic base (not specified), coated steel dividers
Warranty Not stated
Best for Lids, pans and cutting boards on edge

Why we recommend it

Choose it if lids and flat pans are the mess in your lower cabinet and you want them upright and separated.

Skip it if your cabinet is shorter than your tallest lid; the listing does not give the divider height.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Many dividers
  • Expandable base
  • Also works in a deep drawer

Cons

  • No weight rating
  • Divider height not listed

8. OXO Good Grips Adjustable Cookware Organizer – Pots Upright in a Drawer or Cabinet

Best compact rackOXO Good Grips Adjustable Cookware Organizer

OXO’s cookware organizer is a smaller steel-frame rack, 14.17 by 7.48 by 7 inches according to the listing, with five dividers that can be moved or removed. OXO says it fits into a kitchen drawer as well as a cabinet, and that cookware stands upright to use vertical space that usually goes to waste.

Two of these can be connected to extend the rack, which is useful if your collection grows or if you want one section for skillets and another for lids. The dividers, OXO says, protect cookware from rubbing. Assembly and disassembly are quick.

The listing gives no weight rating, and at 7 inches high it suits pans and lids better than tall pots. It is also narrower than the YouCopia rack, at 7.48 inches, so it can share a cabinet shelf with something else.

Why we like it

  • Five movable, removable dividers
  • Connects to a second unit
  • Fits a deep drawer or a cabinet
  • Steel frame, per the listing

Key specifications

Organizer Adjustable cookware organizer (model 11415900)

Skip it if you want one rack for a large collection; a single unit holds only five pieces.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Compact footprint
  • Expandable by connecting two
  • Removable dividers

9. Spectrum Large Over Cabinet Door Organizer, White – Storage on the Back of the Door

Best door storageSpectrum Large Over Cabinet Door Organizer White Wire Storage Basket for Kitchen Bathroom

The inside of a cabinet door is space nobody uses. Spectrum’s large wire basket hooks over the top of the door, with padded brackets that fit doors up to 0.75 inch thick and protect the finish, according to the listing. There is nothing to install.

The basket is steel wire in an open grid, so you can see what is inside. Under the sink it holds sponges, scrub brushes and dish soap; on a pantry cabinet it can hold foil and plastic wrap or bags of tortilla chips. Spectrum says the steel construction “supports significant weight,” but the listing gives no figure in pounds.

Before you buy, close the door with your hand where the basket will sit. Shelves or pull-outs inside the cabinet can hit it, and the listing does not give the basket’s dimensions.

Why we like it

  • No tools; hangs over the door
  • Padded brackets protect the door
  • Fits doors up to 0.75 inch thick
  • Open wire grid shows the contents

Key specifications

How to choose cabinet organizers for a Mexican kitchen

Measure the opening, not the box

For a pull-out, what matters is the narrowest point of the cabinet opening, including the face frame and the hinges, plus the inside depth and height. Rev-A-Shelf, for example, needs at least 14.5 by 22.25 by 19.5 inches. Measure twice; a pull-out that is half an inch too wide will not go in.

Screws or no screws

Mounted pull-outs such as the LYNK, Rev-A-Shelf and Simple Houseware sliding shelf glide better and carry more, but they mean screws in the cabinet. If you rent, stay with freestanding pieces: the Vtopmart drawers, shelf risers, pan racks and door baskets.

Weight ratings, and what to do without one

Only some listings give a number: 100 pounds per basket for the Rev-A-Shelf, 30 pounds for the Simple Houseware pull-out and each shelf riser, 15 pounds for the Vtopmart top drawer. Cast iron, a clay olla and a molcajete add up fast. Put the heaviest pieces on the cabinet floor or on the organizer with the clearest rating.

A frying pan on an induction cooktop beside white lower cabinets and a white tiled wall with a plant
A pan on the cooktop, a step away from the cabinets below.

Upright beats stacked

Comales, skillets, griddles, lids and cutting boards all store better on edge in a divider rack than in a pile. Each piece comes out without lifting the others, and seasoning on cast iron does not get scraped.

Keep food in the right cabinet

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension’s guide to safe home food storage says pantry conditions “should be dry, cool and dark,” ideally 50 to 70°F, and advises storing food in the coolest cabinets, away from the range, oven, water heater, dishwasher or hot pipes. Put dried chiles, masa harina, rice and beans in the cabinets farthest from the stove, and use the cabinets around the oven and sink for cookware and cleaning supplies. Our guide to Mexican pantry staples covers what those pantry cabinets usually hold.

How we chose these nine cabinet organizers

We looked for one strong option for each cabinet problem: mounted pull-outs at three levels of capacity, a no-drill pull-out, a shelf riser, divider racks for cast iron and lids, and a door basket. We favored makers who state fit and weight clearly, such as Rev-A-Shelf, and we wrote “Not stated” where a listing was silent. To avoid repeating ourselves, we left out the racks already reviewed in our pot rack and baking pan organizer guides. Specifications come from each Amazon listing, and every pick was in stock on Amazon when we checked.

We have not used these organizers ourselves. We did not find an independent review of cabinet pull-outs or pan racks from America’s Test Kitchen, Serious Eats or Wirecutter that we could read, so we do not quote any. Food-storage guidance comes from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension.

Cabinet organizer questions, answered

What are the best cabinet organizers for a kitchen?

For base cabinets, a pull-out basket such as the LYNK Professional or Rev-A-Shelf two-tier pullout makes the biggest difference, because the back of the cabinet comes to you. Add a divider rack for pans and lids and a shelf riser for upper cabinets.

Do pull-out cabinet organizers need screws?

Most mounted pull-outs do. Rev-A-Shelf mounts to the cabinet floor, rear and face frame, and Simple Houseware’s sliding shelf uses a few screws. Freestanding units such as Vtopmart’s two-tier drawers need no tools.

How much weight can a pull-out shelf hold?

It depends on the maker. Rev-A-Shelf rates its two-tier pullout at 100 pounds per basket and Simple Houseware rates its sliding shelf at 30 pounds. LYNK does not give a figure in its listing. Follow the stated rating and keep heavy cast iron on the strongest one.

How should I store pot lids in a cabinet?

On edge, in a rack with dividers. YouCopia’s StoreMore Pan + Lid Rack has ten dividers and a base shaped to stop round lids rolling. A door-mounted rack is another option, covered in our pot rack guide.

What is the top cabinet organizer for under the sink?

A freestanding unit that fits around the pipes, such as Vtopmart’s two-tier pull-out drawers, or a basket on the inside of the door. Keep food elsewhere: Texas A&M AgriLife Extension says the area under the sink is not a good place to store potatoes or onions.

Our final pick for kitchen cabinets

Start with the LYNK Professional pull-out in your busiest base cabinet, or the Rev-A-Shelf two-tier pullout if you want the most capacity. Add the Simple Houseware pan organizer for cast iron, the YouCopia rack for lids, a shelf riser for upper cabinets and Vtopmart drawers under the sink.
